Updated: Side Yard Farm’s Incubator Kitchen Project Works To Find A New Home | Eater Portland

"Planned as a shared kitchen incubator in the Cully neighborhood, I learned Community Supported Kitchen (CSK) was meant to open at the closed Delphina’s Bakery address alongside Maya Lovelace’s new restaurant as an affordable launchpad for small local food entrepreneurs to incubate, make, and connect with neighborhood bounty. Givens described the vision as supporting homesteaders raising goats and chickens and honey producers and connecting chefs and artisans with local products, but repeated city permit delays pushed the launch back to December—“and that’s just a maybe”—which caused many prospective tenants to leave. Because she can’t open and operate CSK in the red, Givens and her partner Dillon Debauche have been scouting other locations and alternative options. CSK raised $53,498 on Kickstarter; Givens says she spent roughly half on architect costs, non‑refundable deposits, Kickstarter fees, and some used kitchen equipment, leaving funds to invest in whatever comes next, and she remains committed to making the idea happen." - Brooke Jackson-Glidden

Been driving by this place for years never thought of trying. No big sign or attention. I was surprised how clean and organized it was. Beautiful layout and relaxed seating. Tried the avocado toast and eggs. Would definitely come back to try the breakfast burrito. Affordable and delicious. Great customer service.

Google
I had some of the BEST biscuits and gravy I have ever had today! Biscuits was flaky and buttery and soooo soft and the gravy was delicious thick seasoned and just the right amount of sausage. Thank you!

Been coming for lunch for over almost 2 years and it’s always been great.

IT WOULD BE NICE IF THIS ESTABLISHMENT WOULD STOP PUTTING THEIR FLYERS ON MY DOOR. IT'S DISGUSTING HOW DESPERATE THIS BUSINESS IS TO KEEP PUTTING THEIR FLYERS ON MY DOOR AND EVERY BODY ELSE'S DOOR WHERE I LIVE. IF A PERSON IS INTERESTED IN WHAT YOUR DOING THEY WOULD GO TO YOUR ESTABLISHMENT AND ASK OR GO ON YOUR WEBSITE. AND SEEK.

Google
Sun Valley Kitchen has really surprised me with the quality of their coffee and tea beverages, food, and atmosphere. The full service coffee bar has a range of standard coffees, lattes, and teas. All are very reasonably priced for Denver. I'm not sure the coffee bean they use but it is full bodied and delicious. The tea selection isn't very large, but they are all well steeped and really delicious. Based on several lunches here, I feel qualified to say that their food far exceeds expectations. At a very reasonable price too. I'm positive you will be surprised as well, you can't go wrong with the daily special! Aside from their products, the staff has done a wonderful job at creating a laid back cafe that's great for hanging out in. Big windows let lots of light pour in, plenty of tables and an array of big comfy couches makes the interior a wonderful place to stay a while. All of the staff members are delightful to talk to, kind, and very helpful. Great job Evan!

Google
The service is amazing, the ingredients are super fresh and high quality as well. My favorites are the fish tacos, falafel, and burger (so far). You can easily feed two people on $20 too, incredible.

Google
This place is awesome! I had the falafel sandwich and it was gourmet-level delicious. Everyone here is so kind, and the service is great. Also it supports a great community cause which is just another reason why I recommend Sun Valley Kitchen!

Yelp
The service here was quick and effective. Just a quick coffee stop on this visit but the menu items looked good enough for me to warrant another stop to try out their breakfast offerings. Large open and spacious dining area with what looked like musical instruments brought a warm inviting atmosphere.

Yelp
Hit and miss food. Extremely salty most days. The service and staff are very friendly.

Yelp
Go support this neighborhood gem!!! Sun Valley is, unfortunately, not home to many restaurants (yet...)- but Sun Valley Kitchen is much MORE than just a restaurant. The owners truly have a special mission (see their website) and have extending helping hands to their local neighbors and community. SOOOO awesome! OH yeah, let's not forget the food- delicious! I had a training at CDOT, so we walked here 3 days in a row one week- and I never got sick of it. The Vietnamese beef bowl and banh mi are incredible.

Yelp
I was fortunate enough to be invited to sample many of the menu items during the soft opening of Sun Valley Kitchen. Everyone I spoke with was very friendly and enthusiastic about their new endeavor. I was able to meet the owner, Glenn, the head chef, Reuben, and a very nice young woman who was working front of house. For those who do not know, the Sun Valley neighborhood is somewhat lacking in dining options. The addition of Sun Valley Kitchen will have a marked impact on this area. I was excited to sample several menu items. The hummus was every bit as good as what I am used to. The iced-tea was straightforward and refreshing. The house-made chips were quite good. For me, the salads and sandwiches really shone. The Vietnamese Grilled Beef Salad (with Marinated Cucumbers, Bean Sprouts, & Cilantro Lime Dressing) was very tasty and a good choice for a lighter bite. The Traditional Greek Salad (with Roasted Tomato, Feta, Kalamata Olives, & Oregano Dressing) had some solid flavors. The Seasonal Roasted Vegetables were a welcome addition to my plate. Perhaps my favorite bite was the Vietnamese BBQ Beef Banh Mi (with Spicy BBQ Pork, Marinated Vegetables, Cilantro, & Banh Mi Sauce). I know people who will practically come to blows over how authentic this Banh Mi is versus that one. This one was done as a Panini, and definitely had all the flavors I was looking for. I do not eat Falafel that often, but I did like the Crispy Falafel Pita Sandwich (with House Made Falafel, Tahini Lemon Sauce, & Warm Pita). It had a distinct curry flavor to me, which I am still trying to decide if it was a plus, a minus, or neutral in the grand scheme of things. I had a bite of the Fresh Cut Fries smothered in Green Chile sauce with Cheese. This was comfort food with a kick. I finished off this fine, and reasonably priced, repast with a sweet mini-bite of peanut butter fudge. Aside from the excellent food, Sun Valley Kitchen has a mission. A portion of their proceeds directly fund the Sun Valley Community Center. Many of the recipes used at this restaurant were contributed by community members. In line with that, each Thursday Sun Valley Kitchen will be featuring specialty food items prepared by local residents. Funding from this will help support the food-based businesses of these same residents. ***Current hours are 10:30am to 1:30pm***

