Fantastic atmosphere! Awesome food, though a bit pricey. We went there on Friday night and had a good time. Customers were lining up once it was dusk. You can tell the waiters were trying to serve you as best as they could. I really enjoyed their sashimi, so fresh! So next time when you're in the Broadway area, do check them out :)

The atmosphere here was great! Staff have so much energy and it seemed like everyone was celebrating a birthday here. The food was so good, we ordered a lot for the table to share. The crab croquettes were so good, highly Recommended. The corn kakiage was pretty good. The sushi platter was fresh and the pork tomahawk was delicious.

Been a few years since we’ve eaten at Suika. Quality is the same, portions have decreased. Atmosphere is still fun and lively. Shared the black garlic edamame ($6.40), two kimchi tuna tartar ($14.80 for 3) and corn kakiage ($12.00) to start. For mains, we had salmon pressed sushi ($17.40), hamachi pressed sushi ($18.40), signature beef curry ($15.80), gyutan bibimbap ($18.80), sansho unagi bibimbap ($19.80), uni and crab carbonara udon ($19.00), miso carbonara udon ($18.20) and dynamic pork tomahawk ($25.40). Finished with the sakekasu cheese-ish cake ($6.80), frozen matcha brulee ($8.00) and kinako tiramisu ($7.80). Best items were the beef tongue bibimbap (rice got super crispy) and black garlic edamame. Tomahawk was disappointingly fatty. Desserts were all great.

We've been to Suika Japanese Restaurant more times than we can count, and let me tell you -- they've never let us or our guests down! Suika has a solid regular menu, seasonal specials that keep things fresh, and drinks that are as beautifully crafted as the food. Every dish is a masterpiece, but a few plates really stole the show. Aburi Salmon Pressed Sushi: This dish is a flavour explosion! Fresh, silky salmon paired with perfectly seasoned rice -- it's like sushi heaven in every bite. Tokyo Oxtail Ramen: Rich, savoury broth infused with slow-cooked oxtail, topped with tender noodles and fresh ingredients for an authentic Tokyo ramen experience. Fantastic dish! Tenderloin Sizzling Steak: The steak arrives with a sizzling hot stone aside, ready to cook to your perfect level of doneness right at your table. Juicy, tender, and bursting with flavour, it's a steak lover's dream come true. It's a must-order! Overall, Suika has earned a permanent spot in our hearts (and our stomachs). We highly recommend it -- it's no wonder we're loyal customers! 📝📝 Food: 🍣🍣🍣🍣 Should Try! Service: 👩‍🍳👩‍🍳👩‍🍳👩‍🍳 Kids: 👶👶👶👶 Yay! Price: 💲💲💲💲 $100-$150 each person (dinner - birthday celebration) Presentation: 📷📷📷📷 Parking: metered parking on the street Tips: 📝 Make a reservation--they're always packed. 📝 Plan your time if you want dessert; there's a 2-hour seating limit. 📝 Have an extensive cocktail menu with plenty of options. 📝 Great place for birthday celebrations, and it comes with a fun, energetic vibe! Would I Return: Yes 👱‍♀️

All the food ordered didn't disappoint in terms of taste, texture and presentation 😋👏🏻 Tried: - tuna tataki - uni and crab udon - truffle beef ragout udon - chirashi Highly recommended...and don't forget to RSVP!

Very very pleased with this restaurant. You can tell the employees enjoy being part of the atmosphere, they contribute to it and provide an excellent service. The food, the drinks and everything in between was beyond expectation. The watermelon mango mojito was excellent, the karaage was super juicy and the main dish was wonderful. I would recommend to all.

Did we order lots of food? Yes we did 😂 because they are one of the best restaurants in town. We ordered Sashimi platter, back ribs, Eel don, noodle salad, crab croquette, tuna tataki, pork jowl and 1 sushi I believe it was toro. Yup for 2 people. The bill was only $260 including a bottle of white wine and tip as well. I think it was so reasonable. Seafood are quite fresh but again it’s Vancouver. You wouldn’t get fresher than what it is. The taste is amazing. Blended between the old traditional flavour with a twist of modern creation. It’s definitely worth visiting.

Yelp
Came here tonight to celebrate a friend's birthday. Service is nothing less than perfect. With very late notice, our server quickly whipped up a dessert and with lights out, orchestrated the whole place to sing Happy Birthday. Food is always on point here. From tapas to mains, dishes are prepared with so much creativity, tastes so delicate! The winner of the night got to be Tenderloin Sizzling Steak! Loved the dipping sauce. Never miss this dish every time I come to Suika.

