The 19 Best Restaurants On Cape Cod 2024

"You’ll want this spot’s famous hot fudge sundae with homemade whipped cream, walnuts, seasonal fruit toppings, and a fresh bing cherry on top. Or, try a classic banana split, ice cream soda, or a slice of ice cream pie. If you’re just going with a cone or cup, the best flavor is ginger. They’re located in a renovated barn that now looks like a very convincing old-fashioned ice cream parlor, with tables both inside and out. " - jennifer mattson

Overall a great experience for ice cream and other delicious treats/choices. 🍦👍 They were very creative with some of their options. The flavor was good. The place was packed and is known for good quality! Prices are about the same with two scoops at $6. There is plenty of outdoor seating and some parking. If you have found my review helpful please give me a thumbs up 👍 and feel free to follow me for future reviews.

Google
Great creamy tasting ice cream. Maple Walnut ice cream is amazing. They have 2 locations nearby each other. Today I am visiting the Harwich location. The other location is 3 mile from here at Dennis Port. Each location has a large parking lot and plenty of seating outdoor. They also have tent at their outdoor seating. The Dennis Port has also a large indoor seating. This location is cash only, I am not sure about the Dennis Port location. ATM is nearby at Cucumber Farm. In the summer time mostly long line forms.

We were vacationing in the area and just happened upon this place and being vegan, I wondered if they had vegan ice cream, so we checked it out. They did, indeed, have vegan selections, so we got some. It was pretty good. High-priced for what you get, but at least they had something I could order, unlike most ice cream shops, so high marks for that. Big parking lot and it was pretty crowded, but we found a spot. Waiting in a long line with no social distancing and no one wearing masks but us and maybe two other people. Sad, but the whole area is like that. We got our ice cream and sat far away from others. So a decent evening all in all. I'd give it two stars for everything, but it gets three because it had vegan options.

Google
Been having Sunday School I CE cream since they opened in Denise Port in the 70's. Still the best on the Cape.

Google
Don't skip! This place was highly recommended and I can see why. Super delicious with so many flavor options.

Google
Decided to try this place based of its notoriety, and given the name I had to order the Sundae. I think I made a mistake and didn’t custom tailor as figured it would knock my socks off as is (given the price...$7.49 I believe) and it was mediocre at best. Sundae school is certainly worth a stop while on vacation, and I will try it again, but nothing about the ice cream stood out. The facility and staff however were top notch!

Google
Excellent hard scoop flavors, toppings, and options. I felt like a kid again, and the service was great. Butterscotch and marshmallow topping, oh my!

Google
Sundae School serves awesome ice cream with a wide variety of flavors and add-ons/toppings that are just plain better than what you might be used to getting. The whip cream is real and it was instantly a hit with my wife. We loved everything we got, and we wished we had known it was going to be this good so we could fit in another excuse to get out there on our trip. The only negative is that it's cash-only; however, there's an ATM outside the building ($3 transaction fee).

Yelp
Ice cream was fantastic. Unique flavors and delicious. Line moved very fast. Lots of places to sit outside. I would highly recommend.

Yelp
I reviewed the Dennis location, but never this one! What a gem. I always look forward to my trips to sundae School, and this did not disappoint. First, you must always order a sundae here! They are famous for their whipped cream made fresh, their rich, chocolate fudge, and their firm, huge and super ripe fresh cherry. I got my Sundae with maple walnut ice cream, fresh, whipped cream, pudding like hot fudge, walnuts, and a fresh cherry. Enough said... We waited in line for about 25 minutes on a Sunday night at 9:30 PM. As an FYI, it was empty towards the later hours of closing at 10:30. Wait even if you see a big line, it's worth it!

Yelp
I hate to do this, because I remember loving to come here years ago, but when I saw someone walk away with a $9 sundae that I probably could've eaten in under a minute, I just can't give more than 3 stars.

Bunky M.

Yelp
I just purchased two regular Sundays with a total of four extra toppings. The kid with the white blonde hair charge me $35.61 for those two Sundays. I asked him to explain it, he started to and I walked away. If $36 for two Sundays is acceptable you people should be ashamed of yourself. And if he was wrong and by my calculations, he is about $10 off? He needs to be spoken to. I will never come back there again nor will I ever tell anyone to frequent your establishment. $9.45x2 = $19.90 4 extra toppings @.85 cents a piece = $3.40 19.90 + $3.40 = $23.30 . Tax ? Even if I paid you 10% , Sundae School still ripped us off by $10.00. I live right down the road, have lived here for decades and never ever have been so been so discouraged . I reiterate, I will tell anyone that asks or anyone in conversation about my experience there. Wake up folks. Gross . Just gross .

Yelp
Ice cream is very meh. Outside is dirty and messy. Overpriced as well. Go to the store and buy Ben and Jerry's instead.

