Saddest Boston Restaurant Closures of 2018 | Eater Boston

"I will miss the Tam and Sully’s Tapas I knew — its absolute lack of pretension, low prices, familiar faces, and decades of memories made it feel like an irreplaceable old-school dive bar." - Rachel Leah Blumenthal

We had a fantastic dining experience at Sully’s Bistro & Bar! The Cioppino was the highlight a little spicy, incredibly flavorful, and the seafood was cooked to perfection. Every bite had a satisfying blend of freshness and just the right heat. The garlic bread was amazing rich in garlic flavor and the perfect accompaniment to soak up the cioppino broth. We also tried the fish & chips (halibut) and were impressed by how crispy the outside was while the inside remained juicy and tender. Truly one of the better versions we’ve had! For dessert, the tiramisu did not disappoint light, creamy, and full of flavor. Highly recommend this spot for anyone who loves seafood and great service in a cozy, welcoming atmosphere. We'll definitely be back!

What a perfect day! The sun was out and the staff was happy! Service was fabulous as we had three staff members ensuring our visit was flawless. After stuffing ourselves in the sunshine overlooking the water, they helped us pack up our leftovers to enjoy at the hotel. We'll be back!

First time at Sully's and the fish n chips were great. I got a 3 piece but I definitely could have just gotten a two piece. Perfectly breaded and fried.

Google
I had the pleasure to go to Sully's for the first time on October 15, 2025 for my traditional solo birthday lunch. The crab cakes were absolutely delicious, as was the accompanying lemon aioli. When it came time to have dessert, the homemade tiramisu arrived with a lit candle and the servers, staff, and guests were all singing Happy Birthday! It was the ultimate surprise and I'll always remember this wonderful experience. At 72, it made my birthday extra special. Thank you to all! P.S. The tiramisu was the best I have ever eaten!

Went almost every Tuesday for tacos. Service always great. Go a little early or make reservation because it will get full. Parking rough because of construction by pier. TVs for watching the game. Outside good seating in summer, can’t beat the views of Seattle and Mt Rainier. Fish and chips and clam chowder worth a stop. We love this place.

Google
Great little place to visit with good cocktails and food. We shared the meatballs, side salad, and halibut cakes special with a side of fries. The portions were very large so we took about half of it home. Good service and we'll made cocktails. We'll go back when the outdoor seating is uncovered.

Google
Had a delicious lunch with waters views and outstanding food!

Google
Great "off the beaten path" place to enjoy a meal with super friendly staff, and well served meals....bonus was the Orcas

Yelp
Went back for a second visit while in Washington. Had a great experience the first time. We have family that live near this place and it never disappoints. It's on the water with great views. The food once again was very good and vey nicely plated. The service has always been good. They have good specials and a good variety of dishes on the menu. Great place to visit for some good food.

Yelp
Great food, service and view from outdoor covered and heated seating patio. Walking distance to Chief Sealth memorial. I go for the Reuben or the fish and chips.

Yelp
Great service and delicious food! We had the Halibut Cakes and I had a Bloody Mary!! Everything was amazing and tasty !! I will be back when in the area again!!

Yelp
We have hear time and again that this Bisto was like "Cheers" and we were eager to try it. They have a post where they have a different theme for each day, and although we missed "taco "Tuesday, we still enjoyed our meal. We started with a Manny's beer, and Moscow mules. The house salad and balsamic was great (although a neighboring table had the Cobb which really caught my attention) We went with the two piece fish and chips (coleslaw/tartar and fries) a mushroom burger with fries. Everything was great. They also have a great dessert meal-we had an order of the Mud Pie and also the warm bread pudding.

Yelp
This was a delightful stop after a day trip on Bainbridge. We were fortunate to be able to move to a table on the covered patio which allowed for such great natural light and views of the water. The service was friendly and prompt and my spouse and I enjoyed our draft beer and cider. We were amazed at the ample portions! The steamers were so fresh and plentiful, the fried oysters were great, and I loved their house salad as well with freshly ground pepper. The clam chowders were so good and were loaded with clams (the children liked this version so much better than the one they tried recently at Salty's). My husband enjoyed his fish taco as well. Locals are lucky to have such a great spot!

Yelp
Consistently fresh food and peaceful atmosphere. Love this place. Recommend for last minute dinner or planned reservation.

