Winter 2022 Guide to Boston-Area Restaurant Openings | Eater Boston

"I found an Irish pub-style spot occupying the old Sullivan’s Pub space that serves some Boston rarities like scotch eggs alongside loaded potato soup, potato boxty, and curry brick chicken, plus an affordable beer-and-wine list (including local picks) and cocktails such as an espresso martini and a black velvet." - Rachel Leah Blumenthal

My recent visit to Sullivan's Public House in Charlestown unfortunately fell far short of expectations. Our decision to try Sullivan's after finding no room next door quickly turned regrettable due to a series of disappointing interactions and service issues. The main issue began with the main bartender, a bearded individual who we believe was named Billy or Mike. Despite the presence of multiple open tables, he informed us that "the bar is at capacity," compelling half of our party to wait outside, which was both puzzling and disheartening. The situation was further exacerbated when we attempted to place a food order, only to have the same bartender outright deny our request. This refusal was not only unexpected but also contrary to the welcoming atmosphere we hoped to find. It was only after finding another staff member, a woman who was more accommodating, that we were able to order. However, the frustration didn't end there. After our order was finally accepted, the service was remarkably slow, taking an entire hour for just a serving of wings and tater tots to be served. For a pub known for its casual fare, this delay was unacceptable and significantly detracted from our experience. Reflecting on the visit, I cannot recommend Sullivan's Public House. The unwelcoming attitude from the staff, particularly the denial of our food order by the bearded bartender, coupled with the excessive wait time for basic appetizers, left a lasting negative impression. It's disappointing, as we had hoped for a much more enjoyable outing.

Great spot for a quick bite and a beer. Fast, friendly service. Not so loud that we couldn't hear each other (on a weeknight, anyway). Fun places to watch hockey. Will be back!

Overall great experience. The Cesar salad was delicious. I also ordered chicken tenders which were okay. Service was great, place was fairly empty but I could see it being fun.

Billy and Adam pour a creamy pint of Guinness, and the burritos are excellent. Irish pub with great Mexican food? Unexpected but much appreciated!

Was a great spot, had no wait and great pub food for watching sports. Casual calm environment. Ordered the appetizer sampler, and everyone enjoyed. After that, most people got burgers and thoroughly enjoyed those as well, expect a solid pub burger with a generous amount of fries.Would certainly go back here, and I’m sure the takeout will be good here as well. Chef did a great job and brought out the food for us.

Will start by saying the beer was great and our personal server was great. However, we want to put on touch tunes because there was no music playing and one of the bartenders was incredibly rude about it and started swearing at us. She ruined the experience and strongly deterred us from returning. What a shame.

My husband and I had a wonderful experience at this pub for dinner on a Saturday night. Despite the busy evening, we were seated promptly. The atmosphere was just right - not too noisy, allowing us to have a peaceful conversation. The pub has a decent amount of seating, considering its size. The staff were friendly, laid back, and added to the relaxed vibe of the place. Overall, it was a no-fuss, enjoyable dining experience. We’d definitely recommend to anyone coming to the area.

Was in town on vacation and after walking the Freedom Trail this was the perfect way to cap off the night. I got a couple of the local draft beers. And we shared the Sharable Sampler, and my biggest regret is not taking a picture of it. It was delicious! Particularly the cheesesteak egg rolls and the lemon pepper sauce on the wings. It wasn’t a dry rub which I’m used to and it just might have made so I can never have a dry rub lemon pepper again! So if you’re looking for some food after the Freedom Trail, definitely make the detour!
