Asian food is kinda my thing... old school to fusion, mom n pop to food Court to franchise... my go-to is usually Vietnamese or Thai or Korean and sushi or Chinese. I've never been here before, but some longtime pals have been fans prior to the pandemic... so tagged along and HOLY SMOKES... this is FAB! AYCE Sushi done well with the yummiest versions of appetizers included, as well as a great AYCD alcohol upcharge option, which was legit even though I dont drink. Service by Hiro was great and so accommodating. My friend ordered five California rolls by accident (dhe only wanted 5 pieces vs. rolls, yet he was so kind and understanding The decor is lovely and the booths were very comfortable. This place is fantastic now. I have to come back to try the other dishes... everything seems freshly made, even my sésame balls were to order. My new go-to asian spot for now. Love this place!!!

😋😋This is the 3rd time for us. Even better than the last 2, which is great, as we are celebrating the Independence Day - the 4th of July... 🎆🎉🧨A special day, a special restaurant... So let' treasure our FREEDOM, while we treasure the delicious food from the great Chef of SUN SHUI, Ryan, Hiro, and Co. 🙏🙏🙏With Immense GRATITUDE to this GREAT NATION, in spite of challenges now and then🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸

Came in last minute to Sunshi for the first time, and I was blown away by the service. Even though they were technically closed, the staff still took my order—and I expected some old leftovers, but instead the food was freshly made and absolutely delicious. Huge shoutout to the kind waiter (sorry I didn’t catch his name)—he made the experience even better. Definitely will be back!

Google
The restroom was not the cleanest. The carpet looked like it hadn’t been cleaned in 10 years. The table was sticky. It seemed our waiter was the only waiter in the entire restaurant and was also bussing tables. The service was a bit slow. We ordered some sushi and pad Thai. The food was delicious although I think a little over priced. I wanted a cup of hot tea, but they charge $6, which I find ridiculous. The beverages were super over priced, the food a bit overpriced. But the quality of food was very good.

Google
First time here and everything was top notch. Egg roll was 8/10. Hot and Sour soup was excellent along with Won Ton soup. Potstickers were better than good. Mongolian shrimp excellent as was the walnut shrimp. The waiter wasn’t overly friendly but he did everything right. I would come back in a minute! Like to try the sushi.

Google
Absolutely fantastic! The food at Triple Star is superb. The flavors are amazing, and what sets it apart is the absence of an oily aftertaste – truly impressive.

Google
We’ve been a few times and enjoy it always. Today, we got the Pepper Beef and General Tso’s Chicken. We also had the Smokey Roll to start. I would order all three dishes again. The roll was so good, it made me wonder if I need to do all sushi on the next trip. Nice ambiance. (Picture below is half eaten, which doesn’t do the presentation justice).

Yelp
Waited over 1 hour for carry out! "Who's your MOD?" "He moved away" "wait what?!" "Who's in charge?" "The guy in the back." This was the worse experience!! I will never come back!!!

Yelp
The wait for the food was sooooo long, but the food is overall okay (according to my husband), but I thought the flavors were very plain and subpar.

Yelp
Been years since I have been here. The Host was all smiles. Service was outstanding. I find that they have my favorite egg rolls in the area. Large and plump with filling. So good. Our entrees were Chicken and Vegetables and Kung Pao Chicken. We both liked the sauce and taste. Will definitely be returning.

Yelp
Rachel was very helpful and kind to us. We were waiting for a little while and she took our order for us. The food was good too!

Yelp
SS has been our family go to for carry out Chinese for twenty years. The food is consistently good. We love all things chicken--Kung Pao, cashew, sweet and sour, orange, and broccoli. The chicken (4/5) is good not great, occasionally more chewy than I'd like. The veggies (5/5) are consistently fresh, tasty, and crisp. Rice (4/5) is pretty standard. Overall recommended.

