17 Don’t-Miss Drive-Ins and Drive-Thrus in Northern California | Eater SF

"A very veggie drive-in in the Fair Oaks neighborhood of Sacramento, Sunflower is worth the slight detour off the freeway. Sunflower originally opened in 1978 and is still serving vegan and vegetarian burgers, burritos, chilis, and salads, with a focus on whole grains and natural ingredients. Super nutmeat burger, anyone?" - Becky Duffett

Classic Sacramento Restaurants and Eateries to Try | Eater SF

"Sunflower has been turning out scrumptious, plant-based “nutburgers” since 1978, well before Impossible Burgers were a gleam in a venture capitalist’s eye. Many Sacramento chefs have tried to duplicate the texture and taste of the famous Sunflower nutburger, to mixed results. Some have almost mimicked the rich taste that the nuts lend, but no one yet has nailed the crispy-not-crumbly texture. The small cafe, with indoor and outdoor seating and exotic chickens roaming about, is perched atop a vertiginous parking lot and often slammed with locals and click-clacking spandex wearers who culminate a long cycle with a nutburger, nutburger patty melt, or nutty taco." - Becky Grunewald

We love this place! We came here for the first time over 15 years ago and it hasn’t changed a bit. Evening on the menu is the same which is nice. Our favorite is the mushroom millet burger and the nut burger. Plus the vegan cookies are yummy. We miss seeing the roosters and chickens around, and it’s definitely quieter because of it.

Google
The vibe here is fantastic! The ladies who work here are always in a good mood, smiling. The environment is clean and natural, very inviting, the outdoor seating makes you feel like it’s your backyard. Healthy options for all as well as for vegans. The nut burger is a local favorite, full of flavor. The vegan burrito is HUGE and the PB&B is loaded with bananas and honey and tons of peanut butter. Potato salad is also a summer special, flavor bursting!

I recently visited Sunflower Drive-In in Sacramento and had the opportunity to try their famous Nut Burger. Sunflower Drive-In is well-known for its wide range of vegetarian and vegan options, and it certainly lived up to its reputation. The Nut Burger was a delightful surprise. The patty, made from a blend of nuts and other wholesome ingredients, had a satisfying texture and a rich, nutty flavor that was unique and delicious. It was well-seasoned, with a perfect balance of savory and slightly sweet notes. The burger was served on a fresh, whole-grain bun and topped with crisp lettuce, juicy tomatoes, and a creamy sauce that added an extra layer of flavor. The ambiance of Sunflower Drive-In is charming and laid-back, with an inviting outdoor seating area perfect for a casual meal. The staff was friendly and efficient, making the experience enjoyable and hassle-free. Sunflower Drive-In is an excellent spot for anyone looking for tasty vegetarian and vegan options in Sacramento. The Nut Burger is a standout item I highly recommend, and I look forward to trying more of their menu. Whether you're a vegetarian, vegan, or just looking to try something new, Sunflower Drive-In is worth a visit!

Google
The food has been consistently fantastic all the years I been coming here. Always worth any wait you might experience. The Super Nachos are my favorite.

Zina P.

Google
First-time experience. There were plenty of vegan options along with gluten-free options. There are a lot of options, from sandwiches to salads. There were plenty of options for smoothies. I decided on the nachos that were delicious. Just needed a little more chips. The egg salad sandwich was delicious. The seating area is very small but you can enjoy outdoor seating.

Google
Been coming here for years. The best homemade veggie patties are served here. Your mouth and stomach will want more of this healthy yummy sandwich. The photos shown are what we had. My husband and I shared a super nut burger with extra sauce. They do charge for extras like more sauce or pickles. Great fresh juice and smoothies here. Hot and cold food options. This place is a gem and has been serving the community for years. If you want healthy but yummy come here. Always the same good food at reasonable prices and big enough to share.

Mindy M.

Google
Vegan patty melt add pickles SO good 🤤 I don’t know why I don’t eat here more often. And it’s a house made nut patty instead of store bought fake meat. Yum.

