SumiLicious Ups the Ante on the Humble Sandwich

"MICHELIN Bib Gourmand SumiLicious introduces classic Montreal smoked meats to a fresh new audience. Chef Sumith Fernando honed his culinary craft during his 17 years at Montreal’s famous Schwartz’s Deli... For the smoked meat poutine, we use freshly cut potatoes seasoned with our spices, cheese curds and gravy topped with chopped smoked meat... Smoked Meat sandwich, medium is our signature." - MICHELIN Guide

SumiLicious Smoked Meat & Deli

"In a non-descript Scarborough shopping center, Sumith Fernando’s smoked meat is something of a rite of passage. Fernando spent nearly two decades learning his craft at Schwartz's in Montreal before settling on his own recipe. His halal brisket is marinated in a secret spice blend for days, smoked for hours until tender and finally finished in a steamer. He opened in 2018 and has been behind the counter ever since, building sandwiches out of thinly sliced, peppery brisket piled high on soft, spongy rye smeared with yellow mustard. Against the advice of any physician, complete your order at this no-frills deli with poutine—fries topped with Quebec cheese curds and submerged in gravy. Ask for extra napkins, you'll need them." - Michelin Inspector

Google
Words won't do this justice. This is pretty much the best sandwich I've ever had. Well worth the drive to Markham. Don't judge it solely on the small cozy deli atmosphere, this spot is truly world class. I have taken family and friends, and can't wait to go again. The smoked meat combo is my go-to but the smoked meat poutine is amazing as well. Enjoy!!

Google
I came here for a late lunch. The experience was just okay - based on some social media stuff I was expecting this to be a lot better than it was. For starters it was quite pricey and the portion size wasn't huge. Came to $23 for a combo with a sandwich fries pickle and some coleslaw. But there wasn't actually a ton of meat on the sandwich, it was piled high at the front to make it look like more but it was empty at the back. The smoked meat was tender but lacking flavor, and I thought the rye bread was a little bit stale. The tiny portion of coleslaw wasn't very good. It seemed like cabbage and vinegar and nothing else. The dill pickle and the fries were good. Service was excellent and fast.

Google
Delicious food. A little bit on the pricier side but good portion sizing of meat helps to justify it. Growing up I used to go to Schwartz every year when we would visit family in Montreal, and this really gave me some feelings of nostalgia since I haven't been in a really long time. The inside really gives you that old school diner vibe, but the place was also very clean. The menu is simple, most order the smoked meat sandwich combo which comes with a sandwich, fries, coleslaw, and a big dill pickle for ~$21. They really nail the smoked meat. It's flavourful, a handful to eat, and really tender. Definitely won't be the last time I come here!

Google
People who gave them 1 star review are crazy. People who said their smoked meat fat are crazy. We went here today and ordered a combo, poutine and a sandwich. Smoked meat is very juicy, and not fat at all. I am not a poutine lover but their poutine blew my mind. We were so happy and stuffed. Love their service, very organized and fast. Definitely will come back and recommend to our friends.

Google
Absolutely delicious! I had the smoked meat sandwich combo and it totally lived up to the hype. The meat was tender, perfectly seasoned, and stacked high – just the way it should be. The sandwich had that classic Montreal-style feel, and the portion was generous. The combo came with fries, coleslaw, and a pickle, making it a solid value for the quality and quantity you get.

Google
Came for a quick lunch. Very friendly staff. The Montreal smoked meat was a success. With so few Deli's left in Toronto I was very surprised to find one this far east that made their own meat. $25 gets you a sandwich combo. Most sandwiches are $15. Very much a hidden gem for the average shopper.

Google
Exceed my expectations. Place is bright, clean and welcoming. The signature smoked meat sandwich is amazing. Meat stacked high on white bread with mustard, very flavorful and delicious. Including in the combo is coleslaw, a whole pickle and seasoned fries, all well seasoned and tasty. Highly recommended

Google
Wow, what an amazing sandwich! Got the medium fat pastrami. Melt in the mouth and juicy. Very filling. The fries had great seasoning, The platter is an awesome option as well. Fair amount of seating inside as well. The staff was very friendly and helpful.

