The Best Sugarfish Locations In LA, Ranked - Los Angeles - The Infatuation

"Is this the sexiest location in the city? Absolutely not. However, you gotta give SFISH MDR (as its affectionately known) mega bonus points for being the very first Sugarfish in existence. Plus, there’s a huge outdoor seating area, a parking lot that is spacious and free, and it’s extremely close to the airport. A meal here is everything you wish California could be - easy, breezy, and in the shadow of a giant Kreation Organic Juicery. In other words, heaven." - kat hong

The Healthy Lunch Guide - Los Angeles - The Infatuation

"Could we really write this guide and not include Sugarfish? Sushi might not involve a whole lot of vitamin intake, but it sure is healthier than that burrito you were considering. With locations quite literally all over town, always-consistent quality, and unbeatable prices, Sugarfish is one of our go-to lunches. If you’re in a hurry, call ahead for takeout." - jess basser sanders, brant cox

Sugarfish Marina del Rey Review - Marina Del Rey - Los Angeles - The Infatuation

"LA is no stranger to sushi empires, but few have achieved the popularity (and accessibility) of Sugarfish. Plain and simple, this is the highest-quality sushi at the best price in town. There are many locations around LA these days, but don’t fear, the quality hasn’t dropped a bit. You can still get your nine-course Trust Me dinner for about $30 (it fluctuates between lunch and dinner) and walk away thrilled. The Marina del Rey outpost feels appropriately corporate given its surroundings, but the waits are just as long and the food just as good as any of the other locations in town." - Jess Basser Sanders

Sugarfish Review - Fairfax - Los Angeles - The Infatuation

"One can view Los Angeles’s sushi scene much like the cast of Wet Hot American Summer. It’s large, talented and almost everyone’s a huge star now. But while several world-class sushi dynasties permeate through our city, none might be bigger than Sugarfish. Starting as a humble sushi joint in The Valley (don’t they all), Sugarfish has grown now to eight different locations, stretching from Marina Del Rey to Downtown. What’s usually a kiss of death to most restaurants, Sugarfish’s eye-popping expansion has continued to work because of Chef Nozawa’s unwavering integrity given to every piece of fish served. Case in point - the location in question - Sugarfish’s newest - is as good as ever (and so far, the wait for a table is shorter than average). And at $30 for 7 different cuts of premiere sushi ($25 at lunch), this is the best deal in town for what you’re getting. End of discussion. And don’t come calling for your California or Boston rolls sweetheart, they’re not here. Sugarfish’s “trust me”-style menu leaves it all entirely in the hands of the chefs and that’s beautiful. You will receive your untampered sushi in the order that they see fit and you will eat it in the way they intend you to. Aka, keep that soy sauce far away. And while Chef Nozawa’s sushi speaks for itself, it’s the overall concept and social approach that has led Sugarfish to the success it’s basking in today. Far too many of the great sushi restaurants in town exist under the umbrella of A-List exclusivity but Sugarfish remains intent on the opposite. Whether it’s by yourself on a quick lunch break, enjoying a night out with friends, or sitting on your bed watching TV eating takeout, Sugarfish is quality sushi for the people. Not getting too political, that’s a campaign we will continue to vote for. Food Rundown “Trust Me” Edamame, tuna sashimi, albacore sushi, salmon sushi, yellowtail sushi, halibut sushi, a toro handroll, and a blue crab handroll for about $30. If anyone has a problem with that previous sentence, you are living a dark life and we hope you find the light. Amen." - Brant Cox

I'm giving 1 stars for a point to be made. I am a highly trained food critic. I have loved Sugar Fish and have been a big supporter for over 10 years. There's nothing I will critique about the food or service. BUT, Sugar Fish corporate cannot afford to provide filtered water to their customers? I sat at the bar, indulging in my Sugar Fish experience, complete with Nozawa Trust Me, unfiltered sake and Nigiri add-ons. Then I went to wash my palate with a glass of water. All I tasted was Los Angeles tap water, loaded with chlorine. It too Nozawa from a 5 star high end classy establishment to a Motel 6 , ghetto burger shack. Ridiculous!

Google
Got the light sushi lunch set, just the right amount of food for a light, quick lunch. It included edamame, the sashimi dish, the three pieces of sushi, and a tuna hand roll. All dishes were served quickly and all delicious and fresh. Really love this place!

Very fresh fish, loved the crab handroll, great tasting menu options. It was a little uncomfortably hectic during lunch but people were still getting seated as walk-ins. Casual atmosphere.

