Giada De Laurentiis’s Favorite Restaurants In Los Angeles

"Like most of you, Giada’s Sugarfish move is to order it to-go (shouting out their DIY takeout container as “so well-curated”). Unlike most of you, she’s also intent on finding a way to translate the Sugarfish approach into Italian takeout. Do we really need to tell you what to order? It’s always the Trust Me. " - brennan carley

The Best Sugarfish Locations In LA, Ranked

"There is nothing unique or special about this particular Sugarfish and that’s exactly why I like it. Expect lots of college kids (go Bruins), wealthy Westsiders, and wealthy Westsiders with their college-age kids. Something to keep in mind: Per Sugarfish regulations, you’re forbidden from switching out or changing the nigiri, but a common move is to replace the handrolls (tuna in the middle of the meal, blue crab at the end), for something more luxurious, like bay scallops or lobster. I prefer to make them both blue crab, but that’s just because I’m kind of trash." - kat hong

Google
The warm rice makes this sushi stand out. I love how the menu is designed so you get all of the best items. The hand rolls are absolutely fabulous. The vibe inside the restaurant is pretty chill.

Google
Trendy local sushi outlet that caters to an omakase style / uniquely branded TrustMe sets. We had these recommended sets last June 2024 and were surprised by many of the innovative twists to the diahes from their slightly warm sushi rice and the special type of rice used. The service was up to standard and prompt The place is much like other sushi bars which is often tight and limited in seating Expect queues during peak times and dining is at a first come first served basis. Best for quick eats and small groups.

Google
Five stars. Back when I lived in Brentwood in 2023, Sugarfish was my go-to. I usually ordered takeout, but the few times I dined in, the service was just as impressive as the food. Always fresh, always consistent—truly top-tier sushi.

Google
My go to place when I’m in Southern California. I always look forward to coming here. The softshell crab is out of this world. Everything is always so fresh and tasty. Service is always excellent. The wait is minimal. Not an issue parking plenty of space outback.

Google
This is an easy 5/5 establishment. Outstanding sushi for a very reasonable price. There is no better value in Los Angeles. Anyone who rates this less than 5 star is not to be trusted! Prompt service, and tip is included which is nice. Very cozy atmosphere.

Google
Got here around 515 on a weekend to beat the dinner rush or it can get quite crowded. Validated parking lot right in front very convenient. Indoor and covered patio seating. The service was friendly and excellent, and they bussed dishes quickly inbetween courses. I would definitely recommend one of the tasting course options, very reasonable price for top quality sushi. Nice list of wine and sake for pairing. They will only seat you if your whole party is present. Would definitely come back here again.

Yelp
Still my favorite spot for sushi--no one does it like Sugarfish! However, I did notice a slight drop in service quality on my recent visit. The plating and attention to detail weren't quite up to their usual standard. That said, I still love this location and the consistent quality of their sushi. I also feel like they've added a table somehow because it feels more tight than ever!

Yelp
overview: i came here at around 12:30 pm on a Sunday and got seated right away. the ambiance of this place is calming & the service is amazing. food: trust me box: 10/10. i highly recommend getting this combo as your first time eating here! the quality of the fish is unmatched. the salmon was my absolute favorite. it was soft, a bit creamy, and fresh taste that i never experienced before. one thing i will say is that the rice is not as firm as I'd like it to be. i love love sushi rice and how its a mixture between soft and sticky, but the rice was a bit too soft that it was difficult to pick up with the fish. overall, super amazing dishes & great experience. I'd 100% visit again and would recommend this place to those who love high-quality fish!

Yelp
It was incredibly delicious! Unfortunately there is no table reservation and we waited for about 50 minutes (evening Sunday), we were celebrating a birthday, so it was a bit awkward. Excellent service.

Yelp
Came here on a Sunday around 4:45 pm and were able to get seated within a minute or two. I got the Trust Me, which was well worth the $35! My favorites were the tuna sashimi with ponzu and chives, toro hand roll, New Zealand sea bream sushi with citrus salt, hotate sushi with yuzu ponzu, and blue and dungeness crab hand roll. The edamame was surprisingly flavorful as well! For the price and ambiance, this is a great place to stop by. I felt like the sushi was hit or miss in terms of flavor, so I might just stick to the ones I really enjoyed in the future, though a la carte is not nearly as good of a deal. Parking was fairly easy right outside the establishment in the small lot, and service was quick.

Yelp
I love SUGARFISH! I've been to some locations and have nothing but great things to say about all locations! It's one of the best Japanese food I've tried!