Lisa D.

Yelp
2 scoops of ice cream in a large sundae for over $12 is ridiculous half as much as last year!

Yelp
Love it! it was my first in Orleans by Nauset Beach for many years. My Mom liked it too!

Yelp
It comes down to...are you a Sundae School or Schoolhouse ice cream person....Until this year, I had only been to Schoolhouse, and this summer we made our way to Sundae School. Flavors: - I am loving the espresso chip ice cream. Not only is it a great coffee flavor, but it is filled with large chocolate chunks that really make this ice cream memorable. I thought about it for 2 days straight and had to go back and get another scoop. Almond Joy: Woooow. Complete with coconut ice cream, little pieces of almonds (correct - not whole almonds, little pieces which makes it so much easier to eat and tastes better), and chocolate chunks. - Grasshopper: This was good, but not my favorite. - Raspberry oreo: Delicious flavor. Benefits of Sundae School: - You can use a credit card to pay (who has cash these days?) - They have many people working, at least 5 windows where you can order so the line moves fast - The line is covered, so if it is raining you don't get wet. - There is a lot of seating, some of it covered, so when it rains you can still enjoy your ice cream - So much parking is available - They are open until 10pm every nigh

Yelp
Great place for ice cream and sundaes. Some original flavors and traditional. Line at window organized so not a long wait. Check out these pics

Yelp
Yum, Yum, Yum! My family and I enjoyed coming here and even on a cloudy day it is a perfect treat to feel refreshed. They have a wonderful selection of flavors and the portions are not crazy. Like some other places. Please note this is cash only!! I enjoyed their special ice cream of the day, which was Oreo and cookie dough, which was called the cookie monster. My daughters sampled, and got the watermelon, however, preferred mine :-) they have a set up for a pretty long line and I assume during peak season it gets very crazy. We came the last week of June before the busy season picked up. They do have a lot of outdoor season seating and seem to keep the line going. We enjoyed coming here after having dinner at 3 Monkeys restaurant down the street. We look forward to coming back to both places.
google avatar

Yelp
The best ice cream on the cape. The line is not bad at all. You order your ice cream at the window. You aren't waiting for long which is a good thing if you go at 7 pm. I liked how you are covered if it's raining and you won't get wet. My nephew and my whole family loved their ice cream. It was so creamy and so good! I would give it an 9 out of 10.
google avatar

William T.

Yelp
My coffee heath ice cream was super melty, needed a cup on the side. Tasted alright, but the price was ridiculous for the size cone I got, probably the smallest cone on the cape.

Molly L.

Yelp
I've been coming here FOREVER. It's been a family favorite for a long long time. Recently, I heard the news about the switch in ownership and had to make a trip there. For the last two years, Sundae School offered credit card payments, which made it a LOT easier for us (who has a BIG family). We shower up to a small small sign that said "cash only, sorry for the inconvenience." There were no warnings that cards were no longer accepted. And on top of it all, the ATM wasn't working. Just a pretty huge letdown. They also got rid of a lot of the fun old signs in the inside! Some of that stuff has been up there since I was a kid (many many years ago). Just a bummer to see so much change due to new owners. Ice cream is the same as it's always been. If the recipes change though, that'll be the ultimate bummer.

Yelp
You could see in the photos-- the sundae looks perfectly delicious. But in reality-- it wasn't too tasty. The hot fudge lacked the true flavor a real good hot fudge should have. The whipped cream looked fresh but it didn't have any flavor. The ice cream itself was fine -- not incredibly creamy nor was I blown away by the flavors. On an August night at 6 there were just a few people on line. When we drove back by it after 8 pm it looked like 100 people on line. Crazy popular place but I wouldn't return.
google avatar

Frank G.

Yelp
The parking is ample and the long lines move quickly at this great homemade ice cream parlor. They have two locations 3 miles apart and the service at both are terrific. The sundaes come with homemade hot fudge or marshmallow sauce and how many places spoon on the whipped cream! A Bing cherry on top, but watch out for the pit. The ice cream is rich and full of natural flavor.

Michael F.

Yelp
Always a must have. Love the real whipped cream and fresh berries on top of almost any kind of ice cream they have. Expect a line a cape fav.
google avatar

Emily W.

Yelp
First time going and no wonder the line is long, their ice cream is so good! The lines go quick since they have about 6 windows to take orders. The only thing I didn't like that much personally was the whip cream. It's very thick, you can tell it's homemade. I felt like there was more whole cream than ice cream. Next time I might not get any whip cream it as for very little. Otherwise, I'm definitely going back!
google avatar

Karisa W.

Yelp
Delicious ice cream! They have a lot of flavors and specials. We got the Sharks Tooth special which was black raspberry with white chocolate chips.
google avatar

Leigh P.

