"Grab one of the famous salted margarita mugs and dig into the “Myrtle Mex” menu at this locals’ favorite on Main Street in downtown Myrtle Beach. A must is any of the burritos smeared with smashed potatoes, then rolled in its cheese sauce, and salsa prepared daily, then baked in the oven." - Ashley Daniels

1 billion stars to Sun City Cafe!!!! The food was amazing and very generous portions. You 100% get more than what you pay for. All the food is indescribably delicious. Very unique what they are doing here, please go check them out. The atmosphere is 10/10 for me. Even the bathroom is cool (totally forgot to take a bathroom selfie) And the service was top notch too. I’m going to go ahead and say this is one of my favorite places in Myrtle beach!

Finally made it in to eat. We've been here for three years and walk by often early in the day before they are open. Today we had the pleasure of dining here. The decor is super cool and has a whole vibe of its own. We had the cheese dip and tacos. The rice is amazing. The portions are huge and the service is like being at home with family (a family you want to be around to be clear). Highly recommend stopping in here. Now I know why this is one of Myrtle Beach's local treasures.

Google
We were here for a baseball tournament and got so lucky to find this place. The food (both the appetizers and the main courses) was amazing ... the portions were huge and the service was great. Highly recommend it if you're in the area!

Google
Very eclectic and warm decor. The food was amazing. All were made fresh, and the presentation was appealing to the eye. I had the guacamole and the Vegan tacos. Deliciously satisfying. I highly recommend this cute little place for fellow vegans and omnivores as well.

Google
Best Mexican in Myrtle Beach! Hands down. A short walk from the board walk/beach. Homemade, fresh, family run for 25+ years! They have gluten free and vegan options and my husband said his chicken was awesome. Slow roasted for hours to tender perfection. This place is a must.

Google
Loved the food and service at this place. The Gauc was made from overripe avocadoe but the owner was happy to remake it because we didn’t like it. The shrip tacos were huge and best I have had in Myrtle Beach.

Samantha Sneed

Google
The food was delicious and the wait staff were kind. It is a low key, laid back and quirky place. Awesome decor. We shared a burrito and it was topped with amazingly fresh vegetables (no, really) and we basically licked the plate clean. Huge portioning.

Google
A cute place with a nice ambiance. Great to hang out, eat good food and have drinks. Large portions. Just be mindful that it is a Myrtle-Mexican, with the owners’ interpretive twist on Mexican cuisine :)

Yelp
I live in Myrtle Beach and this is my favorite restaurant. GREAT service. Big portions of delicious Myrtle Mex food. My wife and I split a quesadilla, a guacamole, a cheese dip and wash it down with a margarita and go home full and happy.

Yelp
Fantastic! We met some friends for dinner and were floored with how delicious the food was at Sun City along with the portion sizes and freshness -- they hit all the marks! Our meals were so large we were able to eat leftovers 2 more times. My parents also shared the leftovers and enjoyed them so much, they've already been there themselves a couple of times. The queso was delicious -- I highly recommend it along with the Sun City Chicken. The ambiance is quirky and eclectic. If you don't have anything to talk about, the walls of this place will provide plenty of conversation starters.

Yelp
Incredible food, fun atmosphere and friendly staff that make you feel at home. After visiting Myrtle Beach for years we grew tired of the same old chain restaurants and sought out local dining options. We hit the jackpot with Sun City. I had the amazing chicken taco which you might think is fairly boring fare but I was blown away by the slow braised chicken! Totally took me by surprise! All the toppings, sides, even our guacamole has fresh ingredients and wonderful seasonings. The portions are SUBSTANTIAL so plan to take your leftovers home! I'm enjoying mine as I write this and relive a really lovely evening at Sun City. Thanks Tracy & Cary!

Mark C.

Yelp
Another hidden gem! How did I miss this place for so many years? Well I'm glad we stopped. A quaint and offbeat way to serve Mexican dishes. Our meals had a plethora of flavors with each bite. The portions are huge so be prepared to take some home. First time my wife actually ate leftovers the next day. Ask for the spicy salsa! The service was fantastic. We never had to wait for a refill on the salsa or the Cervezas!