Yelp
I loved everything about Sugarfish. This is a walk-in sushi restaurant with relatively affordable prices, and a menu reminiscent of an omakase experience. I came in for lunch (served between opening until 3:30pm) and ordered the "Trust Me" set menu, costing $30. This menu is five courses composed of edamame, tuna sashimi, six pieces of sushi, and two hand rolls, all of which were delicious. There are other menu sets available with more courses, but I would say that the amount offered in "Trust Me" is very filling. The quality of the fish was great, and I could tell the preparation was very thoughtful. My only note was that the sushi rice fell apart easily, which posed some issues when picking up the nigiri with chopsticks. The service was very quick, and it took about 45 minutes for me to finish the menu. The restaurant's vibe was very relaxed and classy, and I noticed a lot of other solo diners (perfect for a solo date!). Amazing sushi, would love to come back!

Yelp
Came on a Saturday for lunch and there was free parking in the plaza lot. Got seated quickly and got the Trust Me ($30 lunch) and the Nozawa ($39 lunch) Come for lunch to get $5 off dinner prices. Fish is delish and high quality. Crab hand roll was so good. Blue fin tuna also so buttery and good.

Cheri N.

Yelp
This is my favorite sugarfish location as far as ambiance. The food is so amazing too! I live it here I will be back again.

Yelp
Super positive experience here for my birthday lunch!! The host Noah was super great, and the manager Sang was extremely kind and accommodating. The fish was incredible as usual, really soft and tender. Will be coming back to one of my favorite sushi places in SoCal!
google avatar

Serinee T.

Yelp
I always get the Trust Me and it never disappoints! The sushi at Sugarfish is so fresh and meets all of my expectations. It's quite affordable for a set menu meal. Also got to try a variety of toru sushi which was also super delicious. Highly recommend to show up earlier during dinner time because it's first come, first served! To make the experience better, I hope they can implement a reservation system in the future.

Yelp
Brentwood SF is my favorite location. They just get the job done right. The only downside is that others also think this about this location hence the long wait. I came for a solo dinner post workout, on a Saturday night at 5:30 and there was about a 20-30 min wait. I usually get the Trust Me ($35) or the Nozawa one. But it's kind of a lot of food. I'm going to try out the Trust Me Lite and see if I feel full with that. Parking: don't park on San Vicente since the meters are only 1 hour. It's 90mins free in the parking lot in the plaza but it does get packed. So i guess my advice would be: bring a blanket, some light snacks and watch some YouTube videos in your car with your date, it's gonna be a while.
google avatar

Hannah O.

Yelp
came here on a Thursday afternoon for lunch and was surprised that they had availability at 12! I was expecting a long line but was glad they were able to seated us quickly. they have parking available with validation for the first 90 minutes free. I really like the variety you get with each meal. I got the Trust Me set and was pleased with how much fish I got to try, and nothing felt like it was a repeat. pricing is fair for the quality (if you think about it, you pay about $30 for 2 regular cut rolls anyway, but here you get quality and variety). portions were surprisingly good too, even tho it's only 1-2 pieces per item. service was very quick and good with refilling our water and clearing out plates. def worth coming by if you're in the area! if you visit at least twice you get a freebie on your birthday lol
google avatar

Alik W.

Yelp
It's quite solid. They steer you to the omakase style "trust me" options, but in fairness, those are decent. The gimmick is warm rice, which has a decent amount of vinegar in it. The nigiri cuts are generous for the price, and even their highest omakase is pretty fair at $59 in a no tipping establishment. The sake is similarly fair, with a limited menu but a perfectly serviceable nigori. What isn't great is: Pretty boring fish; even the highest omakase just gets you a bit more Toro. Nigiri technique. The balls were falling apart, not tight and easy to pick up. Still, for a guy from the Midwest wanting real sushi, it worked, and having salt and straw next door for dessert is a bonus!

Yelp
The great thing about Sugarfish is that you know exactly what to expect and the quality is good. Came here for an early dinner prior to a show at the Geffen Theater with my family and made a reservation online in advance. For 5pm on a Sunday, the restaurant was still pretty busy although we did get seated immediately. Validated parking is available but there's also some metered spots in front if you prefer. Indoor and outdoor tables available. Get the "Trust Me" - it's a solid option and you'll be pleasantly satisfied (not stuffed).

Kelly S.

Yelp
Ordered the Trust Me Set, it was so good!! Would def go again. Service was good and fancy ambiance.

