We went for brunch over the weekend. We did not have to wait for too long. The place is really nice and cozy. The service was great. Everything we ordered was very good. Their options are limited but they change the menu every now and then. My only comment is that the portions are small. Not gourmet-restaurant small but smaller than I expected based on price and other Italian restaurants I have been to.

I loved the concept! If you’re a book lover and enjoy Italian food, this place is a must. My husband and I went there for dinner and had a great experience. The dishes were delicious!

As an Italian expat in NYC (from Rome), this place really feels like home. First and foremost, the new Chef revolutionized their menu, and the dishes are not only authentic, but also delicious and with a touch of culinary art in both the presentation and play of Italian taste. I definitely recommend the parmigiana di melanzane - the best I had so far (and I am from Rome). I also highly recommend the Vitel Tonne (photo attached) - it's absolutely stunning! Their selection of Italian wines is also amazing. The atmosphere is beautiful, and their mixed-bookstore concept is innovative - watch out for their book presentation events! I went to several, and met many beautiful humans. Nota per gli Italiani/italiane a NYC: passateci, vale la pena. Lo Chef e' pazzesco, e il concetto di per se e' fantastico.

Google
Cute concept and nice interiors, but falls short in a few aspects. Food was mediocre, and the dinner menu was a bit pricey for what it is. The gnocchi was basic & passable, though portion size was small, and you could easily find far better gnocchi probably within a 10 minute walk radius. The tiramisu was just ok, a little lacking in flavours, and a little small considering the price. The server I had was fairly listless and didn't quite fit the vibe the place was going for. The interiors are nice with the book themed decor, pretty cozy in the evening, but considering the competition and no lack of well-designed Italian bistros in nyc, there are better options in the city that have better food and welcoming service. Wouldn't necessarily recommend going out of your way for this one.

Google
A unique place that mixes a bookstore and a restaurant. The food was excellent but I wanted things a bit more seasoned. The service was great. And the place has this chill Italian vibe that I loved.

Google
The concept is cute, but unfortunately there really only were Italian children books so I could only browse other cute items and cards 😅 The food items were quite pricey, but we thought they tasted alright (my pasta was too salty…) and service was not great (felt like they wanted us out even though there were empty tables still), so probably will not return.

Google
The food was stellar. The brussel sprouts and lemon pasta were the perfect mid day fill me up. The service was a let down - slow and inattentive.

Better Food Better Mood

Google
It’s alright, gnocchi and pasta was fine but the tiramisu was so tiny it didnt even fill the cup and frankly, it wasn’t fresh either (I wonder if it’s bought from a store deli or something and then they stuff it in the freezer for a while). For the price you’re paying, you’re better off going to an actual Italian restaurant. The book + cafe is a neat idea though, but it’s much prettier in the pictures and reels than in person. But if you’re looking for the events I think they hold those book events downstairs/the basement area.

Yelp
Unassuming and quaint find in the west village. Sallaluna offers a fresh cuisine within a bookstore. With warming temps, this will ultimately be a popular destination given its open-to-air dining experience. Ordered the fried rice croquettes, gnocchi and orecchiette. Orecchiette was my favorite dish- very light and fresh sauce. The gnocchi alla Sorrentina also good, but was a bit too cheesy for my liking. Courteous service but often very slow. Very cute bookstore downstairs, would definitely check it out!

Yelp
Had a lunch reservation on the weekend and were seated on entry. The service was friendly though a touch slow. Was hoping to get another drink order around the middle but was unfortunately unable to get one in. We ordered three types of pasta which were all good. Portions weren't too big but I did leave generally satisfied. We also ordered a salad which was refreshing. The best part of this place is the ambiance. It's a cute place that's part restaurant, part bookstore. Lots of childhood books bringing back some old memories as I enjoyed my lunch. Recommended giving the place a try.

Yelp
Super cute place in West Village for a date or a brunch. Apparently its a Venetian cafe imported into NYC Food: 4.5/5- i think this is more closer to what we might get in Italy. It tastes like home-made pasta and the portion is moderate- not like typical American portion Ambiance: 5/5 i personally love books so i love how they were able to make a book shop into a cafe / wine bar. Its a good spot to come by yourself, enjoy their children's books and the overall ambiance. Super cute and feels cozy Service: 4/5 nothing spectacular but overall decent. This place is "instagrammable" so recommend it for girls who like to brunch at cute places!