Mike W.

Yelp
My father-in-law took us on a little trek away from the main ocean boulevard/boardwalk area, to this cute little local spot for dinner. The staff were so kind and the food was amazing and super fresh. Phenomenal Tex Mex style dishes. The shrimp dip is a must have -- one of the best dip apps I've ever had honestly. The salsas are some of the best as well (the spicy tomatillo-verde one is out of this world!) The burritos are some of the biggest I've probably ever seen (he ordered one and I was slightly jealous, no lie, but my eyes were definitely bigger than my stomach). And the vegetarian/vegan options were great as well. I had the vegan tacos, which may as well have been a burrito also. You definitely get your money's worth portion-wise here.

Diana G.

Yelp
Greeted with crispy tortilla chips and fresh salsa, Drinks served quickly, cheese dip was creamy and so yummy. The Chicken Burrito is massive flavorful and definitely not what we expected. The slow brined chicken is fantastic. Both Servers were super sweet and kind. The place is small and has an older vibe, 80s music playing which I loved. Mostly locals dining.

Adam C.

Yelp
Jamie Broadhurst, a local personality, had been talking about this place for years, so my family decided to give it a shot. We were the first seated. The waitress was very accommodating; she spoke well to the menu and was attentive to keeping the chip and salsa bowls filled. The kids ordered "build your own taco" and cheese dip, my wife ordered black bean tacos, and I ordered the potato burrito. We ordered a small guacamole for the table, and it was fantastic. The potatoe burrito was stuffed with a mashed potato/black bean/tomato mixture and topped with a spinach queso and lettuce, limes, radishes, and sour cream. If being a vegetarian meant I could eat this every meal, I might consider it. All in all, great food and service in what is definitely a local dive.

John W.

Yelp
This was such a treat! My sister-in-law found this spot and we caught a ride share on the first day of our first time in Myrtle Beach. This is a small spot with fun decor and a family ran attention to customers. The service was fun, friendly, and attentive. The food was quite a surprise. We ordered guacamole which came out in a way that I've never seen before but which was also wonderful in ways I wouldn't have expected. It was perhaps a deconstructed guacamole? The fresh chopped ingredients were arranged in a way that was pleasing upon presentation and wonderful to eat at the same time. Kudos! We were warned about the size of some of the dishes we ordered and they weren't kidding. We ended up with lots of leftovers which we continued to enjoy over the next day or two. If you enjoy this cuisine and like having fun and friendly service, I would highly recommend this place. We'll be sure to go back when we're in the area again as this is one of those places that I'd hate to miss when opportunity arrises.

Bill S.

Yelp
My wife and I went here earlier in the week. The food was great. The service was prompt & the ambiance was fun. Highly recommend.

Mickensie W.

Yelp
AHH-MAZING! This shrimp queso dip is the best thing I've ever ate. Don't walk, run and go get yourself some! The salsa and fresh ingredients, so good. All of our food was awesome, and the place itself is super cute. This is a hidden gem that you don't want to miss.

Michael B.

Yelp
Great margaritas! Super local spot in Myrtle Beach. The food is fresh and portion sizes are very large. Friendly and accommodating staff

Alice S.

Yelp
This hole in the wall restaurant was so great. I have two little kids and my toddler made really great friends with the servers! They were so nice and attentive. The food was outstanding. My husband and I split the old school burrito and we both agreed that it was the best meal we've had in a long time!

Steve E.

Yelp
Best Mahi-mahi taco I've ever had.... Off the chain.... Got to try it out... Margaritas a great also...

Stephen P.