Google
As a local one of my favorite places to eat at! Just expect a wait on weekends and late afternoons in the summer. I’m a vegan and their nut burger is my favorite! Big fan of how loaded with sprouts and veggies is such a happy mouthful! Oh! And the brownies can’t be beat! 😍

Yelp
This gem in Fair Oaks has become my go-to spot! It's got that natural charm and an array of Vegan options that even surprise the seasoned veggie enthusiasts. Forget the stereotype of bland salads - their menu boasts hearty, flavorful choices. Personally hooked on their sandwich melt; it's a symphony of loaded cheese , a guilty pleasure that rivals biting into a messy Carl's Jr Western Cheese Burger. No kidding, it's that satisfying! For a perfect day out, bring the kids and take a leisurely stroll in old town Fair Oaks, capping it off with a pit stop here. The picnic tables are perfect for soaking up the weather while relishing your meal. Highly recommend!

Yelp
Service was a bit slow on the weekend, but perhaps good food takes a little bit longer. We probably waited 15-20 mins for burgers. There is minimal indoor/outdoor seating. Either prepare to sit on the sidewalk, wait for seats to open up, sit in your car, or take your food to go. The food was good. We got the nut burger with different salsas. Would come back for the food. Not too much of an ambiance.

Yelp
Forgot to mention on other review... I believe they are a vegan and/or vegetarian restaurant. :)
google avatar

Yelp
Sooo adorable and healthy too! This was my first time here, and the chickens wandering around was so cool! Definitely will be back and want to take my friend who I call sunflower and she's vegan! Lol
google avatar

Yelp
Oh yes!!! Love this place! Super avocado is my go to... hubby gets the nut burger and I always need a bite! I can't believe I love this place as much as I do as a non-vegetarian !! Amazing vegan experience! The roosters running around are a bonus!! They are kinda slow and the parking lot sucks but the sandwiches are worth it !!
google avatar

Nancy L.

Yelp
Wanted to try this place for the longest time as it was recommended by a colleague! We wanted to try everything so we ordered the mushroom millet, nutburger, and patty melt. Honestly all 3 were soooooo good! My favorite had to be the nutburger but the other 2 were also delicious! All the ingredients were extremely fresh and each bite was filled with texture and flavor! The cashier recommended the carrot juice as it is freshly made. We were skeptical since we aren't the biggest carrot fans but we are so glad we ordered it. The first sip may be overwhelmingly carrot-like but each sip tastes better and better and after a couple sips, we were obsessed! Would highly recommend the carrot juice. We will definitely be back for more healthy, delicious, vegetarian food!

Yelp
Y'all this Sacramento classic veggie/vegan spot is one of my favorite! The nutburger and chips/salsa are a must when you visit. You won't leave hungry. This place is the best! You must specify vegan on the burgers and keep an eye out for the chickens. This cute little hippie spot/order at the counter kind of spot is perfect for those cool summer nights!

Yelp
Before I went vegan this place was a go to for me. I can't get enough of their super nut burger!! Been eating here for years. I tell them I need it vegan and they take care to make it so. I've tried a few other items and nothing hits the spot better than the nut burger and super nut burger. Maybe the nut taco. No harassment from locals as I eat my food in the park will stop me from coming. What is the harassment? For some reason I've been warned...not too nicely... and more than once...not to drop off a rooster. I HAVE NO ROOSTERS! Why do I look like I'm going to pull a rooster out of my trunk?! All I have is just a super nut burger and my poodle.

Yelp
Quaint, quirky, cozy Sunflower drive in is a great destination spot for lunch. My first visit here was worth the drive across the county. The patty melt is cooked perfectly, with deep flavors of grilled onion, nut patty, sliced tomato and mayo on multigrain toasted bread. I've got a new reason to take the scenic drive along fair oaks blvd, from midtown to the village of fair oaks. Pleasant and professional staff. My order was ready in about 10 or 15 minutes. Easy parking on Tuesday around 11a.m.

