While browsing through Island Grocery Depot's Kahului store, I came across a pack of Sun Noodle's Tonkotsu Ramen. Already loving their Shoyu version, I was hesitant about trying it because I'm not a huge tonkotsu fan, mainly due to it's color and creamy flavor. Luckily, this bet paid off! TONKOTSU RAMEN: The 2-serving pack comes with separated fresh noodles and 2 packets of base. When I make ramen using fresh noodles, I always use 2 pots, one to boil the noodles and the other to boil the dashi, then throw the noodles in to have a searing hot bowl of ramen, the only way to eat it. The directions state to dilute the base in 10-12 ounces of water, 12 was perfect. The flavor was really good - creamy, porky, and is a little thicker than traditional broth. I wish I could've decorated it with toppings but this was just a quick lunch in between my day-off list of chores. OKINAWA SOBA: These fully-cooked, thick, white noodles also comes in a 2-pack tray. Even though the noodles are pre-cooked, most folks will want to boil them a little longer as they are super al dente. The dashi flavor is a mix of bonito-beef-shoyu. It's a different, unique flavor that I could probably get used to. YAKISOBA (PLAIN): The 6 ounce package of full-cooked yellow noodles doesn't come with any dashi, so it's up to you to find your own seasoning. Luckily for me, my mom has tons of dashi packs from the Saimin noodle bags, so that goes perfect with these noodles as a stir fry. Toss in some sliced Spam, bean sprouts, shoyu, and oyster sauce for added flavor. You'll definitely need at least 2 packs to feed one person. YAKISOBA WITH SAUCE: This 11.5 oz. package is the better of the two, mainly because it comes with powdered seasoning. I pan fried some Spam, fried the noodles for a bit, added 1/4 cup water, then added both packets of seasoning, which wasn't overly salty at all. Delish! SAIMIN: They offer 2 styles, one with a thicker noodle in the white bag, the other thinner in the clear & orange bag. Both are 2 servings in 1, and come with dashi packs. I love these both ways, either as traditional saimin or stir fried. SHOYU RAMEN: Our local Costco sells these as a 4-pack, so I get 8 servings of piping hot, salty shoyu ramen on demand! They freeze well and I don't even have to thaw the noodles to cook. The packets of shoyu-oil thaw out in no time, and the end result is ramen shop quality & taste. Just add your own toppings. MISO RAMEN: Having had horrible-tasting miso ramen in many-a-restaurant, I was hesitant to try this. I'm happy to report that their version rocks! The broth was full of flavor and depth, and when combined with their eggy-flavored noodles, sent this baby into orbit! Highly recommended even for the miso hater! FACT: Ramen Lab in NYC was ran by Sun Noodle, and featured guest chefs that cooked in front of you while seated at a traditional ramen bar. Wish I got to try them! OVERALL: Another winning product from this now nationwide company that started out in the 808. Can't get good ramen at a restaurant, like on Maui? Head to your grocer's refrigerator and grab a package of this diamond in the rough good stuff and settle that craving!

Yelp
I recently had the brilliant idea to have a ramen bar for my daughters grad party. I ended up ordering noodles and broth via phone ahead of time. I just told them how many servings I needed and they were able to accommodate me. Their pricing is very cheap and reasonable. They accept credit card, cash, or check at pick-up. There's parking along their fence line for pick-up. When facing their building, go to the very left and ring the doorbell on the pole. Someone will come help you. Definitely will be back to get their fresh noodles!

Yelp
We've been there to purchase noodles since we live close to their business. However, we've had the MISFORTUNE to interact with the wife, daughter and the owner himself. However Mr. Was very cordial and nice as well as their staff. But Mrs. and the daughter were both totally different. They didn't speak to us . Instead they've been talking down to us and acted like they' own the world and we're very snotty! Mister was very nice! But what's wrong with the rest of them. We've not interacted won't their son but many say he has the same temperament like the father. I'd rather go to the supermarket and buy other brand noodles because of the two ladies' attitude toward us. They even talk down to their employees! They don't have any tact! So NO! I'm not recommending to go to them. Many have said the same thing also. So we've never gone back. Sorry this is the most negative review I've ever done. And if you had ko stars for their rating then so be it. But this won't let me put a mo star rating! Very bad service and attitude!