Yelp
Ended up at this location because we couldn't find parking at the Manhattan Beach location. Ordered the 15 for 15, their 15th Anniversary special and it was divine. Almost too much food. Our main server was great but the ones that brought out the dishes varied. They told us what each item was but often did not explain the proper way to eat each dish. Side note: DTLA had outstanding servers. The dishes that stood out the most were the otoro, salmon sunomono, and the lobster sashimi.
google avatar

Lynn V.

Yelp
Always a good meal here but somehow this visit had me and a friend having a bit of weird stomach issues. We went on a Sunday for lunch and the wait was minimal. Seems like they're having a special 15 year anniversary set and it was about $80. We didn't do it since the waitress said it takes some time so just opted for the trust me, which is enough to fill me up. While sister restaurants, the rice here is much less sticky and combined as kazunori and I feel it breaks apart too much so that's why docking a star. Otherwise always a solid place to eat.
google avatar

Nyky L.

Yelp
Great place to pick up Sushi on the fly. The packaging is always expertly crafted and the sushi is always fresh. A little pricey but you do get what you pay for. Service can sometimes be snooty but for the most part very efficient. It's a tight spot space wise so best to grab and go otherwise wait is long during peak times.

Anne R.

Yelp
Great food/ qualify of fish. Service could be improved-- we had to ask for plates to be cleared. Parking was convenient.

Yelp
walked in and it was pretty busy we sat at the bar which we love! Angela was taking care of us and she was AMAZING!!! she helped us decide on the trust me and it was delicious! she also recommended the albacore belly which was a special and we got and it and WOW that melted in my mouth and the sauce was perfect!! the restaurant was very busy all the tables were full and angela was hustling and killing it and keeping everyone happy!! i eat aooo much ginger and Angela made sure i was well taken care of!! thank you for being so great Angela!!!

Yelp
I am Giving a 2 stars to the San Vincent location, not The others. Sushi rice was cold and tuna was supper cold as if it had been kept in the refrigerator all night. I do eat at Sugar Fish on La Brea and Cannon drive often , so this is very dissatisfying. Maybe they were just having an off day as it is Super Bowl day and they didn't want to work... but my sushi experience was terrible.
google avatar

Shanell M.

Yelp
An absolute fav! Probably the best sushi I've ever had. Every single piece was so fresh and melts on your tongue. I went during dinner time so there was a wait. Although they said it would be an hour, it prob only took 30 mins. My friend and I enjoyed their prefix menu which helps give you the chance to try a bit of everything. The sushi was so good, I didn't even take pics. It's quite dark in there which can easily be an intimate date night setting. I saw all types of groups dining and also enjoying the experience. Secret - I dined at another Sugarfish location the day after because loved it so much.
google avatar

Stephanie L.

Yelp
First time ordering Sugarfish to go. Presentation was great and quality was consistent with dine in. I ordered the Trust Me which comes with 8 pieces of sushi, 8 pieces of rolls, a side of tuna, a side of edamame, and sauces. My faves are sea bream sushi and crab rolls. The only thing that was missing was hot sake.
google avatar

Corine M.

Yelp
Freshest fish ever!!!! 100% worth the flight from Las Vegas. We did the lunch Chef Special and was not disappointed. The fish MELTS in your mouth. Highly recommend. Next time we are in town we will definitely be back!
google avatar

Yelp
I was super excited to try Sugarfish after hearing so many great things about it! They have set menus (kinda like omakase) and also a la carte. If you get the set menu, the server will come by with the next item after you finish the previous dish. I decided to try their Trust Me Menu which came with a couple handrolls and pieces of sushi. Everything was super delicious, and the fish tasted really fresh. My favorites were the salmon and albacore sushi as well as the toro hand roll. I love the vibes of the restaurant and how modern and simplistic it feels on the inside. The sushi is on the pricier end but definitely worth the experience!
google avatar

Lucia L.

Yelp
Sugarfish definitely lives up to its namesake and hype, and I'm so glad that the quality is still as amazing as ever, even four years after I last tried it! The quality of their fish is incredible, and you can really taste the difference in freshness (with the slightly sweet flavor of all their seafood) and quality of their cuts. I always opt for the Trust Me Lite set, which is honestly such a good portion, but they offer a variety of sashimi, nigiri, hand rolls, and cut sushi rolls that you can order from the menu. Among the items that I've tried and would highly recommend: Otoro Chutoro Salmon Albacore Sweet shrimp Hokkaido scallops
google avatar

Sarah S.

