The Best Ramen Restaurants in Montreal | Eater Montreal

"This ramen haunt is hardly the only place to nestle up with a bowl of satisfying broth and noodles in Chinatown, but it is well-known for its heft of options. They include everything from the staple pork belly and chicken to vegan salmon and leek." - Valerie Silva

The appetizer items (takoyaki, gyoza and fried shrimp dumplings) we're excellent, the soup was pretty good but overall basic. The ramen egg was a bit overdone. It was still a good place to eat, I would try it again. The service was amazing and very attentive!

Google
Sumo Ramen Located in a hart of Chineese District close to Old Montreal. A very busy location with fast friendly service. Ramen can fill you up and warm you in cold wintery days. Very tasty spicy beef Ramen... But if they say spicy...it's REALLY spicy!. Very nice experience

Dantas

Google
Awful place, the beef was very bad, took a few bites but It was just not edible to the point of having to spit it out. The soup was not good, the noodles tasted weird and at least the dumplings were okay but tasted exactly like costco dumplings (also 6 for $8 damn), their menu on the table don’t even have prices. Server had an attitude because we sat ourselves (we waited a couple minutes at the door and there was literally no one and no sign to wait to be seated). Anyway, had to leave half of the food because the flavor of it was just not good. Would not come back. Edit: few hours passed, me and my friend started feeling sick because of this food.

Google
I tried the ramen goberge. The broth was good and ingredients but I do find the ramen lacked flavour dept. I know some customers enjoy the taste and finds it flavourful enough, so it is a good ramen spot for someone who likes the taste. The service was impeccable same for atmosphere

Google
Ramen restaurant in the heart of Montreal’s chinatown. The ramen broth was ok, the soup was not as thick as what I’m used to. The noodles were like instant noodles texture. However, the beef was delicious! It wasn’t the typical ramen meat but more of a Chinese style. The place felt a bit cramped, also there was no AC.

TGB

Google
The restaurant seats are pretty narrow, and it feels more like a simple quick place for food. Ramen isn’t the best in town but has multiple side dishes and snacks. The servers are friendly but we had quite a wait to get our food.

Google
The entrance is steeep but the food came out pretty fast around 1pm. The spicy beef had a good amount of beef pieces and the spice definitely had a kick. The miso also had a nice flavor , would recommend for a quick bite.

Google
Really great! Loved the food, especially the karaage. Really nice staff, got all our orders right and even remembered all of them (we were a party of 8). Cant wait to go back!

Yelp
Found this via yelp. It was close to my hotel in Chinatown and was very low key and chill which is what I was looking for with my luggage. The menu comes on a tablet and you can click through to see the individual pages and items. I have had ramen before but I'm also not too knowledgeable about it so I went with the classic soup with sliced pork and a water. The food comes out very fast. The soup was pretty tasty and hot but not too hot to not enjoy right away. The staff speaks English, if you're like me and ask before ordering. You can pay via cash or card.

Yelp
Delicious Ramen. The miso vegetarian broth was super flavorful and delicious. The udon was nice and firm and chewy, just how i love my udon ramen. The portion was generous, and filled us up. The staff is very courteous and friendly. The price range for the ramen bowl was affordable as well. Cute spot, great for family. They have cute souvenirs. For purchase by the payment counter as well! The sake was delicious, and if you can not finish it, you can take it home as well. Great find!

Yelp
I appreciate this place so much. The little ones have some food allergies and they were able to accommodate them. On top of that, it's some of the best ramen I've ever had! Definitely going back.

Yelp
They have lots of vegetarian ramen options, which can easily be made vegan, so that got me in the door. I ordered the imperial rolls (2 spring rolls; $3.50 plus tax), and the miso vegetable ramen with assorted veggies ($16.50 plus tax). The spring rolls came out within a few minutes, and the ramen came out within 10 minutes. The spring rolls were pretty lame -- mostly batter, with little filling, which was mostly cabbage. I wouldn't order these again. 2/5 The ramen was pretty decent. Their regular ramen noodles contain egg, so I got mine with thin rice noodles. The soup came with a nice variety of veggies, including green cabbage, bok choy, seaweed, corn, and carrots, and a drizzle of green onion. The noodles were generously portioned and cooked well. The broth -- the centrepiece of any ramen -- was OK, with a fairly salty miso base, but not the flavour complexity of a superior veggie ramen. It was tasty, just nothing special. 3/5 Go to Umami for truly excellent vegan ramens. This place is just solid. A decent spot.