Yelp
Great food. Nice staff. Definitely coming here when I'm in town. Hardest part is deciding what I want to eat.

Penny M.

Yelp
Service was fast and the waitress was super friendly. Food was delicious and came to us fast. Beautiful view. No disappointments. Had the fish n chips and a Cobb salad. Yum!
google avatar

Yelp
My wife and I stopped into Sully's for lunch while playing on Bainbridge. Free parking can be found on the street. Discover is an accepted form of payment. G Pay is also a form of payment. A 20% gratuity is added to parties of 6+. Sully's offers indoor and outdoor seating. Outdoors is where you want to be to enjoy the beautiful water view while dining. Indoors is where you want to be if you want to watch TV. Sully's has a nice selection of local craft draft beer, as well as wine and a full bar. While enjoying the view my wife slurped on a Manny's and I a 7 Seas IPA for $7 each. We started our lunch by sharing a cup of Clam Chowder for $6.50. We were both disappointed in the Clam Chowder. It was bland and on the thin side. For our lunch we shared the 2-piece Fish (Halibut) & Chips for $25. The fish was hot and crispy of the outside and sweet and flaky on the inside. The shoestring fries were a nice change from hand-cut fries. The coleslaw was creamy and refreshing on a summer afternoon. Service was friendly and efficient. Overall, if you're looking for luxurious dining, Sully's is not the place. If you're looking for good food with a dazzling view then Sully's is the correct place. Allow yourself time after dining to go and walk on the pier and beach.
google avatar

Ralph S.

Yelp
I love this little place with great food, reasonable prices, large quantities and friendly staff. The outside dining is casual and shaded. So easy to get to and then you can walk on the pier and take pictures of Mt. Rainier

Yelp
Great food, sorry no pics,we were hungry! The rib eye is huge!! The turkey bacon cheddar was delicious. Nice service. Pleasant dining room. Also, covered, heated outdoor eating space.
google avatar

Rachel M.

Yelp
I got chili with cheese without onions. I think it needed a little more cheese. A tuna melt with potato salad. The melt was a little too hot. After it cooled off, it was good. I was warned that the tuna salad had onions, and I said that would be ok. I didn't notice any of them, which was nice. I'm not allergic to them, I just hate when it's raw most of the time. It has to be fried, caramelized, cooked in something, etc. Got pineapple upside down cake for dessert. It was very good. The service was great. The ambiance was ok. A little too dark, though. Also, feels a little dangerous climbing up a huge bump (there are no stairs) to get into the restaurant. I always have to use the railing.
google avatar

Alvaro F.

Yelp
Staff was friendly. Came in to read a book and have some drinks. There was live music which was fun to experience the energy of this place, and there was also a baseball game on where some of the customers got really... passionate. Overall fun place and would come back for more drinks in the future. I got their strawberry cider. It was on the dry side, but it hit the spot.

Yelp
Really enjoyed lunch here with friends. Quick and friendly service with a smile. Drinks and food was delicious. For appetizers, we had crab cakes, onion rings, and Calamari. They were all excellent. I had a burger with cheddar cheese and avocado with fries for my entree and my friends had fish and chips and the tuna melt. They were delicious. Cocktails were fantastic too - I highly recommend the paper plane. This was a delicious find; I look forward to returning!

Yelp
I've had the hamburger, chili, cioppino, Chowder & fried oysters all have been excellent. The oysters were briny and fresh, and the cioppino was tasty and spicy with excellent, fresh seafood. I love spicy so if you're spicy challenged you may want to make sure the cioppino is tamed for you. Every time I've been here, multiple times spanning over a year the service has been superb, attentive, efficient and friendly even at peak hours.

Gary M.

Yelp
sully's bistro & bar has a limited menu. don't be fooled! the house brined bone in pork chop is simply splendid

Yelp
We like to stop here when we are in Kitsap County in our way from Kingston to Bainbridge. It is on Suquamish land near the Suquamish Longhouse. Wonderful view of the water! Service: fantasist service. Wait staff attentive to detail including if we were getting too much sun. Attentive to our water and iced tea refills. Food came pretty fast. We were seated outdoors fairly quickly. Food: pretty standard better than average. My kiddo loved his fettuccine Alfredo with chicken. Spouse got one huge halibut taco. I got two halibut fish and sweet potato fries. Enjoyed my meal! Ambience: we sat outdoors. On a beautiful sunny day the view is beautiful from the patio!