Amazing and consistent as always! Great casual omakasse style meal. They are the closest in terms of the quality we experience in Tokyo in terms of their fish and their warm rice seasoned to perfection in their Nigeria. Highly recommend the salmon nigiri there.

My friend and I came in on a weekday night and they were out of a lot of kinds of fish: yellowtail, salmon, crab, and one other fish on the taste menu had to be substituted. With a very limited menu in the first place, to be out of the best fishes on a random evening was shocking honestly. The servers were nice and handled the situation well. But they forgot to bring the drink I ordered. The tables were also very squished together and you naturally overheard surrounding tables' conversations, which does disturb the romantic atmosphere if that's what you're going for. Which also impedes bringing children- there's no space, and any extra noise or energy would be really disruptive to the people sandwiched next to you. We stayed, we were pleasant, but very confused at such a disappointing meal. There are a ton of delicious sushi restaurants in the city thankfully, no need to try another overhyped restaurant again.

Google
Sugarfish was a decent experience overall. The atmosphere had the right vibes, but the space was pretty cramped, with tables close together, making it feel a bit crowded. It was hard to avoid overhearing conversations from the table next to us, which made it feel less intimate. This particular location is quite small, tucked away in a corner of a shopping center, which added to the feeling of being in a cozy, somewhat crowded space. Despite the noise and tight seating, the service was impressive. The staff was quick to attend to us, and every waiter was incredibly friendly and attentive. They made sure we had everything we needed and took care of our table efficiently, even though the atmosphere was loud and busy. As for the food, it was decent but not mind-blowing. We decided to try the $46 course, which gave us an experimental experience, offering a mix of sushi and hand rolls. While everything was fine, it wasn't anything that stood out too much, except for the hand rolls, which were definitely the highlight. They were fresh, flavorful, and well-made, really elevating the meal. Overall, while the food was decent and the service excellent, the tight space and noise might not be ideal for those looking for a more relaxed dining experience. However, if you're in the mood for fresh sushi and don't mind the bustling atmosphere, Sugarfish could be a solid choice.

I’ve always loved this spot and have been here countless times, but today’s experience left me disappointed. We arrived with our 11-month-old asleep in a stroller and quickly realized there was no space for it inside. Since the restaurant often has outdoor seating, we asked if it would be possible to sit outside instead. To our surprise, the hosts were completely unwilling to accommodate us and declined to set up a table outdoors, even if it meant turning us away. We chose to stay and make it work, but then I noticed the manager and another staff member whispering and laughing in our direction, which felt unprofessional and disheartening. Later, they were whispering to our waiter as well, and our food ended up arriving completely out of order. Our waters and teas also took 20 minutes to arrive, which made us feel singled out and unwelcome. This place used to be run with such warmth and hospitality, and I truly hope it can get back to that standard. For now, though, it may be a while before I return - which is a shame, because I’ve always enjoyed coming here.

Google
the sushi was ok but not great. the rice was too sweet and warm and falling apart. the fish was hit or miss. the hand rolls were the best part of the set menu; if I go back (which I don't expect to do), I would just order a few of those. I didn't try the items from the specials menu, maybe those would have been a better choice. on a positive note, the service was very good, and I loved their no-tip policy.

Yelp
Consistently 5/5! Sugarfish in Marina del Rey is hands-down one of my favorite sushi spots in LA, and it never fails to deliver an incredible meal. I almost always order the Nozawa Trust Me, which I think is the perfect way to experience everything they do so well. The portions are just right, you leave feeling full and satisfied, but never overly heavy. The set starts with warm, salted edamame before moving into the freshest tuna sashimi. The tuna and chutoro sashimi with ponzu and chives is melt-in-your-mouth perfection and sets the tone for the rest of the meal. The albacore sushi with ponzu is bright and clean, while the salmon sushi with toasted sesame adds a nutty richness. The toro hand roll is always a highlight, buttery, rich, and perfectly balanced by the crisp nori and warm rice. From there, it only gets better. The chutoro sushi is my absolute favorite and is unbelievably silky, and the yellowtail is light, fresh, and zesty. The New Zealand sea bream has a nice pop of flavor with the citrus salt, while the hirame with yuzu ponzu is subtle and refreshing. To finish, the blue and Dungeness crab hand roll is the perfect last bite sweet, briny crab wrapped in crunchy seaweed with warm rice. You do have to wait in line since Sugarfish doesn't take reservations, but it's worth every minute. On my last visit (a Saturday around lunch), I lucked out with no wait, which was such a treat especially because I was visiting with a friend from out of town. The service is always friendly and efficient, the atmosphere is casual but polished, and the consistency in quality is unmatched. I love bringing out-of-town friends here because it's always a guaranteed hit. Between the warm rice, the pristine fish, and the thoughtful progression of the meal, Sugarfish MDR really captures what makes sushi special. If you want a meal that feels both elevated and approachable, this is the spot.