Yelp
Sumo was great. Johnson was are waiter and he was super nice and patient with us. We had never been there before but will go back at first chance. Both was flavorful and toppings were yummy. I love a good restaurant you climb a little staircase to get to.

Serge Simon L.

Yelp
Although the quality of the food is respectable, be mindful of your final bill. I have noticed that on a number of occasions the price of items is higher than what is posted on the menu. Since this has occurred repeatedly, il can only assume it is with the knowledge of the business owners. Very disappointing.

Yelp
Very good! Took family of 4 with 2 teens. Everyone enjoyed! food was very tasty and every bowl was filling!

Yelp
Haven't had a bowl of ramen that I didn't even finish half of in a while. The noodles were too thin and not chewy or consistent enough. The spicy shoyu broth was not thick enough for my taste. I didn't even finish the chashu (which NEVER happens) because more than half of it was fat. Only the egg was somewhat enjoyable. The food was 1/5, I'll add 1 star for the service which was not bad and relatively fast. The price is pretty standard for ramen. Note: only debit and cash accepted.

Yelp
As a traveler, I always try to explore Chinatown when I can. This place was all and all just okay. It was on the second level so you have to walk up 10 stairs or so to get seated in a pretty small establishment. The menu was simple, which I prefer. I'll be honest though, I was expecting more from the gyoza. The flavor was a little underwhelming. On the other hand, the Sumo Ramen with the peppered broth was really good and the pork wasn't bad as well.

Yelp
Im a bit on the edge about this place. I want to give it a 4 stars for only 1 item that we've ordered here. The spicy beef stew ramen my gf ordered(upgraded to udon noodles) I ordered the shrimp ramen (upgraded to udon) and my bf ordered the mini sumo ramen (pork based) We also ordered kimchi which was nice as a side dish for the ramen soup. I tasted my order which was the shrimp ramen, it was ok... but the soup didnt have a shrimpy taste, it was pork based broth. They could of at least gave me chicken because i dont eat pork. When something smells a bit gamey to me, its a complete turn off. So i tasted my gf's spicy beef stew , that broth was perfectly seasoned. Just enough spice, salty, and beefy. We end up switching. I finished my soup within a couple minutes. The beef, the shrimp, the flavor of that specific broth, the beef pieces, and the spice was completely delicious. The bean sprout added the crunch factor which was tasty. The kimchi helped enhance the flavor a bit with more spice and sweetness from the Cabbage. Be ware if u dont like onions, there are lots of onions in the kimchi and some in the broth of their soup. I wana give it a 4/5 only becuz of the beef stew, other than that, overall its a 3.5/5 Very basic ramen place. I would come here again for the spicy beef stew broth . Good job impressing me Sumo Ramen. Montréal has you as a hidden gem in China town.

Yelp
This is the third ramen shop I've ever visited, so read this as a ramen newbie review. It didn't beat the one in Calgary, but best in Montreal. A lot of options and we went with spicy pork and a shrimp ramen dish. Both were very tasty and well balanced in texture of ingredients. Would eat here again easily. It was late, but the place was packed so it's a good sign. Pictures posted

Yelp
This place is located on the second floor on the Main Street in China town. My sister and I shared a porc ramen bowl, a takoyaki plate, and some edamame. All were okay in taste. We sat by the window so we had a nice view of St-Laurent. Prices were was fair and staff was friendly!

Yelp
Amazing prices and great ramen!! I ordered the volcano ramen as is and it was really tasty. So much food for such a low price! The food is super tasty and the prices can't be beat. I stopped by here on a Tuesday night and it was still bustling. I can imagine that it gets very crowded on the weekend. They accept credit cards (not Amex) and there's an ATM if you need to grab cash. This place is located at the far end of Chinatown and up a staircase lined with Christmas lights. I highly recommend if you like ramen and are in the area!