Yelp
Great option if you have a large group. Even better if it's someone's birthday. They play music and dim the lights, and the staff then brings out a dessert for the birthday person so it's a whole thing. I swear at least 5 groups were celebrating a birthday when we came. I would describe the food as solid izakaya food, not going to be the most innovative or fancy, but everything is a safe bet. Wouldn't consider it a destination spot to visit if you're coming from out of town and only have a few meals to spare, but a good option if you're a local looking to book a large group dinner. We got: corn kakiage - Good fried bite to start off the meal. hamachi carpaccio - This was solid, the kiwi vinaigrette was a unique touch. hamachi pressed sushi - This was one of our favorites, we got a second order. chicken karaage - This was actually really good, the chicken was super juicy and tender, and outside was crispy. I wish we had ordered a sauce with it. gyutan bibimbap - This was fine but I felt like there was too much rice relative to other stuff. Mostly just a dish to get if you need to fill yourself up. uni and crab carbonara udon - I don't like these type of creamy noodles, but I did like the plentiful ikura in the dish so just ended up picking that out. For dessert the coconut sakekasu cheesecake was quite disappointing (quite dense), but the creamy chestnut pudding was enjoyable enough, though pretty simple.

Yelp
Absolutely incredible Japanese food. Super authentic flavors! The uni and crab carbonara was so creamy while still being light and not too heavy like western carbonara. There wasn't too much of a fishy flavor and the uni is mixed into the sauce. The crab was delicious and the roe added a salty kick to each bite. The chirashi set was so delicious! The sashimi was so fresh and it's on top of a seasoned sushi rice that was also light and tasty. The drinks were also delicious and refreshing in the summer weather. Service was so friendly and attentive, it felt like we were in Japan hearing the staff call orders in Japanese. The seating area was spacious and comfortable with very cute decor! I'd absolutely come back so often if I lived here!

Yelp
Been a few years since we've eaten at Suika. Quality is the same, portions have decreased. Atmosphere is still fun and lively. Four birthday celebrations when we went on a Monday evening. Our group of 7 shared the black garlic edamame ($6.40), two kimchi tuna tartar ($14.80 for 3) and corn kakiage ($12.00) to start. For mains, we had salmon pressed sushi ($17.40), hamachi pressed sushi ($18.40), signature beef curry ($15.80), gyutan bibimbap ($18.80), sansho unagi bibimbap ($19.80), uni and crab carbonara udon ($19.00), miso carbonara udon ($18.20) and dynamic pork tomahawk ($25.40). Best items were the beef tongue bibimbap (rice got super crispy) and black garlic edamame. Tomahawk was disappointing; fatty and more like pork belly. Desserts were all great.

Yelp
One of the OG izakaya places in Vancouver, I've come here a couple of times since they first opened a decade+ ago. They're consistent and the ambience is great even though I would say they don't offer the best food of its kind here. This time I was here for a birthday and they set us up in a privateish area for our party of 15. I got pitcher of some cold peach drink that was nice, but the peach pieces keep getting stuck in the thin bamboo straws - preferable to the paper ones but a wider straw would be better. For my main, I had the grilled fish set - salmon and mackerel was the fish of the day. Mackerel was nice and fatty. I like the miso sauce on the salmon. Both were cooked well. This set came with rice and unlimited miso soup which was a bit salty for me. For birthdays, the staff turn off the lights and they get rowdy as they bring over a custom dessert pudding to the birthday person. It can get a bit intimidating for guests, but I enjoy a bit of flare for celebrations like this. Staff are always attentive and super nice. Space is not crowded and I love the custom beer bottle chandelier.

Yelp
Omg this place was a blast!!! You walk in and you are greeted by everyone working there, in Japanese, of course. Service was great, drinks were very tasty, and the food was top-notch. We came here for my birthday with some friends. I had the Omakase pressed sushi, and all the ingredients were fresh and delicious. My husband had the dynamic pork tomahawk and my God the flavors were dynamite! I can not remember what our friends got, but they loved theirs too. I got to try sea urchin. Towards the end of the meal, somehow, someone mentioned to the staff or was my birthday. They turn up the music, start yelling, and bring a Macha dessert with a glowing bowl. I was laughing so hard as it was a great experience. When I come back to Canada in the future, I am absolutely coming back here!

Yelp
Great food, great service and great ambiance! Stopped by for dinner with reservation ahead. We had a variety of dishes including sushi, steaks, crab croquettes. Drinks we ordered are yuzu flavor so refreshing!! Overall the food was delicious, just one appetizer that was on the fresh sheet, tuna tatami with soft egg on it, didn't seem very fresh unfortunately. The same tataki was on Chirashi and didn't taste very good.. might need some improvement here. But the rest was really really good! Tenderloin steak was really tender and so flavorful the sauce was great too. Croquettes were extra hot as they should be. The sauce for croquettes was interestingly Thai green curry flavor. There were two birthday parties looked so fun! This place could be one of my fam members birthday spot next.

Leslie C.

Yelp
Food is delicious but over the course of dinner, at least 4 birthday celebration happened and it's always a huge production when they bring out the cake. Also the restaurant is rather loud and hard to hear what each other are saying so not sure if I'd come back again for a quality time catch up. The ebimayo is super light and delicious. The tartar is 10/10 as well. The Chirashi is just okay. The uni crab udon is delicious tho. As mentioned food is in the pricy side but great quality. It came up to be ~$50 per person.