Yelp
The first time I tried sugarfish in downtown LA I was blown away. The omakase experience was incredible to someone who hadn't much familiarity with Japanese cuisine. Years later after having been to Japan twice and many other sushi establishments since, I can say that what truly stands out of Sugarfish is their consistently warm rice and that so many of their omakase dishes have ponzu sauce, which appeals to my personal preference for citrusy flavors. I've gotten all versions of their omakase and I can say now with absolute certainty that the $60 Don't think Just order is overpriced for what it is. It was too much food coming out too fast and it was a less enjoyable experience. The trust me or trust me nogawa are a great entry point if you're not sure what you like. Now though, I think I'd just order a la carte in the future. My most recent omakase experience was hit and miss enough that I don't think it's worth it. I didn't care for the unagi. It was too sweet. The pink lobster was straight up awful - from the flavor to the texture - I couldn't finish it. The edamame was plain. The sea bream was just OK. The other omakase cuts of fish were very good and they melted in your mouth delicious. The sashimi is 100% worth every penny and perfectly balanced with the sauce. I'd come back for that and the classic nigiri as well. The hand rolls were fine and if you prefer that to nigiri I recommend kazu Nori. Their to go cut roll meals don't do it justice because the rice just isn't warm like it is at the restaurant. That cold fish warm rice contrast is part of what makes the experience so great. Okay enough about the food. This is probably the biggest sugarfish location I've gone to. It was nice to be in a less crowded restaurant to enjoy our meal. The bathrooms were a little busy. I went in to wash my hands before my meal and again after my meal. I liked that they offered in scented hand soap for before the meal and scented for after. However I'd noticed a puddle of water under the toilet after my first visit to wash my hands that I would have hoped would have been mopped up by the second visit at the end of my meal. Just a little something I noticed. Not sure how often the bathrooms get cleaned but it seems not hourly. Logistically speaking, this is the easiest sugarfish location I've been to in terms of parking and access. I love that's there ample parking in the lot. I don't think we've ever had a wait when we've come in. And we always come on weekends. But even if there were a wait, the shopping center it's located in has something for everyone to explore while waiting for a table. We went shopping to walk off our meal and it was perfect. Overall, this sushi spot is special and different enough that it always feels like a treat to have it. I recommend trying omakase the first time and paying close attention to your favorites. Then coming back and ordering those a la carte. Your belly and wallet will thank you!

Yelp
Our first time here after hearing all the raving reviews and loved it. We got the nozawa trust me and it was too much food. Will definitely just go with the regular trust me menu next time. The menu is pretty limited, and contains the most basic of nigiri options. If you're just getting into sushi and not wanting to be too adventurous, this menu is for you. That said, the sushi here is delicious don't get me wrong. I love that the rice is always served warm and the fish is fresh/ prepped well. They don't take reservations so you have to wait in line. Trust me, it's worth it!

Yelp
Had a quick solo lunch at the bar right before catching a flight at LAX. Was able to get in and out in 35 minutes around 1pm on a Wednesday. The bar seating was spacious and I had room for my bags underneath. Service was friendly and attentive at the bar. If I had more time, I would have liked to try one of the lunch tasting menus, but instead I ordered some sushi and hand rolls a la carte. Everything was fresh and tasty. Nigiri: Salmon (5/5) Kama Toro (5/5) so good! Hand rolls: Toro (4.5/5) Crab (5/5) a generous amount of crab! Note that this is a no tipping establishment, and a 16% fee is included with the bill.