Yelp
I've avoided this ramen place for 4 years because of the mediocre reviews and i'm not gonna have mediocre ramen. However, as part of my mission to try all the ramen in Montreal, I decided to give this place a shot. It's got an old school vibe with menus under the table glass, fans blowing, and oddball decor. I got the chashu ramen with the shoyu broth and udon noodles. The portions sizes were big, and the meat pieces were cut real thiccc. I understand why there are some complaints about the noodles, they use somen noodles for their ramen and that gets soggy fast. So i would recommend the udon. Also, the broth was mediocre in terms of flavour, but it was mild enough to drink. One of my biggest ramen concerns is too salty broth so I did enjoy this one. We also got deep friend cuttlefish tentacles as a side. It was a large portion, but it was also mostly batter. Anyways, the food is not amazing but the prices are good and I would probably go there again to try their other sides. They've got an eel rice set too, which I have been craving. Great spot to grab a quick meal and not spend too much!

Yelp
Sumo Ramen is a solid, cozy ramen spot. My boyfriend and I came to Sumo Ramen on a snowy November night, craving some warm broth and hearty noodles. We were seated promptly, and ordered the shrimp dumplings to share. The dumpling broth was incredibly rich, and I could tell that they used bone broth, probably steeped for a long time. The shrimp dumplings themselves were large and meaty, with a tender wonton wrap that wasn't too doughy. For our entrees, I ordered the Volcano Ramen (ground pork, seaweed, and a soft-boiled egg), while he ordered the Spicy Beef Ramen (pretty much the same thing but spicy beef chunks instead of ground pork). Both of these ramens were designated "spicy" on the menu. At Sumo Ramen, you can customize your broth base (we both chose pepper, but you can choose between pepper, shoyu, or miso), and your noodle texture (ramen, udon, or vermicelli). Both ramen broths were so savory and rich; while it was a little on the salty side, this ramen broth was probably one of the heartiest broths I've tried. The spice level was perfect, and added a nice kick to the savory broth. The egg was deliciously tender and well-seasoned, a wonderful complement to the rest of the dish. I do wish their noodles were a little thicker / more ramen-like consistency, because they were on the skinnier side and might have been cooked a tad too long. Nonetheless, a satisfying and delicious dinner! I would absolutely recommend Sumo Ramen and hope to be back next time I visit Montreal.

Yelp
I took the spicy ramen mmmm feel so good in a freeze day. Crowdy place, good service.

Yelp
I was exploring Old Montreal and saw the yellow brick rooftop that read 'SUMO RAMEN' in black letters. It let me to discover chinatown montreal, and my and my girlfriend fell in love with the district. After some shopping we headed to the restaurant for a bite to eat, and conveineantly placed is a menu by the front door. I picked out the Ramen Miso with shrimp wonton, and my girlfriend had the chicken miso ramen. The portion was massive, and very hearty. The waitress, and waiter were extremely kind, and topped up our water consistently. Very affordable, and the leftovers were great too. I wish I had more time in my trip to try something else on the menu. Next time!!! 5/5 stars. Sidenote, there are a decent amount of stairs leading up, and if I recall correctly not wheelchair accessible. But skipthedishes is available.

Audrey L.

Yelp
Meh, it wasn't bad, nor really good I was more impressed by my sides than my ramen. Too small and again half an egg. Why? Why skimp half an egg? It was an ok bowl. I was more impressed by the takoyaki.

Yelp
Awesome place ! Quick service and very affordable, the atmosphere is so cool and friendly ! A cozy ramen spot ! Super options, great service and very clean. If you are looking for a great experience with ramens it is a perfect place.

Yelp
We've been here a few times, but tonight was the best food we've been served over the years. It was exceptionally busy tonight and the food honestly tasted a lot fresher and tastier. The wait was worth it. The gyozas were perfectly crispy and the okonomyake was flashy and delicious. Our ramen soups were the Volcano Ramen and the Ragout Beef.m with shoyu broth was stupendous. They made it extra spicy for me. Although not the most consistent restaurant but tonight they blew us away.

Yelp
It was our first night in Montreal and my sister and I needed a warm and filling meal. We decided on Sumo Ramen based on its proximity to our hotel. The service was good and so was the ramen. Both my sister and I got the mini pork sumo ramen and added nature. I chose the pepper broth and my sister chose the miso broth. As I stated my ramen was good and the pork was tender and savory. My sisters ramen was good but cold and we had to send it back. Overall a satisfactory place, decent price, for a warm meal on a chilly Montreal night.
google avatar

Don P.