Yelp
Positives: - Speedy service (lots of staff) - Decent selection of flavors - The most variations of Oreo ever (Chocolate, strawberry, raspberry, coffee, and Cookie & Cream) - Good quality ice cream Negatives: - Small servings/scoops (Surprisingly small) - Staff that asked 2x what we ordered (and there were only 2 of us)
google avatar

Yelp
What a cute name for an ice cream shop! Pretty decent sundae. I got the s'mores flavor; I have had better s'mores ice cream elsewhere but I couldn't resist all the hot fudge and homemade whipped cream it came with. Cute place and there was a big tent with some options for outdoor seating. Nice place for the family to come after dinner and make some memories.

Yelp
Their original sundae - 2scoops hot fudge and butterscotch and marshmallow sauce topped with one real cherry. I've had this several times. Each time is better than I remember it before. Love love this place. More than just simple ice cream.

Michelle R.

Yelp
Just got two 2-scoop cups and brought home to eat. One of the bowls had 1 flavor wrong! . To spend $13 for 4 scoops and get one wrong - that's not good. It wasn't crowded or busy. I know the kids are supposed to remember the orders and not write it down.... but then they need to get it right!!! Have had this same issue for 3 straight summers. Each summer we switch to a different place. Had hoped new ownership might lead to a different result. Guess not. Looks like we are "one and done" this year.
google avatar

Kristie H.

Yelp
I'm not really a sundae person, but I really enjoyed their hot fudge sundae. The freshly made whipped cream and cherry made a big difference!
google avatar

Michelle T.

Yelp
Excellent ice cream! They do a great job with social distancing during the covid pandemic. The staff is super friendly & very efficient. They have plenty of outside seating. Some of our favorite flavors are: Bass River Mudd Coffee Oreo Grasshopper Strawberry Mocha The ice cream is creamy & very flavorful
google avatar

Brian L.

Yelp
IMHO ice cream joints fall into two categories, the soft serve, no-frills, watery hot fudge type, then there's the hand-made, attention to detail, travel the extra 10 minutes types. Sundae School is definitely the latter. Tons of choices, high-quality products, super-friendly staff, and a great atmosphere. Very busy, so there will be lines, but the staff works diligently so the wait is not long. Definitely recommend.
google avatar

Julie R.

Yelp
Best ice cream I have had in a long time. Gets busy in the evening so be prepared to wait a bit but its worth it!

Alex M.

Yelp
Love the ice cream, hate the lines. We started coming here after they sold their Orleans shop to Smitty's (sp?), we all (several families) have loved the Sundae School experience for many years. This place is much further, the quality remains excellent. Only downside: you could spend half your vacation in line (can you say "Disney"?). I guess that's what you do when you really want the product, but it does make other ice cream shops more attractive. Otherwise, it has been one of our faves, now in a new-to-us location.
google avatar

Stephen K.

Yelp
I loved this ice cream so much! My 2 daughters and I thought it was the best place on the Cape by FAR.
google avatar

Van V.

Yelp
A popular spot for an expensive splurge. Big parking lot with parking bouncers as employees along with scoopers. This pix of their sundae shows it is not that large but sets you back about $7.50. Yes, that heath bar coffee ice cream, hot butterscotch and real whipped cream are good. But at certain price points, I find certain supermarket brands good too. Yet we all need a scoop shop sometimes.

Miss P.

Yelp
While I'll never fully understand why these sundaes are so damn superior to all others, I suppose it has something to do with the real hot fudge, fresh whipped cream and actual non-maraschino cherry. But, honestly, the ice cream itself is really great too. Quick service, spectacular outdoor seating options including picnic benches under picturesque trees and a tent for nasty weather, plus a ridiculous amount of parking. We come every time we're on the Cape even though we stay almost an hour away. You honestly can't go wrong with the Sundae School.

Scarlett M.

Yelp
incredible ice cream my favourite ever recommend the cookie dough it's so good oh my god
google avatar

Jess H.

Yelp
Sundae school is so overrated; I've been a few times and tried different flavors and every time I'm disappointed in the taste. It may have been better a few years ago, but it's just not very flavorful these days! Check out Seagulls downtown instead
google avatar

Andrew L.

Yelp
Oreo crunch was amazing! I can not believe how they make their own whipped cream, Oreos, and batter! Every year when visiting the cape I visit sundae school and every year it's better than ever.
google avatar

Jay G.

Yelp
Small scoops, long lines and high prices. The ice cream is okay, the sorbets are very good. Lots of parking and good outdoor seating.

Madison B.

Yelp
At little expensive for ice cream but worth it! The mocha chip, mocha Oreo, and espresso chip were amazing!
google avatar

Rebecca S.

