Yelp
New location near a new ramen place and Target. In the same area as Costco Business. This bakery is still in their soft opening phase with a deal of buy 5 get 1 free! This allowed us to try several different items.
The set up is similar to other bakeries, where you grab a tray and some tongs to grab the baked goods. We went around 2pm and they still had a well stocked display of baked goods! From stuffed brioche donuts, concha, coconut raisin twists, mochi bread buns, croissants, savory buns, onion bread, etc!
Today there were new people in training still, not knowing which pastries were which and hot to use the register tablet. But all is ok because that takes time and I didn't mind waiting. It allowed us to look at the drink menu (although I must say that drink menu font was TINY!!). And look at the cake display case. The cakes looked beautiful, I loved how they used massive strawberries to decorate the cake. And they had cute cakes (bear design), pretty cakes (Ombre purple), mango cake, etc. They sell cake slices as well which is lovely! My friend says the Hokkaido Cream Puff is amazing too! In addition to this, they had roll cakes (tiramisu), ice box cakes, and more. They even had a little tray put out with samples of their almond cookies which I thought was nice.
The brown sugar boba smelled incredible and the coffee as well. I think next time I'll try the salted cream coffee. They have minimal seating inside, two tall tables that sits 2 people each.
We chose:
- Brioche Donut (Vanilla Custard): this was okay, the custard in the middle was sweet and well made. I didn't really care for the donut because it felt a little dense. But my mom enjoyed it! I think next time I would like to try the one with apple filling and toast it a bit so it's warmer! [They also had one with matcha cream filling or black sesame filling].
- 2 Black Sesame Mochi Bun: The bun was soft with a slight pull to it. Nice and airy! A small dusting of powdered sugar in the shape of a flower. The black sesame gives it that "not too sweet" taste and it's dark, rich, and nutty. It almost tastes like a Fried Sesame Ball, but without the mung bean filling. So if you're a fan of that and black sesame, this would be for you!
- Coconut Raisin Twist: So soft and delicious. The raisins are folded beautifully in the dough and the coconut flavor comes through subtlety. It's so nice! Highly recommend this one.
- Taro Mochi Bun: this had minimal amount of taro paste but it balanced nicely with the bun ratio. I liked it and it's not too sweet. Although, I could do without the sprinkle of black sesame on top. Recommend!! If I were to compare this to 85 Taro Bun-- I like Sunmerry over 85 because 85degrees has wayyy too much taro paste for my liking.
- Dirty Chocolate Bun: this is similar to a chocolatine with a dark chocolate shell on top. *
People may find that the items are similar to 85 Degrees (who had their 1st store in Taipei). Sunmerry Bakery started in Japan but it was then brought to Taiwan. Therefore being in the same regions, of course they will have similarities with the use of red bean, pork floss, taro, black sesame, etc.
Overall, I thought the packaging of each bun was nicely placed and neat. They even supplied gold twist ties if you wished for them to be closed. And they gave it to us in a big paper bag.
Would I come back? Most definitely yes, there are several items that I'd love to try! I recommend you come try them out for yourself as well. Maybe even trust the "Manager Recommend" sign and get out of your comfort zone. You may find a new pastry that you enjoy!