Yelp
Who'd think diners working for the Michelin Guide would venture this far into a nondescript Scarborough plaza (and it's quite far a trip even by east ender standards) in search of good food, and liked what they found enough to grace SumiLicious a place in the first edition Toronto Michelin Guide with a Bib Gourmand honour? Honestly. The first time I checked it out was long before the Michelin hype though, drawn instead by the Scarborough Spots Instagram profile drawing attention to their smoked meat poutine. I had no awareness of the backstory--the owner spending years working at a famous Montreal smoked meat diner before venturing to open his own shop bringing Montreal smoked meat to this far corner of Toronto proper--all that it mattered then as a poutine aficionado was I had to try what smoked meat poutine was all about. This was at the thick of the COVID pandemic though; tables were closed so I had to enjoy it in the car, and i recall it was a filling gravy drenched smasher delight requiring a fully empty stomach. Guess nothing says Montreal like smoked meat and poutine eh. The couple other visits since yes the tables were finally open but now the walls are covered with the aftermath of their Michelin Guide recognition. Sit down finally (if there is even a table open amongst the busyness) and helped myself to their smoked meat sandwich. The sandwich deal includes fries, a pickle and coleslaw (a drink is extra), but the draw of course is the thick, loose and flavourful tender pieces of smoked beef brisket sprinkled with some mustard and slapped between two pieces of rye bread. As good as it gets for a sandwich for a decent price.

Yelp
Finally had a chance to try after hearing from so much good things from friends and after earning the bib gourmand. Expectations were high walking into the shop, but we were greeted with an unpleasant smell. I am not too sure if it's from the smoked meats, cleaning agents, or something else. It was not my favourite odour. Smoked meats combo - Combo consists of a sandwich, fries, drink and pickles. Lots of meat piled on in the sandwhich, mustard was great to cut the fattiness. Was good, but not amazing. Fries were fried from potatoes, but not as crispy as I'd like. Overall it was okay to try, but did not meet the hype. Unlikely to come back again.

Yelp
I haven't been to SumiLicious for quite a while but I've been craving their delicious Smoked Meat Sandwich for a long time. It was time to go! I had their sandwich combo, which included fries, coleslaw, and a pickle. The meat was tender and flavourful without being too salty - just perfect! This was a great sandwich and a good meal! This place has earned their Michelin Bib Gourmand rating!
google avatar

Yelp
I LOVE Montreal's smoked meat. IMHO, it's better than any pastrami in the USA. Sorry Katz's. That said, Michelin Guide bib gourmand awarded Montreal smoked meat 350 miles away in Toronto? Oh yeah! What it lacks in the old school deli's in Montreal, it makes up for in outstanding flavor, tenderness and juiciness. Dry rubbed beef brisket with salt and pepper goodness, smoked for hours before being steamed for hours more, sliced up and piled up high on simple sandwich bread slathered with mustard. The smoking imparts a plesant aftertaste that sets it apart from typical pastrami. Sandwiches are great eats but if carb free is your thing,, grab a plate (small or large) and a side of tangy slaw. Be sure to specify the desired fattiness. Medium is a very good balance without getting excessively greasy. Sizable portions. Inexpensive Other sandwiches available but seriously, why mess with perfection?

Yelp
So much hype, Michelin mention etc. Nice staff. I've eaten at a lot of smoked meat places in Montreal and Toronto. I've had better. Generous portion but small fries. My sandwich was dry. Large thick pieces that crumbled, not very juicy. Far out from city (40 min)

Yelp
This is the spot for smoked meat sandwiches, save a trip to Montréal. Sumilicious is a Halal smoked meat shop & deli with a passionate owner that brings two decades of experience from Schwartz's. Along with a loyal customer base, his rendition of smoked meat is recognized on Toronto's Michelin guide. The smoked meat brisket has a unique spice seasoning that along with mustard is a magical sandwich experience. Fully-loaded. Also try a satisfying smoked meat poutine to get the full Montréal experience in Toronto. This spot will remind you of that favorite deli without the insane wait. You can even pick cuts between "lean" to "fat" to suit your appetite.