Yelp
I had a delicious lunch here. I drove all the way from Pico Rivera on a whim. I have sushi places close to me but I had Sugarfish, at this location, one time as a take out because I was working out here. I was shocked how fresh and delicious the take out was. I think I got a simple box, I can't remember exactly what I got. That was over two years ago. Anyway, I made the drive because not only was I craving good sushi, I wanted great sushi. When I got there I was nervous because the sign is off the wall. I thought they had closed but I saw customers dining inside. I sat at the counter. I ordered the toro sashimi. It was so fresh and sumptuous. Adding a little wasabi and soy put those bites over the top. I loved the toro was prepared as a finely chopped ball. Very unique. It was a special experience to have bites like that instead of the typical sushi style way. I also had the crab hand roll. That was the best I've ever had. They were generous with real crab meat. Delicious. I had albacore belly, another toro, and sweet shrimp. All of it was exceptional and exactly what I drove all that way for. I wish I could have some now! Also, I appreciate the information provided on the menu that teaches you what good sushi really is and how some sushi places aren't truthful about where they source their fish. I appreciate their care in the ingredients. You definitely can taste the difference.

Yelp
A beautiful spot to get dinner or celebrate any occasion. I came here for my birthday last night and I ordered the Trust Me platters. The fish here tastes very fresh and will have you second guessing where you eat sushi.

Yelp
Sugarfish is my go-to place when I want consistent, good quality nigiri - it's also clean and dimly lit with just the right amount of spacing between tables to make it a great casual date night spot. Most importantly for me, though, is that this location is one of the Sugarfish locations that has a dog friendly patio! I find that good quality sushi and dog-friendly seating is a surprisingly rare pairing, so we come here pretty often since I'm rarely NOT in the mood for sushi. The wait is usually not too bad as long as it's not a holiday or a weekend (specifically dinner), which is nice as they don't take reservations. My go-to order is the "don't think, just eat", which is currently priced at $59. I will say that I really only order the other lower priced options if I'm not too hungry. Everything overall is delicious, and the selection - which is technically supposed to be "omakase style" in which they serve you whatever the kitchen decides that day - is actually very consistent. The pictures attached to this review are pretty much what you're going to get 90% of the time, with maybe an exception here or there if they're out of a specific fish. This, however, means that you can't make alterations to what comes out unlike the other sets. Here's my item by item breakdown of your typical "don't think, just eat": Tuna ponzu appetizer (5/5): So, the thing is with this appetizer is that it's kind of a roll of the dice as to what kind of cuts you're going to get. Some days, it'll be mostly lean tuna, and some days, you might get pieces of what tastes like toro (see picture attached!). The good part is that even if you mostly just get lean tuna, it's still going to taste great - the citrusy ponzu-based marinade really helps neutralize the iron-y flavors that typically turn me off of lean tuna. But if you get fattier tuna - well, it only gets better. Toro (5/5): Sugarfish never misses with their quality control. The toro is always buttery, melt in your mouth goodness. Salmon Konbu (4.5/5): The very first time I had this nigiri, I was a little bit confused by the addition of the konbu - it really makes it taste nothing like a normal salmon nigiri. After having it several times, I've really grown to like it! It has a mellow sweetness that adds additional depth to the flavor of the salmon. Albacore (4/5): The albacore tastes is paired with what I presume is some kind of ponzu - the sauce is quite tart. Since albacore is a pretty mild flavored fish, the tartness really comes through. I've definitely been more impressed with other executions of albacore nigiri/sushi, but there's nothing inherently wrong with this one. Toro Handroll (5/5): I'm a big fan of Kazunori, and since they're all under sushi Nozawa, it's no surprise that the handrolls at Sugarfish are great too. Finely chopped toro, crisp nori, and warm rice is always a winning combo. Chutoro (5/5): Some days, this can be hard to distinguish from the toro. Same remarks here, consistently good. Pink Lobster (5/5): If you like raw shrimp, you'll love this - though I can understand the "slimier" texture potentially being off putting for people unfamiliar with raw shellfish. It has a mild sweetness and slight springiness to the bite. Red Snapper with Shiso (3/5): Red snapper is not one of my favorite fish - it's slightly chewy, firm, and tastes very clean but in a "has practically no flavor" kind of way since it's a very lean fish. Adding the shiso leaf really just makes this taste mostly of shiso since shiso is such a powerful flavor - and if you love shiso, this might be for you, but for me this one is always the fish I hope they're conveniently out of stock on when I go, haha. Lobster Handroll (5/5): I would be happy eating just this the entire meal. Also available at Kazunori and it's always the highlight of my meal. Anago (4.5/5): Sister to unagi, anago is saltwater eel (vs unagi being freshwater) and tends to be slightly less fatty. You still get a very soft, buttery bite though and it's a great finisher to the meal. Thanks for all the great meals, and we'll definitely be back soon!