Yelp
Happy 40th Anniversary to a local Hawaii business! Sun Noodle (located in Kalihi, Honolulu) advertised a giveaway on Instagram. They were giving away forty ramen kits and I happened to be one of the winners! I responded to the Instagram message from Sun Noodle - they offered delivery or pick up. I chose to pick up and take my prize to my mom's house to share with my family. The factory is located in the industrial part of Kalihi with no parking. Luckily, the gial who answered the phone quickly ran outside to greet me, went into the refrigerator section, and returned with a heavy box of ramen kits. When I opened the box at home, I was surprised to see 16 servings of a variety of noodles! Besides Ramen, there was soba, Okinawan soba, and tsukemen style (dipping) noodles! It was very challenging to decide which one to eat first because all of the soup bases sounded delicious! A toss up between the Garlic shoyu and the miso, I finally decided on Seafood tonkotsu. The tsukemen noodles take six minutes to cook. The dipping sauces use 1.5 cups of hot water to reconstitute. (I saved the spicy tantan for my brother-in-law who ate two servings!) My niece loved the pork broth and thin ramen noodles which only take 1.5 minutes to boil! Everyone loved the firmness and chewiness of each type of high quality noodle! Thank you to Sun Noodle for the very generous gift! My family and I really had a fun foodie event by decorating our own noodle bowls! To Sun Noodle: May you enjoy many more years of success and happiness! Congratulations on your 40th Anniversary! Note: frozen noodles may keep for a couple of months. If kept refrigerated, the noodles will last a few weeks. Hint: if you don't want to order from the factory, you may find Ramen Kits at Don Quixote!

Yelp
This review is for the Ippudo ramen kit Sun Noodle is selling. These kits are $20 each and the broth is from the famous Ippudo Ramen in Japan, but this one is from New York. I have been to Ippudo so many times. First in Fukuoka and later practically every time I have been to Japan so I am very familiar with the taste. Ippudo remains one of my most favorite ramen along with Ichiran and some others. So when I heard they had Ippudo kits, I had to get my hands on some. So, let's get this over with.... is it good YES! Look, you are NOT going to get the same type of ramen from Japan from 3 frozen packets. Everything is frozen - the broth, the tare (sauce) the char siu and even the noodles actually. NO instructions were provided! Luckily online reviews said heat the broth for around 10 minutes. I put the sauce and char siu into the water around the 7 minute mark. I cooked the noodles around 2 min 30 secs. When you go to Ippudo, the bowl is BEAUTIFUL!!!! It just looks as good as it tastes and if you are lucky enough to the go the Ippudo in Osaka by the Osaka Hilton, it is AMAZINGLY GREAT! Make that INSANELY GREAT! SO DARN GOOD! So this kit, makes a bowl that doesn't look anything like Ippudo. It looks exactly like what you think - broth, noodles, a couple of piece of pork and the spicy sauce. Missing is the all the rest of the toppings - kind of weird since they do provide these missing toppings in some other online kits. In the end, the noodles were better than any Sun Noodles I have every had. I honestly didn't know they could make noodles that rocked this good. The broth was good; It did not taste like Ippudo's killer broth but it was good! If you use the entire sauce packet, the entire bowl was red which I don't recall in Japan. But the entire experience was good. There was lots of delicious noodles! $20 is kind of expensive for a ramen bowl, but this is probably the best "kit" and ramen I have made in my house. It's so much better than the $10 Ichiran noodles you can buy at Marukai. This kit is better than any ramen I have made at my house from a packet or otherwise. So is it worth it? I think so. It was really good... Thank you Sun Noodles for making this available. This will just have to do until I get back to Japan....

Yelp
Best noodles in the state! Probably you're having one of their many fine products at your favorite restaurant or eatery. Just when you think your favorite Chop Suey has deliciousness in their noodle or wonton dish. It's probably made by sun noodles!

Yelp
I'm a super big fan of Sun Noodle - and their factory is a hidden gem as it offers their delicious noodles at even lower prices, and with even more variety! The kids love their nama udon ($2.20 from the factory, but it makes SO much noodles!) which expands so much from the 15 minutes of cooking in water. We're fans of their tsukemen noodles - ramen like but way thicker noodles that grab onto whatever soup base you dip it into - and the factory offers it in sleeves for about $1 per bundle. I've never seen this in stores so we consider ourselves lucky to live near the world famous factory that lets us access such exclusive noodles for a good deal... I also really love their jiro garlic ramen - sold at Don Quijote and Marukai, but significantly cheaper ($3) at their factory. The broth is so rich and tasty and definitely reminiscent of ramen at those fancy ramen shops! Will def be back!

Yelp
Omg went to Sun Noodle Factory to pick up ramen. There is a sign saying need to order 24 hour in advance . I called them while still in their driveway and the very nice lady who took my order asked if I was downstairs. I said I was and she said no problem I will her the order ready now. I was in and out in less than 5 min. Thank you so much Sun Noodle!! Fresh shoyu ramen for dinner....so yummy!!!!!

