Suisse Haus Food & Spirits

Google
We were just looking for something to do and decided to back to Suisse Haus in Monroe. We had been there about a year ago and it was just as good this time as last time. I had the coconut shrimp and it was delicious. My wife had the Patty Melt and she loved it too. The service was fast and the staff attentive and friendly. The prices were reasonable.

Google
Really nice waitress and environment. My friend took us out, we got philly cheese steak hoagies. Really good sandwich. The bread was soft, the meat was moist, and the toppings were excellent. I wasn't to sure about the red sauce at first, but it went together really well. 5/5

I am from out of town and staying in the area. I came here on a Monday evening round 7:00 p.m. and got seated within a few minutes. My drink was brought out within a couple minutes and then my food was brought out in another 7 or 8 minutes. The waitress was extremely friendly, attentive, and responsive. I had the grilled chicken sandwich and cheese curds and they were both very good.

Google
The place wasn't much to look at, in fact we almost walked out. But didn't. The waitress was nice enough, but was too busy (for not a full house) and didn't have any time to chit chat a little or entertain our questions much. But that wasn't a big deal. She kind of disappeared at the end and we had to flag down another waitress for our bill. The food was amazing!! We got the award winning red white and blueberry burger and the fresh fried cheese curds. Cheese and beef were local. SO flavorful! We didn't regret stopping there! It was our first time in Monroe

Google
We (my sister and I) stopped here on 9/9/25 and had one of the best meals imaginable! The burger & fries were excellent and the turkey wrap was awesome and huge! On top of that, our waitress was one of the nicest, outgoing people we had ever met. She really went above and beyond. I'd recommend the Suisse Haus to anyone and everyone I know!

Google
Stopped while going through Monroe for work. Service was okay not super helpful or friendly. Ordered a double cheese burger which is just the burger no side and half an order of cheese curds. Burger was okay not $12 worth and the half order of curds was $7 for 7 curds. Ended up getting out of there for just under $28 after tip dang…. Just for lunch! Won’t stop next time I’m through.

Google
“Suisse Haus” because nothing says Switzerland like overcooked meat and no seasonings 🤷🏼‍♀️ Rude service, paid way too much for delivery that was 1.2 miles away. Even tipped 25%! Food was not as good as it could be. Very petty workers, they were way too mad over missing items WE PAID FOR. Unless the math ain’t mathing???

Google
We visited this place since my fiancée had not been here since she was younger. Food and service was great had their competition burger, the smoke has burger, fries and some pickle fries.

Brenda S.

Yelp
I had deep fried mushrooms- they were cold inside. My husband always had the ham and cheese sandwich and he is never disappointed. I was surprised and disappointed. It's always good there. Chalk it up as a one off. Highly recommend otherwise.

Yelp
If you like playing slots while sitting at a dirty table this place is for you. Rude and slow service combined with high prices and TVs blasting Fox News. Average bar food, at best, that can be found just about anywhere.

Annette W.

Yelp
I called to get a carry out pizza. When the lady answered the phone, the first thing out of her mouth was "it's going to be 45 minutes. Very sharp and rude. I was looking at their online menu to order a pizza. I said I would like green and black olives. The lady very rudely said the order came with green and black olives. I said I was looking online and it did not show both but thank you. Once again, she barked at me and said it was going to be 45 minutes. I told her that was fine. When I got there to pick up the pizza, the bartender came out with a weird look on her face. She asked me if I asked for a menu and I told her no. She made a face, knowing that the person that took my order was being a little snot as she got a menu and stapled it all over the cover of the pizza box. I guess that was her way to show me, that she was right in telling me that their menu showed both olives. The thing is, I specifically said it was the online menu that was wrong. She did not need to be snotty on the phone or to staple a takeout menu all over the top of the box. Pizza itself was OK, but I always have to take it home and throw it in the oven.