Yelp
Sundae School is the place to go if you're interested in visiting a tourist attraction that plays on old time nostalgia (and you don't mind bad service!) The ice cream itself is pretty good, but the portions are SMAll and the price is HIGH. Did i mention the bad service? It usually takes about 15 minutes to get 1 ice cream cone. That's after you've waited your turn in line. The owners make the employees pool their tips and they redistribute to non tipped employees, including the gardener!!! I probably wouldn't care much about being polite or efficient either!
google avatar

Jo H.

Yelp
Awesome fresh homemade ice cream! Probably one of the best I've had in a long time. Highly recommend! I had the butterscotch sundae and it was very yummy.
google avatar

Ryan E.

Yelp
I have been coming to this location for years and always try to get ice cream here every time we come to Cape Cod. Overall the ice cream is fantastic, the service is great, flavor options are good, and many toppings to choose from. Only knock on this place is the small portion sizes.

Beth C.

Yelp
Ice cream was delicious! Prices are average. I love the atmosphere. There was a line on Memorial Day weekend but the staff kept it moving quickly! Great teamwork. This was our first time here but will definitely be back.
google avatar

Elizabeth R.

Yelp
Very good ice cream. Fast and friendly service. Good size ice cream portions. Definitely will be back!
google avatar

Dil S.

Yelp
Cash only ice cream spot with plenty of outdoor seating and parking as well as 4 tables indoor. Tons of flavors and toppings to choose from. Quick, friendly service in a great location.
google avatar

Sarah W.

Yelp
I visited on a Saturday before heading over to the Wellfleet Drive-In Theater around 6pm. At first, I was surprised that an ice cream place had such a large parking lot, but later learned that right after dinner, every single spot is taken. I ordered the coffee Oreo ice cream, which was quite tasty. I've had better cones, but they were still solid. One thing I thought that impeded foot traffic was the service method. Once one person took your order, you stepped aside as they made it, then came back to the window to pay once it was ready. It caused confusion as to who was in line and who wasn't, but wasn't a huge deal for me since it wasn't particularly busy. It would've made more sense to have one window for ordering, and one for pickup/payment. Then again, the place has been around for a while so I'm guessing it works during peak hours well enough. One thing I really appreciate, as someone who studies food, is that they have an allergy-aware freezer that holds a variety of flavors.
google avatar

Mi Gusta B.

Yelp
Not worth it, two small scoops with a cone was $10. Ice cream quality is the same as any other parlor. Weak...
google avatar

Perri V.

Yelp
Forever obsessed with Sundae School. I have never had a bad experience here. Yes, the prices are high, but you're on the Cape in the summer. And yes, there might be a line, but again, you're on the Cape in the summer. This location had lots of seating, which is nice, and tons of parking. My favorite flavor is Bass River Mud, hands down. Coffee with almonds and fudge- what could be better? It's sweet, it's chocolatey, it's crunchy.
google avatar

Madeleine B.

Yelp
Raspberry Oreo is to die for! Great quality ice cream! Staff is friendly and helpful.
google avatar

Kevin L.

Yelp
. They only accept cash which for a place in 2020 is an oddity. They have an ATM which you can use..though they(and your financial institution) assess a charge for using it. Why not simply take cards? Venmo? PayPal? Something. The ice cream is okay. The portions are really small though. It was something like $6 for a Sunday which didn't even have a full scoop. It's somewhat to be expected to pay a premium for summer treats on the Cape. I get it. Descriptions of the ice cream flavors would be helpful. Service was friendly and quick.
google avatar

Bill S.

Yelp
Long time fan (35 years) but over $8 for a sundae the size of a Hoodsie cup is pure robbery. Yes, it's really good ice cream but come on, the prices are now just stupidly high. Plenty of other really good ice cream options on the Cape for much more reasonable prices.
google avatar

Kate L.

Yelp
A for taste, but our cones were fresh and flavorful while the following night we got a pre-packed tub to go, and it tasted like it had been pumped full of air... also not nearly as delicious and flavorful. Cookies/cream was a good choice if you are getting it freshly packed or a cone/cup. The reason I am giving 2 stars is false advertising in their website and signs stating "highest quality, freshest ingredients, blah blah". On the tubs, they list CARAGEENAN, corn syrup, mono/diglycerides and Polysorbate 80. All pretty toxic and banned at Whole Foods to give you an idea.... not really what I had in mind when we chose this place based on their INNACURATE description.
google avatar

Beachwood C.

Yelp
It's rare that the offshoot of a legend (the Dennisport original) holds up. This location definitely has its own vibe, but it's all good when the ice cream and sundae concoctions are this great. Don't miss the black raspberry. And go grab the kids a paper hat in the outdoor closet.
