Hide in the 11 Best Dive Bars in Charleston | Eater Carolinas

"King Street dive bar Sugey’s Bar is dedicated to all things heavy metal — but even if you don’t listen to Motorhead, you’ll have a good time here. Concert posters line the walls and old slasher movies play behind the bar. The drink selections are more sophisticated than most dives, with a decent wine selection, local beers, and tropical concoctions like the Pantang Painslayer (a take on the Painkiller)." - Erin Perkins

If you're looking for a metal bar with a great atmosphere and friendly staff, this is the place to go. Though it may seem a little spooky to passersby on the street, the bar is actually a very pleasant place to be for a couple drinks and to hang out with friends. The bar is clean, and the prices here are good for being on King Street, and they do not skimp on the alcohol. They do have a small oven for pizzas if you do feel hungry while you're there as well. Do be aware that the place doesn't fill up until after the restaurants close due to the main crowd mostly being restaurant staff from downtown. Overall a great place to chill out for an hour or two.

An awesome addition to Charleston. Went on a Friday night and had a great time. Good mixed drinks and awesome bar staff. The service was perfect and the design/decor really set the mood. Love it. My friends and I have found our new hangout. 🦇

I was so excited to have a lil tiki bar in Charleston and even better, this one plays metal! This is a great dive bar with flair and delicious cocktails! I got the Painslayer and the Tequila Em All. Both were so tasty!

Love love love this bar! Can't go wrong with a heavy metal bar that shows scary movies and skate videos. It feels like a warm hug. I love the vibe!! Nice to have a bar to feel at home at when I'm visiting from Savannah frequently. :)

This place is freaking RAD! Know what you’re getting into. It’s a metal bar. An establishment of affordable drinks and interesting culture. The places is filled with eye candy. You can spend a few hours taking in great B movies and VHS concerts. A more than worthwhile place to visit for Locals and visitors.

I like this place. The bartenders are friendly, the horror movies are entertaining and the bathroom has some wise words. $2 pbr's and a cool vibe, what more could you ask for?

Yelp
Casual bar off the beaten path that really stands out in a good way - Has a really unique vibe to it, lots of posters and artwork for old school horror flicks and metal bands. Really feels like somebody's love project that was well executed. - The drinks are very reasonably priced. - The bartenders who do the music have excellent taste in metal music.