Yelp
This place is one of the true hidden gems in Myrtle Beach, as it is a little off the beaten path, but believe me when I tell you that it is worth the walk off the strip, as you will not be disappointed in the food, drinks or service as this place is first class from start to finish. From the time we walked in, we were welcomed and treated like family and that level of service continued even as the restaurant started to fill throughout the evening, as the smiles were constant and the appreciation of us choosing their establishment to have dinner was reiterated time and again, and that level of gratitude means a lot as there are tons of restaurants in Myrtle Beach, but this was the only one that actually thanked us for dining at their place believe it or not. The homemade margaritas had a freshness about them that you just don't get at most places that focus on mixes and syrups, as you could tell from the taste that they actually took the time and effort to make these drinks from scratch and they were absolutely delicious! In terms of the food, the portions were huge but this was definitely not a quantity vs quality situation, as they delivered on both aspects as the amazing portion sizes were only surpassed by the amazing taste and flavor of the food, so come hungry and ready to try some of the best and most unique Mexican food you will ever have, as Sun City exceeded every expectation and I plan to tell everyone I know to pay them a visit as they are THAT good! Fantastic job Sun City Cafe as you definitely earned this 5 Star rating!

Pete G.

Yelp
Tried this place on a recommendation and it didn't disappoint. Great food , exceptional service , and the owners couldn't have been nicer. Will definitely be going back.

Chip P.

Yelp
Hidden gem in town. I wish I would have found this place years ago. Small place, but doesn't have that crowded feel. The service is spot on. Decor is random crap which is awesome. Food is great and plentiful. Best margarita in a beer mug!

Dan M.

Yelp
WOW..Exceeded my expectations. Old school burrito was full of flavor and the freshness of the ingredients was obvious. Also the portions were healthy to say the least. It was a pleasure to meet Tracy as she made me feel genuinely welcome. I will be back.

Harrison D.

Yelp
Wow this place was fantastic. We loved the food, the service was terrific, and great margaritas. If we lived here we'd come to this restaurant all the time.

Amy S.

Yelp
Beautifully kept secret in Myrtle Beach... come hungry! Great environment for family and just a casual hang. The food is both traditional AND unlike anything you'll find anywhere else. Highly recommend.

Ira M.

Yelp
Huge portions! A fun, cozy, and beachy atmosphere with unique wall decorations. Had my work party here and everyone was satisfied!

Julie M.

Yelp
Highly recommend this cool cafe! You will not be disappointed with the portion sizes so bring your appetite. Everyone is extremely nice and welcoming and the food is excellent! Hours are limited to make sure you check them out before you visit and pencil it into your itinerary, you will be glad you did!

Maria Leah M.

Yelp
We live here for 7 yrs. now. Always drove by this simple looking eatery place. The truth is by the look fr the outside...you will wonder is it even open ? Or Hhhhmmm!! I don't know. Don't even want to find out , a quick look, shrug your shoulder and walk away. So I checked the reviews and it has 5 stars.. so I figured why not let's try it out. It looks like an old school Dive In Eating place. You walk in and it's a small eatery decorated with cute umbrellas above you. Nothing fancy just simple n cute. Now as soon as you walked in ...you'll be greeted with a very welcoming smile of this beautiful woman. Bartender is nice and makes good mixed drinks. Margarita is perfect. And we had the braised chicken with spinach. It's so delicious. And big portion too. Complement to the Chef. We've been to a lot of Mexican restaurants and this place is the Best by far. Food is really good. When you come to Myrtle Beach , you have to try this place. You won't regret it. I mean 5 stars meaning 5 stars. So this place is now one of my favorite place to eat.

Cait W.

Yelp
This place was fabulous, the atmosphere is electric, with paintings on the walls, umbrellas hanging from the ceilings, and cool lights. Overall, it was just a very neat, but cozy little cafe. We got there as soon as they opened, and we were greeted by Tracy. She was very friendly, and she assured us that we will love the margaritas made from scratch and that we wouldn't leave hungry! She was right! I boxed half of my burrito. We were served chips with this amazing home made salsa! We ordered the margaritas, fresh guacamole, and I got a fish and shrimp burrito, and my boyfriend ordered the fish taco. Needless to say between the outstanding customer service by the bartender, and Tracy, we will be back on our next visit!

Keven M.

Yelp
Chicken quesadilla is outstanding. Excellent food with a fabulous atmosphere. Will come again.

Bailey C.