Yelp
Great food, service was good. Very authentic. Very small and rustic, but plenty of seating

Yelp
Food and service were top notch!! The cheese curds are fresh and delicious! We had their homemade pizza...bacon cheeseburger and Mac & cheese. Plenty of topping and a homemade crust that was crisp and flavorful, but not cracker thin! Highly recommended!!!

Yelp
After not getting into the first choice Tex mex place on the square and finding that the bars didn't serve food we wound up here, it's a block off the square by the way. When you walk in the place screens Wi bar and grill and obviously the place to go since you can actually get in with mostly no wait it seemed, I could see on a Friday night there could be a wait but people just kept coming in and filling up the place. As you walk in you are slapped in the face with the bar and taps on the right with all the wood from the ceiling to walls everywhere like some massive tree threw up all over the place. There is a small open grill at the end of the bar with people feverishly working it. On the left is the dining area which is not that big and wood everywhere again filled tables and chairs. This place doesn't miss represent what it is with the menu, it's bar food with pizza, salads, wraps, burgers, sandwiches and appetizers. This was all we had time for and still make the movie so it will have to do. The menu states it's the second oldest building in town and around for 132 years. The menu also states that the 1/3 lb burgers are fresh ground chuck so I'm down for one. We started with tha hodgepodge which was frys, rings, curds, mushrooms and cauliflower breaded and fried. This was nothing special and just average frozen bar food. I had the bacon cheeseburger and I'm told that rare is possible so let's see how this goes. There is a relish tray that comes to the table with thin sliced pickles, relish and sliced raw onion. When the burger hit the table it looked like rare, it has a look. It's on a toasted soft bun and not one of the dense crappy kinds, the bacon was skimpy because it looked like two cut 3 1/2 inch slices were snipped off the strip. The burger was cooked rare, thank you but there was no big flavor to it. The patty was nice but not seasoned and no grilled flavor, probably just a flat top grill job. The bacon didn't have any complementary smokey flavor so even though it was fresh it was seriously on the boring side because I didn't use any ketchup, mustard etc because I wanted to sample the true flavors. Get one of the special burgers for flavor I would suggest because meat and bacon was pretty average even if fresh. This was average bar food and nothing horrible but definitely not a destination restaurant by any means nor was the burger a destination burger, well maybe for Monroe and that's just based on my travels. I would try the pizza next time if I found my self there again.

Yelp
TALK ABOUT DUMB LUCK! This is the second time in a year that we wanted to eat at Baumgartner's Cheese Store & Tavern and it was closed. Last summer it was closed on Monday. This year the power was out. So as we did last summer we returned to Suisse Haus Food and Spirits. I'm from Chicago so I don't get here often and I know kinda' know what I want. Like last year I wanted a braunschweiger sandwich. We had burgers outside then.My friends who are local like Limburger Cheese Sandwiches and not only did they have that, they also served Liver Sausage Sandwich with Cheese, which is braunschweiger. This fantastic place which has an amazing history to Swiss immigrants also served our sandwiches on marble rye. When our wonderful and attentive (and easy on the eyes) waitress Elle, who was also very busy but we couldn't tell, brought our food you should have seen our eyes. the cheese was cut THICK as was my braunschweiger. I also had fried pickles which I was unable to finish because the sandwich was so damned huge and at $5.75 was an unreal deal. I'll be back again and again and...well you get it. My new go to in Green County WI. Thank you cooks and thank you Elle. Hope to see you all during Cheese Days.

Yelp
Excellent food and service. I typically have a burger while my wife has the ham and swiss. Typical ambiance you would expect from a traditional Wisconsin bar, nice and comfortable. Prices on par with other local establishments, I recommend the Suisse Haus for a good burger and beer.

