Directly across the street from the airport FBO is a restaurant connected to a bar--District 14 and Sunflower Kitchen. They share the same kitchen and offer great breakfasts starting at 6 AM in the morning. Lunches and dinners are available on both sides. Lindsay is the owner and is there all the time to make sure everything is perfect. I highly recommend giving these places a try!

First visit today was a good one. Let me start by saying the ONLY reason I didn't give service a 5 was the long wait. The rest of this os positive. 🙂 It's not often a breakfast place gets "over medium" eggs right but they nailed it. Senior menu for 55+ is appreciated!! The staff was professional. We were told at the door the wait for food would be about 45 minutes. It was closer to an hour. The food was really good and prices were right. Our coffee was topped off frequently while we waited, and during that time at least 3 employees checked on us. I love it when I see employees cleaning rather than standing around! They are doing things right! Give them a chance but bring your patience with you. 🙂

We were really excited when the Sunflower Kitchen opened, especially since we live right next door. Unfortunately, after giving this restaurant multiple chances, we’ve been consistently disappointed. It has the potential to be great, but the food just doesn’t measure up. We’ve tried breakfast, lunch, and dinner, and nothing has really impressed us. The eggs are usually fine, but overall, everything tends to be overly greasy. I once ordered the oatmeal, and it was served cold. They only offer margarine instead of real butter, which is a small detail but makes a difference. We also tried the steak, which was tough and dry, and the salad bar, which felt uninspired and not particularly clean. The chicken fried steak was grizzly. And they seem to always run out of items on the menu and you’re left scrambling trying to figure something else out. The location is fantastic, and the dining room is spacious with a nice atmosphere, but the food is what holds this place back. I really wish someone could come in and turn things around because this restaurant has so much potential.

Heard good things about Sunflower Kitchen, but I was disappointed. We will not be coming back. I had the chicken fried steak and pancake. The steak was crazy tough, I almost flung it off the plate every time I tried to cut into it with a knife. On top of it being tough, it was also super grizzly. The sausage and gravy had no flavor at all. The soda also tasted horrible, it was basically just soda water. The only good thing here was the service. Food would be a solid 1/10. The place felt really cheap, thin cutlery, basic chairs and tables and the plates were very cheap. For over $20 a person with the tip, I am dumbfounded.

Everything is great about this place. A rare find as they have a counter to sit at when it’s just one. The kitchen is REALLY slow for some reason and has been the death of many great places like this one. Food was great but it took 30 minutes plus for an omelette. That’s the only reason I gave it three stars. Again good food but it just took too long for it to come out of the kitchen.

It was a decent breakfast. The garden potatoes didn't have peppers and onions though. They were just cubed potatoes. But my eggs were done correctly. The chicken fried chicken was good.

My new favorite cafe in Hastings! The staff is very kind and attentive and the food is fresh and packed with flavor. Prices are fair and the coffee is to die for.

Been a couple of times food has been great. Servers are friendly and attentive. It's definitely becoming a favorite sitdown spot for me.

Yelp
We stopped to grab a bite to eat on Sunday around 12:30 and the place was packed! There were a few tables left and I figured it must be a great place! The service was quick and our party of 6 ordered breakfast and lunch. Though the kitchen staff was pushing the food out as quickly as possible, I thought the service was great. The entire staff was courteous and friendly. The food was spectacular and everyone walked out completely full and satisfied. You won't be disappointed!

Yelp
The Sunflower Kitchen is a great place to enjoy a made from scratch comfort food meal. We have eaten there three times when in Hastings and have been impressed with the great service, friendly atmosphere and most of all the fresh, made to order menu choices. Daily specials rotate. We have had several of the burgers ( Patty Melt) and my favorite the Chicken Fried Steak and eggs. Definetly homemade and cooked to order. A plus for Hastings to have such a great dining spot. The food is not fast food but worth the little extra
