This is the best vegan/no vegan restaurant I've been too love that they have both options for families and friends of different dietary needs can both eat with no problems! We ate the vegan chicken chow main and rice and multiple food it was all so good and the service is amazing 10/10 the server was so nice and welcoming we even got to try a vegan tiramisu and it was the best thing I've ever tasted!!! Definitely recommend this is our new Togo to place!! Also you have to try the passion fruit agua fresca it's amazing!!!

BE ADVISED that this is NOT a VEGAN ONLY kitchen. Sunny Express has plant based and meat based menus with one kitchen. The plant based food is more expensive. I like the dual Mexican/Chinese concept. I can eat a burrito for lunch and fried rice for dinner. I had the 2 entrèe meal from the Chinese menu with fried rice and veggie rolls. I also got a free Jackfruit taco since I visited these lovely souls on Cinco de Mayo.👌 The 2 entrèes I got were the Peppered "Steak" and the Thai Chili "Chickun." The food was delicious, and the portions were a good size.

You need to eat here!! Sunny Express has both Chinese and Mexican vegan food and it is SO GOOD! I got the orange nuggets (a small is 8!!) And the habanero wings, which are shredded chikn wrapped around sugarcane 'bones'. Incredibly flavorful and satisfying if you miss real meat. I also got a hibiscus steak burrito, their carrot cake, almond cookies (not vegan, but very delicious) and chileqilles for breakfast. I will absolutely be visiting here next time I'm in the area. Guilo was so sweet, and I'm happy that there's such good vegan food with amazing flavor in Compton!

the food here is really good!! the staff is very friendly and the food came out very quickly. they were kind enough to bring out soy sauce and sriracha without me asking plus a fortune cookie which i always appreciate. my only complaint is that i ordered the matcha horchata off the specials menu and it was $7.25!! 😵‍💫 i wouldn’t have ordered it had the price been listed…. but i think the food itself is fairly priced.

The food was very good, hot and cooked to order. None of the food was over cooked, too salty or too greasy. Something I only remember happening nearly 40 years ago. The chef came to our table and asked if we enjoyed our food. The seating area was clean and the food and drinks were brought out to us, with a very cold and filtered water. I didn't even ask for the water but was very happy to have it. The only reason I didn't give it five stars, (and this may be a bit too picky). I didn't quite like the location. Not the kind of area I would visit late in the day.

Thought I'd try out another Compton eatery. This one is called Summer Express (Chinese/Mexican) food. It's a wannabe Pandora Express. 2 entree meal cost around $14 rounded up. Food looks delicious. After 10 minutes, my tummy started getting queasy and I knew something wasn't gonna come out solid. Repeat: a solid no. Worse than Taco Bell because Taco Bell leaves a rock in your stomach, this gives you the runs. 😿

I really want to give this place 1 more star. Just missing a few things. For example they could serve some steamed veggies in the bowls. The flavor is good. Prices are reasonable. Owner is super nice. Haven't tried the pizza yet... you have to order 30 minutes ahead cuz they are frozen. The Chinese food tasted better than the tacos. I will have to try the breakfast 🌯 burrito. Thankful that we have a vegan restaurant close by. Oh the beef jerky they sell is the best.

This review is long overdue! About a year ago, I ordered catering from Sunny Express for my baby shower after a friend highly recommended them — and I’m so glad I did! From start to finish, the service was absolutely amazing. When I first inquired, the team was incredibly helpful and patient, guiding me through the catering options and making sure everything I chose would be a hit. I was able to sample a few items beforehand, and honestly, it was hard to decide because everything was so delicious. I had several vegan guests attending and wanted to make sure they felt included — Sunny Express delivered on that and more. The food was so good that even the non-vegans were going back for seconds. We basically had no leftovers by the end of the party 😅 The day of the event, the team arrived right on time, helped set everything up, and were as friendly and professional as ever. They truly helped make the day stress-free and special. Huge thanks to everyone who helped that day and to the amazing cooks behind the scenes who made such bomb food. Can’t wait to order again! -wish I would have taken pics but just go so busy :(

Oh my goodness... this food was DELICIOUS. Off the vegan menu I got the fried rice with steak potatoes and it was amazing . I'm not even fully vegan , yet this food was superb. I'll definitely be coming back and Tony was super friendly and so was the other person in the restaurant. AWESOME !!