Yelp
Chef Nozawa has a bunch of places throughout LA (and NYC) but Sugarfish is consistently one of the best and freshest sashimi options there is. I especially love that you can pick up their sushi boxes to go and they're a vision! Beautiful boxes divided neatly into sections with descriptions of everything, as well as how to best enjoy the pieces. Genius! Cuts on the sushi and rolls are consistently well done, which is very much appreciated. Though I die for sashimi and nigiri, my favorite is actually their salmon roll. I'm so basic but it's clean and delicious. Such a simple addition as the sesame brought this maki up a notch. Perfection in a simple maki. Love Sugarfish and will definitely be returning for more fishies!
google avatar

Debbie F.

Yelp
Lunch was enjoyable with the trust me option. Fish is fresh and nice quality. I found it sorta bland. No avocado or other wonderful things.
google avatar

Bella A.

Yelp
Great place that serves high quality traditional sushi, both for dine in, takeout, and delivery options. The menu style is similar to an omakase in which the whole course is prepared in a flow that lets you enjoy the flavor of each piece, but you can also order some ala carte items as well. You can expect a bit of a wait and some struggles with parking during lunch and dinner hours, but it's nestled in a nice little plaza in Brentwood. It's a small space but not too loud so still very good for an intimate meal.
google avatar

Angel H.

Yelp
My first time trying Sugarfish and I was impressed! We went during a weekday night and the wait isn't bad at all. Service is very on point, they check on you constantly and make sure you are being helped. They have a simple menu and we went with the "don't think. Just eat". And we were so full at the end of the meal! There are only 1-2 pieces that I didn't really like but overall it was great! All pieces are very fresh with enough flavors, sashimi melts in your mouth and the rice is cooked perfectly. I felt all pieces are in good quality. I would definitely come back!
google avatar

Yelp
Location is wonderful great parking excellent parking attendant who look like rapper Common it's definitely fresh not much of a LA traditional sushi with a lot of cooked options limited menu they have a selection of chef specials well priced we ordered a mixed variety pretty good not impressive like originally on La brea n LA as much as it cost you are literally sitting on top of the other guest side by side of course most men need larger seats and we all know several foodies are overweight 20 to 50 pounds. The seating were as if we're tiny people in Japan that's just totally ridiculous customers sitting on top of each other I was literally so close to the next table l heard their entire sexual conversation two men flirting with one another looking in his boyfriends eyes just very uncomfortable definitely not worth the experience whatsoever. Also It was weird sitting so close to each other when you get up your ass is in on top of the table impossible to pass ridiculous sorry there's no lil people anymore ure literally touching their plates so it's a no for me unless you love a sardine experience not suggested for a date it's popular for families with newborns and babies with strollers three babies crying the entire time super distracting it's just ok nothing super special l did love the ginger
google avatar

Melody A.

Yelp
Yum. Another date night eat for us, and honestly great for a lunch or dinner when you're in the area and in the mood for sushi! This place doesn't take reservations, as you may have read from other reviews, and wait times on the weekend and Friday night are easily 2 hours. If you're local, you know to swing by, put your name on the list, and go home or do some errands in the meantime. We went with the "Don't Think, Just Eat" and I'm going to be honest~ My belly almost exploded by the end of the meal. Between my partner and myself, I am usually the insatiable all you can eat stomach but I was FULL. So, order this option if you are ready and in the mood. The sushi was all fresh, the rice warm and well made, falling apart with pressure but staying formed like good sushi rice does. Favorite of mine? The salmon konbu! My partner loved the lobster.

Yelp
I don't know what the fuss is all about. It's crowded, extraordinary loud, the menu is set and the service is like a cafeteria and yet they add the tip. The sushi was good but not out of this world. Lunch for two was over 100$. This place is proof that LA rich will flock to any place they are told is good without any merit.
google avatar

Katie K.

Yelp
Yassss! This is such a good spot. The sushi is omakase style. It is always good and always fresh. They only do traditional style sushi with nigiri and hand rolls. So if you want cut rolls, this place is not for you. Everything they do is classic and very well done. The rice is perfectly cooked. Go with the "Trust Me" and you won't be sorry. The service is good. They are efficient and not overly friendly but not rude. This location is a bit easier to get into that others. But, go early to avoid a line.
google avatar

Vincent S.