Yelp
Indulging in smoked meat is a pleasure I wish to enjoy more frequently, given its subtle flavors and supremely tender textures that seem universally appealing. The preparation of the food showcases a commitment to quality that's hard not to love. However, the overall dining experience encounters a hiccup when it comes to accessibility, which acts as the missing piece in achieving perfection. Issues like the sporadic availability of the washroom, condiments being somewhat out of reach, and the challenge of engaging with the invariably busy staff detract from the experience. Additionally, the messiness of the tables, while understandable given the bustling nature of the place, does pose a dilemma for those opting to dine in rather than take out. These obstacles, while minor in the grand scheme, highlight the complexities of balancing high demand with customer service. It's a reminder that perfection is an elusive goal, especially in the dynamic environment of a popular eatery. Nonetheless, these imperfections do not overshadow the culinary excellence of the smoked meat, serving as a testament to the idea that while we may strive for perfection, embracing the beautifully flawed nature of human endeavors can be equally satisfying.

Yelp
On our most recent visit, we ordered 3 pounds for take out and my husband specified fatty. We brought it home and it was barely even medium. We were terribly let down since we were hyping it up to our friends. We all quietly ate our sandwiches with sighs of disappointment. The poutine was pretty mediocre as well. What happened Sumilicious? You were at the top of our list of uptown suggested must eats but I hate to say it, you really missed the mark this time around.
google avatar

Deanne M.

Yelp
This is my go to spot when I'm craving Montreal smoked meat. I usually get the smoked meat sandwich with a side of fries. The sandwich is stacked with a generous portion of meat and bread is slathered with mayo. This time we got the smoked meat poutine instead of fried and we enjoyed it as well. We also tried the salami sandwich this time and a side of turkey breast meat. Both were very good. Definitely recommend checking this place out!

Yelp
Delicious!!! My 1 yr old baby chomped down too! Flavourful flaky Montreal smoked meat piled sky high. Sadly they didn't have the hot mustard so the choices were yellow mustard, Dijon or honey mustard. The fries were crispy with a nice seasoning but lacked salt. The cole slaw was the type I like, none creamy but acidic. Staff were all friendly who helped me decide between sandwiches or plates. I called back to inquire about ingredients for my friend's daughter who has severe allergies, I was passed around to 3 different staff who assured me the meat was safe to eat but the bread "may contain." I always appreciate restaurants who take allergies seriously as it can be life threatening. I only wish Sumilicious was closer! Please consider opening one in North York!

Yelp
Completely surpassed my expectations! This was my first authentic poutine experience since it was my first time in Canada. Visually, it looked very soggy and not exactly the neatest bowl of food. When my husband and I dug in, we were surprised at how the fries still retained some crunchiness under all that gravy! It wasn't like a burnt end tip fast food fry type of crunchy, it was an fresh airy type of crunchy. The texture, the crunch was perfect with the gravy. The meat was delicious. Especially the smoked brisket sandwich! Hands down the best smoked brisket I've ever had. It had a good amount of fat in it to make it a perfect bite in your mouth. These are things my kids usually would not eat. However, they both loved the poutine!
google avatar

Reh L.

Yelp
This was the best smoked meat sandwich I've ever had, and its not even close. The medium fatty smoked meat was the perfect blend of fatty and lean, seasoned to perfection, and along with the classic mustard and bread culminated into a perfect sandwich. Yes I realize I used the word "perfect" 3 times in that sentence but frankly there is no better adjective for that sandwich. Even the picture alone looked so mouth-watering, two of my friends had to immediately go try it and were just as impressed. Not to mention the fries - they're just the right amount of crispy and coated with a smoky / spicy seasoning, and go great with a bite of the juicy pickle served on the side. Overall, this was an easy 5/5 and I can't wait to go back.
google avatar

Arnold L.