First time visiting and it was delicious! Great meeting Tony who was very nice and offered me a free agua fresca half watermelon and half passion fruit so good. I usually drive to Whittier for vegan Chinese food so im glad there's a spot in Compton. The orange nuggets was so good and the fried shrimp was good too. The broccoli "beef" was not my favorite. But overall food was good!

Second time visiting here and things have drastically changed within less than a year. My first experience was above and beyond. This time around, may be our last. My partner and I ordered in person off their plant-based (Vegan) menu. This is what we only order and ordered this the first time as well. When we first got there, it was completely different than what we remembered. No greeting whatsoever, no one said hello or acknowledged we were there. No warm welcome like it used to be. After finally deciding, we said "excuse me" to the gentleman behind the counter with his back turned. No answer. We said "hola" and then he said "I'll be right with you" still with his back turned. He was more worried about tying the bag on his pickup order. He finally took our order and we paid. We realized that the receipt had extra charges. We orders two combos and noticed that one of the combo prices was more than the other. When we got our food we asked the owner why there was an additional charge to one of the combos and he said the prices have gone up and his supplier was up charging him. We told him we didn't see it on the menu, nor did he mention anything about that. He said "they just changed it today". Lol umm in my head I'm thinking (when? Just now when we walked in?) The price just suddenly changed on us monitors before we ordered lol. He made up some reason like the costs had gone up that same day--which I call bull. There is also an electronic payment charge that was not mentioned (normally vendors mention this just in case we have cash), but he said nothing. So whatever we took our food and left. The worse part is the food wasn't what it used to be. It wasn't even that good like we remembered. The quality of food has definitely gone down. If the cost of plant-based ingredients is too much for the business owner, it should just be removed from the menu. The food tasted mediocre, lacked flavor like some of the mock meat came out of a can and dumped in the pan with vegetables. The fried "shrimps" were not seasoned either. The chowmein was old and hard and the fried rice was bad. Most of the items look pre-cooked and reheated back with other ingredients made to order. But it's not that great. The menu and the item prices at the restaurant are unclear. It doesn't really clarify or specify what things costs and for what portions. My suggestion before ordering is to ask first. The prices in person are also different online. So order accordingly. Probably will not be returning. The customer service downgraded a lot, and the food is now mediocre as well.

Really good hidden vegan Mexican/Chinese spot in Compton, across the street from Compton Court House. They have vegan and non vegan options for both Mexican and Chinese dishes. Friendly customer service and really good food.

Great concept for vegans and non vegans as they have both types of menus. Food is cooked fresh to order and it's helpful to call in advance! Food wasn't overly salted either. I would order again. It's nice to have this option in the community.

First walking in your greeted with a beautiful warm welcome from Rigo, great service and attitude. I asked for one of the best dishes and I got the Lomo Saltado with chicken, which was full of flavor and texture. Love the sauce it came with also. Such a unique establishment.

Can't believe I was considering Popeye's over this gem. 10/10 experience along with the customer service. Food was fresh and the combination plate with spicy chicken wings and beef broccoli will be my go to order from now on.

It was my first time going to this place i Had there vegan Chinese, orange chicken and their vegan pepper steak with rice and noodles it was very good and the guy serving me was very helpful i think I'm going to go there today and try one of there vegan Mexican plates hopefully it's as good as the Chinese was.

This place is a cross between traditional and vegan, and also Mexican and Chinese. So everyone should be able to find something that they like on the menu. I was surprised to read someone else's comment because the customer service was stellar. Our server, Rigo, asked if it was our first time. After we said yes, he made recommendations. My niece was just along for the ride, so she didn't get anything. I ended up going with the jackfruit taco plate. Those tacos were FIRE! The texture of the jackfruit was like shredded chicken... very pleasing. And the salsa was excellent too. I also got the day's special which was sweet chili chick'n. It came over white rice. It was okay but a little too sweet for my mood that day. The texture was good though. I will definitely go back and try other items.

Sunny's always delivers. Updating with more pics. I have tried a few more items but these are some of my favorites. They have aqua frescas - I love the watermelon or passion fruit, and my homie usually gets Jamaica or horchata. In addition, they have vegan pizzas, and vegan desserts that can vary but usually a chocolate cake, carrot cake, and tiramisu. I've always been treated like a good friend when I go. The guys are clearly passionate about what they do and the food is on point every time. My friend ordered some platters for her birthday party and they were super accommodating with amazing customer service. They make efforts to boost the decor best they can if you dine in with cloth napkins and really dope crockery (the picture of the lomo saltado was in house dining - I could drink the sauce that comes with it haha). Please help me support this amazing business cuz the hood needs delicious vegan options too!