Yelp
Get all your veggies in and enjoy doing it! This place has become the dedicated lunch spot for the family when the parents are in town. If you have a family of carnivores, that's saying a lot for this humble little drive in restaurant. A cult favorite, Sunflower Drive In, is making carnivores and herbivores alike smile and smile BIG. So many sandwiches, nut burgers, tacos and salad options. I always get the fresh vegetable juice and that's non negotiable. It's so delicious and makes me feel wonderfully energized! My other favorite choices are the egg salad sandwich and the pesto sandwich. Delicious, healthy and so fun to eat. Even the kids love the smoothie, juice and vegan dessert options.

Yelp
10 stars!! Beyond delicious and satisfying. The food at this place is impressive, I wish it was next door! You don't have be vegan to enjoy this wonderful nutty, cumin, paprika, cayenne, garbanzo brand, sprouts and other good stuff I. The ingredients. It's good to treat your carnivores tummy to some green happy healthy stuff if not often, once in awhile. Go here today! Seriously, you'll thank me for it :) Try the tacos or falafel pita- it's exquisite taste.

Yelp
Interesting vegan burger. We ordered over the phone on our way to the place around Thursday 7pm. We got the super nutburger. We were able to pick up the. Burger right away when we parked and just ate in the parking lot. It's good to try once since I'm not vegan. But I'm sure vegans will appreciate this. The bun is on flat side. The nut patty is ok, but it's just too veggie for me lol

Yelp
Stopped here for lunch on a walk with friends and what a cool spot this was! I had the nutburger, which was loaded with fresh greens (alfalfa sprouts galore!) & a flavorful pickle-y sauce. As a meat-eater, I was wholly satisfied with this vegetarian creation. My one tip for those trying the nutburger for the first time--ask for extra napkins, or keep your burger in its wrapper! The chopped salad and sprouts can get a little messy.
google avatar

Lynn H.

Yelp
The super nut burger is so good! I tried the vegan brownie with mint and wow, it was delicious! Limited indoor seating, some tables outside too.

Laura S.

Yelp
I had the most delicious grilled cheese with avocado. The staff is courteous and helpful. There is plenty of seating outdoors and they are dog friendly.
google avatar

Cyn D.

Yelp
So good!!! This is the spot!! I love the ambiance and location and the customer service. They work so hard here because they are ultra busy. The food is fresh, tasty and fulfilling in a healthy way. The vegan potato salad was delicious, the veggie drink was just enough and had a nice earth taste to it. Thank you for the amazing food! Great prices as well and outdoor seating.
google avatar

Yelp
The nutty taco is always good. Sometimes the wait is long. Today it was fast. Same picnic table parking lot seating as always. Definitely worth a trip
google avatar

Phyllis M.

Yelp
The nut burger is great! A local favorite. Good potato salad. Will definitely go again. Just be prepared on the weekend for a bit of a wait

Yelp
Nutburger and smoothie were good! But I was very disappointed by the chocolate chip cookie. On their window, it was advertised as made in house since it's pictured on a cookie sheet but what I received was a factory packaged cookie (think Mrs. fields but not as good). I wish I took a picture but I threw it out before thinking to take a picture. False advertising, please let customers know what they are buying. Don't display a picture of a cookie that looks baked in house and provide a factory packaged cookie.

Yelp
I really didn't want to have to post this but the last time I ate here I got sick. I'm concerned about how well they clean their vegetables before juicing them to make the mixed vegetable juice. However, it may have even been the sprouts themselves. I've never had this happen before, but they did have new people and they were in a hurry to push out as many orders as possible. It still took about an hour for us to receive our food and drink, but perhaps they were short-handed? I really hope that I'm wrong and that they just had some bad sprouts. All in all, it's completely turned me off from eating here for now. As you can see from my previous reviews, I really did enjoy the food and I also want to give them the benefit of the doubt... However, this was the only thing I ate other than some pretzels the day I started feeling unwell.