Yelp
Sumilicious continues to impress especially with their BIB Gourmand status from the Michelin Guide! Since arriving in the Scarborough community, Sumilicious continues to bring a taste of Montreal with their amazing smoked meat that is filled with flavour! Whether it's in a sandwich with mustard, shredded in their legendary poutine, or straight up as it is, you can always expect a large portion for a solid price!
google avatar

Jerry D.

Yelp
Service is excellent always with a smile the smoked meat is exactly the same you would get in Schwatzs in Montreal. That's because the owner his name is Sumi worked at Schwartzs for 30 years and brought his knowledge with him to Toronto. The fries, the smoked meat the smoked turkey the karnatzel it's all there including the rib stake on coals. You have to taste it to believe it and he was one of the few in Toronto to be awarded a Michelin star. I'd give him 99 out of 100 just don't understand what in the hell he is doing in Scarborough but he has put Scarborough on the map

Greg H.

Yelp
Smoke meat was dry Chicken sandwich was ok Not breast but chicken thighs I guess the owner didn't learn the recipe correctly from Schwartz deli where he worked for years
google avatar

Jason L.

Yelp
Fantastic smoked meat finally available outside of Montreal! Saved the drive and trip to have some delicious smoked goodness. The service is solid, with friendly and helpful servers, with a diner style ambiance and feel. Great to grab some takeout and enjoy at home!
google avatar

Corey F.

Yelp
This place is pure throwback to Deli's like Schwartz's in Montreal. And the sandwiches and food I think outdoes what that place currently offers. We had the poutine and a smoked meat sandwich. Both were so amazing! The place is far... I do wish they had a downtown location. That's my only issue. Definitely, get out here when you can!

Yelp
My first time visiting and trying out this restaurant today. Heard about them after they were awarded the Bin Gourmand from Michelin. Went in on a Thursday morning around 11:15am, no line up but steady flow of customers coming in. Ordered 4 smoked meat sandwiches and 3 smoked meat poutines. Smoke with the gentlemen behind the counter as he was preparing our meals, and asked about the restaurant and also some of the other options available. Was quite interested in the smoked spiced whole turkey to pre order for the upcoming thanksgiving holiday. Brought the sandwiches and poutine home and started on the poutine. The poutine seemed a bit small and lacking in fries. Most likely they are doing sizeflation and having the container being smaller. The fries had a good amount of gravy and cheese curds. Smoked meat tasted good, and it was a enjoyable dish. Next up was the smoked meat sandwich. One bite and wow wow wow wow wow! I haven't been to Montreal and to Schwartz in over 7 years. And I truly enjoyed the sandwich at SumiLicious. The bread was warm, OG mustard, and the smoked meat was so mouth warming and melting in my mouth. This sandwich was finished very quickly and for next time if I was truly hungry I would order two sandwiches instead of a sandwich and poutine. Well deserved Bib Gourmand award!! I will be back

Yelp
Attracted my interest after recently receiving "BIB" recognition from Michelin. To avoid lines and waiting times. Got there at 1130 with only a few people on line. Ordered the meat sandwich combo ( pickle, coleslaw, fries). Need to buy drink separately. Fries were not soggy but moist with a slight exterior crispness, great potato flavor. Pickle was nice and crunchy, Coleslaw was not creamy but in a clear vinegrette type dressing. The star of the show was the Montreal meat sandwich served the traditional way with soft rye bread and yellow mustard. Meat was tender and moist with some fat, nice flavor bomb Counter staff were friendly and efficient, took the time to explain their menu. Only negative is you can't upgrade the fries to poutine in the combo. Limited seating with many customers standing waiting for their orders. Attention all carnivores "They have the meat"
google avatar

Jonathan A.