Yelp
Another excellent meal. I am never, ever disappointed. This is my go to for simple sushi. I am not interested in much besides amazing quality fish. I'm not one for rolls with cream cheese or fried things. I like the fish with some nice warm sushi rice. Always exceptional service at this location. Only downside is it's in a Caruso mall, oh well. Every single time it's an exceptional meal. Easy enough parking and usually not a super long wait.

Yelp
Ama ebi nigiri for $7!?? I regret not ordering more!!! It was so good. My friend and I placed an order for pick up before heading to LAX, and it was my first time trying Sugarfish so I ordered one of the preset boxes. I ate my box in the car and it was pretty good and filling. I'm not a fan of some of the white fish but wanted to try the set anyway. Next time I would just order a la carte so I could get as many ama ebi and Hokkaido scallops nigiris as I want haha.

Yelp
This place usually has a wait, so we were pleasantly surprised to drop in during Monday lunch with no wait. The food is delicious as always. The place is clean and modern. The service was friendly and prompt, yet the food came out almost too fast. The next course came out while we were still eating the previous course. It's always a treat to eat here. And plenty of parking in the shopping center.

Yelp
This place is always busy, but it's in a really popular plaza with a lot of of other things to do if you need to wait. Parking is always available. Today, the weight was about two hours, but since I was alone, I was able to get seated at the bar right away. I chose the Nozawa trust me and a few other things from the specialty menu. The Seabream with shiso, scallops, and sweet shrimp. Yum yum yum!! Service is fresh and fast as they are always preparing! I love this place. It's a great place to dine with family kids, friends and dates!

Yelp
Sugarfish did not live up to the hype, the sushi is delicious but not mindblowing. The quality of the fish is good but the dining experience was not luxurious, and overcrowded.

Yelp
Food quality: 3/5 Presentation: 2/5 Attention to detail: 2/5 Service: 4/5 Vibes: Cramped & loud. Your finance co-worker would suggest this kind of place for lunch. Value: 2.5/5 Times been: 1 Return? No Hmm. I am surprised that people are endorsing the quality of the fish so much. It certainly is not bad, but it is by no means great. While it is great that the fish quality is not a crime against humanity, the rice is. There is clearly very little care put into the rice, as it is slightly dry, falls apart, and feels it like it was shaped by a machine then refrigerated until needed. The presentation of the food is also a little off putting, as everything is clearly rushed. This is seen through poor consistency in the slicing of the fish and boring places and lack of garnishing--let the picture of the handroll speak for me. This might seem like a harsh review, which it is to some degree, but you also have to realize that you can skip the wait, be in a nicer environment, and pay less FOR BETTER FOOD. Overall, not worth trying but also not horrible.

Yelp
Sugarfish in Marina del Rey is my go to sushi stop. The vibe inside was super nice--great for a night out or date--but only thing is that it's super packed. We had to wait about two hours, but honestly, it was so worth it. The chutoro roll was so good in the Nozawa Trust Me that I had to order another one. It was buttery, fatty, and just melted in my mouth. Everything we tried was tasted quality. If you're planning to go, just know it's super busy, so either get there early or be ready to wait. That said, there is a decent shopping center to view while you wait. I definitely recommend.

Yelp
While in LA we had a chance to catch up with some close friends and when we 1st met years ago, we were all enjoying Sushi. Fitting right... so we headed to Sugarfish for dinner before making some more wild plans for the night. They don't take reservations so you may have a little bit of wait, but the plaza hosts a few other "watering spots" where you can have a cocktail. When we returned towards the end of the night, we were seated pretty quickly. the menu was broken up into pallets. We decided to go with "The Don't Think Just Eat". I'm always down for a great surprise. Unfortunately, a few key items were unavailable as it was towards the end of the evening, but thankfully they were able to make some substitutions to accommodate. Edamame comes with all so the 4 of us got a chance to enjoy it, followed by some Tish sashimi yellowtail, salmon, and Hand Toros. Substitutions folded over with things like Hand Crab & Toro Hand rolls. One of the other perks was scallops. I think the tourist sashimi large scallops and hand crab Toro were the stars. Yellowtail was also really good. They have other locations throughout LA so I would definitely consider going as the experience for us was a great surprise at a reasonable price for quality food.