Yelp
We came here for a birthday dinner, which is always a great time. The staff is friendly, prompt, and energetic for how hectic it can be there. Kudos to them! I suggest reserving well in advance for groups larger than 8, especially on a weekend. The food is always good, and I encourage people to try a bit of everything from each category. I especially liked the bbq and aburi dishes.

Audrey T.

Yelp
Had a lovely birthday dinner here. Appreciate the large group accommodation and lively nature. Food was delicious. Highlights included the sushi, raw scallop, curry, sizzling steak and udon.

Bea F.

Yelp
I love Raisu and Kingyo, so Suika was the last stop naturally. Came here on a weekday for lunch and did not have to wait long. Service was very friendly and attentive. I ordered the Wagyu Hamburg Steak, which was delicious and comforting. It was on the rich side, as the stew is very sweet, so maybe not an item I'd always order. But lovely nonetheless. The tuna tataki we received in the house, as one of our dishes was burnt initially and had to be remade. I love raw fish, so this was a nice treat! However, I'd say the portion is on the smaller side compared to other dishes they serve, so something to keep in mind if you're hungry! Overall, a lovely experience and I'd love to return to try other menu items.

Steven E.

Yelp
Unassuming Japanese restaurant with a lively atmosphere and the friendliest of folks. Prior to our dinner service we watched the whole staff erupt from all corners of the restaurant with a glowing bowl topped with a birthday dessert for a very young patron, lively exclaiming happy birthday. Wonderful! Enjoyed between us a sashimi green salad with sesame dressing and mosago, fried edamame with garlic (this can be skipped), sushi unagi sitting atop fresh seaweed (fabulous), and chicken thigh dashi karaagi (superb). This place is a keeper

Yelp
Bae and I were in Vancouver for a conference and thanks to Yelp we found ourselves at Suika for a little early Christmas present. What? Christmas present? How? We didn't even have Thanksgiving yet! More on this later, if you even make it that far with this review. Well not sure if you ever used Yelp before...And really there is no right or wrong way. But if you're curious, following is the sailorfoodie methodology. Which let's be honest, is not that original lol! I'm not the girlfriend in the relationship where I don't know where to eat. Where all my foodies at! Thanks to Yelp's search feature I can look for something I am craving at the time and bet 95% it's almost always Asian food. If you don't know what you're craving, I would recommend using the terms "must eat", "hot and new", "best food" to start. And for sure use the filter feature! Once you got that search function going for you, it's time to go through that result list! After you select on an establishment, one of the first thing you should do is look at the pictures. Does anything scream yum at you through your screen?! If so, then in this instance, you are definitely judging a book by its cover. Kind of like when you're on those dating apps, you keep swiping and swiping until bam, hello! No shame in that - you definitely want to see if there is anything that catches your eye before you invest all that time in reading reviews. Well in the case of Suika, there was was a beautiful picture captured a year ago by fellow yelper Aerica W., captioned: "Makunouchi Box (Christmas & New Years Special) $42" Okay but can we give a shout-out to Aerica W. for not only capturing a great photo but for her detailed information in the caption too?!? Wow! Thanks Aerica W.! Elite status well deserved! Now back to the picture. Glory damn - it was hard not to be drawn in when you have right in front of your eyes, a bento box that is composed of nine different bites that looks appealing in color and composition. My interest was definitely peaked. So knowing that this dish was a Christmas & New Years Special, I had to do a little extra digging. I was able to get to Suika's website and social media easily through Yelp and there I found that they were offering the Makunouchi bento boxes during the time we were in town! That's two green flags so far! Suika you're looking mighty fine and you're telling me you're available too?! Alright alright - now to check if there are any red flags, so back to Yelp I went. And thanks again to Yelp - I was able to filter reviews by most recent because you know we can't be reading 20 year old reviews. I was pretty impressed by the consistent four and five star reviews. In my book, Suika passed the background check! There was nothing criminal that stood out even with the couple of lower rated reviews that were sprinkled here and there within the past two years. I'm confident at this point that Suika was the one. And so off to lunch we went! We made sure to arrive right as they opened so we could get one of the limited bento boxes. We also ordered the corn karaage, tuna belly sashimi & the salmon bibimbap. The food came out so fast! And I kid you not, every single thing that we ate was phenomenal. I'm a corn lover, and the corn karaage made it to the top three of the best corny things I've ever eaten. The texture was so unique and I honestly told bae he couldn't have another piece because I wanted it all. Tuna belly of course is already in a league of its own when it comes to quality and is quite literally the definition of melt in your mouth. Fresh and buttery good. Salmon bibimbap was a lovely surprise we saw on the menu. It came out in a sizzling hot stone bowl. Our server mixed up the rice for us and you can hear the cracking of the crispy salmon skin as she mixed it up - music to our ears. Each bite felt like home and comforting. Now here comes Christmas morning - our Makunouchi bento box arrived and it felt like we got to open and eat nine different presents packed with flavor and fun combinations. For $34 we got at least two or three bites of: 1. Diced tenderloin steak with balsamic 2. Wagyu Hamburg with demi glace 3. Grilled duck 4. Rare salmon cutlet 5. Creamy snow crab croquette 6. Truffle flavored tempura egg 7. Kimchi tuna tartare with rice cracker 8. Assorted press sushi 9. Hotate ceviche with grapefruit vinaigrette By the end of the meal, our hearts and belly were full. We could not fault Suika for one thing, except for sharing with us a feeling of Christmas joy and cheer when it was only October. -Sailor out