Yelp
Missing Schwartz? This place is the next best thing if you don't want to commit to an 8 hour drive down to Montreal. Had to try the smoked meat sandwich, and the karnatzel (sausage). The service was decent, but a bit on the slower side. You'd assume that cutting meat and assembling a sandwich would be really quick. It was not. The smoked meat was a little bit hit/miss. The flavour was there, but some cuts were on the dryer side. Could have just been a leaner piece of meat. Overall pretty good, but nothing to rave about. If it was a bit less dry it would have been really good. The karnatzel I enjoyed much more than I thought. It's a nice mild Jewish sausage, almost like a non-spicy pepperoni stick. I'd have that again.
google avatar

John H.

Yelp
Outstanding quality sandwiches presented by outstanding staff. Heading to Montreal soon, but this place rocks the smoked meat!!!!
google avatar

Sue J.

Yelp
Everything was okay. I can't say it was amazing. I should have asked for fatty meat for my smoked meat sandwich because it was dry- I asked for the combo but didn't think to ask for extra fat. Fries were just ok; pickle was great but wrapped in Saran Wrap and so it felt very ... cheap? I dunno. Little things make a difference and the entire experience was underwhelming. I ate inside so I'm not sure why everything had to be wrapped up. They have vernors and cherry cola- good memories. There were a lot of folk who trekked up to the area to try it though.
google avatar

Yelp
Service was great, the smoked meat sandwich was tasty and well prepared. Staff were friendly.

Yelp
Seriously guys if you haven't had their smoked meat sandwich then you are definitely missing out big time. I mean I can't get over their sandwich. So let's start with the order taking I called in ahead and my order was ready in 10 minutes so they do take phone orders which was definitely a plus. The gentleman on phone was courteous and polite. I got there grabbed my sandwich and took a pic inside the restaurant which unfortunately due to the lockdown wasn't open to inside dining. The staff behind the counter were cordial and even asked me why I was taking a pic-super friendly staff. Now let's get down to business-this sandwich was love at first bite. The bread was perfect and the meat was so moist and flavorful. The sandwich was loaded with meat. The best part about the meat aside from the great flavor was that it was super juicy and bursting of simple meat flavor .The meat almost melts in your mouth. The mustard put in was the right amount. Now the best way to enjoy this sandwich would be right away so since the inside dining is closed I ate it in the car. It's too juicy to take it long distance. So overall food, service, order taking all top notch. I wish it was closer for me I would have definitely become their regular. Lots of parking outside the place.
google avatar

Aiko I.

Yelp
So excited to know that Montreal-style smoked meat is available in that area! (closer to my home in Durham) Took out their sliced smoked meat (brisket, hot) 2 hrs prior to our dinner time. We warmed it up putting them in a zip lock bag and soaked it in mid-hot water (not microwaving) before eating. The meat was flavorful and delicious but not as tender as I wished - and I thought the pieces had a lot of fat parts. Maybe it is about luck? And maybe we'd better eat it as soon as possible? Willing to try again!
google avatar

Shaheed S.

Yelp
Brisket was juicy and delicious and they serve it on a rye with just mustard. A bit too pricey for me and had a really big deli feel. Might head back for the poutine next time when i have a larger appetite.

Victor S.

Yelp
Brisket sandwich was worst I ever had, by far. Brisket lacked much flavour, was very fatty, was coarsly cut. The sandwich fell apart. The bread was rye, but of very poor quality, and became soaked with fat from the meat. I had to finish the sandwich with cutlery. They provided only a small plastic fork for that. They got mentions from Michelin for the last 3 years-- I don't know how that could have happened. I guess Michelin can no longer be trusted! STAY AWAY FROM THIS RESTO.
google avatar

Daniel D.

Yelp
Unreal, the best deli of this style in Toronto, and it compares to some of the best Jewish deli's in the world (Langer's, Katz's, Schwartz's). The owner clearly learned his craft while working in Schwartz's for so long. The only thing I could possibly knock it for is how hard it is to get too for people who live more centrally in the city. But, an absolute gem. The fries were solid, but the main thing here is the smoked meat and it absolutely delivers.
google avatar

Jason C.