Yelp
Sullaluna is a charming bookshop bistro lined with books, making it the perfect spot to relax or hangout with a bite to eat. Their menu is mainly vegetarian and vegan, and the presentation is also super pretty. The Panna Cotta and Chocolate Soufflé JUST launched and they're super delicious. Lastly the staff is super kind and gave helpful recommendations. What I tried: Non-Alcoholic Mimosa ($14) - Orangey and refreshing but kinda expensive. Frittata de Patate ($17) - The egg isn't too strong, with soft potatoes and perfectly crispy toast topped with a delicious tomato spread. Zucca al Forno ($22) - Baked pumpkin, goat cheese, pomegranate seeds, and walnuts. Such a perfect balance of soft and crunchy! Cavolo Nero Salad ($17) - Loved the unique broccoli presentation! Panna Cotta ($12) - Thick and creamy, topped with strawberry jam. Chocolate Soufflé ($12) - A dreamy lava cake paired with vanilla ice cream.

Yelp
The most adorable Italian bistro-bookshop combo! I would return for the ambiance alone. I love the soft lighting with the books-- the glow adds such a warmth and coziness. If you come you absolutely must venture downstairs to see the entire store. As for food, we ordered the gnocchi alla sorrentina and pastiera napoletana (sweet ricotta pie) for dessert. The gnocchi was good, I liked the sauce a lot and it was very cheesy. A tad on the mushy side for my taste, and I wish there was more basil. The pie was tasty. The orange flavor was quite strong. I'm not partial to citrusy desserts; if I had known this I would have ordered something else. It still enjoyed it though. I like how the crust reminded me of pound cake. Overall, I would return. I would love to try their cacio e pepe and their tiramisu. I'm dissapointed they took their pesto off the menu though. I came with a friend around 12:15 on Saturday and we were able to get a table immediately, though had we come 20 minutes later we probably would have had to wait. Service was good, our food came out in ~15 minutes.

Yelp
Sullaluna is a cute brunch spot with a cozy aesthetic and lots of seating. It's in such a good area in the city too, with many other shops, desserts, and cafes nearby. The menu is simple and the food is good but not mind-blowing. However, it's still worth the visit, especially since it has a unique concept of being a bookstore and cafe/restaurant.

Yelp
Cute ambiance and interior decor! My salmon bagel was rather small, and you only get half a bagel for $18, but at least the flavors were vibrant and popped.

Yelp
Sullaluna is my new favorite happy hour spot in the village! It's so cozy and the $9 aperol spritz for happy hour is one of the best I've ever had! The ambiance is amazing and I love how you are free to wander around the store(be sure to check out the collection of books in the basement as well!) and grab any book from their shelves(the Italian children's books are so cute!) to bring back to your table while waiting for your drinks to arrive. The arancini is also delicious, I'll definitely have to come back for brunch sometime! I also love how they let you sign the guestbook with colored pencils :)

Yelp
The cutest Hot and New place I've been to in a minute. Part Italian cafe, part book store ; you can't help but love this charming spot. Only opened a month so they're still getting use to the swing of things but I'm thinking they will be just fine. I came in to a packed house and the food looked incredible. My Bellini and the kindness of the staff started the day off just right.

Yelp
this place was an absolute gem in the heart of the west village and is a bookshop/bistro/bar all in one. i loved the aperol spritz i got and the bread and pasta were delicious as well. great spot for a date or to catch up with a friend and it's so warm and inviting!! it is a tad pricey but as expected in new york city.

Yelp
Adorable spot with light fare, wine, and cute books! They have a few tables outside and a bar and interior tables as well. Note there is not a ton of room to move around and browse the books. Service was a bit slow, but to be expected with the recent opening. Will be back to try the arancini and affogato!