Yelp
I came here with my wife for my birthday. First off besides having great service somehow they knew it was my birthday (we didn't tell them I swear!) and gave me dessert for free! Everything was awesome but I'll start with the highlights - the Makunouchi Bento Box. They only sell 10 of these a day so you have to get there when they open. 9 amazing little things - they are all great. My favourites - the croquette is so creamy. The sashimi and tataki are delectable. I love the kimchi crispy toast too. Only the raw salmon was too well done. The crab butter fries - wow wow wow. The flavour in the butter is just soo good. The tofu egg omelette - this is so soft and delicate. Really good. It's different from Chawanmushj but kind of reminds me of jt. I love the frozen matcha crème brûlée as well. It's not the usual circular glass container, it's a very unique presentation. Really awesome place and I'll be coming back!

Shawana L.

Yelp
Not one of my faves in Vancouver. I've been to other sushi restaurants that were better quality and less expensive. We got 2 Moscow mules, toro sashimi, yellowtail sashimi, bluefin pressed sushi, and the pork ribs and it was about $105 before tip. My favorite was the toro sashimi but I've had better quality and better portions at other sushi restaurants. The ribs were on the sweeter side and the pressed sushi lacked the seared factor and lacked flavor.

Yelp
Overall 4-4.5 stars Tried this spot with a small group on a Friday night. Excellent atmosphere and vibe. Super friendly right from the start. Menu is large with a variety of fusion and classic dishes. There is also an extensive sake and cocktail menu. Most of the dishes we tried were good to great and the prices were reasonable. Excellent spot for a date, night out with friends or a birthday!

Yelp
My fiancé and I tried a few different Japanese Izakayas during our vacation in Vancouver. Suika is my favorite because of the ample seating, efficient service, and delicious foods! This is what we ordered, from favorite to least favorite: -- Uni and Crab carbonara udon: MY FAVORITE! Excellent cook on the noodles, fantastic creamy flavors, and generous with the toppings! -- Corn Kakiage: this is a popular item from the menu and I can taste why! Crunchy yummy corn goodness. -- Tako Wasabi: so generous with the raw octopus and one of my favorites to order at an Izakaya. -- Yuzu Karaage Bowl: the fried chicken was perfectly crispy and even the rice had a slight special taste, like it was flavored sushi rice or something. -- Spot Prawn (with fried heads): really fresh! The heads could've been fried a bitttt longer for me. -- Hotate Ceviche: this was scallops from the specials menu. They came to us room temperature and the yuzu flavor didn't work for me. The atmosphere is lively, loud, and a bit chaotic with servers shouting in Japanese. I loved it. The birthday celebration is also awesome. Even the kitchen workers come out to participate in the birthday cheer! I recommend making a reservation on Open Table. We were able to make one a few hours before or weekend dinner - spots will open up so keep checking! I will be back to try one of the many different drinks and to explore more of the menu.

Yelp
We came here to celebrate my moms birthday. We reserved a table online on Open Table. It was quite convenient and we could list "birthday" as the special occasion. We got a table right away when we arrived at 6pm for dinner. It was great that we didn't have to wait and line up. We ordered quite a lot of food. Please see attached photos for reference. All of them tasted great that we had no complaints. We enjoyed the meal. The customer service was good too. Servers took care of our table and others well. They were quite efficient and polite. We were here to celebrate moms birthday, so someone turned off the lights at the restaurant, brought a dish of matcha desserts with a sparkling candle, and sang a birthday song by all the servers. It was awesome! My mom felt special about it lol she never did that before. The overall dining experience was great here. Two things I would like to point out are that the restaurant is always busy and noisy. If you are looking for a quiet restaurant. This is not for you. Also the restaurant is on the Main Street, so it's hard to find parking. We had to park at the residential area and walked to the restaurant. It was not too bad.

Carmen P.

Yelp
Rounding this up to 4 stars as service was efficient and food came out fast despite a full restaurant. Tried the aburi salmon, salmon sashimi, corn kakiage, tenderloin sizzling steak, yuzu karage bowl, uni and crab cabonara, toro-toro pork jowl, tako wasabi and tiramisu. While none of the dishes really stood out, they were tasty. All up came shy of $200 incl tax and tips for 4 for lunch. Great spot if you want Japanese with a twist and not standard sushi rolls.

Hana T.

