The 18 Essential Cape Town Restaurants

"Dubran is better known for Indian food, but you don’t need to cross the country to enjoy samosas and curries. Chef Seelan Sundoo, who has three spots in the city, offers a flavor-packed menu with dishes like lamb kebabs, Kerala roasted chicken, and prawns from the South Coast cooked in a rich tomato sauce. Perhaps the most quintessentially South African dish is the bunny chow, a hollowed out half loaf of white bread loaded with chicken, lamb, prawn, or beans. Originated in KwaZulu-Natal, it’s delicious, warming, and like nothing else in South Africa." - Mary Holland, Sarah Khan

We had craved a good curry and this spot came highly recommended by our friends. It didn't disappoint, however, the spice kick wasn't there per se. We came back again to try out their sushi, which was also quite delicious and well prepared. Good recommendation if you're have a crave for affordable Indian food.

The crayfish curry was an absolute winner! Pani puri was also good. Staff very friendly and didn't wait long for food. Nice touch of complimentary chevro on the table. Recommended.

Sundoo Sea Point was absolutely fantastic! We were excited to try their Bunny Chow, and it did not disappoint - it was incredibly delicious. We went for the lamb curry filling! We also ordered extra paratha, which was perfect for enjoying every last bit of the curry. Highly recommend!

We always thought you can’t mess up Indian food — Sundoo proved us spectacularly wrong. We ordered four starters, sides, and four mains. Each dish arrived swimming in what can only be described as tomato soup with ambition issues. Spices? Aromas? Depth? All mysteriously missing. Honestly, it reminded me of the supermarket glazed sweet-and-sour Chinese food I had to live on during my student days due to lack of funds… but at full price. The waitress was lovely and kept asking if we liked the food. We tried to explain that Indian cuisine isn’t about heat, but aroma, spice, and flavour. Nothing tasted authentic, everything tasted the same. She clearly didn’t understand, and no apology or offer to make it right was made. I genuinely doubt she has ever experienced proper Indian food before. We left Sundoo confused, hungry for flavour, and with our evening thoroughly ruined. Needless to say: first and last visit.

Back in CT after a year in the USA… had dinner again at Sundoo - the spinach dumplings are sublime, then had the crayfish/prawn curry and basmati rice!! Absolutely sensational.. Ate at Gymkhana in London.. this place is so much better and literally at a third of the price.. IF you like Indian fusion food don’t miss out Sundoo in Sea Point

We had the best curry tasting menu at Sundoo, the food was made according to our taste preference and a true taste explosion in your mouth. The waiter was attentive and friendly. We will definitely be back.

Service is very slow. Food is mostly quite great though. Although we ordered the mini prawn bunnies and its not a bunny but rather a piece of a slightly stale roll with sauce over it and one prawn each. The kerala chicken and lamb curry were great though