Yelp
If you are looking for a good ramen noodle experience in Montreal's Chinatown, I highly recommend Sumo Ramen. I had the wanton ramen in spicy hot pepper broth which I found flavorful and absolutely satisfying. The Imperial Rolls were quite good as was the dipping sauce they were served with. I wouldn't hesitate to return and try some of their other menu selections on a future visit to Montreal.
google avatar

HanDan W.

Yelp
Ordinary miso soup based pork ramen. The soup base was good but the pork contains too much fatty part and taste a little gamey.
google avatar

Mai Lynn L.

Yelp
I ordered the cold ramen with shrimps and a plate of scallops. Both of my plates were drowning in soy sauce. The cold ramen was disappointing. It was a weird assortment as they mixed the noodles with half of a boiled egg, sliced tomatoes (why?), cucumbers, oshinko(japanese radish), a small amount of fake crabs and shrimps, which by the way were tasteless. It felt and tasted very cheap.

Yelp
Best ramen I had in a while! :) Excellent choice of meal, fresh, tasty, nice size... must try at least once.

Yelp
While this wasn't the best ramen that I've ever had, Sumo Ramen definitely deserves major props for being one of the only restaurants to be open for lunch on Christmas Eve in Montreal. After getting turned away by at least a dozen other restaurants, my family and I were more than grateful that we finally stumbled upon this little ramen place that was actually open (Pro Tip: don't trust Open Table when booking reservations in Montreal--we made so many reservations at places that were supposedly open, but in actuality, were not GRRR). I ordered the Kimchi Ramen, which was definitely tasty, but not mind-blowing, like ramen I've had at some other places. I got the combo, which included a soft drink and a side--the takoyaki octopus balls--but was still hungry after. I definitely thought the portions could have been bigger. The flavor was definitely there in the soup, but the ramen itself could have been tastier. While my ramen was good, my brother's Volcano Poutine was better. The fries were crunchy and flavorful on their own, so when topped with the gravy, seaweed, Sriracha and cheese, they only became better. I was skeptical about how good an Asian-inspired poutine could be, but I shouldn't have been, because it was delicious. I was definitely initially deterred from coming to Sumo Ramen because of the 3-star rating, but I'm glad my family and I stopped by for lunch on Christmas Eve. Thanks again for actually being open and for feeding this lot of ravenous Asians, Sumo Ramen!

Yelp
Sumo Ramen is some damn fine buttery ramen and izakaya with a convenient location to boot. Seriously, I could have eaten here at least three more times during my one week stay this year in Montreal. Every morning, I would wake up craving Sumo's delicate creamy broth. Drinking it up with the large ladle they provide makes the entire experience even more amuzing. Upgrade to the shio ramen and you will thank me later. Me personally, in the future I am saying yes to corn and no to bean sprouts. I believe the owners are from Hong Kong, however this is some mighty fine Japanese style ramen! The izakaya dishes are also praise worthy, rivaling even some of the most popular Manhattan 8th Street establishments in my book. The Takoyaki was absoulutely perfect in every way, even the inside was cooked to perfection. They also even serve bubble tea of the milky variety. I don't think that they will make it into a smoothy for you, so don't even bother with that one. We arrived so early that the boba was not even ready yet, so I went with a large frothy taro sans boba.
google avatar

Erika G.

Yelp
Solid ramen. Nice portion size. A busy, cozy restaurant. The ramen was delicious, as were the cocktails. Also, the rice balls, which my companion ordered, and I'd never had - UMAMI HEAVEN. Really tasty. Inexpensive, tasty and lively - in Montreal's somewhat small Chinatown. Worth a visit if you are craving Ramen, and I was.!
google avatar

Ruoshi Z.

Yelp
I was expecting hand made ramen as they advertised, at least implied, but no, its the dry noodle from Chinese market. Not even udo! That is like serving walmart's one dollar pizza at an "authentic" looking Italian restaurant. I also ordered kimchi, guess what, the kimchi is at least a month old. Does not have flavor and sour in an old way. Normally, the koreans like the kimchi a bit sour, thats one week sour. If you keep kimchi in you fridge for more than a month, it ferments too much and become fermented sour. A verdict? Do not recommend. BTW i am an asian and i know what i am talking about and i believe you deserve something better.