Yelp
SOLID Japanese food! Loved all their seafood here. It was not stinky at all. Their unagi was okay but had lots of fish and rice! I liked their udon way more. I'm usually not a fan of uni but this was so creamy. Wish there was more crab and ikura though. Also their salmon aburi melted IN YOUR MOUTH. Wow and that sauce is so delicious. It was my birthday so we let them know and they played Lion King and turned off the lights and started singing. There were candles and they brought the green tea ice cream creme brulee! It was complimentary. Their service is super fun - it reminds me of an izakaya in Japan. Very loud and inviting. I think there were like 4 different birthday/anniversary celebrations that night.

Cecilia M.

Yelp
Suika has been one of my go to izakaya joints to bring friends to in the city for many years. The loud cool vibe, fresh good food, rotating specials, and great service easily makes it a city favourite. It is one of the sister restaurants by the group that owns Kingyo and Raisu. Recently had a friend's birthday party there and it seems that every table was celebrating a Birthday. The fun staff at Suika makes a loud singing Birthday song and cheer for each Birthday celebrated, which is cute. 3 friends and I decided to order a bunch of dishes and try them out together. We ordered the corn karage, bluefin otoro sashimi, chicken karage, chirachi deluxe bowl, Hamachi pressed sushi, stewed Beef tenden curry, and Truffle Gyutan Ragu Udon. All the food was fresh, delicious, and great portion to share. Everything was great and hard to pick a favourite - the truffle gyutan ragu udon had a really tender Beef tongue and was served in a great sauce. However, none of us was able to taste the truffle. Great service even with a large 15+ group. There's a reason why Suika remains a favourite after many many years.

Dennis S.

Yelp
Some of the best Japanese food I've had in a long time!! Make sure you make a reservation in advance because it gets very busy! Their carbonara udon w/egg is a must try dish if you are a pasta person. Their udon noodles are extremely tasty and perfect in texture along with the sauce and egg I can eat this everyday. We also had their wagyu which was very fairly priced and a nice cut of wagyu. The raw fish is fresh and you can't go wrong with any sushi

Paula K.

Yelp
The food was amazing!!! I love the ebi mayo, yaki udon, ribs.. all were very good, juicy and delicious. Ebi mayo was cooked perfectly and ribs were super tender. I know they change menu from time to time, and I would love to try again! Service was top-notch, the servers were very attentive. Atmosphere wise, because is a medium size place, and the tables were near to another, it was a little noisy. Overall experience were amazing!

Oliver M.

Yelp
Suika is as close to an authentic Japanese Izakaya as you can get in Vancouver! It fills up fast so make sure to book a reservation in advance on OpenTable! The parking is hard to find here so unless you are lucky enough to get a spot on the street, you may need to park a bit further in the residential areas and walk over. The food and drinks are simply amazing! The Chirashi bowl is fresh and very high quality seafood. The Makunouchi Bento is a must have (also very aesthetic for IG photos) and in addition to being tasty, contains goodies that you would find in a local Izakaya spot in the after-work drinking districts of Tokyo. Suika also serves Shochu which is difficult to find in Vancouver bars, and as authentic of an experience as you can get (be warned the drinks go down easy but will sneak up on you!). If you are missing Japan as much as I am, definitely come to Suika!

Kathy P.

Yelp
Have you tried CHIRASHI DON? Chirashi don is sashimi on top of sushi rice. It was a nice surprise that the chirashi don at Suika was presented in a traditional Japanese lacquer box with a lid on top. Eating this was like looking for treasure in every bite. The uni carbonara udon was perfectly cooked and a definite must order dish. Also another item I would add to my list is the deep fried black garlic edamame which was an explosion of flavour. On the table: Seafood bara chirashi set 23.8 Uni, ikura and crab carbonara udon 18 Black garlic edamame deep fried 6.1 Tako wasabi 6

Susan C.

Yelp
Came here to experience izakaya as suggested by the many positive Yelp reviews, and it didn't disappoint! Having eaten a big breakfast I didn't end up ordering as dishes as I'd like (says the glutton in me =T) but guess that means I have to come back again. Of the dishes I had the opportunity to eat, they were all delish! Tako wasabi - this was a textbook version, fresh octopus, pungent spicy wasabi, add some slivers of dried nori on the side for a nice counter texture and light crunch. Tokyo oxtail ramen - broth was surprisingly light, not too heavy, good slight chew on the noodles upon serving. This wasn't the most stand out ramen I've ever had but I enjoyed it. Crab meat/ikura (salmon roe) carbonara udon: creamy, rich, hits the spot on a chilly winter's day. Umami from the roe elevated this above your average creamy pasta dish. Staff was very quick and friendly and we were seated right away when we arrived at around 1:45pm on a Saturday afternoon. Restaurant was about 50% full, not sure if it was bc it was towards end of lunch service or bc it was a super cold winter day. Either way good overall service and I'd like to come back and try other items here.