Yelp

Yelp
Wow! My boyfriend picked this place because I said I wanted to go to a sit down restaurant and eat. He found Sun Shui Restaurant, which was close by. When I say THE FOOD AND SERVICE IS TOP NOTCH! The Smokey Roll is superb and has become my new favorite roll. Always going to order the Smokey Roll. The spicy noodle soup was recommended by our waiter and it was a wonderful suggestion. The restaurant looks nice inside and the waitstaff is friendly. This is now a new favorite Asian restaurant we will continue to go to and support.

Yelp
Husband and I recently tried this restaurant after passing it for years. When you walk in, you don't expect the restaurant to be as big as it is on the inside; there is a fish pond when you walk in and lots of seating around the restaurant. We came for an early dinner so there weren't many people there yet but by the time we were wrapping up, more people were arriving. Service was good, waitress was on top of checking in with us and refilling our waters. Food was just okay. We got the crispy beef which we were exciting to try based on others pictures on here but it felt kind of tough to eat. Flavor was good though, had a good hint of spice to it. We also ordered the honey sesame chicken which I enjoyed more; chicken was tender and the sauce was more like a honey mustard than a honey sesame glaze like other places. Overall, I'm glad we tried it finally but there are some other places we prefer for a sit down Chinese meal.

Robert S.

Yelp
We have tried many AYCE (All You Can Eat) sushi restaurants in the area and this one is the best. The quality of their food, atmosphere, and service (Ryan) are top notch! the price is well worth it also!

Yelp
6:00 on a Saturday night- We were one of the first tables to arrive and one of the last to leave around 8:00- service, food and drinks were great! Definitely be back~

David L.

Yelp
Hunan chicken was delish, flavorful, perfectly mild red peppers (to my taste), ample meat, and veggies, good size for money. Chicken eggroll was tastey and large. This is my new spot when I'm not cooking or have friends in Arl Hts.
google avatar

TJ B.

Yelp
Service was fantastic and the food tasted extremely fresh. We will definitely come back. We unfortunately did not stay but there were several tables full and additional people coming in. Excited to see restaurants like this find a home in Arlington Heights.
google avatar

Yelp
Kung Pao Style shrimp I ordered, on menu described (assorted vegetables) all I had was celery sticks and a bit of chopped red bell peeper and few cubes of carrots. Lo Mein Noodles were ok - had better elsewhere. Never received my egg roll.

Yelp
Everything is perfect. The food is the best as is the service. The restaurant itself is beautiful and not your typical 50's Chinese restaurant.

Yelp
I have been coming here for ten years and sadly this is not nearly as good. Tonight will be our last night. The portions are tiny and the prices are up. The ingredients are not fresh ... some of it was stale and over cooked. I will say the fried rice was good. But not the victory lap it once was. The low point was when the walnut shrimp came out with stale nuts and over half the plate empty. Literally 25% shrimp. 25% broccoli and 50% empty white space. I actually asked if that was the appetizer portion. Her response was the entry comes with ten shrimp. I literally think there is someone in the back counting the shrimp and playing the order. It was so sad. I am still sitting here ending the meal like it started. 15 minutes at table for water and greeting. Now it is 20 minutes to pay the bill. And still no one. So we are taking up to the front to pay. Ps. No one is even here so it is not like the tables are busy. Sad day for a legend restaurant.

Yelp
You know some places are hit and miss? Well this place is a Home Run! Excellent flavors and quality and quantity. Beautiful inside and very clean. Very nice people too! Take the family Highly recommend!

Yelp
Have been going to this restaurant since it opened. Was consistently great. Last nite we had dragon rolls, that were not fresh and were tasteless.. The fortune cookies were so stale that we had to spit them out. Such a shame.

Barry H.

Yelp
This wasn't our first visit to Sun Shui, but we won't be returning soon. We had eight in our group. We had different first courses and they should have been served at the same time, they weren't. Our main courses came out at different times, some of our party were finished by time all the dishes were served. It was difficult to find our server. We'll be looking for another Chinese restaurant in our area.

lee w.