Yelp
Stumbled upon Sully's - Was the best stumble as I fell in love with the food - atmosphere - view - staff and the small establishment on the corner. I am a NE girl first and foremost I grew up with fresh seafood as I was attracted to fisherman - lobsterman ocean ma enough of that but when I say fresh I do mean it. Any who my mission for the last 8 years has been to find a fish n chips I can sink my teeth into. The batter has to be great and rise above the fish just so - #sullynailedit. That's right I am a professional and I can say the fish was fresh perfectly cooked - the cole slaw was on point with shoe string fries. My daughter and I split a fish n chips 3 piece. No need to spend money foolishly these days. Our food was hot served in about 7 minutes She brought malt vinegar need I say more. Try those wings please they are good I do mean great. Come again sure will. Five stars and up.

Yelp
Great food and cold beer the service is great and cheerful BUT I have never had hot or warm French fries here but other than that it's a really nice clean establishment

Jen D.

Yelp
the waitress had the most discussing fingernails. They were like 3 in long and filed to a sharp point. discussing. If they hire something like that and have it represent front of the house, it really makes me question this place

Jonathan D.

Yelp
Food was good. The female server has the longest fingernails like claws. I won't be back due to how unprofessional and unhygienic that is. They were filed to be sharp spikes. So gross
google avatar

Tracy K.

Yelp
Wow, first time here and it was impressive. Great service, everything came out quickly and was delicious. No pictures, we ate too fast, but both the tuna melt I had and the turkey cheddar bacon my husband had were perfection. When we're back in the area, we'll definitely be coming back. Just a small hole in wall worth the visit!
google avatar

Sandy R.

Yelp
Great place. Service was quick even with them being very busy. Fun casual atmosphere. Food was good. Will visit again. Lots of locals at Sully's
google avatar

Christina P.

Yelp
Prices way way way too high $18 ish for a chicken Caesar salad wrap - hardly filled and was canned chicken. Ew. Maybe this is really more of a drinking spot?
google avatar

Ed B.

Yelp
Solid bar food. Definitely coming back to sample the Prime Rib some day in the future
google avatar

Brenda G.

Yelp
I absolutely love this hidden gem! I just wish the fish would go back to less breading like it used to have 5 years ago. Will definitely return!
google avatar

Ana M.

Yelp
They were pretty busy during a Mariners' game. Fortunately we found a table on yhe patio and enjoy the sun :) Good vibes and family atmosphere. We ordered coconut prawns which were very good by the way! A burger which was good and a sandwich. Noyhing espectacular but I would come back. Staff was busy but always patient and with good vibes, friendly, and fun. We parked right outside with no problem. I think there's a park near so various spots but lots of them were used. I felt it was pricey for what we had at a regular bar.
google avatar

Andrea J.

Yelp
Beautiful location-, lots of space to sit but why sit indoors when you can sit on the patio and gaze into the vastness of the sound. Great sunny day spot. Decent bar food, friendly and fast service. Decent selection of liquor. All in all a no fuss spot to spend a sunny afternoon sipping your cares away while crunching on some munchies . Oh and probably the best burgers in town!
google avatar

Yelp
I've lived in Suquamish for over 50 years and only recently did I visit Sully's Bistro. Family from CA was visiting and we opted to try them since they are only 5 minutes away. Food and service was excellent. I can easily walk to the establishment for a quick bite when so don't want to cook at home. Will definitely be back! Fish tacos were great w/avocados & jalapeños. Others had their chippino and scrapped their bowls clean.
google avatar

Jim L.

Yelp
Just before the pandemic lock downs Sully's ownership changed and I was hopeful the food would improve; it has. I will go here often now. The food is good and the view is unbeatable.
google avatar

Josh S.

Yelp
It is very apparent that there is some attention to detail when eating at Sully's. Here's my opinion of my first visit 1. Service- everyone was very attentive to any needs I might have had, and the food was prepared very quickly. 2. Location- located near what looks to be a park and a small dock for mooring up too. 3. Food- It was ok. Unfortunately, I was not able to order the Halibut for my fish and chips, but I don't think it would have mattered. The batter was nicely made but lacked flavor. The fish wasn't very flavorful either, but what can be done when it is cod? 4. Drink- There seemed to be many options, but I went with a local beer hoping it was the freshest. Sadly my beer was either old or the lines needed to be cleaned. I decided not to finish it. All in all, it wasn't a bad experience. The delivery of the food was on nice plates, and the attentiveness of the staff was very impressive. The inside of the restaurant was clean from what I can tell, and the tables and floors looked to be well taken care of. I would come here again probably for a lunch break. Hopefully, they'll have some Cod or another interesting option.