I order fried rice and added onions and shrimp... It was plentiful but I will leave the shrimp off next time. Lovely flavored and beautiful presentation.. All though I didn't care for shrimp they did give you alot

Located right across from the courthouse, you might overlook this hidden gem! But the moment you walk inside, the aroma of comfort food will take over your senses. They serve both Mexican and Chinese food all day, I went for breakfast with my friend. I ordered the omelette with vegan bacon and she got the breakfast burrito with vegan sausage. Both of our food was made quickly and came out nice and hot. First bite was amazing, they had bell peppers, onions and tomatoes inside as well. The vegan bacon they used resembled "ham" more so than "bacon" but it was still delicious. Even after being full we still kept trying to finish our food because everything was so delicious. I took a bite of my friends burrito and was wowed all over again. I'm absolutely coming back to try the Chinese food because such great service and food lives here!

Decided to try this place out. the cashier was friendly. We got the Chinese plate, I got chow mein, orange chicken and fried shrimp. my husband got chow mein, chicken teriyaki and shrimp glazed. The chow mein was dry and had no flavor. The sides were alright. nothing really stood out. I got a fountain drink and it was very watered down. I could hardly taste the syrup. The fortune cookies were also stale.

The vegan food is tasty for what it is. The Asian foods are comparable to Panda Express. The fried vegan shrimp is my favorite. The texture of some of the sautéed vegan meats, especially the vegan chicken, are rubbery but overall the taste is okay. The Asian items taste better than the Mexican items IMO. I liked the breakfast burrito but I didn't like the hibiscus tacos. There were too many stems. The restaurant is quaint but the building and parking lot are dated and sort of run down. The plant based items are overpriced for what they are.

Sunny Express Gourmet exceeded our expectations! As plant-based eaters, we loved their orange chicken and fried shrimp. The customer service was exceptional--Rico and the team made us feel like family. Easy parking, amazing food, and we'll definitely be back! Tommy

Everything here is vegan and the food is fantastic! The server was friendly and the service was quick. I only visited based on Yelp reviews and I'm glad I did. It's a small restaurant in a rough neighborhood but I will definitely be back!!

I am vegan so I was excited to try this place out. After telling the guy that took my order I had never been there, he was rude and short with me. I ended up asking a customer that had come in behind me what she recommended because the worker was so rude. I got a (3) taco plate after getting a recommendation for the other customer. Tacos; the potatoes were just covered in a tomato sauce with no flavor, the jackfruit was very good, the steak was barely cut up and not seasoned. The beans tasted like they came out of a can and the peas in the rice were still dehydrated. The food looked good at least but I was quickly fooled. The presentation was very nice however very clean but almost felt like they were trying too hard. For example they have pink cloth napkins on the tables, for what? I'd prefer you invest in an actual bean and rice recipe than have cloth napkins.

Listen, it was so damn good, I ate half my meal in the car... took a breath and went back in to order 4 more. The Jackfruit tacos are Chefs kiss!

Yum yum yum yum YUM!!! Of all the Chinese fast food places that offer legit vegan options, Sunny's Express gives the most bang for your buck. I've ordered delivery via doordash a couple of times in the past 2 years or so. Recently I was craving chow mein and suggested Sunny's to the Meateater Hubby and this place piqued his interest when he saw a Lomo Saltado on the menu. So we took the trek into Compton to check this place out in person for the first time. Sunny's is located across the street from the courthouse on the same corner as Popeye's. Though the parking lot is fairly small, there were a good amount of empty spots right in front of the small restaurant. Upon entering, we were greeted with friendliness and a helpful question: "Are you ordering plant-based or regular?" I like that there's a separate menu for each and it also includes photos of the items. I'm a visual person so I like to see what my food looks like. The 2 Entree Plate is a deal at $15. It comes with two entrees plus a side. The portion sizes are very generous! Of all the times that I've ordered this, it always ends up being more than one meal for me. On this particular visit, my order filled me up for three meals. I got a discount here so I figured to check this out. AMBIANCE: Parking: Plaza parking. Room for about 20 cars with two 15-minute parking spots in the front. Seating: Inside seating. Room or 4-5 groups ranging from 2-4 people. Feels: It's in a grit and grind area across the Compton Courthouse. The spot itself is nothing flashy. You get a friendly greeting from the cashier and the music by KISS FM. The decor is relatively simple, red painted walls with a painting and a few art pieces paying homage to Chinese culture. Moreover great for a grab-and-go but if you want to sit down and grab a bite, you are more than welcome to. FOOD: Fried Rice, Orange Chicken - Meat & Vegan (Recommend) If they served the orange and vegan chicken in front of you, you wouldn't be able to tell the difference. The aesthetics look pretty appetizing and it's well breaded, seasoned, and marinated. A very saucy bite with a lightly sticky, tangy kick, and pleasant crunch. As for the meats, the regular chicken is juicy and well cooked the vegan version is nice that's almost replicated but more lite and a little spongy. The fried rice compliments the orange chicken well. Rice was well cooked and had a good umami flavor with the soy sauce seasoned to it. Vegan Tacos (Recommend) I believe they use jackfruit to replicate the chicken texture and they did prep it pretty well. I barely noticed the difference from regular and chicken but it was delicious. The beans and rice provided a supportive comforting touch to it. CUSTOMER SERVICE: Awesome! Friendly people with relatively quick delivery. TL; DR OVERALL: 4 Stars. Fantastic. Great selections, delicious food, and all at reasonable prices. It's impressive to have such a mix menu regarding both Mexican and Asian cuisine. There were too many dishes to choose from so I hope to come back and try out more of their stuff. Stay classy, Sunny Express! TIPS: * They got a lot of choices. To be creative consider ordering in groups to mix and match, get the combo or a la carte style.