Yelp
Finally experienced this amazing restaurant in person and not just take out or delivery!! We had a fabulous weekend lunch around 2:00 pm (they stop serving lunch at 3:30 but it's not a huge deal, box prices just go up about $5) we didn't have to wait long which was great! Only about 5 minutes and we sat at the bar. Sometimes the line is down the street! We both ordered the Trust Me and everything we tried was exceptional! The fish is so beyond fresh it's award winning! Great little stop I love how small and intimate the inside is! I'm thinking less than 20 tables and the host said that's how all the locations are!

Yelp
Got the Trust Me and Sugarfish, I Trust You! The line-up was so good and so fresh, from the salmon to the himachi to the rice. Loved eating outdoors with our dog in the pleasant plaza. Great people-watching. Would go back tomorrow. 5 stars!!!

Yelp
The service here is always great, my sister and I love coming to this location. It gets a little busy so wait times can get a little long. Other than that I have no complaints, the sushi always tastes fresh & it's a good ambiance.

Yelp
Sugarfish really lives up to its hype. It is such a unique experience and service was great. My party of two arrived Sunday evening around 6PM and it took a little more than 30 minutes to get seated. The MDR location is situated in a strip plaza with free parking. We ordered the Nozawa Trust Me which came with edameme, variety of nigiri, handrolls, and sashimi. Standouts were the two handrolls (toro and blue crab) and the salmon sashimi. The fish tasted very fresh, and they douse almost all the pieces with citrusy ponzu (though a bit much for my liking). The dishes came one after the other, and sometimes there were lulls in between dishes but it gave you room to digest. We also ordered the sweet shrimp and anago off the menu which were okay to me. Overall, a great experience. I left more full than expected and thought the prix fixe sets are tastefully designed. Only con is the tables were very close to other parties, but worth it for a shorter wait :)

Yelp
I've been a customer here for 10+ years at this location and I was extremely disappointed with my experience tonight. They had 12+ servers working the floor which was unnecessary because they were hanging out in the back cashier area just chatting and sipping on their ice green tea and having a kiki instead of working. They were not attentive and usually the service is on point since they have the automatic tip but they were not clearing the plates or checking in. Food was pretty good as always but the rice was extra vinegar-y today so that was interesting. Would still come here though, but they don't need 12+ servers working at the same time.

Yelp
I don't know how I haven't reviewed SUGARFISH in Marina Del Rey yet because I am literally here like every month. I love SUGARFISH - it's one of my go-to sushi spots in the Playa area. This SUGARFISH location doesn't seem to be quite as busy as others and even if there is a wait, it generally goes quickly. I like sitting at the bar or an inside table but there is also outdoor seating. I almost always order the Nozawa dinner and leave feeling so, so, so full (borderline uncomfortable). I love the toro and the handrolls. Who am I kidding, I love everything - especially how the rice is warm and everything melts in your mouth. Even the water at SUGARFISH seems to taste better than water elsewhere... maybe it's just a me thing, who knows. Even though it's a no-tipping restaurant and your check doesn't come with a pen, don't forget to fill out the card (twice per year) to be eligible for the birthday promo (free Trust Me) on your birthday. Enjoy!

Yelp
Went well...I took my girlfriend who has never been to SugarFish. They had good service and kind staff. The ambiance was great and the food was yum! Definitely up there in the top 5 sushi chains.

Yelp
I love going here! We went right before lunch rush it normally it's a 20-30 minute Wait at least! The albacore is delicious with the ponzu and it comes with edamame and sashimi too when you get the set menus. Lovely atmosphere and fun for a date!

Yelp
I left a not super-sparkly review a couple years ago and I wanted to say I've been back several times since then and the food is consistently fantastic. The staff are much friendlier and I love the vibe. Having outside seating in the marina is pretty dang great as well. This is for sure my favorite sushi place. :)

Yelp
Updating to share how great their takeout boxes have been as well. Sushi and takeout aren't two experiences that I usually put together, but Sugarfish does it right. The guide on the top of the box tells you just what you are eating and how to pair it with the included sauces. It's amazing to have such fresh and tasty fish delivered so quickly with all the toppings and sauces organized so nicely this is a staple for me every visit to LA for work and I look forward to this healthy and simple option again

Yelp
No words. Honestly probably my favorite sushi restaurant of all time. Everytime I go, the tasting menu is always spectacular no matter which order size you get. The quality of the fish is fresh and the prices are very reasonable considering the amount of sushi you are getting.