Yelp
I have heard so many remarkable things about this restaurant, but to be honest, it was very mediocre. Luckily it is not a price point that is so high that I feel like it's unreasonable but I feel like it's not the luxury experience I was expecting. They are known for their sushi with warm rice. I found the rice to be poorly packed and would easily fall apart as you were eating it. It had a strong vinegar taste, that made it hard at times to taste the fish. The fish itself was very fresh and high quality. The atmosphere is a little bit generic. I found the service to be very lackluster, and sort of a rushed environment. It is definitely a casual spot to get a medium level dining experience. If you want something special for a nice date, this is definitely not the place you should go. But if you're looking for a week to eat dinner with a little bit of a wait time, and this is in your neighbourhood then go right ahead
google avatar

Gennie L.

Yelp
The sushi at sugar fish is not bad. It's a little overrated due to it being a little overpriced. We ordered the salmon roll, cucumber roll, salmon sashimi and edamame. The portion sizes are extremely small, and not worth it's price. They have lunch trust me's which are essentially a combo meal which include sashimi and sushi (depending on the meal). Nothing is super unique about their service or experience, so it seems unreasonable for them to charge so much for some mediocre sushi. Overall rating: 6/10

Yelp
Time & Date: Thursday, Nov 4th 2021 @ 8:45pm Wait time: around 45 minutes Ordered: Trust Me ($35) per person The last time I had Sugarfish was during the no dining covid era. At the time, they were only doing takeout orders in a cute little picnic box, and I was blown away at how good the quality of fish was. I knew I had to try it dining in, because they serve each dish out to you omakase style. The rice is warm & perfectly sweet, the seaweed in the hand rolls were so crisp and light, and the fish were all so buttery smooth, chilled, & extremely fresh. Even the toasted sesame seeds on top of the salmon tasted so good! I'm a huge fan of the Tuna Sashimi in ponzu & chives, as well as the hand rolls. They threw in a complimentary unagi sushi on the house as a birthday touch too! For the quality of fish you're getting, $35 is actually very reasonable and cheap in comparison to the classic $100 omakase. if you haven't been to Sugarfish yet, you're missing out!
google avatar

Eriko P.

Yelp
If you can't decide what kind of sushi you want, come to Sugarfish because their menu is straightforward. You can select from their Prix Fix menu: Trust Me, The Nozawa Trust Me, Trust Me Lite or Don't Think, just Eat, Trust Me. It was lunch time. The parking lot was packed and the restaurant LOUD and crowded at 1pm. It was difficult to have a conversation across the table. This is why I'm giving only 4 stars. Sushi and food: 5 star and beyond! Melt in your mouth sushi. If you do park in the lot, first 90 minutes are free with validation. There is a back parking too. We left around 2pm and there were plenty of tables and it was not as noisy loud. So if you arrive off hours, I would recommend it. Lunch is served until 3:30pm, then it's Dinner service.
google avatar

Yelp
Absolutely delicious. I love kazu nori in Westwood by the same chef so I expected nothing less. We did the Don't think just eat option which came with a lot of food and it was all amazing. Always happily surprised at how good quality the fish is. I will be back
google avatar

Rachel C.

Yelp
Honestly some of the best sushi I've ever had. My fiancé and I picked up two of the Nozawa To-Go (one for each of us) and they were SO good. Everything was incredibly fresh and delicious. I love the entire experience and Sugarfish has truly mastered the art of takeout sushi. Definitely pricey but we were celebrating. Would come back a thousand times over! The only challenge was that we could t always figure out which fish was which (according to the key at the top of the box), but we didn't really care. Everything was delicious!
google avatar

Ella B.

Yelp
If you know what you are looking for coming here, you cannot go wrong or be disappointed. Sugar fish has some preset menus like the trust me which you order, and high quality nigiri/sashimi/hand rolls come to your table in a nicely spaced manner. Ordering the to-go, you get it all together but the quality is the same. Love this place for being trustworthy. A little more pricey but you pay for the quality of the fish!
google avatar

Daniel K.

Yelp
To be honest, I wasn't a fan of Sugarfish prior to today. All of my friends who had tried Sugarfish told me that it was either great or way too overhyped and overpriced, and because of that, I had avoided visiting any of their locations. However, my girlfriend and I decided to go for her birthday and we were very impressed by all of the food. We both got the Nozawa Trust Me and we were absolutely STUFFED by the end of our meal. All of the fish tasted fresh and the rice was warm. While the meal was $45/ person, I'd say the it is definitely a bargain considering that the quality of the fish is above average and that we left way more full than we intended to. For two people, I would recommend just getting the Trust Me and the Nozawa Trust Me. The parking lot isn't that big, but you should be able to get a spot if you just wait about 5 minutes, and while you wait, someone else in your party can put their name down since the wait to get a table will probably be about an hour. All in all, I would definitely come back.
google avatar

Julie V.