Yelp
Cheap owners Every meal we ordered had a SMALL AMOUNT OF MEAT/SEAFOOD We each paid like $20 for a plate full of noodles and vegetables and very little of the good stuff. Won't be going back
google avatar

Tom M.

Yelp
Sorry, strike two and can't come back. I used to love this place Mushu pork to go,... no plum sauce, and food was extremely salty indicating to me that they are using old meat and using the added salt as a preservative. They changed the menu after the remodeling which i bet is an indication of change in management Thursday night and very very few customers in dining room or carry out. Bye BTW: staff very courteous.
google avatar

Yelp
Excellent hot and sour soup. Was cooked to oeffection. Eggplant was good. Customer service was excellent. Out waiter Tim was great. I'll be back.

Yelp
Very good food, friendly service. Very good won ton soup, generous entree portions. Highly recommend!

Yelp
We have been coming to Sun Shui for as long as they have been open. The dine in experience is very welcoming. The staff is very very friendly and helpful. Drinks are very authentic and delicious. They have changed their menu which now includes many more cultural dishes. We have never had a bad or unexpected meal ever. The place is always clean. Order the egg roll, it is sold by the piece but oh my the best egg roll ever. We have ordered in restaurant and have done carry out many times. From appetizers to sushi to authentic meals this is the place to be. We eat here 2 to 3 times a month. If you are in the area heck even if you aren't and want Asian meal stop in you won't be disappointed.

Maria M.

Yelp
We "visited" here last week on a Weds. very odd service from walking in the door. Place was empty (one other table had 2 people) and quiet. We were seated right next to the kitchen and handed paper menus, the exact one we have in our take out menu drawer at home but the home one is in better shape. Waitress wasn't very friendly, seemed put out and annoyed. Everything was telling us to leave but we once again were giving the place another chance. Ordered 2 egg rolls. Waited a good amount of time to make one think this will be nice and fresh. Wrong. One bite in and both rolls were ice cold. Hot on the outside and cold inside. At that we decided it was our cue to head out. We let them know why we were leaving and didn't look back. That was the last chance. I'm sorry that this go to place for excellent food and service has declined to a point of no return.

Yelp
pretty good sushilove to get some cocktails on a night out without the kidsbut when the kids come they aren't a fan a sushi but love the rice, chicken and noodles
google avatar

Pat B.

Yelp
They have good food but my family got the most horrible service ever the last time we ordered it in.

Gary G.

Yelp
we have been going to Sun Shui for Chinese food for well over 20 years and have always been happy with the food. Recently they changed their menu, eliminated all our favorites, and the new items we ordered last night were entirely mediocre. We are doubtful to return.

Becca B.

Yelp
Have stopped here a couple times to get some sushi rolls. They have quite a range of options for rolls and all the ones I've tried have been great, but the standout is definitely the moon light roll. Yummy! They have great miso soup too. They have a pretty wide range of food options, so I will probably try some other plates next time I come, because they sound delicious. The decor is beautiful here!
google avatar

Fast Eddie F.

Yelp
STRIKE TWO. No soy sauce on table. Had to ask for spicy mustard for egg rolls. Portion sizes declining. 3/10 service. I don't know what it is but this place is fading fast. Seems to be morphing into a sushi joint.

Bennett B.

Yelp
Glad to share this review . Highly recommend Sun Shui. Absolutely delicious, Great menu, service, ambiance and value.
google avatar

Linda C.

Yelp
Would normally give 5 stars because we love the food here. The reason for only 4 stars is that I received a bit of an attitude when I asked them to remake my sushi as my veggie sushi was sitting next to my husbands regular sushi and I am highly allergic to seafood. I know they did not remake my order as I requested because it took them 10 seconds to give me my food in a separate container. They could have killed me by not understanding why I asked for the sushi to be remade. I had not known that they would pile all the sushi on one plate. If I had known, I would have asked for it to be kept separate due to allergies. Also they let it slip that they make all the veggie sushi on the same mats as the fish sushi. A word of warning to them, that is not a good practice.

