A stunning UNESCO World Heritage Site that reflects the grandeur of China, this location spans vast grounds featuring picturesque lakes, traditional pavilions, and intricately designed bridges. It offers a serene retreat from the bustling city. The views from Longevity Hill and Kunming Lake are breathtaking, especially during sunrise or sunset. Stunning, the entire Park was among the most impressive things I have ever seen. Watching the sunset at the water with views in the palace was absolutely amazing. Climbing the hill and looking at it from all angles is definitely worth it.
Be sure to bring some time, I recommend more than 3 hours because the park is quite big and you don’t want to rush. There weren’t many foreigners so I was catching some stares but everyone was super friendly.

The Summer Palace is an expansive and stunning destination, so be sure to allocate at least 3 to 4 hours to fully explore this incredible site.
We reached the palace easily by subway, getting off at Beigongmen Station. Entering from the north side, we were immediately captivated by the charming Suzhou Street and the serene Suzhou River, which set the tone for the rest of the visit.
Our journey continued with a climb up many steps to the magnificent Tower of Buddhist Incense, offering breathtaking views of the surrounding area. From there, we wandered down to the famous Long Corridor, marveling at its intricate artwork and details.
One of the highlights was the ferry tour on Kunming Lake, which provided a unique perspective of the palace grounds. The ferry even stops at the iconic Marco Polo Bridge, a picturesque spot that’s worth exploring.
For our final adventure, we climbed to the top of the Tower of Incense, where we were rewarded with an incredible panoramic view of Kunming Lake and the surrounding landscape.
The Summer Palace is truly a masterpiece of natural beauty and cultural heritage. Whether you’re soaking in the scenery, admiring the historical architecture, or simply enjoying the tranquil atmosphere, this place is a must-visit when in Beijing.

A wonderful place to visit in during sunrise / sunset, our group was here at sunset during a perfectly clear day so we had the perfect golden sunset falling behind the mountains. The glow lit the palace and water superbly. This a a really large, scenic area, well maintained buildings with gorgeous garden areas, it can get very crowded, especially on the waterfront… be careful of the mosquitoes.

Summer Palace is a wonderful escape from busy Beijing. It was an imperial garden during the Qing Dynasty. It covers 2.9 square kilometres and includes Longevity Hill, Kunming Lake and Seventeen Hole Bridge. The Palace contains over 3000 ancient Chinese buildings that house over 40,000 valuable historical relics from various Dynasties. This UNESCO Heritage Site is breathtaking. It’s so calming that the visitors were quiet and respectful. The place is absolutely huge so there’s a lot of walking 🚶 involved. So wear comfortable shoes 👟. You basically need a full day to get to see everything. Just take your time and enjoy the tranquility of the place. The Palace has amazing gardens, pavilions and the gorgeous Kunming Lake. The location is stunning. So peaceful and tranquil. I think it has to be one of the most beautiful Palaces I have seen. The lake helps create such a relaxing atmosphere. The paintings inside were so beautiful. There are two metro stations near the palace so you can get there by public transportation. I would definitely recommend visiting. A huge Thumbs Up from me!!! 😊👍😊👍

Such a beautiful UNESCO heritage site not to be missed if you are in Beijing. Lots of ig worthy spots and more importantly, the place itself is very clean and well maintained. We enjoyed taking photos, walking and of course enjoying the snacks of sausages and drinks while inside this historical site.

A great place to take a walk even during winter time. The place is huge, therefore a lot of walking should be expected. A nice view of the surrounding landscape when you reach the top of hills. Some areas were more crowded than others.
