Sun Inn

"A characterful yellow inn with an appealing shabby-chic style, located in a picturesque spot in the heart of Constable Country. The highly seasonal menu offers generous Mediterranean-inspired dishes and the well-chosen wine list offers plenty by the glass. Bedrooms are cosy – two have a modern New England style." - Michelin Inspector

Not stayed here but been for a drink. Gets fairly busy but it's a nice cosy atmosphere. Sofas are dated and need replacing but the warmth from the fire on a cold night is very pleasant. Dedham is a nice place for walks and a slower pace of life and very nice in summer and this is where we choose to go for a nice relaxing drink. Pleasant friendly staff so can't really ask for more.

Lovely lunch with good service. We had Oysters, Flat Iron Steak and Halibut which were all beautiful. Very dog friendly and there is a lovely walk from Dedham to Flatford along the river. Well worth a visit

Went for my daughter’s 18th birthday (which I stated on the booking) and have to say I was a little disappointed. Restaurant was almost empty but it was a Monday so I suppose that’s to be expected, but it’s a lovely cosy village pub. Sat at the table and was told the specials and my husband asked for a gluten free menu - have to say this is a little confusing as you have to search through what you can and can’t have. We all chose and then were told we couldn’t have the mussels - it would have been nice to be told they were unavailable when we were handed the menu. Ordered drinks and couldn’t have what we wanted there either as the menu was about to change apparently?! Soup for start - which was amazing! Mains were also very good, can’t fault the food, although it is a little on the pricey side plus 12.5% service is added, which I feel should be up to the customer what they decide to pay for service! So with not being able to have what we wanted, the waitress wasn’t the friendliest and the fact it was my daughter’s 18th birthday we came away a little disappointed!

Amazing pub/hotel and food in a beautiful village. We stayed for two nights and ate dinner two nights (once in the restaurant and once in the garden). The food was exceptional, service was excellent, the room was lovely and comfortable, the hotel is a gorgeous old coaching inn. Beautiful holiday, hopefully will be back.

The Sun is a beautiful and popular pub in the heart of Dedham. It has a glorious lounge, friendly staff, and a lovely garden. Unfortunately we are unable to eat in the Sun because they use soybean oil in their kitchen. Why they would choose to use a top allergen and contaminate every item of food I can only guess (it’s low cost?), but it’s extremely disappointing. They are not able to accommodate guests with allergies, and in this day and age that’s just not up to standard.

We only went for dinner, but what a dinner it turned out to be! Literally the best meal out we've had in about 10 years! We had the flatiron steak (never heard of that before but it was spot on - first time I can remember not leaving any chewy bits too) which was delicious, as were the chunky chips and roasted tomatoes. Pudding was "Ardleigh Berries & Vanilla Tart, Lemon" which sounded a bit weird but was fab, with excellent crisp pastry. The wine (Montepulchiano) was very good too. All in all, we're trying to find reasons not to go again tomorrow!

Had an Incredible lunch here, nice local Helles lager on tap. oysters were delicious and the market fish was one of the best meals I've had for years. Great combinations of flavour and textures and perfectly cooked. service was friendly and efficient. Great place to go for some top notch food.

Yelp
Sunday Roast in a lovely warm village pub in the heart of Constable country. Friendly, warm and not overly stylised or 'gastro-pub' as many in this area have become...

Yelp
Excellent pub with extremely fast and friendly service. Popped in there for a lunchtime snack and a few beers after a nice walk along the river. Good range of real ales and a fantastic ploughmans. Chunky soda bread with a choice of three cheeses on the plate with gherkins and onions.

Yelp
Really excellent food and drink. Really enjoyed our stay here. The chef clearly cares about quality and sourcing as everything seems to come locally, so i was very happy to see a bill that didn't blow my socks off after a decent Saturday night dinner! Will go back again soon.

Yelp
Been here a couple of times now, and both have been great experiences. The menu whilst not extensive has been different each time, all with Italian slant but definitely not the usual pizza / pasta fare. Service is first class.