Yelp
Not sure what is going on here but things have gone from best to worst in the last 90 days. This is a 30 minute drive for us and in the past it was worth it but not anymore. Since the "Renovation" it's an entirely new experience and not in a good way. The menu has been slashed, portions reduced, prices raised. Our food came out of the kitchen last night ice cold, and just lacking any real flavor. Service was all but non existent. If they are trying to run this place into the ground to cash out then it's an overwhelming success but this place was a family favorite for well over 20 years and last night was the 2nd bad meal we've had in a row and I don't see us coming back.
google avatar

Reem S.

Yelp
Ok for any real sushi eaters- this is NOT a place to go for sushi. low quality. Order chicken Mongolian for Chinese food and it was mediocre.

Yelp
Egg rolls!!!! I had given up on finding a place with a good egg roll, most Chinese restaurants offer either a perfectly crisp or soft soggy & greasy wrapper filled with unidentifiable flavorless mush, THAT IS NOT THE CASE HERE. The egg roll is crisp never greasy, the cabbage inside is julienne cut & still has chew to it. The filling is so perfectly seasoned you don't need sauce. The entrees are where Sun Shui lost one star One of my favorite dishes is Singapore noodles, while the portion is generous its entirely too salty to even discern any other flavors. The egg foo young is delicious, however 2 patties at $14 is a bit much. The employees here are incredibly friendly. Always warm greetings and smiles both over the phone & when you enter the restaurant. The restaurant is clean, the restroom is clean & properly stocked, and there is plenty of parking.

Anna S.

Yelp
We have been going here for the last fours years and had been very happy with the food. The menu was large and satisfied everyone. We moved out of the area and hadn't been there in a while. My daughter and I went during the week and were so disappointed by the food we will never go back again. I have never had to send sushi back because not only did it smell fishy, it also tasted strange. The manger took it off our bill and said it was fresh. Given that we are frequent sushi eaters, we do know what fresh fish tastes like. We also ordered walnut shrimp. The shrimp were deep fired and had shells on them. They were dry and tough. The broccoli that comes with it was uncooked and ice cold. We also had another roll that had tempura shrimp in the roll. Again the shrimp had a shell. I understand the management changed and so did the menu. I could not believe it was so bad. It's a shame, but we will never, ever go back.

Yelp
Met a big party here ,tried pretty much everything from sushi to chinese all were very good

Yelp
I honestly have been dreading writing this review. The service we got here was horrible. We waited 5 minutes to be seated on a mostly empty Tuesday night. We were served right away for drinks and our food order was quickly taken. We ordered a lot for just two people because the menu looked so good. We got the pork pan fried dumplings first, which were way too doughy so we only ate 2 and the sauce on the side wasn't your typical soy sauce which we didn't like. The rest of the order came shortly after. The noodle dish was nothing like I thought, they are small hard noodles with ALOT of veggies and a little beef. Didn't like it at all. The chicken and broccoli was sub par and the honey sesame was of course sweet but okay. We ordered veggie fried rice but got the combo, and when I asked the Chinese waitress to correct it because I'm allergic to seafood she yelled at me that my BF was the one ordered it not me and he ordered the combo, but he didn't. She was very mean about it and finished it with a very stern "we good?" My BF and I are not confrontational so we awkwardly just steered at each other and said nothing. Shortly after a man checked on only our table to see how everything was and we were silent. I've never been treated so poorly for asking for the correct item due to a food allergy. The food wasn't that good but the service was horrible. It's definitely not worth the money.
google avatar

Viviana L.

Yelp
This is the best authentic Chinese food around the northwest suburbs. Highly recommend!

Lisa M.