Yelp
VERY disappointing return visit. And after getting ripped off, we won't ever be back. First, the positive: The three nutburgers out of the four we ordered and PAID FOR, were good. One star. (More on the missing burger to follow). The chips in their "Nachos" are simply....gross. And, please look on their website - they show triangle shaped chips in TWO of their photos. However, the nasty ones we were given were ROUND. False advertising to boot! They looked terrible, and they tasted even worse. Fortunately they serve them separate from the toppings, so we were able to toss the chips, and substituted with tostitos when we later got home. Don't order the nachos unless you like gross flavorless chips! Pesto pasta salad - had barely any pesto on it. We don't recommend that at all unless you like plain cold pasta. We brought that home so we could add some veggies and pesto to it. The worst part was the girl who took our order. We placed our order with her very clearly and slowly. She then repeated it back to us, AND we also reviewed it on the screen on their card reader. They do not give you a printed receipt - just a cardboard tag with your order number on it. WELP, we only got three nutburgers instead of the four we ordered. We immediately brought this to her attention. She insisted we were given the FOUR, but we were still standing there at the counter and were able to pull out everything we received and show the entire order to her. She then said "Well I can charge you for another one, but you'll have to wait for it." What? She could CLEARLY see what we had ordered, as we hadn't even left the WINDOW! She could CLEARLY see four people, and still insisted that we had received the four nutburger, even though we had NOT. We kept showing her the items that we had received, but she wasn't going to budge. We weren't going to wait another long period of time NEVER MIND pay for ANOTHER burger that we had already paid for! So we left, REALLY regretting the 15% tip we left for her, and really frustrated that she refused to acknowledge that we did not get the fourth burger (that we ALL agreed we had ordered and paid for!). Grrrrrr.... I have since read many other reviews and this "missing item" is a regular complaint. Hmmmm...

Yelp
This place was amazing! We ventured down to this place and ordered 2 nut burgers. Added avocado to one. They service was great and the line moved quickly. They didn't take long to get us our food and we got it to go. It was a really good experience and the food was delicious. The nutburgers were great and we got a side of their pesto pasta salad which was also really good!

Yelp
I've been going there for a couple of decades. The main reason for this review was yesterday June 19th I put in my order and waited patiently 30 minutes for my meal. Yes, the food is De-licious! It is worth the wait. ***For the 1st time I was given my order with a racist bias by the somewhat older lady with black short hair.*** I waited at the pick up window. Everyone picked up their order flawlessly. BUT, when my number was called, she looked at me, gripped the to-go bag towards herself and said in a gruff manner "WHERE'S YOUR NUMBER!" No one who previously picked up their order was served in this gruff manner. ALL other customers were served in a nice and friendly manner. ***Also in all these years I've never been served in such a gruff and unwelcoming way! ***Did she think I wanted to steal someone else's food? Did she think I was homeless and wanted to steal someone else's food? Either way I should have firmly voiced my displeasure at that time, But I was so taken aback, I just reluctantly took my food and left. This saddens me, it's not the way to treat ANY customer. I'm saddened and disappointed (By the way, mainly) the entrees are $9 and not $6 as shown on the opening Yelp page.

Erica K.

Yelp
Food is pretty good, nothing to write home about. The problem lies with the entitled, stuck up employees. They act like the customers are a huge burden and how dare they patronize their establishment and pay money to be fed. They act like they are moving mountains for you by assembling your food as slowly as they possibly can. I probably won't go back. No food is worth that..the deserve to go out of business.

Yelp
Sunflower is closed temporarily closed. See updated hours above from the restaurant but looks like the Sunflower is closed for remodeling. The parking lot is taped off. Pick up trucks and a large trash dumpster in front of the building. Looking forward to the newly remodeled Sunflower!

Jessica M.

Yelp
I'm not a huge vegetarian person, but this place was recommended by a local. I got the nut burger, as it is the most recommended in the reviews, and the review did not disappoint! The burger is pretty big and is packed with toppings. Will be back to try other items! I would recommend going earlier if possible as the parking can get busy.

Marina L.

Yelp
Food was sooo good and the worker was super sweet. I definitely will be returning! I was pleasantly surprised that the burger tasted just as good as a meat burger. The outdoor seating is nice, i do wish their parking was more spacious but not their fault.
google avatar

Virgie M.