Yelp
Best margaritas and cheese dip I've ever had!!! And the quesadillas were delicious. Huge servings. Best food I've had in a while.

Amanda G.

Yelp
Great authentic mexican. Love the eclectic decor inside as well. The burrito with potatoes was plenty for 2! The chicken and spinach quesadilla was delicious as well! Loved the service and the food and portions were great, we could have split one of the meals...

Valerie R.

Yelp
Such Fresh Ingredients in all the dishes we had!. We had a party of five and we all thought our dishes were amazing, not to mention plentiful in portion. The service was friendly and prompt as well! The storefront is so understated for the fresh atmosphere and wonderful food that you get inside. Truly loved our dinner here!

Kathleen Z.

Yelp
Absolutely loved this place. Fresh, home made creative Mexican dishes. Generous portions- ( all 4 of us took boxes home). Delicious!

Ryan A.

Yelp
Sun City Cafe is great! Visited Myrtle Beach from the Houston area and had to get our chips and salsa fix and this hit the spot! Chips and salsa were fresh as well as the queso. Tracy, our server, made it a memorable experience by making us feel right at home. Our kids had the "make your own taco" kid dish and kids quesadilla that they offer off the menu. My wife and I had the "New School," chicken burrito and the "Middle School," shrimp and fish burrito. There was a ton of food between the four of us, so much we took four to go boxes back to our condo. Oh, and the margaritas were very good! It is definitely a place to visit while trying to avoid the touristy spots while in Myrtle Beach!

Michele S.

Yelp
Delicious love this place! It's fun and tasty. Bring my family here when they come to MB

Alex W.

Yelp
Very friendly staff, and a pretty neat looking place in how eclectic and kind of tossed together it is. Salsa is pretty solid. With all that said. Unreal slow. Sloooooooooow. And it was not busy at all. I can deal with that depending on the payoff, which here wasn't worth it to me at all. I tried some of the new school that my partner ordered and it was an alright cheese assault, I don't get the mashed potato thing though. From the ratings, apparently it works for most. Me, nah. Just weird and not a compliment to the spices I expect at all. Bigger issue was the quesadilla. The outside has a little cheese and spinach, but a good 80% of it is just heaps of chicken that doesn't taste like anything. Just not good at all I'm afraid. Really, really bland. Popular place and I am clearly the outlier based on the ratings, so YMMV. For me, we went out on a date and we did not like the same things, but I wish her well.

Steven S.

Yelp
Seafood burrito. They probably have other choices but I can't seem to order anything else. I'll admit I often do take out, which is very convenient. If you have time sit there and eat. It's a comfy, local, independent joint that's owned and run by friendly folk. Great drinks as well.

Tls K.

Yelp
I'd give Sun City 10 stars if I could. This gem is where the locals eat and is not well marked to discourage tourists. We shared old school chicken and had more food than either of us could eat. The mashed potatoes in the burrito was unusual yet beyond delicious! Table side guacamole was so fresh, we fought over it! The house salsa was superb but the hot sauce was too much for me. The chips were salty and fresh. Sun City was our favorite non-seafood restaurant in Myrtle Beach! Sadly I returned to Ohio and was disappointed by the dismal efforts of my local Mexican restaurant''s mashed potato filled burrito.

Micah D.

Yelp
Wonderful!! We had a party of 8 and the owner was very accommodating and so happy to have us. The salsa is made fresh every day and so are the chips. We couldn't get enough of the chips and salsa! Order the guacamole - it is so fresh and has a beautiful presentation. I ordered the shrimp and chicken tacos. AWESOME!! Everything from the tortilla to the cheese to the tomato and lettuce and amount of meat was perfect. My favorite was the chicken taco. Very cheesy and warm and a large amount of chicken. Can't forget the margaritas! We got 2 pitchers for 8 people and that was perfect. They were so tasty and we all were given cold mugs with salt and a lime. I cannot wait to go back!

Daina R.