Yelp
Was wanting to try their smoked meat poutine and this place did not disappoint! Their food is both delicious and very well priced. You can choose from their smoked meat sandwiches ($13 and under) or their smoked meat poutine ($11.50). I went with the second choice and was very happy with my decision. The poutine was delicious and the gravy was very high quality. The fries and smoked meat went well with one another. For he quality of food at such an affordable price, it deserves the 5 stars.
google avatar

Bernard W.

Yelp
Never knew there was a hidden gem in that plaza. Their smoked meat was absolute delicious. The meat is extremely succulent and moist. I must say they probably had to cook it for a long time and at a specific temperature to be able to make it so perfect. Price wise it's not bad and service was quick. 5/5 for the smoked meat by itself. 3/5 fries tbh is bland and soggy so would not recommend. FYI I ate it in the car right after I got my order (smoked meat sandwich with fries) Smoked meat poutine is a must. Tip: Don't order the combo with just the fries ( they don't come with drink). If you are going to get fries, get the smoked meat poutine.
google avatar

Calvin L.

Yelp
Really fantastic smoked meat. And Congrats on the Michelin award! Probably one of the best, if not the best smoked meat in the city. For the two of us, we enjoyed the large plate of smoked meat and made our own sandwiches to our liking. Portion size is very generous, and I'd suggest also getting a beverage to go along with the meal. There was often a line up to order, but it goes by very quickly. There's a good amount of tables and chairs inside the restaurant. One of the washrooms is out of order, but the other one is large and clean. Parking is free, but it can get busy.
google avatar

Miss Lady ..

Yelp
Got the smoked meat sandwhich for $13 with "hot mustard" which was indeed spicy. However for $13 I was expecting a 10" sandwich, but was disappointed with the sandwhich that is smaller than the size of a fork. The meat had flavour to it but with only just the meat and no other condiments except mustard, I had to add my own stuff when I got home. It's overpriced for the portion you're getting, even if it is a lot of meat stuffed in there. $8 would have been more reasonable. Halal meat served here. Contact them for details.
google avatar

Felix A.

Yelp
$$$ But so worth it. Taste like I was in Montreal again. The smoked meat was so tender and flavourful. At first I thought it wouldn't been enough to fill us up. The place is very clean and deli like ambiance. U can smell pickles and meat. The sandwich was fantastic, the best pickles, fries were perfect but not enough. We ordered a combo but doesn't come with a drink. Also comes with a very tiny coleslaw but with big flavour. Very nice and friendly staff.

A T.

Yelp
Sumilicious serves Montreal style smoked meat sandwiches that are even better than the ones available at the famous eateries in Montreal. The meat is nicely seasoned, tender, and always juicy, never dry. I have eaten here since they opened, and their meat has been consistently good over the years. This is a quick service restaurant, with seating available for those who choose to eat in restaurant.
google avatar

Yelp
When I worked nearby, I would come here practically every other day. With the lockdowns and changes to my job, the opportunities that I have to indulge in this outstanding meat is far less frequent. But today, I was in the area and... wouldn't you know it, it also happened to be the restaurant's 4th anniversary (April 27, for those counting) - the type movie-worthy coincidence that just begs for an update. What I can say is that, compared to my first review, some things have changed, and others things have remained the same. What's the same? Crave-satisfying meat, custom cut (personally recommend medium). Saucy, cheesy poutine Outstanding customer service ...and what's changed? Well, this restaurant got so popular that calling in to order is a lot more difficult than it used to be because the phone is buzzing more than when it first opened (...with good reason!) So give yourself more time. Oh, they also changed the bread - it's less dry now (see how they take feedback!!!) AND they serve coleslaw with the sandwich too. In fairness, the prices have gone up as well - but I think that's a universal change everywhere. There is still no better place in the GTA to satisfying the smoked meat craving. And I still think that their chicken sandwich is the most underrated sandwich in the neighbourhood ("why would you get a chicken sandwich at a smoked meat deli?!?!" ...just try it once, and you'll see.) I do recommend the large smoked meat plate to maximally satisfy your meat-tooth! Happy 4th Anniversary, Sumilicious! Here's to many more.

