Sun Inn Dedham

Lovely pub with excellent food. It was difficult to choose as everything sounded so good (we’ll have to come back!) but really glad I went for the venison haunch with a good fiery pepper sauce

Over the last few weeks we've been trying numerous places for a Sunday roast and this, looking more like a gastropub looked very nice. What a beautiful place. So cozy and warm on a winter afternoon, the perfect place for a Sunday roast we thought. Unfortunately it didn't quite live up to the expectation. The roast potatoes were far too crispy, I like a crispy roast potato as much as the next person but these needed breaking not cutting and dry inside (seemed as though they'd been re-cooked perhaps?). The meats (pork and beef) were a little dry so requested extra gravy. What really shocked us was being charged for the extra gravy! It was only required because it was a little dry yet they charged us £3.00 for two tiny pots! In all my years I've NEVER been charged for extra gravy! As said, it's a lovely place with a really warm atmosphere and very attentive staff, so this won't put us off returning, although we definitely won't be asking for extra gravy next time..

Stopped for some food on a chilly Tuesday... We had to wait for restaurant to open so had a drink in the lounge area. The food was worth the wait! All four of us said how nice the staff were and how delicious the meals was. Thank you for a lovely visit, we will definitely be returning.

Woah, quality lunch, nice atmosphere, good service! Adnams Broadsword on tap. I had an absurdly good duck leg pie. Boys had steak and a decent kids cheeseburger (could have had gherkins...), wife had excellent soup. Impressive. Almost took the sides of the car off getting into the parking area, but that just adds character. Well done pub team!

Had a lovely lunch at The Sun Inn to celebrate my mother in laws birthday. Wonderful location, beautiful building, delicious food and friendly service, all in all a brilliant experience.

First time visiting The Sun Inn, cannot wait to return. Lovely cosy environment, service impeccable, and food was faultless. I had the featherblade which fell apart, my friend had the roast pork, both executed perfectly, and the Cauliflower cheese I can confidently say was the best we've ever had x

The food at The Sun Inn was very good. Unfortunately, the way the end of the meal was handled completely spoiled the experience. We had a 6pm booking and at around 7:45pm, after we had already ordered dessert, we were told we needed to move immediately to the bar area because the next customers had arrived. There had been no warning beforehand about a strict time limit. For us, service is everything, and being moved mid-meal felt rushed and quite dismissive. It’s especially disappointing as we’re trying to branch out and try new eateries, rather than sticking with the few trusted places we usually go to. This experience makes that a little harder to justify. With a bit more care and clearer communication, this could have been avoided. A real shame, as the food itself was excellent, but the service at the end ruined what should have been a very enjoyable evening.

The Sunday lunch fixed price 2 or 3 course menu offers very good value. Italian bread with a delicious tapenade as a taster was included in addition. The cuisine is Italian influenced but we enjoyed the 'best of British' roast beef served with roast potatoes, Yorkshire pudding, shallot, greens with gravy, plus little pots of extra gravy and horseradish sauce. All absolutely delicious. The wine list is impressive and worldwide. There are also local beers and juices. Minor quibble: no still mineral water, only tap water. For pudding we had chocolate mousse with clotted cream and ginger snap - also very good. The staff were welcoming. Fantastic setting: an historic country inn in a picture postcard English village.

Sunday Roast in a lovely warm village pub in the heart of Constable country. Friendly, warm and not overly stylised or 'gastro-pub' as many in this area have become...

Excellent pub with extremely fast and friendly service. Popped in there for a lunchtime snack and a few beers after a nice walk along the river. Good range of real ales and a fantastic ploughmans. Chunky soda bread with a choice of three cheeses on the plate with gherkins and onions.

Really excellent food and drink. Really enjoyed our stay here. The chef clearly cares about quality and sourcing as everything seems to come locally, so i was very happy to see a bill that didn't blow my socks off after a decent Saturday night dinner! Will go back again soon.

Been here a couple of times now, and both have been great experiences. The menu whilst not extensive has been different each time, all with Italian slant but definitely not the usual pizza / pasta fare. Service is first class.