Yelp
Came to this spot with a dinner party of 13 people. It's obviously difficult to please a group that big, especially when you go into a discreet restaurant such as this one in a foreign city. It was difficult to find because the only sign they have is painted on to the door; if you were just driving by looking for a place to eat ,you'd pass right by it. Everyone was skeptical when I said I had heard of this place off of Yelp, but by the end of the meal, they were ALL turning to me thanking me for finding this place and giving it the thumbs up. To start, the atmosphere was cozy and laid-back. It's on the smaller side as far as restaurants go but they were able to accommodate for our larger party and even met our requests for more table space. I think the thing that made the experience worth the while was the customer service. The chef and owner of the restaurant himself came out and took a picture of our party when we asked for someone to, and introduced himself and chatted with us at the end of our meal. Our server, Matt, was a charming and outgoing young man who took really good care of us. We ordered the Black Bean Dip and the Guacamole for appetizers, both of which were fresh and delicious. They don't serve traditional mexican food but it is so tasty and unique, no one really cared about the differences. The burritos came with mashed potatoes in them which was strange but very good. The serving sizes are incredibly generous-- I ordered a small burrito and only managed to finish half of it in the time I was there. Overall, I would definitely recommend this place for anybody visiting Myrtle Beach. I'm not very experimental when it comes to food-- I'm a vegetarian, I don't really have a choice-- but I'm definitely glad I tried Sun City Cafe's unique dishes because my trip to South Carolina just wouldn't have been the same!

Jackie C.

Yelp
We came here on a girls trip. We loved the atmosphere as soon as we walked in. It's a little off the strip and definitely worth the few extra blocks. The staff gave us mustaches and that set the mood for an evening of laughs. Chef Cary came out to say hello and brought us a round of shots just because he's that awesome. Most importantly, the food was amazing!!! Fresh and made in house, the old school chicken burrito was out of this world. We laughed all through dinner and can't wait to come back to Myrtle and Sun City! Five stars all around. Definitely a must do for visitors to Myrtle Beach!!

Mandy R.

Yelp
This a fun and eclectic little place that is quite unique. DON'T come here looking for traditional or even commercialized Mexican food. It is a one-of-a-kind restaurant and cuisine. Having stated that disclaimer, the food is delicious!!! The burritos are mashed potatoes and chicken or beef or something else wrapped in a tortilla smothered in cheese sauce, rice, beans, lettuce, tomato, sour cream. It is a plate of fantastic. The chicken and spinach quesadilla is also amazing. The ingredients are fresh and the chicken is great. It is slow cooked and trimmed. I've never (more than 10 times visiting this place and always getting chicken) had a piece of nasty chicken fat. My husband gets a beef burrito and my son usually get a one chicken and one shrimp or fish taco. Everything is always fresh and huge serving. I typically get cheese dip and then share the chicken burrito with my daughter it the quesadilla with my mom. The reasoning for the 4 is that it is a limited menu. So, if you walk in thinking you are going to get a 3-10 page menu with combinations like a traditional Mexican restaurant, you're not. It is basically 4 types of tacos, 3-4 types of burritos, and quesadilla. The wait staff has always been friendly and social. We've gotten mustaches to wear on one trip. We've talked about the kids, where we were all from, and many other topics with the genuinely pleasant staff. When the kids were slightly smaller, they were given lollipops after dinner. The decor is fun and interesting to look at with funky furniture too.

Yelp
Tried to find a Mexican restaurant on our anniversary trip and discovered this place on accident! Everything was absolutely delicious and fresh! My husband got the chicken burrito (which was HUGE) and I got the chicken taco (also HUGE). The staff was incredibly friendly and personable. Would recommend to anyone! Go hungry!

Beverly M.

Yelp
Best food in Myrtle Beach! They offer nothing but fresh everything & I have never had a cheese dip like this place has! Atmosphere is awesome & staff is exceptional!

Sami M.

Yelp
Could not have been more impressed with this cute little restaurant! Not only was the food absolutely incredible, the service we received was even better. The owner came out and spoke with us, and our server was outstanding. I had the new school burrito as my entree, and of course the cheese dip for an appetizer... it was 10,000 times better than your average Mexican restaurant! Must have! You have got to check this place out!! :) Yummy! We will be back to this place on our yearly trips to Myrtle Beach.