Yelp
Honestly, I am a huge fan of Montreal smoked meat. This place reminded me so much of Schwartz. The smoked meat here was juicy, flavourful, and cooked to perfection. Like the one in Montreal, it gave a melt in your mouth kind of experience. It was hard to ignore how amazing a small bite of yellow mustard can really change a sandwich. Talking about mustard, we decided to order take out. It was 1 lb of their famous smoked meat with half a loaf of rye bread. To our surprise, they would not give us any sauce packets! They asked us for $1 for a squeeze of mustard into a sauce container. That was so off putting. So I deducted a star. We could really run to the grocery store next door and get our own giant bottle for $1. Anyway, if you are craving a sandwich, this place is not a bad choice. Just remember to bring your own bottle of mustard.
google avatar

Kelly C.

Yelp
Their smoked meat is very good, the meat is Smokey, lean with a bit of fat, and very tender.

Aron Z.

Yelp
Genuinely don't know how people like this spot. Dry sandwiches where the meat is so bland. I'd rather eat McDonald's than this.

Yelp
I haven't been here in almost 2 years. Went in last week, ordered a smoked meat combo to go. Once I ordered the person behind the counter stopped and pointed out that the Perrier water I was drinking wasn't allowed in the store. I just ordered Take out! Thank you for pointing out the drink, I didn't know that ordering take out wasn't allowed with a drink from outside. I said "Thanks" and BYE! Turned around and left.

Yelp
If you like smoked meats, look no further. This place's smoked meats is just as good if not better than the ones I've had in Montreal! So glad they are around and made it through this pandemic. I've been coming here for years and they haven't disappointed me except for a few times on Tuesdays when I got there and realized they are closed... Why can't they be open 7 days a week! [ Smoked meat poutine ] - The type of fries they serve here are one my favourite, not necessarily crunchy but very flavourful and have a creamy mashed potato texture interior. Topped with gravy and a generous portion of smoked meat bits. [ Smoked meat sandwich ] - Can't get much better than this place's. Smoked meat is juicy and flavourful with the spices they've put on and mustard is a MUST (even though I'm not a fan of mustard on other foods). Whenever I'm looking for a high protein meal, this place is always an option for me... Except for Tuesday's XD

Yelp
The chef here worked for 17 years at Schwartz's in Montreal. The smoked meat was tender & flavourful, with nice fatty bits. Also had the smoked meat poutine. Unfortunately it was less than the sum of its parts. The smoked meat was very finely chopped, which made it very hard to appreciate its texture and flavour. The fries were fresh & crispy. The cheese curds were quite squeaky but the finely chopped smoked meat made it hard to appreciate their texture. The gravy was quite mild tasting, which would have been alright on its own, but together with the finely chopped smoked meat it resulted in a muddied flavour profile.

Yelp
So surprisingly, I'd never ever had a smoked meat sandwich in my LIFE before trying Sumilicious. Why? I have no idea...I guess I didn't really understand what it was or how it could be good....boy, was I wrong! I was introduced to this place by some friends at a picnic, and let's just say that I'm now kicking myself for letting 40 years pass by without knowing the pleasure that is a smoked meat sandwich. I was worried it would be chewy or gristly but honestly it melted in my mouth! Thick, juicy meat piled HIGH with mustard...this sandwich has earned a spot in my heart! Given that I have nothing to compare it to, this is now my standard to which I will compare every other smoked meat sandwich to - they'll have to be top notch, that's for sure! Little hidden gem in a little plaza on the Scarborough/Markham border, make sure you check this place out!

Yelp
I'm not sure what happened. This was one of my favorite places. Their poutine went from one of the best to the worst I ever had. They've made the size extremely smaller and increased the price. It is not as great as it used to be.