Yelp
The food was really good. We liked the negitoro and the pork jowl bowl the most as they had great flavor. The salmon aburi was good, it melts in your mouth and the salmon was fresh. The 5 kinds of sashimi was so fresh. It melts in your mouth tender, rich texture and the color was vibrant. Probably one of the better sashimi we have had in a while. The negitoro yukke comes with seaweed so that you can spoon how much of the negitoro you want. Then you roll up and eat. It was rich with flavors as the chili oil and soft boil eggs goes well with the negitoro. The yuzu kara-age bowl was great. The chicken was tender and the sweet & spicy yuzu sauce complimented the chicken. I wish they would have more of the sauce on the rice. The service was great, they were attentive, came around when needed, and when we asked about the different items on the menu, they explained what they were and how big the plate it. I would recommend this place. The price is a bit higher than other places but the quality and service compensates for it.

Yelp
This place really blew my mind. I was looking for a high quality Japanese yakitori style restaurant and this was the recommendation given by the people of Reddit. Every dishes were served with extreme profession and quality. The blue fin tuna was really fatty and fresh, along with rest of the sashimi. The fried prawn in cream sauce was probably the best shrimp dish I ever had. The grilled sablefish was so soft juicy and flavourful. The salmon pressure sushi is also great Corn caragae was crispy and not oily at the same time The dishes I mentioned above are must orders

Yelp
My hubby brought me here for my birthday. Pros: upbeat, hip ambiance. We ordered the Double tonkatsu and the seafood chirashi set. Best katsu I had. Fresh, tender, and juicy with just the right crisp. The seafood chirashi was excellent. Portions were great and worth the price. They surprised me with a birthday cake and song. They dim the lights and put on loud upbeat song and the staff comes pout with the matcha green tea brûlée with type of sauce with a candle and sparkler. It was Fun! Staff was great and friendly and tended to us and genuinely made sure we were doing okay. All good vibes at the restaurant. However, they don't have parking. We were traveling from WA and did not know the area, so we called and there was only street parking. Bring your coins or have your parking app to pay.

Yelp
They had great ambiance and fun music when it's someone's birthday! The noodles were pretty good too

Yelp
This restaurant was recommended by a local friend so a group of us decided to check it out for a weekday evening dinner. There wasn't really a wait and got seated with good time. There wasn't a bad dish we had, everything was spectacular - each with it's own unique flavor. Some dishes we ordered: - Tako Wasabi - Corn Kakiage - Aburi Salmon - Real Crab Press Sushi - Kinako Tiramisu - Miso carbonara - Seafood Bara Chirashi Bowl I would definitely come back here if I'm around the area again to try out other dishes they have to offer.

Yelp
Awesome place!! The decor was really nice and inviting! Decided to come here on a Sunday for a fun family road trip. Service was awesome best of the best. They greeted us, informed us about what was new on the menu. Haven't tried the food yet but I'll update when I do. Probably AMAZING!! Edit: DELICIOUS PLEASE COME HERE AWESOME SERVICE AGAIN HOPE THIS ESTABLISHMENT CONTINUES TO BE AWESOME!! Food and presentation so neat. One of the best sushi places I've ever been to. Better than Cali even. Would come back.

Yelp
NOISY/HYPER NOT REALLY TRUE JAPANESE (all of them speak it from front of house to back of house) but they are more fusion style. NO GREEN TEA SERVED (cold water no ice is automatically brought to the table when you get seated. Napkin chopsticks and no sauce dish for wasabi. Menus .... If you've had a tiring day... and this is your first visit.... This menu will make you cringe. A few photos wouldn't kill your printer.... Nope none of the menus have pics. They are upfront though, about 2 hours max dining time. Starts from time you sit down. Which is nice and fine, they were a bit slow to take order. Took 7 mins and flagging them down to come take order Guy serving our table. Parrots, wasn't helpful beyond parroting how do you want the prawn head cooked X or Y, but when we asked for clarification he just repeated. I pointed at a picture on my phone of what I saw someone else post for the sushi platter I was ordering , and said "you mean the head for this" and he said yes...: those midget things? The head? We're eating that???? Lol okey well ask my parents, I don't plan to eat the head of that lmao. Crazy atmosphere they yell every table being seated and the kitchen says something in unison (no idea what) and they appear fully booked. Was at the front with reservations and the guy was on the phone telling them (it was 5 pm) the night was fully booked and no availability even for table of 3.... For even 8 pm.... So definitely reserve. This place would be best suited for parties or those looking to get almost rowdy.... You'd fit right in. If you were looking for a peaceful dinner with beautiful plating.... Plating you'd get... peaceful? I'm sure the neighbours put up soundproof next door lmao I've included pics. You're better off taking pics off the internet and pointing at that and say I want that where is it on the menu (so you know the price ) but everything coming off the menu you'd pretty much be ordering it as a mystery heehee. We won't be back. My parents like it more quiet. Hahaha but I'm paying so they put up with it.