Yelp
A nice little bar and grill in a nice little town. It was the first place the employees at Minhas suggested, so we strolled the single block down 12th and took a seat at the bar. Suisse Haus, much like many of the businesses in the area, looks like an adorable Swiss ski chalet. Inside, it's not as fancy. There's a huge bar when you enter and the back wall is covered with booze bottles and candies for sale. The rest of the dining areas appeared to have moveable tables and were decorated with beer signage. The patio area, however, looks as though it would be extremely welcoming when the weather is nicer. My friend and I both ordered the Corned Beef Reuben Sandwich. She went with a side of Fries and I got the Fried Cheese Curds. Everything is a la carte. Neither side really did it for me. I'd skip adding them on next time or maybe just go for a half order of the Fries. The Corned Beef, on the other hand, great! That recommendation did not disappoint. I rounded up slightly on the tip, so it came to $20 for the Reuben, Curds, and a bottle of Angry Orchard Crisp Apple Cider. You can easily get away with spending even less if you take advantage of their draught selection.

Yelp
So my husband had the bacon jammer sandwich from the burger contest which was flipping amazing. The smokiness of the peppered bacon jam with the slight heat of the jalapeno strips was divine. The burger was fat, juicy, and cooked perfectly. I, however, got the kentucky bourbon chicken sandwich. Do NOT get the chicken. I dont even know how to explain the weird, firm, rubbery texture but it didnt even taste like something edible. The sauce and cheese were fine so the sandwich would've been good had it not been for the messed up chicken texture. Not sure if it was like frozen & 100 years old and then microwaved or what but it was bad. So 5* on the burger but 1* on the chicken. I must just make bad choices because ive had other things here with mixed results as well. Guess next time ill stick with the burger

Yelp
3-stars for Suisse Haus. Within my mind, that translates to: "it's an okay place, but I don't need to return". The highlight of our meal was my daughter's grilled cheese sandwich. Everything else was lackluster.

Ed G.

Yelp
Very rude waitresses. Took over an hour to get our food.( chicken strips and fish). Didn't get our order right. Waitress argued with us. People who sat down after us got their food ahead of us. The owner didn't seem to care at all and felt this was normal. Would not recommend here with all of the other places to eat in Monroe . If only I could give them zero stars because they do not deserve 1 for this visit.

Sarah J.

Yelp
Not good, just disappointing. They should get someone to cook who cares. This review had been a long time coming. Multiple bad experiences. Done giving the benefit of the doubt. Wanting to support local business, but you'd have better luck at Culver's. The servers were kind.

Yelp
Monroe, WI is a badass, underrated little town in the southwest part of Wisconsin. My travelling colleagues & I happened upon it after our pilgrimage to the New Glarus brewery. Seeing how we were given free beer vouchers from New Glarus for a number of local restaurants/bars for a pint of Spotted Cow, we randomly picked Suisse Haus, since it was on our way back to Chicago. Bet you can't find a place that epitomizes Wisconsin more finely than this establishment. Old-school, woodsy bar, every Wisconsin beer you could possibly want on tap or in a bottle, friendly service, reasonable prices, football on all tvs, and huge portions of greasy food! The free beer, coupled with my favorite little Rhinelander beer bottles for a $, made this a great Wisconsin drinking experience as I was not the DD! Next time we're at New Glarus, we will surely be back for our free pint, more beer, delicious burgers, curds, & fries, and most likely the beer tour across the street that we didn't have time for!

Yelp
Bacon cheeseburger dry and flavorless. Liver sausage sandwich and service was great.

G B.

Yelp
I ordered a chicken wrap & every piece of chicken was BURNT. Not from the charcoal grill - just straight up burnt. My boyfriend got a chicken sandwhich which was also burnt. If I could give 0 stars I would. This place has gone waaaay downhill. Won't be wasting my money here again.

T G.

Yelp
Burger was awesome, great service and cold beer. Highly recommend and will definitely cone back when in town.