Yelp
Great food, fresh ingredients, nice atmosphere, reasonable prices it's worth the long wait. Make friends!
google avatar

Yelp
This spot has a nice, local, community vibe with beautiful surrounding trees. I went in spring and had a nut burger and a smoothie. I was impressed by all the fresh veggies and great flavor! The burger was so filling and healthy-tasting. I went with co workers and had such a perfect experience. Good food and A+ experience. Looking forward to going back soon!

Yelp
My dad started taking me here when I was just a little kid, which was easily 20+ years ago. The Super Nut Burger (whether vegan style or not) is TO DIE FOR. It is still just as good as it was 20 years ago, and I'm sure for a long time before then. The fact that Sunflower has survived as long as it has, especially with only one location, is a testament to the food they serve. Heads up- there's usually a decent wait time, but honestly that's part of the experience. My dad and I would sit at the top of the parking lot, talking and watching the chickens while waiting for our number to get called out. It's a quick walk to the chicken park, and you could even make a day out of it by going to check out Redbridge and enjoy the beautiful atmosphere of Fair Oaks. The tradition remains, however now it is my son and I sitting at the same spot at the top of the parking lot, watching the chickens and eagerly waiting our food.
google avatar

Yelp
Actually enjoyed my smoothie quite a lot, it's a bit on the expensive side, but definitely was good to drink. I can't say how good some of the sandwiches or burgers are though, I can't imagine I'd like it over a regular burger, but smoothie wise, it's pretty solid.

Yelp
Sunflower Drive In has the BEST vegetarian tacos and burritos EVER!! I highly recommend!

Abby G.

Yelp
had the vegan garden pesto with sprouts- best sandwich i've ever had in my life hands down!!! employees were so sweet and kind as well. best place for a vegetarian/ vegan bite in the sacramento area

Danie C.

Yelp
It's a cute place. They had a large selection of vegan food items. I like their baked goods goods.

Brooklyn J.

Yelp
I think I would give 5 stars for food and 0 stars for customer service. The women that work the cash register are always so rude. I come here so often because I love the food but it's just a pain in the butt to have to deal with the workers here. Their attitude is horrible, they act very pompous and like they're better than everyone. So many positives about this place other than the customer service. The last 2 times I've been here they've been so rude and just smug. I went on 3/23 at 1:30pm and whoever was working the cash register was so rude.

Yelp
Sunflower Drive In, where have you been all of my life?! When I say that I've driven by this place a zillion times over the years, and I've never stopped to check them out, that even embarrasses me. Talk about a big mistake... I was finally able to rectify my mistake, and had lunch here. This is without a doubt, one of the best vegetarian/vegan restaurants that I've been to in a long time. The variety on the menu is enough to keep me coming back for a very long time! The nut burger. Yes, the most popular item on the menu, and after one bite, I get it. I truly get it. All I can say is that if I lived closer, I would be here all the time. I ordered my nut burger with a slice of cheese and no onions. They do charge extra if you would like the onions sautéed. Each bite not only was better than the last, but each bite made my tummy happy. I don't know what magic goes into this fabulous sandwich, but if you haven't tried sunflower drive-in, what are you waiting for?! Diners tip: ask for extra pickles. I wish that I had because they were so tasty. We also ordered a grilled cheese sandwich that was without a doubt, ooey, gooey goodness. Seriously, damn delicious. The bread, the cheese, the melt, all grilled to perfection. All dishes that they offer can be made completely vegetarian, or completely vegan. Just let them know. They are so super happy to accommodate everyone. Seating is limited and is currently still outside. I noticed that most people had call ahead orders, and were picking up orders faster than a drive-thru. This is old Fair Oaks, and they are pretty pet friendly. So if you want your puppy companion to tagalong with you for a meal, no worries! They will enjoy the traveling chickens and roosters that old Fair Oaks is known for. Everyone that works at the restaurant is super friendly, and their customer service is impeccable. Amazing food, reasonably priced, and your tummy will scream happiness! If you have not been to Sunflower, I'll say this again, what are you waiting for?!