Yelp
Truthfully, I would probably give 3.5 stars but to be fair, we should probably have gotten the Don't Think, Just Eat Omakase. My wife and I both went with the Trust Me Omakase. We have had a fair amount of omakase, and our expectations should probably have been lowered since the cost was only $30. We are used to paying a lot more than that for omakase, which should have been the first hint that we should have gotten the highest box. On the positive side, all of the fish seemed very fresh and the box is very nicely put together with pictures and suggestions for sauces to use with each sushi although I am not sure why they don't include the sauce pairings on their online menu on the box. Their online menu tells you which ones to use soy sauce or ponzu. If we come back, we will have to try their DTJE box!

Yelp
had heard sugarfish was a classic la spot so last minute tried to go here after we had a small dinner at a cocktail spot nearby. We got there at like 8/9 on a Sunday night and there was about a 15 minute wait for outside seating and 45 for inside, we decided we didn't wanna wait too long so we sat outside. I would say the outside is minimally decorated and just feels like you're at an outside mall. The inside is much better decorated and has a better vibe I'd say but we are just too impatient. I didn't realize sugar fish was known for their set menus so we all got those. Overall it was really good and I think well worth the price. It appears that they never change their sets and it's the same year round which is a bit disappointing to me but alas I guess that's why it's a good deal. Overall it was good!

Yelp
Food Have a been a long time of Sugarfish and was the first time i got to try it in the marina del rey branch. I got the Nozawa Trust me. It came with a variety of rolls and sushi. Overall, I got to say it was really good. Premium quality fish that just melts in your mouth and you could really taste the quality of the fish. Lows for me was the tuna sashimi which was the first course. The tuna was just doused in ponzu, so you couldn't really taste fish that much if that was the highlight. The best of the course was definitely the Handrolls. The course came with toro and dungeness crab handrolls. Both were really good. Crunchy seaweed with good quality seafood. To close out the course with the dungeness crab was really good since that was the best in the course for me. Each and every sushi course, was just melt in your mouth freshness. For the price, I'd say it was definitely worth it given the quality of seafood. Service/Ambiance The moment you go in you're greeted with this modern take on an omakase style sushi house. The staff were really nice and accommodating. Food came in pretty good timing between each course.

Yelp
I found my way here while my wife was at the hospital across the street. Plenty of parking and lots of eating options in the center. Having eaten at Sugarfish locations in the past, a good sushi lunch was appealing. I was served by Grace who did a nice job. I had the, "Trust Me" pre-selected assortment @ $30. It was described by Grace as a good assortment that would not fill me up too much. Edamame Tuna Sashimi - ponzu and chives Albacore Sushi - ponzu and chives, 2-pc Salmon Sushi - toasted sesame, 2-pc Toro Hand Roll Japanese Yellowtail* Sushi - lemon, 1-pc Blue & Dungeness Crab Hand Roll The sushi was definitely fresh, and the service was on point, mind you, $64.78 for lunch is not cheap, but I did have a Sapporo ($7) and cold sake, Nozawa - super dry ($14.00). The quality and freshness of the fish is excellent. The staff and service was good, so I guess that I can't really complain too much. FYI, they automatically add a 16% 'Fee' to the bill, yet they call themselves a NO TIPPING ESTABLISHMENT, in all caps on the check. LOL.

Yelp
Sugarfish is pretty known for their sushi ..: but it was my first time. I enjoyed the experience and the fish was so fresh.

Yelp
Love making the trek to Sugarfish when we're in the mood for some fresh sushi. I was also able to eat here a few times while pregnant thanks to their cooked crab roll which has now become one of my fave snacks. Enjoy ordering the trust me plates whenever we pop in and my partner loves taking advantage of the birthday special. We also often order some other stuff off the specials menu and we also leave feeling satiated yet light. Food taste fresh, service is quick, can be busy and they only seat your entire party. Parking lot shared with other businesses but we've never had an issue getting a spot or a table. The space is tight for seating but cozy and there is a patio option as well.

Yelp
Just to get it out of the way -- the service was fine but the music a bit TOO loud for a sushi restaurant of this reputation and caliber. Now, for my complaints: I've been to many other SUGARFISH locations and have also loved the Kazunori locations as well. However, there were two standout differences between this Sugarfish location (MDR) and other locations (Hollywood) as well as differences between Kazunori (Carthay Circle). Rice: This location's rice was very vinegar forward (overpowering vinegar) and oversteamed. Instead of the chewy texture I am familiar with (and which I had at Kazunori), I had a mushy mess. I even made a point to tell the waiter. I think they also gave too much rice in the handrolls and the nigiri (Kazunori however, was fine). Iced Matcha: Kazunori's matcha was perfectly blended and tasted delicious. The Sugarfish (MDR) version was very watered down. Also, when asking for a to-go cup for the matcha, the cup was SMALLER than the Kazunori's to-go cup. Conclusion: For a sushi restaurant to have mediocre rice????? That is unheard of. For a one hour wait too... I regret getting the most expensive set for four people. I will not be back at this location, and maybe for other SUGARFISH... Kazunori is the best.