Yelp
Suika is a Japanese izakaya restaurant on West Broadway offering some of the best fish in town! I love coming here to celebrate birthdays because all the staff come out to celebrate with you - great for the vibes Yuzu Tuna Tataki (12.8) Aburi Salmon Pressed Sushi (13.8) Steak Curry Yakiudon (16.8) Chicken Dashi Karaage (10.8) Aburi Hamachi Carpaccio (12.8) Yuzu Kara Karaage Bowl (13.8) Beef Bibimbap Bowl (13.8) Seafood Bara Chirashi (21) I absolutely loved the yuzu tuna tataki, yuzu karaage bowl, and the seafood bara chirashi! So fresh and delicious! Overall it was a lovely experience filled with delicious food and cozy ambience

Yelp
Service was great. Attentive, fast, friendly, what more can you ask for? Ambiance was cozy and warm. The udon was freshly and creamy. The corn kakiage was a unique dish that I haven't tried before. The sushi was good as well, but nothing to write home about. Overall a great place to hang out with friends and grab a nice bite!

Yelp
Suika is the epitome of spectactular food and top notch service to boot. I was so impressed by each dish that came to our table. They say you eat with your eyes first (and camera second), and the impeccable presentation was quite the feast for the eyes. We ordered the following: Omakase Sashimi Seaweed Salad ($15.80); Aburi Bluefin Tuna Carpaccio ($16.80); Kanimiso (Crab Butter) Fries ($13.50); Uni, Ikura & Crab Carbonara Udon ($16.80); Salmon Family Bibimbap ($14.80); Tako Wasabi ($5.20); Tokyo Ox-Tail Ramen ($15.80); Frozen Matcha Brulee ($6.80); and Kinako Tiramisu ($6.80). While everything tasted delicious, the stars for me were by far the Salad, Carpaccio, Fries, Udon, Tako, and Tiramisu. (Yes, that is essentially everything we ordered.) Both the Salad and Carpaccio were unbelievably fresh with just the right amount of acidity and flavour to compliment the sashimi yet not overpower its freshness. Likewise, the wasabi in the Tako delivered with its bright notes and subdued heat. Conversely, the Fries and Udon were on the other side of the spectrum with their rich, buttery flavours. Finally, the Tiramisu was a surprise as my default is the delectable Matcha Brulee, but this Tiramisu was so light, creamy, and unique with the addition of soybean powder. Food aside, the ambiance and service at Suika are unrivaled. If you're looking for a spot to celebrate your birthday, look no further because the staff here will literally stop what they're doing, dim the lights, bring over a lit-up platter with sparklers, and clap and cheer for you with thundersticks as music blares in the background. That night, there were at least four birthdays and we were treated to songs like "Hips Don't Lie" and "Thnks fr th Mmrs". It was quite the spectacle and so much fun to watch as a fellow diner. By now, I've been to Suika and its sister company, Kingyo, several times and each time I've left beaming at the whole experience. I'm excited to dine in again and also try the rest of the Tamaru Shoten family: Raisu and Rajio, I'm coming for you. Suika, you may be seeing me this year for my birthday...

Yelp
Fun, interesting, if not slightly overpriced and overhyped. The pressed sushi is worth a try and it's a fun atmosphere. The service is pleasant any time I've been. Definitely worth trying as one of the better spots in this Fairview corridor.

Yelp
The food here was really good! I really liked the vibe of this place too! We went with a big group of people and they were able to accommodate all of us. First of all, I really loved the drinks! They were all so good! Everything was perfectly sweet and not too sweet. I liked how it was tapas style so you can try a lot of different things! Their sushi was so good and I really liked how fresh and thick their fish was! All in all, I would recommend this spot and I would go back if I am in the area!

Yelp
Amazing food and vide. Good for people looking for fusion Japanese food. Definitely " No go" if looking for traditional sashimi. Portion is good. $40 USD/ ppl, we were full

Yelp
Solid, cheap vegan ramen but not one of the better ones in town. I know this is not a vegan-centric spot, but I saw that their online menu had a vegan mushroom ramen ($10.80 plus tax--super cheap), so I gave it a go. The ramen came out in under 10 minutes. It's a modest portion, with nice instant noodle-like noodles, mushrooms, bamboo shoots and some raw arugula sprinkled on top. The soup was oily, moderately spicy, quite salty, but without a huge amount of depth. Good for a quick, light, cheap meal, but it's far from amongst the most impressive vegan ramens in town.

Yelp
Suika ALWAYS has amazing dishes, service and presentation - I've never been dissapointed. I recently went back and tried some new items. Makunouchi Box (Christmas & New Years Special) $42: This beautiful 9-grid box came with otoro steak, crab mousse, steamed abalone, crabcream fry, real crab chirashi, seafood bara chirashi, wagyu chirashi, chicken wings, and truffle demiglace hamburg. I can't stop gushing about the OTORO STEAK!! - it is so incredibly creamy and literally melts in your mouth. The crabcream fry was also a favourite (deep fried balls of crab mixed in a sort of creamy cheese-sort of mixture). Every bite in the box was unique and was very fun to try and share. Bluefin Toro Belly Sashimi ($21+): Highly recommend this as well. It is extremely fresh and also melts (but not as amazing as the otoro). Frozen Matcha Brulee ($6+): best dessert here, paired with a light red bean sauce and whipped cream on the side. I'd recommend getting 1 per guest, as you won't want to share this! It's definitely a great way to end off the meal, and isn't heavy at all. The caramelized crunchy brulee top is amazing. Fizzy Grapefruit Cocktail ($9+): very refreshing drink with Japanese sake w/ citrus liquor (2oz). Beef Stamina Bowl ($18+): very well marinated beef short ribs, that had a very unique and delicious housemade yuzu-kalbi sauce. I'll never say no to a leaky egg, and there is kimchi on the side. It was a tad bit salty, and I had a lot of rice left over.