Yelp
Sumo Ramen. Should have went with ramen? Since my friends were trying the ramen, I went with the beef curry. Big disappointment. It did not taste like Japanese curry I've had elsewhere. It was just yellow gravy with a tad of spiciness. The slices of beef did not help either. It didn't look like the picture on the menu. The ramen noodles do not look like authentic ramen, more like Chinese noodles. We also had the okonomiyaki. There was no description, but it taste like takoyaki in pancake form, a little bit of octopus. They also offered bubble tea. I don't think that's Japanese. As some other yelpers have mentioned, this is probably a Chinese-own establishment. The service was a little slow. It took a while for the waitress to take our orders.
google avatar

Bunny E.

Yelp
Sumo Ramen was a pretty good experience- I had never been to a place that sold solely ramen until I went there. The server was very nice and friendly. He made suggestions for appetizers. We decided on octopus balls. I've never had those either until then. They were pretty good! The ramen is also very good. It was a bit blend for me but they do have sauces on the table for extra taste to it.

Yelp
We've had ramen in Shanghai, Singapore, Hong Kong and Szechuan province and Sumo Ramen ranks among the best authentic Chinese ramen we've ever had. This is China Town's hidden gem with a bountiful selection with very fresh ingredients and authentic recipes. We were amazed and that never happens. Try the beef ramen, it's incredible. The dumplings are hand made, very light and crispy. Everything was clearly made from very fresh ingredients. It's a cozy spot, casual and warm, the staff is nice but it can get busy. Expect a crowd, but the service is always fast and hot. The prices were surprisingly reasonable given the fare. The only downside is with parking. There's a paid lot practically next door but they will gouge you. Street parking is always a gamble. Still, for the meal you can expect, it's worth the extra hassle. Enjoy!

Yelp
ATMOSPHERE: It's a little restaurant on a second floor that can only be noticed if you really pay attention to the signs outside. The inside is on the smaller side. There are a few anime posters hanging on one side but that's really the only decor the restaurant offers. FOOD: I personally like the food here. I usually order the fried chicken ramen (the chicken comes on the side) and I really enjoy it. The broth isn't too salty and the noodles are nice and tender. I also usually get the takoyaki (octopus balls) and those are decent as well. PRICE: Prices aren't bad, especially for the large portions you'll be getting. I do find their price for takoyaki a little expensive but their prices for ramen are affordable. SERVICE: A-okay, the staff do what they're supposed to do.
google avatar

Yelp
Me and my friend were visiting Montreal and were craving some ramen before heading back to Toronto. The interior of the restaurant was beautifully decorated and had a nice comfy feeling when seated. We ordered some Ramen and Chicken Karaage for lunch and were not disappointed! One of the best ramen bowls I've ever had! The soup, noodles and pork were so good! We also added an egg which was also tasty! And finally for dessert we ordered the green tea mochi ice cream which came out looking super fancy. It was delicious as well! I would highly recommend this place if you are craving ramen and in the area.
google avatar

Christine U.

Yelp
This is one of the closest ramen places to my apartment so I come here sometimes when I have ramen cravings. The restaurant is up some tall-ish stairs off the street so you have to lookout for the sign outside. It's generally not very busy inside and the service is pretty fast. I've gotten ramen from here to-go and not to-go. The ramen broth and noodles are good and. I generally get the miso broth which is nice and salty. I've had the kimchi ramen which adds a nice kick. The main issue is that the chasu pork is super dry and lacks flavor. I keep forgetting this and ordering it, but I want to try their other meats in hopes that they will be better. Last time I was here my husband and I split some pork baos. We were skeptical because they seemed expensive (they were presented as a meal, but we split them in addition to our ramen) and they were actually huge and pretty good.
google avatar

Mike H.

Yelp
Sumo Ramen, attracted me while walking down St Laurent, by the cute little logo they had on the sign outside. I decided to give it a try one day and I was pleasantly surprised to say the least. The ramen isn't really authentic Japanese ramen, but rather a fusion with Chinese food. They also have a number of side dishes and appetizers to try as well including popcorn friend chicken, which is one of my favourites. The ramen itself is pretty well made and they have multiple options for types of broth and toppings. The food comes out super quick and the servers are very nice and constantly come to fill up your drinks. I would say the ramen noodles are similar to what you would get at your standard bubble tea shop, but with better toppings and broth. The price is also very cheap, so it's not going to hurt the pocket by any means. I'll definitely be dropping by again when I'm around the Montreal Chinatown!