Yelp
Day I came: Wednesday, June 14, 2023. Parking: Small and awkward. There's this pole that seems to have been hit plenty of times because nobody saw it. There's not much space for parking. Ambiance: Mostly outdoor seating and a few indoors but not much. Counter service. Bathrooms are indoor. More older people and a few with children. Doesn't seem like a hit with younger crowds. Service: Slow but friendly. I think the wait was about 20 minutes while I was caught in conversation with the friend I was talking to. They give you a number and you wait for them to call it. We kinda had to check on them because we hadn't heard our number for a while. Food: Not bad. I had a nut burger and my friend had the Mushroom Millet. I'd say the mushroom one was better because it was juicier. We ate them with chips and salsa which were good too. You have to say you want it fully vegan if that's what you're going for. Otherwise I think they put dairy products in it like real Mayo. Would I come back? Most definitely. I'd say it's fair to give them a solid 4 stars. Food is great, service was friendly but slow. Great place for vegans/plant-based eaters and vegetarians.

Yelp
I've tried nut burgers at many places n this is my favorite. Little heavy on the lettuce and sprouts but since most of it falls off not necessarily a minus! This is the first time I've seen so many rules on the windows, didn't affect my ordering process after I took a moment to read

Yelp
I love this place! It's located in the heart of fair oaks and is a community staple. The menu is pretty big with lots of options and they always have new seasonal items being added. Outdoor seating benches are great for a nice lunch outside. I tried the new Chick'n sandwich that they have and it's so so good! The burrito was also really good but isn't really wrapped like a burrito so it gets a little messy. Also tried the chili Mac with tortilla chips and it's was pretty good. The chili was super flavorful and just tastes like a classic chili but vegetarian. The mac and cheese is okay, nothing really special, but not bad. Would recommend their nachos and nut burger though, so good! Employees were nice, they accidentally put sour cream on our burrito even though we asked for none and they were nice about fixing and remaking it.

Carol J.

Yelp
I've been here before and knew it was known for long wait times, but an hour wait (literally) at a casual "drive-in" restaurant is simply ridiculous no matter what food you are preparing, especially with no apology or recognition of the long wait from the counter once it was done. Maybe put a sign at the order window warning of extended wait time in case customers don't have all day ? As for the food... I had the falafel sandwich. Now I love me some onions but if you are going to add a boatload of chopped onions that are ridiculously strong to a sandwich, you should at least soak then in a little water to take the bite off. They totally overwhelmed the sandwich. The falafel patty was on the thin side and very dry without much flavor. It did look good, though. (The food from my prior visit was better.) Very disappointed and would have loved to give a great review.

Mary S.

Yelp
I've been coming here for decades. The food has always been reliably good. I ordered the nut burger and it was not what I had in the past. It had a thick crust from frying and was very dry. I asked about the sauce for next time but was told there's an additional cost. Nominal, but still the nickle and dime philosophy they're using does not sit well with me. In the end, I'm pretty sure that I didn't get the nutburger patty but the falafel patty instead. Also ordered burritos that came out basically unwrapped in their tortilla so that when you took the paper off, they fell apart and couldn't be eaten by hand. This last experience leads me to feel like the people preparing the food need training and management doesn't care. I really hope this neighborhood institution takes note. It can be so much better.

Yelp
We thoroughly enjoyed our visit to this gem. The menu is quite impressive and the staff were nice and took time to answer our questions. I can't believe I'm just finding out about this place! But better late than never. So we arrived, parking was ample and walked over to the window to order. We decided on the millet burger and the mushroom millet along with potato salad. The mushroom millet was the favorite- we ordered a second one to share! It was very flavorful and filling. The millet burger was good - but not as good as the mushroom millet that we added vegan cheese to. The potato salad was fresh and good - just needed a little salt. We are looking forward to going back and trying the patty melt and the nutty taco. Definitely worth the stop - great vegan options and healthy fast food!