Yelp
We ordered take out and it was good but not great. For the price point I was expecting a better quality but I get that people get the box for the aesthetic too. The yellowtail tasted a bit fishy.

Yelp
Hard to get into you will need to make a reservation! But the warm rice with the fresh fish on top is absolutely oh my God! But the best thing this place makes is the blue crab handle roll. It is absolutely incredible. Get this place into your life you will not regret it.

Yelp
Clean, friendly. Very prompt. Food was awesome. Highly recommend this place. Tip is included in the price. The prices for the quality is on point. My favorite sushi by far!

Yelp
Sugarfish was alright. The vibes were there. The place was packed, like a bunch of tables close together. And you can hear the table next to you whole conversation. This location's restaurant as a whole is very small and in a small corner of a shopping center. The service came by really fast. All of the waiters were all super sweet and very attentive to what was going on at the table, even though the atmosphere was very loud. The food was decent. What were order was experimental. We both got $46 course, which was cool. The hand rolls were the show stopper!!!

Yelp
Great consistent experience. Just go on off times because the wait can be longer than an hour sometimes.

Yelp
I was excited to try this sugar fish in the Marina as I was attending a special event in the area. I chose to sit at the bar as it was just me and I ordered the $25 variety special which was perfect and delicious. The waiter wasn't very attentive and seemed very bored with his job as I had to ask for everything including more ginger. The place was cute and cozy. The guest next to me was having a lobster roll so I tried that, but it was nothing special to me. The new waiter that took over when there was a ship change was delightful...helpful and nice. The tip is included and it's a fair 16%. I'm not sure if that's a good thing or not especially when you don't have great service, but I would go back even though I was disappointed that there was nothing spicy!

Yelp
Sugarfish is always a solid spot to order take out from. The food is always great and fresh! The service is efficient and quick. This location in a shopping center that can get really busy! All the sugarfish locations have the same clean vibe to them. Highly Recommend: To Go Nazawa Trust Me Lobster Cut Roll Good But Nit Great Toro Cut Roll

Yelp
Came here around 8pm and the wait was about an hour. We ordered the 6 rolls and subbed the scallops for shrimp, which turned out to be my favorite. The food is beyond delicious, the simplicity and taste are mind blowing. The staff were super quick and friendly. Very small place and cozy, elegant vibes

Yelp
Lots of fresh sushi for a great price, got this to go as we were cutting it close to closing time but the service once we got there was quick and easy.

Yelp
Forced Gratuity. When asked what the charge is, the best they could answer was a shrug of the shoulders, a smile and "It is just a tip." Very telling of what sort of management they have. I don't expect much from the low level employees, but management should be more accountable for forcing gratuity on customers. You guys don't deserve the $6.40. That's how bad the interaction was. Notice how the bottom of the receipt clearly says "WE ARE A NO TIPPING ESTABLISHMENT".

Yelp
I'm from Hawaii and whenever me & my husband visit LA this is always our last stop. It's near the airport, lots of parking and there's a Trader Joe's the next block over which is perfect. The service is always top notch and the quality of fish you get for such an affordable price can't be beat. It is a small restaurant though and they don't take reservations so make sure you go early to check in or in between common meal times.

Yelp
It was my first time visiting this Sugarfish location with my girlfriend to celebrate a belated birthday. While I don't usually believe most "five-star" restaurants are really deserving, this place lives up to the hype. We sailed in around 1:30 on a Monday afternoon, and the restaurant was delightfully uncrowded. The decor is minimal and very classy, and the service was impeccable. Each of us ordered a "Trust Me Light" set, two hot green teas, and we split a bottle of sake. The courses came precisely when they were supposed to, with perfect timing, the edamame was perfectly seasoned, the fish was fresh and delicious, and the fact that the rice was served warm is honestly life-changing. Not a single bad thing to say, and we will definitely come back. Love ya, Sugarfish!!

Yelp
My first time dining @ Sugarfish. The food was fresh and extremely tasty. Service was prompt and friendly.