Yelp
This used to be our favorite local restaurant. The key words there are "used to." The change in management and menu are horrible. Favorite menu items are gone, and it's now sort of a splatter of all things Eastern, none done well. What a sad state of affairs. We used to go every couple of weeks, either for take-out or dine-in. Now, nope. Not going back.
google avatar

Trish P.

Yelp
Eat here at your own risk!!!!! Have been a loyal customer for years. $135.00 order. The order missing items. Requested shellfish rolls be packaged separately due to a shellfish allergy. That didn't happen. Ordered Seared Tuna Tataki instead some disgusting salad with bits of tuna on it. Tried calling immediately to try and get issues resolved but couldn't get through. Tried calling later in the evening no answer. No voicemail. It should be noted this is not the first time for the above issues. Trying to help local business during these trying times but this is not acceptable!!!!! Third strike and you are out! Update.... Finally got through and asked to speak with manager. I articulated above and was told that they would not refund me for the rolls being mixed with Shell Fish because It wasn't in their computer. I explained to her that it's not my responsibility to update her computer and the employee was negligent. She hung up on me!

Yelp
I've been wanting to try this place out in the suburbs. It's nicely decorated on the exterior as well as the huge interior. However, it was pretty empty on this Sunday night. Our waitress was not friendly at all- rude even- and it sadly made me not want to come back! Otherwise, the food was excellent. Salad: I was in need of some serious veggie action, so I ordered one of the salads. Out comes a tartare- not a salad. I asked the waitress if we could replace it with a salad, and understandingly so, she was very upset. But when I ordered the tuna salad I was not looking for a tartare! After talking to the managers and avoiding our table, our waitress finally replaced it with the mango mixture salad- much much better but too much dressing. Rolls: we ordered the xmas roll and rainbow roll. Both were very simple but fresh. Great non fru fru choices. A seaweed salad went very well with this combo too. Overall, I would gladly come back for the food, as they also have a nice selection of Chinese dishes to choose from too, but my experience with our waitress was not pleasant!

Debra S.

Yelp
Worst Japanese food ever. Place was nearly empty on what should have been a very busy weekend night. Food was tasteless, like it had been around too long. SORRY Sun.
google avatar

Debbie S.

Yelp
Excellent food with fair prices. Slower service but certainly worth it! Great for kids and private parties as well.

Tony C.

Yelp
Wife brought this home for take out. Not sure if the main course but it was fried beef and kind of dry. Egg rolls tasted like chemicals and chicken fried rice wasn't appealing. Wouldn't go back if I were starving and food was free
google avatar

Tony S.

Yelp
Good takeout. Fair prices good service and easy to order. The pork and garlic was hot and tasty my favorite is there hot sour soup. If your in the run and want a reliable pick up spot. Definitely give this a try

Yelp
We have been to the sit down restaurant many times and we're always very happy with the food. Today, because of COVID-19 we decided to order and have it delivered. It took is a few times to get through as they were very busy. They were upfront in saying that the delivery could be over an hour because of demand and we were fine. As it turns out the food arrived in under an hour. The food we ordered was great, just like we ordered in the restaurant. Food was warm and tasty. I would highly recommend the restaurant for takeout and of course sit down when they can open again.

Nick M.

Yelp
Awful food. We should have left when we arrived and saw only 2 other tables with diners during prime dinner time. We were very hungry so we decided to order appetizers and soup and then we would order our entree. The egg roles were stale and the soup was watery. We asked for crunchy noodles for the soup but were told they have none and never have (this by the way was a lie as we've eaten there before and had crunch noodles for our soup). We finally got our entree order in and after 10 minutes in, we were told that they have no water chestnuts at all (which one of the entrees was to be only the protein and water chestnuts). At this point, we were fet up and asked for our check. We were questioned by some woman who we can only assume was a manager and she was quite rude when we complained. Didn't ask how she can make it better-she only cared that we were leaving without continuing our meal. Wont be going back.