Yelp
Suisse Haus is cute on the inside. Old and swiss feeling. Food is alright. The burgers are good, but I've been served brown salad before, too. Pizza is pricey but good. Service is rough. I was here on Cheese days 2012, I know they were busy (understatement), but the waitress walked by about 8 times in a little over 10 minutes and didn't even acknowledge our presence or give menus. We ended up leaving, and we are pretty patient folks. During our visit last week, our waitress didn't smile once. Nuts! I would recommend this restaurant, even though nothing is great, it's still one of the better restaurants in Monroe. If you are visiting, you should come here, it's an experience.

Marcia O.

Yelp
Hands down great food and service. Jalapeño poppers have some bite, my turkey sandwich as well as my husbands Reuben were awesome! Great staff and great selection of beer!

Brad W.

Yelp
We had an incredibly good meal. Had the bacon jamer hamburger and tried the macaroni and cheese pizza it was was outstanding. Look forward to our next visit and try more new things on the menu.
google avatar

Kristina S.

Yelp
Food is definitely worth trying this place. we were not disappointed in this small town establishment
google avatar

Meghan R.

Yelp
Good food, but it's nothing fancy...Pizza is great. My only thing is that they are overpriced. For a family of 4, plan on paying close to $45. They don't have meal deals for example you pay $5 for chicken strips and then you pay an additional $4 for French fries.

Michelle D.

Yelp
I liked their corn beef sandwiches. Normally wonderful service. Today I called to order a corn beef sandwich. I always ask for meat only cheese on the side. Tonight I was charged 18 dollars for a sandwich with sourcrout. Omg I did have one young lady I spoke to said I was over charged. Then the delivery lady came to my door wanting to be confrontational. She left and I looked at my sandwich. Full of sour crout, I became angry! I called the restaurant, and again the same person was rude all over again. Then I asked to speak with supervisor and got hung up on! I will never go back or order from this restaurant. Extremely bad customer service!!!

Yelp
Great burgers! Good fish on fridays! Always have great service. Sitting outside in the summer is also nice. Clean and taken care of. It is one of those places that has history. But that is what makes it a great atmosphere.

Yelp
We have absolutely fallen in love with Monroe, Wisconsin. Quaint, clean and you can't beat Wiscinsin's hospitality. Kindest people on the face of the earth. Had a blast here. Heidi was the most amazing waitress! Attentive, funny and HAPPY we were there! Don't eat fish but everyone said it was awesome. Had a GREAT brat reuben. 2nd oldest building in Monroe...slightly tipped...lol, beyond charming.
google avatar

Justin B.

Yelp
Amazing place! Looks a little divey on the outside but food was absolutely amazing, has great prices will definitely return here. If your visiting the area you must stop in, and if you love fries with cheese the cheese is amazing and the burgers are perfectly cooked.
google avatar

David M.

Yelp
8/9/13 Much of downtown Monroe appears to shut down about 9pm even on a Friday night. There were a few options available for a late dinner and this seemed to be one of the better ones, but it's not. The menu didn't indicate my chicken would be breaded and deep fried for my wrap. I thought it'd be a sliced chicken breast prepared on their flat grill. My wife's steak sandwich was sent back. She said it was fatty. It was replaced by an individual veggie pizza. All the veggies came from a can. We won't be back. :-(
google avatar

Cortney S.

Yelp
Absolutely awesome food and service to go with it! Prices are awesome, portions are great too! Kids menu is enough for an adult as well! My favorite is broccoli poppers!!
google avatar

Dav C.

Yelp
We were in our hotel and we wanted something to eat. We ordered from here. The ribeye sandwich was spectacular. The coleslaw was good. We received the order in a short time too. Looking forward to going to the restaurant next time we are in Monroe.
google avatar

Eddie F.

Yelp
The atmosphere and food was delicious for all my senses. I only wish our server also did her job between eating and texting. I had to get my own refills, silverware, and watch her ignore her tables while she ate with her back to us all and ATE. I have to say the sweet bartender totally saved my night. She was so nice and helpful. I left her the tip.
google avatar

Andrea D.