Neel L.

Yelp
If you're looking for some quick ramen and are in Chinatown, this is a good option. However, I do think that the food is just about average and there are better ramen spots out there. I personally really do like their fried chicken ramen (chicken comes on the side) but the flavors aren't mind blowing. This is definitely somewhere I'll come back to just to try their other menu options since it's comforting but it's not anything too special!

Yelp
A real bright gem for Japanese ex pats and likes in the heart of Chinatown. Having moved here from Japan so many years ago, I yearn for a real Japanese food even more every year. This joint filled that void in me. A real ramen joint in Montreal? It can't be true! (oh yes, it's true!) Menu included 7 or 8 kinds of ramen which you can choose soup base from miso or soy sauce. Gyudon (beef bowl), Unadon (eel bowl), Curry rice, etc, all the right menus at right price points. I was a bit skeptical of its authenticity at first, given the Chinatown location, but I was proven dead wrong. I had a Kazan ramen and gyoza. Mmm. gyoza! Gyoza is wonderful, every living men in Japan loves them, and it can put people ecstatic state if they taste good. Sumo restaurant hit homerun for me. First off, where else in Montreal, can you find a handmade gyoza that are grilled in a right way with pari-pari (thin sheet of gyoza skin) on top? Knowing how much easier to serve you a frozen gyoza for a restaurant, these guys are serious about the gyozas and it shows in the flavor. The ramen was wonderful - having had ramen in other resto on St. Laurent in upper Main, sorry but there is no comparison. As a ramen junky, I loved the selection of ramens and I think it's so cool to have a real Chinese addition to the menu. You can choose to add selective toppings much like the restos in Japan. The soup tasted great and I definitely think that it was adapted well for customer base in Montreal, not to say that it was bad, but to assure that this restaurant is serious about staying in business as well. Yes, I am totally impressed with the food and I am thrilled even more that there is a restaurant who cares and respect a very popular type of Japanese food, most appreciated by ordinary people. One of the staff there told me as I was paying after the meal, the chef was a Chinese but spent 7-8 years in Tokyo food business. Makes a complete sense and I want to applaud him for having the gut and resource to pull this off. Having this restaurant in Montreal definitely makes my homesick a lot easier to deal with. So if you are a Japanese ex pat, you should definitely go there and enjoy the gyoza and the ramen. if you want to experience a definitely most popular type of food in Japan, you should go there too. Nothing can bring down my happiness about this restaurant, but because I was so impressed with this restaurant, I would like to offer a few points of my wish list to make this joint a KING of ramen in North America: - soy sauce, vinegar and hot oil at every table for customers who would like to make their own gyoza dipping sauce. - porc on top of the ramen could be lot more fattier and it would be perfect if it can be lightly blackened on the surface like in Tokyo - I would love to see a ramen with gyofun (ground dried fish) or katsuobushi (bonito frake), which is becoming sooo popular in Japan - Tsukemen (noodle served in a separate bowl and a dipping sauce) would be also awesome - Use of Korean bread crumb (larger frakes), not western bred crumb (almost like corn meal) for fried shrimp and scallop would make it even more authentic

Yelp
I'm always on the hunt for delicious Japanese foodz, whether it's in my home cities - Boston and Montreal or when I'm on a day trip to New York City, or touring through the West Coast; though I'm quite satisfied with my sushi and yakitori finds, I always felt a lack of great ramen-ness in my Japanese food experience. Though I cannot comment on its authenticity, since I don't consider myself a ramen expert. A bowl of sizzling hot and spicy volcano ramen at Sumo is delicious and satisfying. The menu is comprised picking your choice of noodle, soup and then 'toppings'. I took the volcano soup (spiciest on the menu, naturally) with ground pork, topped with scallions and seaweed, and being Chinese, I committed the sin of taking Chinese noodles in ramen. I love the flavor of the broth, intense but not overly rich and the perfect spiciness is numbing and warms the heart (perfect for a winter day in Montreal). The noodles are delicious, perfect texture and consistency. I quickly gobbled down the whole (giant) bowl of noodles. I thought the ramen prices were reasonable, but other appetizers (i.e. yakitori) seems rather expensive for the portions. Overall, it was a yummy experience for me and I'll be back for more.