Yelp
The sashimi is very fresh. The blue fin tuna otoro just melts in the mouth. The sizzling steak is so flavorful and can be grilled by the customer on the hot stone so everybody just can enjoy the steak in their own way. The soup is super nice but a little bit salty after the first bowl. Everything is nice and the birthday/anniversary celebration is quite crazy. :) totally passions staff. Thanks a lot.

Yelp
I came here for lunch and ordered the Uni and Crab Carbonara Udon. I've never had non-soupy udon before so this was a brand new experience for me. I have to say I was amazed. I loved everything from the sauce to the texture of the udon. I would happily order this again!

Yelp
I was visiting Vancouver and dined here on a friend's recommendation with my family for my birthday. We ordered the vegan ramen, oxtail ramen, and uni pasta as well as some the edamame and karaage. Everything was great, and everyone agreed that the vegan ramen was the best, even the one who thinks any meal is incomplete without meat. Our server was super sweet and attentive. The logo is a cute watermelon shape, which apparently is what Suika means in Japanese. To avoid a wait, I recommend making a reservation.

Yelp
Day 12 of posting Yelp Reviews that rhyme Suika, a restaurant, in Vancouver's land Shrimp and sashimi, not worth the grand Overpriced, so little for forty bucks You'll leave feeling like you've been robbed of your luck The uni pasta, was okay at best But small portions, will leave you impressed The restaurant, too crowded and loud If you want peace and quiet, this place is not proud The music's blasting, when it's someone's birthday If you're looking for a calm place, this one's not the way It's a party atmosphere, and not for everyone You'll be better off, finding a new place to have some fun 1 star for Suika, it's a shame You'll have a better time, if you change the name So if you're looking for a restaurant, in Vancouver's city Suika, is not the place, it's not pretty.

Yelp
Ambiance: 4.5/5 Food: 5/5 Service: 4/5 Overall: 5/5 My friend and I were craving some ramen on a Wednesday night and came across this spot on Yelp and had to try it out! We gave them a call and they were able to reserve us the last table available so I definitely recommend booking ahead of time If you can since it was quite busy on a weekday night! Being vegetarian, I had taken a peek at the menu before we went since sometimes it's hard to find vegetarian-friendly ramen but was glad to find that they had a ramen and a few other options as well. Upon scanning the QR code at the restaurant I noticed that there were no veg options so I asked the waitress and she noted that they did have some veg options but they weren't on the online menu - so keep this in mind in case you're looking for them! I decided to go with the mushroom ramen and my friend got the oxtail ramen - we both also got a boiled egg on the side. The restaurant is quite roomy with lots of seating and a classic decor as well - no complaints here! The food came relatively quickly and was delicious! Veggie ramen can sometimes taste a little bland but this both was delicious and the mushrooms were great too! My friend enjoyed his dish as well but we both agreed we would pass on the eggs next time - we were told they would be boiled but they ended up being very watery poached eggs qnd not your classic ramen egg. As for service, it was super friendly and quick but as the night went on you could definitely see the staff numbers drop and become less attentive, but nothing major. Overall I'd definitely come back for this veg ramen and to try other veg dishes too!

Yelp
Suika is a very busy and loud restaurant. Last night the staff enthusiastically acknowledged at least 5 birthday celebrations so this is a very popular place. Food is interesting, not traditional but more of their take on traditional with a few twists. Not a bad thing just different. We sat at a high bar table at the drink bar with the kitchen to our back. A good place to sit as we were out of the din where it can be very noisy. Service was unbelievably fast and prices were more than fair. I still prefer traditional sushi and sashimi however this was a good change of pace. Recommended but get a reservation.

Yelp
This was my first stop in my recent family trip to the west coast. I had high expectations of this place since I've been to Kingyo in Toronto before, and was informed that they're under the same family. Made reservations for here and didn't regret it; you weren't getting in if you didn't reserve a table. We ordered a few items including the roast beef salad, wagyu beef cutlet, two pressed sushi, and the Tokyo ox tail ramen. Beef and vinaigrette was excellent for the salad. The snow crab pressed sushi was an interesting concept but didn't feel like it meshed well, but the blue fin pressed sushi yes please I want more of that! The wagyu beef cutlet was also excellent, and you can feel the wagyu texture quite well. My dad ended up having most of the ox tail ramen, and he gave a positive feedback to it. The service, admittedly, was a bit slow, but they looked short staffed that night. We tried our best not to rush them since we know given current times, food service workers are doing their best. Will recommend to others for sure!