Yelp
Absolutely ADORE this new cafe!! So cute and cozy - this is the perfect spot to read a book or get work done with some coffee/tea and light bites on the side. The cafe doubles as a bookstore with children's and illustrated books beautifully displayed on shelves and tables throughout the space. The service was great, and the staff was very attentive and kind. I ordered a matcha latte, an espresso, and a cornetto. The matcha latte was pretty standard and not as rich/flavorful as I would've liked, but this is likely not the type of place to go to for a matcha latte anyways. I did enjoy the espresso and the cornetto, which was delightfully crispy and flaky on the outside and soft on the inside with pistachio filling. The powdered sugar was a nice touch as well. They do also have entrees, appetizers, and alcoholic beverages, and I definitely want to come back again to give those a try too!

Yelp
This is such a cute shop, as they have a breakfast and lunch menu all within a children's bookstore. It was all so pretty and i just really enjoyed the environment (wifi available too, so people were working there during the day). The food was solid but nothing wowing; The eggplant focaccia was a good bite and I enjoyed my coffee. I wish they offered a stronger pastry menu throughout the day as I think it'd be nice to get these bites in the afternoon as well. All below $20 so pretty affordable too, would come back!

Yelp
Absolutely delicious. Quaint, authentic Italian, and you can taste it. They also only offer Italian soda (no Diet Coke here). Pasta is so fresh, pesto is delicioso. People say it's a bookshop, but it's not really, they just use books as decor (super cute!)

Yelp
This was an Instagram spot that my friend I was eyeing and we snagged a reservation this past weekend for a lovely brunch! The matcha lattes DO NOT come sweetened, but they give/have sweeteners for you to adjust the flavor. I am a bit of a matcha snob -- and I thought their matcha lacked flavor. For food, we ordered pesto pasta and bruschetta. I LOVED the Bruschetta. The lemon zest on top was a nice touch. For the pesto, it is very true to its flavor, but it wasn't mind-blowing or anything. Overall, I felt the food was okay, but the excellent service and the amazing staff make up for it all (hence the 5 star)!!! The staff was very accommodating and extremely sweet. PLUS, they have the cutest plates/cutlery and the whole place is beautifully decorated through and through. I feel that this is a place you would come for coffee/light snacks rather than a full meal.

Yelp
This is a wonderful new Italian spot along Carmine! And by Italian, I mean Italian. This is an offshoot of the flagship in Venice, and the food and (most of the) staff is Italian. The food was delicious and the portions were big without being enormous. My friend and I shared the gnocchi, the eggplant parm (made the true, Italian way -- read: no mozzarella!) and the cheese and tomato appetizer. The space was equally inviting, and there's a selection of Italian and English books for sale. When we arrived there were a handful of people; by the time we left, the place was full. A shout to the wonderful staff, which was warm and gracious and didn't hang over us or pressure us to leave. Grazie assai!

Yelp
Had a lovely afternoon here. The ambiance was great - lots of people reading and sipping wine, perfect for a slow Sunday afternoon. We had the caprese focaccia, it was extremely fresh, would eat again!

Sam G.

Yelp
The perfect cafe and my new favorite place in WV. The interior design is thoughtful, they have Italian and English books through out. The food and service was excellent, lots of people working and drinking coffee. The whole experience felt too good to be true. Grazie Mille Sullaluna!

Yelp
Amazing food. You feel like your right in Italy. 100% will be coming again for the amazing cacio e pepe and the gnocchi. The atmosphere was very calm and beautifully decorated. Next time I'll check out the books too!

Yelp
Very cute spot with an airy ambiance and indoor outdoor seating. The menu is pretty simple and the dishes were really fresh thought the portions are on the smaller side. We get a tomato sauce gnocchi and the pesto pasta along with the arancini. We also picked up a cute children's book on our way out!

Yelp
Lovely place owned by Italians with authentic Italian food ( like in Italy). They have a great selection of books in Italian and English ( lots of great children books) , the place has style and the staff is very nice. And the coffee is very good. Finally. I will be back to buy book and have some wine.

Yelp
Been wanting to try this place for a while as it's right down the street, but was very disappointed. We had high hopes for a restaurant coming from Italy. Me and the group I came with agreed this wasn't a standout meal. We ordered the orecchiette and were severed wet spinach pasta. We had to add Parmesan to make it taste better. Will not be returning.

Cinzia C.

Yelp
What a great place! Very welcoming and warm atmosphere, excellent food and drinks, very professional and friendly staff. We all loved our food: delicious! The added bonus was to be surrounded by beautiful books. We will definitely go back to Sulla Luna very soon!