Yelp
Great ramen in Montreal! Order tofu ramen with vegetarian miso broth and it was quite the delight!! My husband throughly enjoyed his mushroom ramen and the octopus balls!! In addition, we enjoyed this meal with a Taro bubble tea, yummy!!

Marina D.

Yelp
Love this place so much! It's still my favourite after years of trying different ramen places in Montreal. The vegetable gyozas are delicious! And the veggie ramens.. yum! (I prefer without the mock-meats though)

Yelp
Place is sometimes crowded/feels impersonal. Ramen was good but then again I am not a connaisseur. The ramen with chicken bites was original and delicious, same for the won ton ramen. The service can be lacking sometimes though, perhaps due to the crowdiness of the resto.

Patrick E.

Yelp
Service was mediocre here and so was the Mini Sumo Ramen. The pork and the noodles were cooked nicely. The broth was somewhat flavorful but nothing extraordinary. The kimchi here was horrible. There was no sour or spicy taste to it. It was like a napa cabbage salad with red vinaigrette. My friend ordered the shrimp ramen with udon and was disappointed by the broth as well claiming it had a generic chicken taste to it. My other friend ordered the Spicy Beef Stew Ramen and swore by it. She finished every last drop and she normally hates broth. I think there are better Ramen options in Montreal; but if you stop by, get the Spicy Beef Stew Ramen.

Yelp
Reviewing on first impressions is rarely a good idea and it would have not been any different for Sumo Ramen. Tonight was maybe my 8th or 9th visit in 2 years at this joint. The place, unfortunately, has been degrading for some time. It started several months back with the level of spiciness on the Volcano Ramen revised to barely spicy, then tonight, no more beer in the fridge. With some cold appetizers sent back, the food has not been at its best, the attitude went down and overall the experience is suffering. From difficult times maybe or just lazy management, I think they can do better.

Yelp
Spicy beef ramen from sumo ramen is one of my favorite montreal Chinatown noodles. For some people it may be to spicy but you can always ask them to put less.

Yelp
Considering the reviews, I was expecting more. Not authentically Japanese - Japanese/Chinese with the ability to select fusion combination bowls of noodles and noodle types. Located upstairs, not too big and was still able to accommodate large groups. About 15 minutes before they took my order was even acknowledged after being seated. Food came fairly quickly. Strange gyoza without the sides being sealed and definitely "limp". Contents partially falls out as you dip into the sauce. For my volcano ramen with pork broth, meat pieces are way too small to eat together with the noodles (normally meat is sliced thinly) so had to use the spoon (noodle experts know we slurp the noodles and not have to use the spoon) yet still flavourful. Not the true egg one gets in an authentic noodle house. Spoon was too big and awkward. Cash/debit only. You pay on the way out and that server was incredibly polite. At least here, I was not looked down on for speaking English and not French.

Yelp
Favorite ramen place in Montreal! A lot of vegetarian options and very friendly staff! I would highly recommend this place as it is not to pricey as well. I have went several times and i was never disappointed

Yelp
Are you a fan of 80's Hong Kong action films? I sure am. What I like the most about them is without a doubt the fact that they kick ASS. Wanna know what else kicks as much (if more) ass? This god damn joint. I ordered ramen with grilled chicken. It came under 10 minutes. The service was quick and professional. The food itself is GREAT. The ramen were delicious and the bouillon was so creamy and tasty that I almost felt like slurping the bowl. The chicken was also good. well-cooked and well-seasoned. If you're looking for a good ramen spot in chinatown, look no further, friends.

Yelp
This restaurant is perfect for a quick lunch or to meet up with friends. They have a nice ramen selection and boy it's good. I like that they have a good choice of starters, takoyaki is my favorite. The ramen broth was delicious and filling. Definitely worth a visit if you're looking for inexpensive lunch place.

Yelp
We tried Pork bone ramen & Miso ramen. But both of these were extremely bad. They had no flavour, lacking taste. If you are Japanese, you don't have to go there. We are Japanese and also we brought friend who is Canadian is from Toronto. We had been so many ramen places in Canada but we've never had this experience. Just I wanna tell you this restaurant is so bad. I don't wanna go there anymore.
