I have a toxic relationship with Sundays. I came there for the first time a couple months after their opening, and, omg, I fell in love with their croissants instantly! Those were the best croissants I've ever had in my life, with lots of delicious cream, flaky bread, an incredible chocolate coating, and just a gigantic size.
We were literally coming there every weekend, sometimes twice, and we tried all the flavors they had. My favorite ones were Pistachio and Cookies and Cream, and my boyfriend was obsessed with Nutella-Banana and Rafaello.
So, as I said, we were coming to Sundays every week, but after some time, we started noticing some changes. The size of the croissant was becoming a bit smaller, and while in the beginning one croissant could take the whole plate, now it takes just half. But I would really let that slip if the flavor was still as magical as it had been before.
Sadly, the dough wasn't feeling as fresh anymore, but the main disappointment was the cream texture. It used to be a velvety cream, flavorful, and very delicate, but it was still holding its shape and space inside the croissant. Now it's a runny milk-like liquid that pours out of the croissant when you take a bite and covers all of your face and hands with a sticky, sweet substance. It's not pleasant anymore... Don't get me wrong, the croissants are not terrible, but they are not on the level they used to be.
Same thing with their coffee: they used to have a coffee machine like in coffee shops, but since they had lines waiting, they changed it to an automatic one. And what's the point now of using amazing coffee beans from Wells if they taste so average with this machine?
I am genuinely sad that quality was sacrificed for quantity at Sundays, although their motto says the opposite. I wish they cared less about the hype and more about their customers. I used to be a devoted fan, but now I am searching for delicious croissants again.