I think the food was good enough to satisfy a vegan Chinese food craving. However, the "beef" made my stomach hurt. The rest of the food did not bother me. The service took 20-30 minutes. I would HIGHLY SUGGEST ordering ahead. The ambiance is casual, like an average fast food joint.

ABSOLUTELY DELICIOUS I will go every day if I can. This place is awesome. The customer service was great. The food was fast and also cooked order so it was fresh. It wasn't that busy. The owner was absolutely great. I will eat here anytime and will recommend anyone to come this is a must try. I ordered Chinese food definitely try it and I wouldn't recommend the Mexican burrito.

Where do I start? When walking in you're immediately greeted by the cashier. I'm from the area and upset I've never came here! I came for my first time last night , the cashier who took our order recommended some things, explained how there was 2 menus!! Vegan and regular and I believe both options offered both Chinese and Mexican. The food was AMAZING FRESH DELICIOUS and I knew I should've bought more. I haven't enjoyed some "Chinese food" the way I did last night in years. The freshness of the ingredients, the customer service and the place is clean! Will definitely be back , sharing this place with my co workers

The Chinese food is straight up American Chinese and I LOVE IT, so flavorful like the drumbsticks, chow mein, loins, kung paos when I ordered takeout from Sunny's a handful of times from the plant based Chinese menu and it was SO FREAKING DELICIOUS that I ordered catering for the office. Hi Sunny's!!! I received positive feedback from everyone who your catered lunch. Thank you so much for delivering, the food was hot and we ate it UP! The food was very well received. Thank you so much for all the delicious food and passion fruit fresca. One person said they wanted to put their face in the eggplant tofu it tasted that fantastic. One person asked how I found you guys because she lives in Compton and will be ordering from you now that she knows about Sunny's. Several people mentioned they loved the crunchy veggie rolls! Only thing is I may have over estimated how much people would eat, we will enjoy the leftovers for breakfast/lunch One thing I did notice that the first day I tried the jackfruit stirfry (an off menu item that Sunny's very kindly obliged my request for upon request ) it tasted a bit salty--but after marinating overnight and when I tried it again for lunch the next day it had lessened in salt and the jackfruit flavor came through very well. It paired very well with the fried rice! I am eager to try the mexican seasoning version for next time. Oh and the aqua fresca MAN that was so refreshing and I am in love with the passion fruit juice.

Ultimate Xmas vibe, small but enough room to have a dinner with a friend or two. Have gone to this place twice now and it makes the most gourmet meal you have seen for such an affordable price. They provided excellent service and a great portion for the amount they charge. Underrated heavy, especially since it's right across the Compton center, behind Popeyes.

Food is so yummy and fresh!! Restaurant is really clean and has lots of parking. Most importantly the owner is so so sweet!! He gave me and all of my friends cookies on the house and was very welcoming. Def check this place out :)

Located in a small plaza across the street from the courthouse. There is ample parking. I ordered from the vegan options. Got the 2 entrée plate with chow mein, "steak" & broccoli, and orange "nuggets". Came around 4:30PM, so there was no wait. After taking my order, they promptly started cooking. It tasted delicious! The chow mein was flavored well and not too oily/greasy. The "steak" and broccoli was tasty. I found the texture of the orange "nuggets" a bit interesting, it was soft like mochi kind of. Still the seasoning was spot on. Small criticism is that it the 2 entrees were a tad too salty. Overall, good experience and I'll come back to try some other menu items.

