The Best Restaurants At O'Hare Airport

"Terminal 2, Main Hall When you want to eat at an actual table and not at a crowded airport gate next to someone whose private business call sounds more like a public speech, Summer House Santa Monica is a solid option. Like its Lincoln Park location, there’s no shortage of string lights and hanging plants. Though their handhelds like chicken sandwiches, burgers, and grilled fish tacos won’t blow your mind, they’re all more reliable than your flight’s estimated time of departure. And if you’re about to be on a long flight and don't want to deal with stale pretzels or suspicious in-flight meatloaf, feel free to order some starters to go like pita and hummus or chips and salsa." - john ringor

Summer House Santa Monica - Review - O'Hare Airport - Chicago - The Infatuation

"When you want to eat at an actual table and not at an airport gate next to a screaming toddler, Summer House Santa Monica is a decent option. Like its Lincoln Park location, string lights and hanging plants decorate the space. Though handhelds like chicken sandwiches, burgers, and grilled fish tacos aren't mindblowing, they’re all more reliable than your flight that's been delayed twice. They also have some starters like pita and hummus or chips and salsa if you want to bring some plane snacks. Located in Terminal 2, Main Hall" - John Ringor

If you’re a fan of the charlotte airport summer house, then this location leaves something to be desired. While they have the highlights of the menu, it’s not the same. Starting with the location doesn’t have a dedicated restaurant space, so you’re sitting amongst the busy traffic of the airport. In charlotte is was real plates and cloth napkins. Here is throw away trays and plastic utensils. I always get the fish tacos, for years, at both locations. They seem smaller portioned on the fish these days, despite the $19.99. Overcooked, but that can depend on who’s cooking. Still decent. For your reference I added photos from today and one from three years ago when I first had the tacos in charlotte (round plate with wine glass). Wish they would get a more restaurant type location in the airport and go back to real plates. For the price point, it’s too fast foodish in Chicago.

We grabbed an Impossible Burger and fries here during a layover, and honestly? I was impressed. The burger came out hot and fast, perfectly cooked, with that just-off-the-grill flavor you don’t expect at an airport. The fries though… eh. They were hot but plain and boring — and if you don’t eat them immediately, forget it. Within a minute the steam builds up in the paper container and they turn soggy. No lie. I tried the apple oatmeal cookie, and it wasn’t quite as good as the one at the Walt Disney Springs location. My favorite cookie there is the peanut butter one with the almost Reese’s-like center — absolutely incredible if you ever get the chance. They don’t serve the French vanilla lattes at this O’Hare spot, which is a bummer. I usually order mine “not too sweet” — I know, ironic after a giant cookie — but I portion those cookies out into 4–6 pieces and freeze them at home so I don’t go overboard. Sadly, this location only has plain coffee. That said, the service was super friendly and fast. They even pointed me toward Starbucks around the corner for a latte (which, sorry, I hate Starbucks — ugh). Overall: if you’re stuck at the airport, it’s a solid stop. For under $30, you’ll get a decent meal and a giant cookie to take on your flight.

This place was amazing and Plamen and Carmen were delightful and homely and so much fun. They have a passion and just treat you so well. Would highly recommend this place if you are ever in O’Hare airport. Keep it up guys and look forward to the next time when I am at O’Hare

I wanted a small treat for breakfast. After wandering around Terminals 2 & 3, I settled on the Apple Oatmeal cookie here. It's a surprisingly big cookie, and decently priced too. Less than $4 if I recall correctly. It had nice big apple chunks and was heavy on the oatmeal, exactly what I wanted! It was very satisfying to nibble on while sitting at my gate.

Food was very good and very filling! We barely had to wait to sit down and the waiter was very nice. Only downsides were the prices and the decorative plants next to the tables were covered in dust which made it a bit uncomfortable. 4☆!!!! Would come again!

The aesthetics of the restaurant is cute and welcoming however, the service and food is quite disappointing. We were sat down and the server went around us and served everyone except us, intentionally. We sat for 10 mins and watched him serve others that came in after us. We finally asked how we could place our order and was told to use the QR code, meanwhile everyone else around us received physical menus. We place our orders and my husband ordered tacos and a few moments later, he was told to order something else because the tortillas were “frozen”. We never received our drinks and then once we received the food, which were burgers, they were cold, including the bread.

Good was pretty good. Service okay, our waiter was kind to our kids. clearly they were a bit overwhelmed with the crush of people from flight delays due to the computer glitch. The fish tacos were good so were the French fries. The shaved Brussel sprout salad was good, could have had a bit more flavor.

Google
First time trying this place while waiting for my connection. Simple breakfast but was delicious. Kale and spinach omelette, chicken sausage, toast and hash brown with pineapple juice. Overall very good, and the sever was good though you order the food yourself and they bring it to you. They also have a desert and to go section as well. Yes cost a bit much, but it’s airport food so it’s expected.

Yelp
Airport food places always get a really bad rap for some reason. Honestly I usually love airports and haven't ever had a super terrible meal at any airport. Summer House was definitely a 5 star for me. I was walking towards my gate and noticed this bright spot with beachy vibes, so I stopped to look at the breakfast menu. I saw some healthier sounding options, so I ordered the spinach and kale omelet that comes with toast and crispy hash browns. My order came out quickly (within 10 minutes), I was asked if I needed a bag to carry it with me, and I grabbed some butter and hot sauce that were conveniently located right at the pickup area. There is a nice amount of seating right at Summer House so I found a spot and dug in. The omelet was honestly really good - super hot and fresh, and the eggs were fluffy and not overcooked. I didn't notice a ton of cheese, but it did have cheddar and spinach. I appreciated that the hash browns were actually crispy and nicely seasoned. The toast was multi grain and tasty, and the butter cup was the perfect amount for me (a lot, because I love butter a lot). I'm really happy with this spot and would definitely stop by again. They also have lunch and dinner options - the fish tacos caught my eye.

Yelp
The menu is simple and generally pretty good option at the airport. The service model kind of creates slow service and I hate kicking them but my burger and fries came out cold. And it takes forever to get it bc the server is overworked and not his fault. My recommendation is to order to go so you get the food right away Atmosphere is blase bc it's a high traffic area between terms Worth it for a to go order

Yelp
We were told by an airport store employee that Summer House was the best food option (whether she was referring to the whole airport or just in our proximity...), so we gave it a try. It looked like a nice restaurant when walking by earlier, but there had been a huge crowd and I wondered whether we'd get seated and fed in time for our flight. Well, they seated us immediately. It took a little longer to get our orders in, but the food came in a timely manner and we thought it was very good - definitely for airport food. Pretty limited menu though. I had a basic burger w/cheese and my husband had a chicken sandwich. Each came with a heaping of fries. My husband snarfed the fries, but I just focused on that big ole double cheeseburger (yes, that's the basic one). Paid our check fairly quickly and had plenty of time to catch our flight. Oh, also, our son walked 15 minutes away to get a particular personal sized pizza and it was just $5 cheaper - he said it was "ok". The rating/stars is relative to other airport food.

Yelp
I've been to Mexico and I've been to Spain. I've even seen the great pyramids in Egypt and hands down, these are the greatest tacos I've ever tasted. Beautifully crafted like the great pyramids and artfully sourced ingredients, the sheer genius of these tacos is second to none. I forgot to mention that I got these in the airport and have 0 expectations for airport food. Whoever the chef is here needs to come forward and let me know so that I can personally congratulate him/her on the "world's best taco award".