Yelp
On a recent trip my husband and I went here twice (a real rarity) once for a late supper after a show at the Monroe Performing Arts Center and once for an early lunch. We enjoyed a reuben, Margurita pizza, the Suisse House special pizza and New Glarus beers. They were all top notch. Service was good. It was some of the best pizza I've had in a bar and grill setting, probably because of the use of local cheese
google avatar

Tony A.

Yelp
We stopped by at the Suisse House during a trip to Monroe. We had a good lunch for the most part. We were first happy to see such a unique restaurant but to our surprise inside it was just a simple rustic american diner-esque place. We weren't disappointed though. Their cheese curds are very good and their pizza is even better. The staff is friendly as well. This is a very nice place to stop in for a good low priced lunch.
google avatar

D N.

Yelp
The food at Suisse House is pretty good. Love the patty melt and the homemade pickles. Pizza is pretty good. It is better to order carry out or delivery because on several occasions when we have eaten in, the service has been slow and inconsistent.
google avatar

Rod M.

Yelp
Stumbled in after hanging in the back woods with some hunting buddies. Has a friendly feel and the service was very good. As fan of Friday fish fries I was impressed. Beer batter cod, well seasoned fries, bread and coleslaw. Cod was fried to a nice golden brown and was of good quality. Not mency at all. A bit pricey for 5 pieces, but you pay for quality. Nice tall glass of fresh(as the New Glarius brewery is just down road), ice cold Spotted Cow for the washed and a good meal was completed.
google avatar

David G.

Yelp
Good food and friendly service! I tried a hamburger it was fresh and flavorfull! Frenchfries were hot and fresh! Ended up having a desert cheesecake with berries..... good stuff! They also offer a full bar and a large selection of food and lots of fried bar stuff. Family frendly or bring a large group for a great time!
google avatar

Kirsten R.

Yelp
I love this place! Every time I come home to Wisconsin it's a must visit place. The food is good and reasonable, the service is good. Great bar food. My last visit their air conditioning was very loud and made conversation difficult, but it is a bar. Yummmmmmm

Stuart M.

Yelp
Stopped in on a Saturday night. The place was busy but there were still several tables open. The waitress arrived quickly and was pleasant. That is the only positive thing about our dining experience. The pizza took one hour to get to the table. The tomato sauce(what very little we could find) tasted somewhat like a chili sauce. I mentioned these issues to the cashier and her response was "I'm sorry". Wow, that's a cheap cop out.
google avatar

Carrie C.

Yelp
Food is decent bar food. Service was great and the bathrooms were incredibly clean. This is important to me right now because I just got done camping at "rustic" new glarus woods. Five stars just for the bathrooms.
google avatar

Adam Z.

Yelp
Not very clean and a weird building. Food was pretty good though. Nothing special overall.

Linda B.

Yelp
I ordered the pulled pork sandwich. It was the worst one I've ever had! Had a strong freezer burn taste. Stick to the hamburgers which they claim are prepared fresh every day.

Jake S.

Yelp
Meh...bowling alley food. Service was long considering there was only four groups. Ordered mac & cheese for the kiddos and they brought out boxed mac & cheese I could have made at home, for less. Side of oranges were canned.

Mackenzie M.

Yelp
They try to charge you more for drinks than what you order. This has happened time and time again, so make sure to remember what you order as they try to stiff you. The place smells like urine in the summer, not sure what that is all about. Pricey for what you get. Won't go back.

Tom L.

Yelp
Wife and I had the 2 pc fish fry and baked potato. Kids had a burgers and spicy chicken sandwich. The fish was crispy. We sat outside on their patio. Service was fantastic. Try it if you are in Monroe. One of many good places to eat in Monroe.

John D.

Yelp
A Swiss-inspired nothing-fancy bar and grill that's a favorite of locals. Tasty sandwiches, soups and homemade pizzas. Historical Monroe building.