Taylor B.

Yelp
My family eats here multiple times a month and rarely has there ever been an issue. Great tasting food, amazing views and the friendliest staff around.

Fred W.

Yelp
Stopped here recently for dinner. Everything was quite good over 4 different dishes. While nothing overly fancy or innovative (this is where a lot of restaurants over reach and fail) the food was above your typical beer sponge cuisine that many bar and grills offer. In fact we reordered the calamari and fish tacos because they were so good. Slight ding on service.....we had 4 varying servers and a few times felt overlooked but the food more than made up for it.
google avatar

Andy P.

Yelp
My wife and I were visiting the Suquamish tribal museum and Chief Sealth's gravesite around lunchtime. We spotted Sully's, and decided to give it a try. It was a great experience! We both ordered the fish taco (daily special) and split a cup of clam chowder. My comment to the server was that the fish taco was one of the messiest that I've eaten, but probably the very best one. I did suggest serving it on a plate, rather than a wire basket, because of the liquid from the dressing. The fish was plentiful, and not breaded, as is common. The taco shell was different than we've seen elsewhere -- more like a fry bread. We shared a cup of great clam chowder. The dessert menu looked very tempting, but we were full from the fish tacos. Next time....
google avatar

Elizabeth V.

Yelp
Great neighborhood spot to grab a casual meal and a cocktail. Excellent and attentive service and a darn good fish and chips. We had the fried calamari appetizer which was also quite tasty. The lemon yuzu sauce that came alongside is delightful. Ask for an extra cup, it's small and one wasn't enough for two of us sharing the app. The fish and chips were perfectly battered and fried. The fries? Meh. More of a bed for the fish than an actual side. I would have LOVED to have had a non-fried fish option, but I'm not upset about what I did order. Tasty. Super picky note: the amount of plastic used for a dine in experience was off putting. Disposable condiments cups with lids for table service felt a little icky. That's neither here nor there, just an observation in the days of being aware of our footprints.

Cathlin R.

Yelp
Awesome food Great service Outside seating with wonderful view Ruben sandwich is my favorite but everything is delicious.
google avatar

Christy K.

Yelp
The tater tots are sooooo delicious! They should be an option on the main menu. They came with my daughter's meal and they were so much better than the fries! Fish was great! Burger was yummy. Beer was heavenly! So glad we found this place. Servers were friendly and restroom was clean. I would definitely recommend!
google avatar

Kimberly A.

Yelp
Let's start off by saying parking here is horrible. Nice view of the water. Restaurant inside is very small but had additional outdoor seating. This place is a local favorite and everyone including servers, diners were all friendly. Prices are reasonable and seafood is fresh. Surprisingly it kid friendly considering it gave me more bar vibes. The high chair is disgusting. It's the plastic cheap not sturdy kind from the 90's and needs to be updated. Wished I took a picture of it.
google avatar

Angela F.

Yelp
This is one of the places my son and daughter-in-law like to go, They have a very early happy hour, so we went the day I arrived in Bremerton WA. Pretty hardy appetizers for happy hour, we had sliders and fries and couldn't finish them all. Reasonably priced. Big place, wide open, lots of tables and as expected lots of TV. Lots of local atmosphere, definitely not a dress up kind of place, but it was good. I don't live in this area, but I enjoyed our snacks and would definitely go again, as long as there is no major sports event on (I'm not a sports fan of any kind, although I do like the food.).
google avatar

Sean D.

