The 18 Essential Cape Town Restaurants

"Dubran is better known for Indian food, but you don’t need to cross the country to enjoy samosas and curries. Chef Seelan Sundoo, who has three spots in the city, offers a flavor-packed menu with dishes like lamb kebabs, Kerala roasted chicken, and prawns from the South Coast cooked in a rich tomato sauce. Perhaps the most quintessentially South African dish is the bunny chow, a hollowed out half loaf of white bread loaded with chicken, lamb, prawn, or beans. Originated in KwaZulu-Natal, it’s delicious, warming, and like nothing else in South Africa." - Mary Holland, Sarah Khan

The crayfish curry was an absolute winner! Pani puri was also good. Staff very friendly and didn't wait long for food. Nice touch of complimentary chevro on the table. Recommended.

Sundoo Sea Point was absolutely fantastic! We were excited to try their Bunny Chow, and it did not disappoint - it was incredibly delicious. We went for the lamb curry filling! We also ordered extra paratha, which was perfect for enjoying every last bit of the curry. Highly recommend!

Back in CT after a year in the USA… had dinner again at Sundoo - the spinach dumplings are sublime, then had the crayfish/prawn curry and basmati rice!! Absolutely sensational.. Ate at Gymkhana in London.. this place is so much better and literally at a third of the price.. IF you like Indian fusion food don’t miss out Sundoo in Sea Point

We had the best curry tasting menu at Sundoo, the food was made according to our taste preference and a true taste explosion in your mouth. The waiter was attentive and friendly. We will definitely be back.

Service is very slow. Food is mostly quite great though. Although we ordered the mini prawn bunnies and its not a bunny but rather a piece of a slightly stale roll with sauce over it and one prawn each. The kerala chicken and lamb curry were great though

Incredibly tasty food, a nice spice when you ask for hot. Not "blow your head off" but you can actually taste all the flavours and feel the heat. Staff are friendly and attentive. I'd highly recommend anyone visiting Cape Town to make the trip to Sea Point and try!

This is a very lovely place in Sea Point. It is close to the road so the outside will be very busy. The food was a delight and the service was great. The lady kept checking that we were okay, she served with a smile and made small talk occasionally. I would say that it is child friendly. It was a wonderful experience. If you are looking for delicate and delicious Southern Indian cuisine then I would definitely recommend Sundoo.

Easily the worst food I have had in Cape Town. We had the chicken samosas with Mrs Balls Chutney, chicken wings, prawn curry and butter chicken. I had their chicken wings about two years ago and decided to return. The chicken wings was cooked and dumped in a can of tomatoes, the same with the prawn curry and I definitely think their butter chicken was runny and no spices used. Given the food quality around Cape Town and Sea Point I don’t foresee this place lasting long. The manager, waitering and kitchen staff were consistently on their phones and did not try to clear tables or even bring out food which was just standing getting cold.