James J.

Yelp
Get away from the chain places and try this place out. It is outstanding. You have never had a meal like this anywhere. Don't let the small home town look deter you from having the best meal of your life. This was my first time, but it won't be the last. Went again on this years vacation still outstanding. You must try the Old School Burrito.

Andrea W.

Yelp
The best mexican food I have ever had in my life. I highly recommend trying their guacamole for an appetizer. A ordered a burrito for my entree and it was amazing. Our waitress was so nice and I recommend going in on Thursdays because that's when she works. I highly recommend going here you won't be disappointed

Sally S.

Yelp
Excellent Tex-Mex. Unique and fresh. Not like your average neighborhood Mexican joint (nothing wrong with those places this is just fresher). You can taste the difference in the margaritas and the food too. HUGE portions. Plan to take a box home for lunch the next day! Oh, and very friendly staff/owners!

Lloyd C.

Yelp
9.1/10. Highest rated place in this area to date. The guacamole here is elite. All the meat here is juicy and flavorful. Cannot go wrong with any dish on the menu. Quesadilla is in a league of its own. Only negative is there is too much cheese sauce on some of the food. That being said the cheese sauce is delicious, but beware as it is very heavy and could catch up to you later.

Valarie Wright W.

Yelp
I've only left 2 other reviews ever so it's saying something that I'm leaving this post. Ordered cheese dip and beef tacos. Both were bland. The plate was beautiful but the food was just ok. My Old El Paso tacos at home have more flavor. Literally, no flavor. Best thing on our plate was the side of rice. It was delish.

Steve W.

Yelp
No sure this qualifies as authentic Mexican but it is very good. Fresh guacamole, delicious cheese dip and the braised chicken is great. Super friendly staff and oh yeah, margaritas were very nice. Will be back.

Chris E.

Yelp
I would like to start off by saying I have been in the foodservice business for over 20 years. My family and I just eat here and it was one of the most god awful meals we have had. My wife and I shared a pitch of Margaritas and we all shared a small queso cheese dip. My wife had the chicken and spinach Burrito, I had the chicken and spinach quesadilla, our 15yr old boy had fish tacos and our 12yr old girl had a cheese quesadilla. Our two littlest girls (5 and 8 yr old) had chicken tacos-we asked to split their dish and the server was almost reluctant to do so since they do not split dishes. Sooo where do I start... the menu said everything is made "fresh". Our Margarita tasted like it was made from Kool-Aid lemonade dry mix, the "queso dip" was used with block American cheese, the salsa was tomatoes from a can-the only thing fresh was the added cilantro. The chicken everyone had was totally dry and the quesadillas and burrito were smothered with more block American cheese. The total cost of our "dinner" was $112 bucks. Please do not misunderstand, I am willing to pay for good food any day of the week but this was far from being anything good. So if you are into expensive cafeteria food, this is your place. See added "Nasty" picture.

Jackie B.

Yelp
Another great hole-in-the-wall find thanks to Yelp! Start off with a couple of the best margaritas I've ever had, plus guacamole so fresh YOU MIX IT YOURSELF, and you're on your way to a great Tex-Mex meal. I was nervous about the potato burrito, but since it was the only veg meal on the menu, I went for it. It was delicious! You get so much food that sharing would be a viable option, especially if you had drinks and an appetizer. Check this place out-such a far cry from all of the "restaurant row" spots in Myrtle Beach.

Jack L.

Yelp
Personal business takes me to the Myrtle beach area occasionally. I'm from California, where their Mexican food is native. Always a treat, but you have to ask for the "extra hot sauce" and then still won't be blown away. I think it's more of a "locals joint" than catering exclusively to the tourists. The service may seem casual, but that's just the way they they treat their friends. Most of their customers seem to be greeted by name. They seem almost anxious to sit down with you and share your dinner with you, like a guest in their home, a style of Southern Hospitality you will not get in other restaurants. Small, but I've never seen it overcrowded. They have a full service bar if you are just looking for a drink.