Yelp
I love fish and chips. I will literally order fish and chips every time i see it on a menu. With that in mind I am going to review Sully's based solely on the three piece fish and chips I ordered. -Visual: Looks great. Incudes all three requirements (Fish, Chips, and coleslaw). Fish is golden brown, fries are yellow and seasoned and the coleslaw looks fresh. (one star) -Coleslaw: Very tasty. Great flavor, dressing is tangy Portion size was large. Over all it was above average. (one star) -Fries: The fries were the seasoned style fries. They were a little cold. The portion was fine and flavor was also OK. There are your standard middle of the road fries. Nothing to write home about but still about what you expect. Just wish they had been warmer. (.5 star) -Fish: While the fish looked good it fell short in the taste arena. It was over breaded and the actual fish portions were small. I'm a big fan of breading, but the fish becomes easy to overcook if it's too small. That was the case here. It was tough and I was unable to finish the last piece due to the favor and texture. Too bad because it looked great. (0 stars) -Value: Here is the good news. For a three piece fish and chips it was under $20.00. That's a great deal. (1 star) Hopefully the fish is cooked better more often than not and I'll be back to try it again. 3.5 stars for these fish and chips.

Yelp
We love you Sully's!! Always amazing food service and hometown vibe! Great staff! Their bloody Mary's btw are sooooo good. I crave them.
google avatar

Lisa M.

Yelp
Now I know why people keep telling me to avoid this place. I have repeatedly received slow service and sub par food from this Sully's, so I'm not sure why (other than alcohol) this place has any business at all. Receiving dead clams is the last straw. Food quality and cleanliness is obviously not something that the management is interested in. I have witnessed a lot of questionable behavior from the staff and questionable food from the kitchen. It's like nobody actually cares about the quality of the FOOD they are supposed to be selling. If you are going to eat here, be careful about what you order. The ciopinno use to be good, but they decided to serve it without muscles the last time I had it and it was terrible. There was extremely overcooked cod it it, it was basically inedible. You can't just skimp or substitute traditional ingredients to save a buck. Dead seafood. Old rotten product. Still serving it to customers.... You've gotta be drunk to think this is good food. I wish I could get my time and money back.

Yelp
I love this little place ! Off the beaten path small local and perfect ! Try it out talk to the locals and enjoy ! Dive bar look but little town feel ! Love it thanks ! I was by myself never felt uncomfortable ... thanks

Yelp
Sully's Bistro has good food and great service. It's wonderful to have a nice restaurant close by!

Yelp
We have really enjoyed Sully's for the past 2 years, when we discovered it. This evening we came at a time everyone else also arrived. Our order somehow fell off the order desk. Ok, this sort of thing periodically may happen in a busy restaurant and unfortunately we had an appointment to get to. When the dining room manager discovered the problem she asked if we needed the food to "go". Very soon we got the food and NO bill. The manager apologized again and said it was on the house and that she hoped that we would be back. Later the dinner was delicious as usual. There are always screwups in life but how we own up to them makes a huge difference. They did just right at Sully's and we definitely remain satisfied and loyal customers.

Kubo K.

Yelp
Open and with patio seating. We came there on a Tuesday at 5:30pm. We only had to wait about 10 min. They thoroughly cleaned the seats and table for us and made us use paper plates and plastic forks. Great fish and chips, calamari and clam chowder. I did find a piece of styrene in the soup but it wasn't a big deal. They were very apologetic and offered us dessert. Which I tried to decline but they wouldn't budge. Delicious food, excellent service, plenty of parking on the street. I look forward to my next visit to the area.
google avatar

Amy O.

Yelp
Although I live very close to here driving to this restaurant is a chore. But I am so happy to say WORTH it!!!! The inside leaves something to be desired as the first thing you see is the bar. It's gives it a divey feel. It was also dark due to low ceilings. But then you go outside and BAM! There it is. Beautiful view of the puget sound. I'm always in the look out for "the best" of everything. And Fish and Chips are a staple. Absolutely delicious fish and chips! With a perfect amount of tasty tarter sauce on the side. I loved the coleslaw but my bf said it's too sweet. My daughter got the fish taco and it didn't come with anything else. It's large but for a hungry teen it was not enough food. She ended up eating my fries and a half a piece of fish. The service was friendly and prompt. They for sure have it down ! Bravo. Overall this is a must if your in the area, or even if you have to travel on a ferry. It's worth it for the full outside fish and chip experience. They also have great wine!
google avatar

Bernie K.

Yelp
We had dinner there tonight- My husband had fish and chips and I had the grilled chicken sandwich. Both were really tasty. His gosh was so fresh and the chicken breast on my sandwich was juicy and cooked perfectly. We lucked out and there was live music on the patio. Super nice experience!
