"A lively modern brasserie with on-trend concrete walls, burnished leather banquettes and a charcoal grill. Icelandic ingredients are given a Middle Eastern twist, with influences ranging from North African to Lebanese. The flavors were what we really liked. The flavors were nicely subtle. The cod was excellent . Maybe as good as I have had in Iceland. The lamb shanks and shrimp were also excellent. Service was v good. There are some errors in the billing, but nothing major. Atmosphere was ' happening ' so we really enjoyed the evening. The flat bread was also excellent. So overall, an evening of note. Would recommend.

We had an amazing dining experience at Sumac! From start to finish, everything was outstanding. The atmosphere is warm and stylish, with a vibe that feels both relaxed and sophisticated. The food was absolutely delicious — we tried the mushrooms, cod, cauliflower, and lamb ribs, and every dish was packed with flavor and beautifully presented. Each bite felt thoughtfully prepared, and you could really taste the quality of the ingredients. The lamb ribs, in particular, were incredibly tender and flavorful. To top it all off, the desserts were fantastic — rich, well-balanced, and the perfect end to an already memorable meal. Highly recommend Sumac for anyone visiting Reykjavík. It’s a must-try spot for food lovers looking for something special. We’ll definitely be back next time we’re in town!

Sumac just became one our favourite restaurants! Everything was packed with exciting flavours and cooked to perfection. The service was attentive and not at all pretentious. There was a real attention to detail in both the food and the interior design. Only minus is that the meals arrived even too quickly - we would have enjoyed to have a bit more time to sit, talk and enjoy.

Ordered the 7-course meal for my friend's birthday. We had flatbread with baba ganoush and hummus for starters. Also the halloumi and oyster mushrooms- which was incredibly tasty especially the sauce. Main dishes were the shrimps, chicken thighs, cauliflower and lastly an ice cream for dessert. Wasnt really a fan of cauliflower but the tahina sauce and almonds complemented it perfectly.

Honestly one of the best restaurants we have ever been to. My husband and I opted for the 7 course tasting menu & I had the wine pairing. We sat at the bar so that we could watch all of the food being prepped. The first course was some flatbreads, an exceptional baba ganoush, hummus, mushroom course & halloumi. This blew us away and it was only the first round!! Next, we had shawarma chicken thigh, harissa fish & roasted cauliflower for the main. We both agreed we have never eaten cauliflower like it and the sauce the fish was in was exquisite. Then for dessert, we had a lovely little chocolate mousse. The wine pairings were delicious and very generous. The staff were all really super. I honestly can’t praise this restaurant and our meal enough…you must visit! It was also good value for Iceland and for a tasting menu. If only we lived closer…

Outstanding food - cooked over a flame, would recommend the meat platter, potatoes and flat breads. Beautifully accompanied with a ginger and rose water cocktail!

A warm and a bit rustic environment. This restaurant was full to the brim so i recommend a reservation. The food was very flavourful and the portion sizes pretty large for this type of a restaurant on the verge of being fine dining. Great flavour combinations overall. The dessert was the only thing that seemed very basic and a bit out of line with the rest of the menu. We had some problems with the service (wine pairing was missing a wine, but this got eventually resolved with apologies from the staff). If you want to step out of the Icelandic fare that is served around the city center into a world of middle-eastern-icelandic fusion, recommended.

When I tell you this is the place you need to be…good Gawd all mighty. The food was exceptional. Everything was full of flavor. I had the Baba Ganesh and flatbread and when I tell you it made me wanna smack my momma…boooiiiii…I could eat that all day alone. Then came the kebab which was to die for. If you’re looking for an amazing spot in Iceland that’s different, go here. Also, Jóhanna at the bar was a vibe and great company for this solo traveler.