Yelp
Sun noodles are my favorite ramen noodles! It's a perfect texture of chewy and firm. I always buy the wiki wiki frozen noodles so they last for a while. Today sun noodles were giving out 1,000 packages of a 10 pack of noodles! They decided to let the public know they are open everyday for business and there is no shortage of food / noodles during this coronavirus pandemic. There was a crazy line to get it, but I managed to get mine within 10 minutes! Thank you to all the workers and sun noodle company for providing tasty noodles to us! I feel grateful that I was able to pick up a package because I heard the event got shut down early due to traffic! Anyway you can still buy sun noodles at any grocery store or come back to the factory here.

Yelp
Build Your Own Ramen @ Hale. Mahalo to Sun Noodle for always providing excellent quality! Serving Suggestion: Stir Fried Organic Veg, Pork Shiitake Mushhu, Corn, Nori & Egg. Ingredients: Green onion, cabbage, onion, shiitake & corn. Veg brought to our front door by 808 Farmers Table!

Yelp
If you like sun noodles, you can get them all here!...fresh from the factory! The people are so nice and you can get all the different noodles...just head on down to the Kalihi location, park out of the way of the big trucks, enter the door and walk up the stairs. My daughter like the cold udon which comes with dashi. You can also get the S&S dashi powder either with or without MSG.

Yelp
Aloha tourist, visitors. This is not a restaurant that serves food hot. They are a noodle dispensary for retail customers. Food photos are of finished products at other restaurants. The noodles are well done and is the islands favorite "go-to" brand for events and parties as well.

Yelp
Most of us locals have been raised on saimin, udon and ramen. I can remember when my family used to go to small saimin shops in Kalihi, Chinatown and Kaimuki to eat a bowl of fresh, homemade saimin noodles. Each restaurant had their own distinct "dashi". Then the frozen and instant saimin's hit the market. Low cost and very convenient and one by one all the saimin shops started to disappear. I kind of miss the old saimin inn's where we would order a large bowl of saimin and the barbeque sticks together. Remember when the saimin noodles were slightly curly? Sun Noodle is a noodle factory that makes traditional noodles for the kind of saimin I remember. Their brand can be found in all of the major supermarkets and most Japanese restaurants that serve saimin, udon, soba, ramen and yakisoba, get their noodles from Sun Noodle. You don't have to be a business to buy your noodles from the factory. You as a consumer can save a few cents, go up to the second floor office and order fresh noodles directly from the factory. Most of us have ordered fresh "min" from Chinese noodle factories in Chinatown. The flour or dust are everywhere and we just accept that this is the way a noodle factory is. Sun Noodle is a very clean noodle factory. You will be impressed. Well, I've developed my own nostalgic dashi recipe and can now enjoy my two barbeque stick and fresh slightly curly saimin noodles from Sun Noodle whenever I want. I recommend ordering the FRESH (not the dry) Wakana Soba. You cannot buy these at supermarkets. They only sell these to restaurants. This soba is the my favorite.

Yelp
I'm a HUGE FAN of Sun Noodle's nama (fresh noodle) ramen product line, especially the Shoyu Ramen. As you may know, Sun Noodle acquired S&S Saimin from ITOEN back in 2006, and has since offered us the same classic saimin we all grew up with. Sort of. Actually, somewhere along the way S&S's broth turned into a bonito-based dashi stock, where IIRC, the original S&S Saimin was actually a shrimp-based dashi. Well enter 2011, where H&U Inc., dba Sun Noodle introduced a new "retro chic" fresh noodle saimin product called S&S Old Time Island Style Saimin, featuring "Traditional Shrimp Soup Base". Hurray!, "old school" saimin is back! If you're a regular patron of your favorite neighborhood saimin stand, like, oh say, Palace Saimin, Boulevard (ehem, I mean Dillingham) Saimin or Forty Niner Restaurant, you know that their broth is also shrimp based, using a recipe passed on from their original founders, dating back to the earlier party of the last century. Old school saimin as old school saimin gets! Well, Sun Noodle decided to trace back to old school saimin's roots and history and visited some of these benchmark establishments in coming up with the recipe for this new S&S Old Time Island Style Saimin. Getting right to it, the krill-based broth (tiny shrimp that swim in "swarms" in the open ocean) certainly screams "shrimp" in its flavor profile, while it's also rounded out with a dimension of savoriness thanks to the shoyu in the dehydrated broth ingredient profile. The overall flavor is "Umami" all the way. This krill shrimp-based broth definitely stands out as different than the Bonito-based broth you're probably familiar with in the current S&S and Okahara Saimin fresh noodle products for sale at the supermarkets, and will instantly remind you of what "old school" saimin really tastes like. As for the noodles, they're the same one used in Sun Noodle's also excellent OTHER fresh noodle saimin product called Hawaii's Original Saimin (the one in the white package). These noodles taste a little more "eggy" and are more glutenous and firmer in texture than classic old school saimin noodles, which tend to be more soft and "starchy" in flavor. This, thanks to the Potassium Glutamate, a.k.a. "kansui". While I suppose Sun Noodle can't help in retaining some of their Japanese ramen roots, I think in this case, it's for the better. So the shrimp-based broth truly has that classic old school taste, while the curly, more firm and glutenous noodles take on a slight evolution and sophistication for the better. The new-for-2011 "retro-chic" S&S Old Time Island Style Saimin is currently available exclusively at Don Quijote, Times & Tamura's Oahu store locations. Make sure when you pick up a package or two, to also get some Kamaboko, Charsiu pork and green onion to top it! 5 Stars for S&S Old Time Island Style Saimin featuring traditional shrimp soup base. Check it out!

