All the Stars from The MICHELIN Guide Vancouver 2025

"In a quiet 14-seat Mount Pleasant counter, I found Chef Pete Ho has ushered in a new gold standard of yakitori in Vancouver. The multicourse omakase ranges from red crab chawanmushi with yuzu and crispy, delicately fried tofu accented with sweet soy to a centerpiece of skewers of chicken grilled over binchotan coals. Using specially sourced heritage-breed birds, skillful butchery, masterful seasoning—including a special tare maintained over decades—and brilliant grill technique, the results are uncomplicated yet profound: impeccably cooked crisp-skinned breast and thigh and revelatory less conventional cuts like chicken “oysters” and heart. It's no wonder this is the most hotly in-demand reservation in town." - The MICHELIN Guide

Sumibiyaki looks unassuming from the outside, but step in and you’ll find a beautifully designed space with inviting vibes. The food is top notch and the chicken is grilled to perfection. The service is impeccable and every detail feels well thought of. Easily a 5-star experience. If you don’t get a reservation right away, keep trying - it’ll be worth it!

My husband and I enjoyed the meal here. Every single piece of food or dish tasted excellent. The chef paid attention to the details such as flavours, texture, quality, presentation, and smell. Each dish was very impressive. Four servers would serve the customers at the same time. Each of them would explain to customers what the dish was and what ingredients were included. All of the servers were very polite and friendly. Each person cost $175. I would say it was worth the price as customers could get to try so many dishes. Just look at the photos I took. Each dish looked small but when eating everything, customers must be full at the end of the meal. I was like “eyes are bigger than my stomach.” 😆 I would recommend others to come. It’s great to dine in here if you are celebrating someone’s birthday or any special occasions.

Arguably the most difficult reservation to get in Vancouver right now, and probably one of the most unique dining experiences. From the food itself to the service and the ambience, it was a really memorable evening. Unlike sushi omakases where it does feel like a tasting menu, we were stuffed to the brim by the end of the meal. Pricey yes but I think it’s fair value for what you get holistically. They do intersperse non-meat dishes in between, but it is very meat-centric obviously. There were familiar cuts as well as less utilized cuts (at least in North America) of chicken. However, the A5 Wagyu really stole the show. I’m still thinking about it now… But lastly, would I go again? Probably not. Great to experience once, and I would recommend everyone getting to try this. It’s a single concept done really well, and I feel like experiencing it once will keep it a really special memory.

Sumibiyaki Arashi is the real deal. Booking a spot is a mission, but it pays off big time! We were first-timers for this style of food and were seriously amazed by every smoky bite. It was an unforgettable dinner and an easy five stars. The ultimate flex? The washroom has a bidet. You just know a place is legit when that's a feature. We can't wait to come back!

It’s totally worth the price in my opinion. The ingredients are fresh. Each dish was thoughtfully prepared and masterfully grilled. I really appreciate how all the flavors were seamlessly combined together and created a really enjoyable experience. We also had a Sake tasting flight which was accompanied by the history and a bit of background info about each brewer. The service was also impeccable, I went to use the washroom and the server was waiting for me to come back to explain the dish.

Finally got to try Chef Pete and his first brick & mortar here in Vancouver. If you’re looking for an intimate, personable and extraordinary culinary experience - this is a must try. Yes the average spend may be higher than usual but the memory honestly lasts forever. Who knew you can use so much a chicken to create a full omakase experience. Can’t wait to go back next month for the special menu.

This was a wonderful and unique dining experience that is very rare in Vancouver. Probably one of one at the moment. Yakitori omakase style dinner -with the star protein being chicken featured in a multitude of ways was amazing! Was only able to capture a fraction of the food as your natural instinct will be to eat it immediately. One thing I appreciated is the smell of the charcoal. It definitely brought back memories of the way they do it in Japan. There are currently two seatings available and it took a month to book ahead. They really book up! I really do see this catching on really quick so check it out soon.

Not many experiences like this one and worth it if you can get in. Very chicken forward but that does not distract from the experience. Pricey, yes but only a problem if you are addicted to chicken. Service is tremendous and the sparkling sake was a revelation.