Yelp
If you have not yet tried the new SunValley Kitchen for breakfast or lunch you are missing out on a friendly place, great customer service and really good food at a great price! The breakfast burritos are pretty good, they make a good latte too, but lunch is my favorite...always a lunch special, soup choices, hamburgers, salads, fries with green chili and cheese are amazing and much more! Give them a try!

Yelp
Great food and great people. Love the choice of fresh food in Sun Valley. Glenn is an amazing guy with a heart of gold. The fries are amazing, love their daily specials. Thankful for a place to eat that is close by and delicious!

Yelp
Just tried out this new restaurant on opening day. There are high expectations for this place I think because there are few options in this neighborhood and the kitchen is already a force in the community, as mentioned by a previous post. And those expectation seem to be getting met or exceeded. The place has an informal and warm vibe, and the kitchen seems to run like a well oiled machine on Day One (!). I had an excellent banh mi sandwich with some amazing Belgian-style fries. But the menu ranges widely, from carnitas to fish and chips to felafel. From what I've seen and tasted, they seem to be ace in all of it (although I haven't tried the coffee yet). I'll be back for sure!

Yelp
Lunch here with friend, such a great neighborhood. Historic and now undergoing a face lift! This site is an old ?7-11 that has been ungraded, remolded, and has wonderful ambiance, simple, and diverse to match the surroundings. Sun Valley Kitchen fits well into a very special part of near west Denver. Just south of Bronco stadium, down the hill from Federal, old projects getting a restoration. Food is plain, simple, and terrific.

Jeni Q.

Yelp
This place is awesome! The food is great, the people are great! We had them cater for our office just down the street, Del Norte, and everyone was able to get something they wanted and everyone loved what they had! I felt very welcomed and enjoyed the energy and atmosphere created. Go and enjoy!

Yelp
I stopped in for a coffee and burrito. Expected to pay $4-6, and ended up paying over $8 OTD. I will keep stopping at Santiago's on Federal. Especially since an office burrito order would cost me over 4 times as much here.

Yelp
This part of town is a healthy food desert. It was great to stop in here for a delicious vegetarian lunch. The menu was small but diverse (mostly meat options). I would love to see this place thrive!

Zachary H.

Yelp
I was very fortunate to come here for my first time on a Tuesday where they served asian pork belly tacos with kimchee fried rice on the side. The food was fantastic and the staff was awesome! When I first ordered I asked for a side of fries but the cashier/owner (middle aged, white male, grey hair) said I didn't need to get fries because the fried rice would be enough. Long story short he ended up bringing me out a free basket of fries with my food! I wanted to thank him after but he seemed extremely busy. Anyways, I would definitely stop by again and try out some other food!

Yelp
I'm so excited that this restaurant opened up right near my work! The food is DELICIOUS. I splurged and got the wings AND a gyro w/ fries and it was all amazing and less than $17 (without tip). They also feature local chefs every Thursday bringing different types of food to the neighborhood. I didn't get their featured chef dish last time, but coworkers did and said it was fabulous. I love that they have good food, at a great price, and have a great cause. Heading there to get lunch now. :)

Yelp
Food is so fresh and flavorful. There is a variety of food that is all amazing. Love coming here for lunch . Staff greet you with smiles.

Yelp
Check this place out! I went for lunch and had the gyros and fries. Delicious. They have specials like carnitas burrito or carrot ginger soup. So many dishes I wanted to try - I'll have to be back. They also offer breakfast which looked good too. Priced well.

Yelp
I was looking for something within walking distance besides a food truck for lunch. I stopped in and was greeted by a very nice attendant. I ordered the crispy fish tacos and was a little skeptical since the price was on what I would consider the high side for two street tacos and a beverage. I was surprised by how delicious they were. I was also surprised how filling they were. Places like this remind me that you don't have to be engorged to be full. They also support ask risk kids and families as a community center so your money goes to help others in the area.

Yelp
Great find , had the daily special - chorizo sopes, delicious , though my absolute favorite had to be the churros it came with, nice and crunchy with that slight softness inside which isnt easy to come by in the world of processed churros.this place is also apparently super involved in the community which makes it even more awesome. we were on a bike ride and happened to stumble upon it, not far off the bike trail. Super friendly staff and good vibe, highly recommended, we will be coming back for the churros alone :)

Matthew K.

Yelp
Really good and authentic food here. Came for lunch and definitely coming back here. I had the Beef Banh Mi and it was soo good. They aren't big sandwiches so if you're really hungry maybe consider ordering two.