Yelp
Fresh fresh noodles. I buy by the case & freeze they cook up perfectly like the best restaurant noodles. Prices & staff service is so good. Worth the extra drive!

Yelp
I went to their location in Kalihi to pick up their original soup base which is my favorite. Parking can be tricky but one of the workers said I could park in a spot which is not a parking space when I explained that I was going to the will call window to pick up my phone order. All the workers I encountered were very friendly and courteous. A great big Mahalo to all of you!

Yelp
Not sure if I should post this review. Went to Sun Noodle when they were giving out free noodles, their whole crew was outside with a tent setup and handing out free noodles to everyone driving by. Traffic was wild but employees were directing traffic which made it work. Noodles were delicious by the way. First time tasting, wasnt disappointed. It was excellent. Will go back again. Covid19 and they did a great handout to the community. I Appreciated their great gesture. Thanks Sun Noodle..

Yelp
For all the local noodle fans out there, where would you be today without Sun Noodle? Think about it...without SN you'd be paying outrageous prices for gourmet Asian noodles imported or eating that instant dried stuff. It doesn't just stop there, you may not know this but SN supplies majority off all the Ramen-ya's and other eateries that has noodles. What you say? You didn't think that places like those hole-in-the-wall saimin shops in Kalihi or those Ramen places you love it hit where also supplied by Sun Noodle? Yup, it's true. They also have plants in LA and NJ which has created a coast-to-coast presence for this local business, good for them. In Hawaii it's almost as if they have a monopoly. But unlike a lot of monopolies you see locally like certain airlines that overcharge you for a neighbor island trip or skimp on quality like some of the internet and cable providers here, they don't skimp on quality at all. They strive on providing you the best product to fulfill your needs. I love eating Tsukemen which is "dip noodle." Tsukemen normally consists of thicker noodles to dip into your noodle broth. SN does not sell this over-the-counter at any retail outlet, so I went directly to their local plant here where I was able to buy thicker noodles and the dashi. So awesome. So next time you're near Colburn street, stop by and pick yourself up some fresh noodles. Time to get your noodle on.

Yelp
I bought packaged Sun noodle Miso ramen at a Japanese grocery store named Anzen in Portland, OR and was happily surprised. The soup is very good. Less salty and thick compared to Myojo frozen ramen, but strong enough to enjoy the taste of reddish miso. Noodle has koshi (al dente), which I also like. I definitely want to try other flavors.

Yelp
They're the biggest name in noodle manufacturing in the US and it's right here in Honolulu! For the discerning home cook, call ahead to the factory to order one of their many different styles of noodles. Who knew that they made so many different types of ramen noodles? Definitely check out their other products including my favorite, the Okinawan yaki soba (pre-cooked and oiled), which makes for a really quick dinner with some spam, chop suey mix (Taro Brand), and the seasonings of your choice. It's great to see their ramen sets in most grocery stores. If you head into the Japanese markets, you can mix and match your noodles with their soup base.

Yelp
AWESOME.... this was my third time coming here. My first experience was great. I had no clue where i was going but the workers welcomed me and showed me how to get where i needed to. Then when i get upstairs to order my saimin she was more than willing to help me. She even provided me with more than enough information so that i could decide on which products would benifit our group.

Yelp
Walk through the door to the left of the yellow plastic covered bay & up the stairs. To the far left is the door to the office & where you order your noodles, wrappers & broths. We were greeted by friendly, smiling staff everywhere we went, and the office manager was friendly & helpful. Thanks to everyone for making us feel welcome & important, even with our small personal order!

Yelp
I emailed sun noodle and asked why the chow funn that I purchased from times was falling apart before I even cooked it......no response. I wasted vegetables, meat and money trying sun noodles. I will never purchase their brand again! Very dissatisfied with the noodle and with sun noodles customer service!!
