The Best Restaurants At O'Hare Airport

"Terminal 2, Main Hall When you want to eat at an actual table and not at a crowded airport gate next to someone whose private business call sounds more like a public speech, Summer House Santa Monica is a solid option. Like its Lincoln Park location, there’s no shortage of string lights and hanging plants. Though their handhelds like chicken sandwiches, burgers, and grilled fish tacos won’t blow your mind, they’re all more reliable than your flight’s estimated time of departure. And if you’re about to be on a long flight and don't want to deal with stale pretzels or suspicious in-flight meatloaf, feel free to order some starters to go like pita and hummus or chips and salsa." - john ringor

Food was very good and very filling! We barely had to wait to sit down and the waiter was very nice. Only downsides were the prices and the decorative plants next to the tables were covered in dust which made it a bit understandable. 4☆!!!! Would come again!

Good was pretty good. Service okay, our waiter was kind to our kids. clearly they were a bit overwhelmed with the crush of people from flight delays due to the computer glitch. The fish tacos were good so were the French fries. The shaved Brussel sprout salad was good, could have had a bit more flavor.

Located in the main hall of Terminal 2 in O’Hare, this restaurant was pretty busy. With a very long layover, I did not let that deter me, but the wait wasn’t too bad anyway. You can choose to either dine in with table service or order at the counter to take away. I sat at the bar because I was trying to prolong the experience to kill time, but the food comes in disposable packaging either way, so unless you want a drink or just really want a table there, I would recommend ordering at the counter to get in and out faster and avoid having to tip a waiter. I had a virgin jalapeño business paloma, the baja fish tacos, and an apple oatmeal cookie. The virgin paloma wasn’t super strong, but that was fine with me and not unexpected when ordering an off-menu virgin version of a cocktail, I just thought it sounded refreshing, and it was. I thought the fish tacos were really good. The fish was tastefully seasoned, the toppings and tortillas were fresh, and I really liked the salsa. I enjoyed the cookie too, really nice texture and not too sweet. All the cookies were huge! I ate half and am taking the rest home. The bartender was nice and it seemed like there was a good vibe among the staff. It was a pleasant experience. The meal came out to $30. The drink ($5) and cookie ($3.5) were pretty reasonably priced, the tacos ($19) may have been a little on the expensive side, but not outlandish for 3 decently-sized tacos.

First time trying this place while waiting for my connection. Simple breakfast but was delicious. Kale and spinach omelette, chicken sausage, toast and hash brown with pineapple juice. Overall very good, and the sever was good though you order the food yourself and they bring it to you. They also have a desert and to go section as well. Yes cost a bit much, but it’s airport food so it’s expected.

Sat down to eat since I had a long layover. Got my food delivered to me in a box with palest ketchup. Apparently here they are too lazy to wash dishes so they serve everything in a Togo container. Super wasteful. Terrible practice. For the force I paid I should at least get a plate. I won’t be back. Awful business practice.

Have visited here several times over the years. Can not stress enough how the quality of the food and service here has rapidly declined over the past couple years. Most recent experience, both staff members at the register ignored myself and another customer while they continued their conversation. While waiting, I noticed that all food is served in to-go containers, regardless if you eat at a table or not. While it's obviously just an airport restaurant, it really does not come close to representing any form of this restaurant concept's actual locations.

Unfortunately the service was pretty terrible for the restaurant having very few customers. It first started with four workers behind the counter with no current customers and no one saying hello or “be right with you”. I waited a few minutes for someone came up to me to take my order. After I placed my to go order I was asked to “stand outside” I tried to sit at a bar stool where no one else was sitting on the outskirts of the restaurants and was yelled at to “wait outside” which meant in the middle of the walkway where people had to walk around me. The food is fine for airport food, but the service after being here a few times was very disappointing.

I think this is the best option at the Chicago airport which isn’t actually saying too much because there aren’t very many good restaurants. This place has some fresh ingredients and I was craving a salad. The vibe is So-Cal, clean and the dishes are too. I got a salad and chips with guacamole and salsa. The portions were generous but the food wasn’t excellent but good. Will probably make this my regular place though given it has the healthiest food around.

Yelp
Airport food places always get a really bad rap for some reason. Honestly I usually love airports and haven't ever had a super terrible meal at any airport. Summer House was definitely a 5 star for me. I was walking towards my gate and noticed this bright spot with beachy vibes, so I stopped to look at the breakfast menu. I saw some healthier sounding options, so I ordered the spinach and kale omelet that comes with toast and crispy hash browns. My order came out quickly (within 10 minutes), I was asked if I needed a bag to carry it with me, and I grabbed some butter and hot sauce that were conveniently located right at the pickup area. There is a nice amount of seating right at Summer House so I found a spot and dug in. The omelet was honestly really good - super hot and fresh, and the eggs were fluffy and not overcooked. I didn't notice a ton of cheese, but it did have cheddar and spinach. I appreciated that the hash browns were actually crispy and nicely seasoned. The toast was multi grain and tasty, and the butter cup was the perfect amount for me (a lot, because I love butter a lot). I'm really happy with this spot and would definitely stop by again. They also have lunch and dinner options - the fish tacos caught my eye.

Yelp
The menu is simple and generally pretty good option at the airport. The service model kind of creates slow service and I hate kicking them but my burger and fries came out cold. And it takes forever to get it bc the server is overworked and not his fault. My recommendation is to order to go so you get the food right away Atmosphere is blase bc it's a high traffic area between terms Worth it for a to go order

Yelp
We were told by an airport store employee that Summer House was the best food option (whether she was referring to the whole airport or just in our proximity...), so we gave it a try. It looked like a nice restaurant when walking by earlier, but there had been a huge crowd and I wondered whether we'd get seated and fed in time for our flight. Well, they seated us immediately. It took a little longer to get our orders in, but the food came in a timely manner and we thought it was very good - definitely for airport food. Pretty limited menu though. I had a basic burger w/cheese and my husband had a chicken sandwich. Each came with a heaping of fries. My husband snarfed the fries, but I just focused on that big ole double cheeseburger (yes, that's the basic one). Paid our check fairly quickly and had plenty of time to catch our flight. Oh, also, our son walked 15 minutes away to get a particular personal sized pizza and it was just $5 cheaper - he said it was "ok". The rating/stars is relative to other airport food.

Yelp
I've been to Mexico and I've been to Spain. I've even seen the great pyramids in Egypt and hands down, these are the greatest tacos I've ever tasted. Beautifully crafted like the great pyramids and artfully sourced ingredients, the sheer genius of these tacos is second to none. I forgot to mention that I got these in the airport and have 0 expectations for airport food. Whoever the chef is here needs to come forward and let me know so that I can personally congratulate him/her on the "world's best taco award".