Yelp
Finally tried the famous Sugarfish by Sushi Nozawa. They are known for their trust me boxes. I got the Trust Me ($35) which comes with edamame, tuna sashimi, albacore, salmon, toro hand roll, yellowtail, sea bream, hirame, and blue crab hand roll. This set was definitely filling! The to-go presentation was beautiful and the best I've seen for a sushi box. The fish was very fresh and melts in your mouth. Price was reasonable, but they do charge 15% tip for takeouts automatically on all orders.
google avatar

Dollie J.

Yelp
So lucky be live so close by to this place. What can I say but one needs to go here. No reservations. Fresh fish, awesome rice. They offer omakase (set) in four degrees or levels and ala carte sushi that includes uni. Best of all, the service is excellent. I've been here many a few times and even take out process is over and beyond. Love, love.
google avatar

Lauren H.

Yelp
Was excited to try the food here since I heard so much about it but thought it was only ok. Nothing too special about this place. Overall, food was good but didn't feel like anything stood out in particular. Service is great though! The sets are served omikase style. Didn't have much of a wait time when I came here around 7:30pm. I was seated almost right away.

Yelp
This was on my must-try list during a trip to LA, and I was glad to have gotten the experience! We came at around 6pm on a Tuesday and were able to get seated immediately. The inside is dimly lit and quite small, and the tables are all put really close together which was a little awkward but not too bad. We both ordered the "Trust Me" set menu which served each course one by one. Starting off, we got the edamame and tuna sashimi -- the edamame was perfectly cooked and salted, and the tuna was really fresh and tasted great with the ponzu sauce! Next we got the first round of nigiri which had salmon and albacore. Both fish tasted super fresh and delicious but I enjoyed the salmon more because I wasn't as big of a fan of the sauce on the rice for the albacore. Then came the toro hand roll, which was fabulous. I've never really had hand rolls before but this was absolutely delicious! The rice was warm and perfectly seasoned while the fish was cold and fresh, and it was all wrapped in a crispy seaweed roll. Definitely the highlight of the night. We then got round two of nigiri which was yellowtail, sea bream, and scallop. Again, I wasn't too big of a fan of the sauce on the sea bream and scallop, but the yellowtail was melt-in-your-mouth fresh and delicious. Our final course was the crab hand roll which was also fantastic like the toro. We also got the salmon kombu nigiri which was really fresh as well. Overall, I had a great experience and was so happy to have tried the infamous sugarfish! They automatically add a 16% tip to your bill so you don't need to worry about any calculations. Service was great and so was the food!

Yelp
This is more like 3.5 stars. They offer omakase at an amazing price, and they have different set options depending on how many pieces you would like. The reason for my 3.5 stars is because they really need to work on their rice. The whole thing falls apart. You literally cannot pick up the sushi to dip into wasabi without all the rice falling apart and into the dipping saucer. Even though fresh fish is important - the rice is almost just as important. The salmon nigiri was my favorite. The salmon literally melted in your mouth.

Yelp
Right when you walk in, it feels like a really nice restaurant. The decor and lighting is nice, but the wooden disposable chopsticks and napkins take away from that slightly. We came to eat around 3pm on a Sunday. The restaurant was about 1/3 full. The staff was nice but I wouldn't say it was the best or most professional service. The food: In a word, it was disappointing. We got "The Nozawa Trust Me". The sashimi in ponzu came out first. It seemed like wasn't freshly made; the plate felt like it had been in the fridge, the ponzu was slightly dried in one area like the sauce was poured a while ago. In all of the nigiri pieces, the rice was not shaped enough. They would fall apart when picked up with chopsticks, which was pretty frustrating after a few times. Both hamachi pieces were stringy and a little chewy. Some pieces were a bit fishy. The two hand rolls were the best things I ate there. They came out one at a time. The seaweed was fresh and crunchy, the rice was warm, the fish was cold and smooth. Pros: - good atmosphere/ decor - the crab and toro handrolls were delicious Cons: - nigiri rice kept falling apart - slightly fishy and stringy/chewy fish - sashimi didn't seem freshly made, seemed like the dish was made then put in the fridge. Overall: food was just ok, wouldn't go back but the decor and staff were nice.