Yelp
I am so happy this place is easily accessible for me...I mean...did ya see the pics of all that MEAT? Located in a plaza on Steeles/Middlefield (Scarborough), this place does smoked meat right. Dare I say...I like it better than Schwartz...personal preference but I find it not as salty and less fatty than Schwartz. I know some prefer the fattiness...but this sandwich was perfect for me. The meat is STACKED high - definitely not losing out on anything here...and taking a bite (can you fit the whole thing in your mouth??) I know what heaven must be like. The mustard adds a nice, but not overwhelming touch to the meat...b/c let's face it... that smoking hot meat is where it's at bay-bee. I only got the sandwich (came to about $11-12 with tax). I see they have the cherry cola (same as Schwartz's) but I'm not really a fan of pop. At this time - takeout only. They have removed their tables for dine in. Plenty of parking in the plaza. Definitely will be hitting it up again

Yelp
Let me talk moistly to you, cause that'll happen to you when you're chomping away on this meaty goodness. I've honestly been searching for decent Montreal smoked meat in Toronto for eons and this place ranks up there. You get a choice of cuts, and well.. fatty likes a fatty. My only slight nit pick is I wish there was more options for bread. But I'm a bread snob. Hopefully the good folks here will expand to more locations.

Yelp
I've never been a fan of smoked meat until I tried this place. No lie, even trying Schwartz's in MTL I was disappointed because the meat was dry. But wow Sumilicious really knocked these items out of the ball park For the sandwich, we chose to have medium fatty pieces. They were so juicy and tender with just the right amount of fat. The meat wasn't just salty either, it had depth and flavour in there too The smoked meat poutine was absolutely packed with meat and cheese, and the cheese was actually melted. I would say the gravy gets a touch salty towards the end but still yummy Pleasantly surprised with the quality and price of items here! Definitely worth a visit

Yelp
I don't know if I'm really qualified to review Sumilicious, because I'm not really a "Montreal smoked meat (MSM) guy", and obviously many more experienced and enthusiastic Yelpers are. This place also got HUGE props on Chowhound, so I have to at least help get it on the radar as a legit place. I AM a "loaded poutine" kind of guy, however, so I am qualified to review the smoked meat poutine (which I only remembered to photograph as it was nearly gone). It's good, and the gravy and fries go well with the meat, but it definitely committed a "poutine sin" by not having copious amounts of squeaky curds - it was seriously lactose deficient. In other words, and to paraphrase the commercials of my youth: more cheese, please. The under-the-radar entrance was near lots of parking, and the inside was exceedingly clean. The inside itself is pretty spacious too, which is deceiving from the outside. Bottom line: if you are a real MSM enthusiast, and are anywhere near this part of Scarberia, I'd recommend you stop in.

Yelp
Sumilicious should be called YUMMY-licious! They make the BEST smoked meat sandwiches, using hand cured, wood-smoked briskets which taste just like the smoked meat served in Montreal, you know the one, Schwartz's Deli, the infamous Montreal smoked meat deli on Saint-Laurent. There are not many places like this anywhere in the GTA, that compare to it. It's worth the trip here, and from downtown Toronto, it's a fraction of the multi-hour drive to Montreal if you have a craving for smoked meat. Now that the nearly 50-year-old institution known as Katz's Deli & Corned Beef Emporium on Dufferin Street has sadly closed down, along with another nearly 50-year-old Toronto landmark Yitz's Delicatessen on Eglinton Avenue West, and Caplansky's midtown deli on College Street, there's been a void in the scene with huge shoes to fill. This Montreal Smoked Meat Sandwich passed the taste test with flying colours! It was epic. Meat was super tender and soft. Spiced and flavoured just right. Served nice and hot, sandwiched between rye bread, splattered with just the right amount of mustard. Oh so good. No wonder they were voted number one in BlogTO's list of Top 50 Sandwiches in Toronto. Finally, Sumilicious seems to have found its niche here, like an oasis in the delicatessen desert.

Yelp
This place has authentic Montreal smoked meat without the 5hr drive! It's always so friendly and cozy when we go. The pickle is FIRE! Please do yourself a favour and get one!