Yelp
Four visits so far. A couple of nut burgers, the chicken-less sandwich, nachos. Everything's delicious. My personal favorite so far is the chicken less sandwich. The toasted bread with the non chicken patty is great. Just recently we discovered how fantastic their milkshakes are. Not really milkshakes, I believe made with green yogurt, but they're delicious. Definitely get one with your burger!

Val Z.

Yelp
I ordered a burger, not knowing this place is vegan, or vegetarian.. Burger came, and yes it did not taste like a burger. They weren't even trying to mimic the taste tho. So I realized I wasn't eating a burger first bite. But dude, whatever it was, it was pretty dam Tasty!! I love my meat! But if I'm in the area I probably will swing by again. It was very unique and tasty!

Yelp
Food was good, but not satisfying. Due to NOT everything having VEGAN options. Was told they don't have vegan potato salad, when clearly they wrote it on they're description of their food options.... Service was disappointing. Cashier had a rude tone of voice when responding to my vegan questions. Need more seating areas with shading, to avoid the sun. Will not be going back!

Yelp
Sunflower Drive-in advertises itself as gluten free, but clearly they are not. There is no dedicated grill or workspace, etc. I quit going there, after I saw that they had my tostada on the grill, on the wheat tortilla... instead of the rice tortilla. When I pointed to the grill and told the curly-short-black-haired waitress it was a wheat tortilla, and then peeked a minute later, to see how the mistake was being corrected, she spread out her arms facing me, dodging from side to side in front of the pay window to block my view of the grill. However, I could plainly see them dumping my tostada filling off the wheat tortilla and onto a rice tortilla. The regular manager has told me when I inquired, that they are not rigorously gluten free. She is honest. But she isn't always there and folks don't think to ask if 'gluten-free' is really as claimed Too bad, because I enjoyed their menu otherwise... good portions, fresh, made-from-scratch homemade vegetarian/vegan delicious food. In a favorite Old Town location on the Park. I am posting your ad on this yelp page listing 'gluten-free' as one of your options. This needs a disclaimer (not dedicated cooking area) in the same sentence. For many celiacs, such as myself, damage consists of flattened digestive villi for 3 months. That is why we are usually short and thin.... For others who would like casually -prepared gluten-free, your business is just what they are looking for. Please make your disclaimer more clear, for when folks in a hurry don't mistake Sunflower for a place with dedicated cooking surfaces and food preparation implements, with trained GF cooks and servers... no taking a wheat wrap off a GF filling and calling it GF, because it is contaminated. Keep up the good work of providing fresh, local healthy vegetarian and vegan food for our community. ..And yes, it does take time to prepare food from scratch..... Sit on the huge community table inside or outside with the roosters and enjoy the Old Town Fair Oaks ambience. Sunflower is doing so much right! There just needs the words (not dedicated cooking tools) next to the word gluten-free.... Not posted remotely from words gluten-free.

Yelp
LOVE LOVE LOVE this place! Food is so good and they're doggo friendly. It's hard to find a good veg burger around this area, and Sunflower has the best. I do miss the chickens though...

Yelp
Tucked in fair Oaks by a four way stop. They have parking and picnic tables. The menu is larger than I thought. They have hot food and smoothies. The nut burger was amazing and the grilled cheese was tasty for little ones. It was a tad pricey but well worth it. Highly recommend supporting them!

Yelp
Ever since I started eating here regularly with my husband I've gained 22 pounds; in four months. I assumed using whole food ingredients would translate to healthier but in fact, it's not. I unfortunately added all the calories in their Super Avocado and Cheese (my favorite) and the calories came close to 600 CALORIES!!! Now I know why they don't show the food's calories on the menu... This is an alternative for fast food but it definitely has more calories than traditional fast food:,) Also my husband gained 16ibs and he does physical labor 5am-7pm so that's saying something... Beware of mixed nuts in their main menu items. I had allergic reactions to all of them which contain Cashew Nuts.

Yelp
Vegetarian/ Vegan walk up restaurant. They have tables outside and a a couple inside . The Nutty Taco is not to be missed . Also during the summer months they have a vegan potato salad that is also really good . When I'm in Sacramento visiting my mom this place is a must at least once during my trip .