Absolutely friendly staff, and delicious food. Had the chow mein & black pepper shrimp so freaking good. The owner gave us complimentary cookies and they were delicious. We had the vegan hibiscus tacos and they were sooooo flavorful. Was not expecting that at all. Will definitely be back.

Today went to lunch on 3-20-25. Around noon. There was older man shorter one taking order. Super rude. Said they were short staffed and my co worker and said we wanted to dine in.. he said they would pack food in to go plastic containers? Because Short staffed. Like 30 min later another male staff showed up . The rude man ignored him as he was knocking at door to go in to kitchen area. The rude man legit was so rude to his colleague after he purposely ignored his knocks..needless to say that staff apologized to us for delay and gave us soft drink. The rude man there around noon needs to be trained he is very rude. Why would you pack my lunch containers because he didn't wash dishes

I love sunny express ! It's a small Chinese/Mexican restaurant in the middle of Compton right next to the courthouse ! They're in a small plaza where the Popeyes is located & parking is usually fair to find . The main thing I love about here is that they have vegan options ! Omg I LOVE LOVE their orange cauliflower, it's so good ! Lately I've been coming to get their combo with regular shrimp walnut & their orange cauliflower . This is a must check for more healthier Chinese food options and for the vegans ! The guys in here are so nice ! I believe it is Mexican owned , they have hooked me up randomly with like this Mexican dish I think it's like fried crickets or something , have really only ate that in Mexico but they hooked me up once like a lil while back ! Super cool . A must to check in Compton ! Wish I had picture for y'all but I always start eating my food when I get in my car LOL .

I was very welcomed with my friend as we walked in to have lunch. I asked for recommendations on what I should try because I'm vegan and Tony was very warm and helpful. The food that he recommended I try was beyond amazing feeling and healthy. The watermelon water is my absolute favorite drink and it was delicious here. The vegan chocolate chip cookie was also amazing. I told him I would be back moving forward and that I will be a regular. Tony told me the names of the other workers who work there and it's absolutely a dream. Everything felt so warm, comfy and welcoming even on the rainy day that we had today. He also suggested that I take this picture of him and I couldn't oblige because it made me smile. I honestly can't wait until Monday because they are closed on Sundays but it's well worth the wait. I almost almost lost my mind when I saw that they are on Uber Eats as well.

I was so excited to find this place! There are some great options for Chinese and Mexican food. There are American breakfast items as well like a French toast and vegan pancakes topped with berries. This restaurant is not fully plant-based but they are very vegan friendly. Portions are great for a reasonable price. I love that they have some gluten-free options as well. The staff communicates really well. I got a combo with choice of 2 sides (so I picked vegan fried rice and chow mien) with entrees as mushroom loin and fried shrimp. The mushroom loin had button mushroom slices, zucchini, and a vegan protein in a delicious gravy. The fried vegan shrimp was very fresh with a crisp exterior and salt & pepper flavoring. Can't wait to try fire shrimp next time. We also tried their set combo special with 1 side, orange cauliflower, peking bif (vegan beef). The orange cauliflower was delicious but mind that it doesn't have that typical orange color of fast Chinese. It feels more authentic like an orange peel flavor and the sauce is brown. I was very happy with the peking bif because it was tasty and I haven't found a vegan dish with that red sauce in a very long time. It was nostalgic for me. Thanks to the staff for checking in on how the food tasted and I highly recommend vegan horchata as well. We tried the maracuya aqua fresca but actually liked the horchata better.

I was working at the courthouse and walked over to the restaurant because it was the closest place with vegan options. Sunny Express exceeded my expectations and more! What a gem! The food was quick, the chips were fresh and the Jamaica agua was delicious. I had a jackfruit burrito and it was flavorful and filling. On top of the great food, the staff was so kind. I had a chance to talk to two of the 3 employees and they were kind and attentive. A "hole in the wall" type of feel with food that would be twice as expensive in WeHo. Great location if you are working at the civic center/ Compton Courthouse. I couldn't recommend it more.

Amazing food. A fusion restaurant that shouldn't work, yet has a passion and care for both cuisines that surprised me. This was my first visit, and I'll be making sure I return every single time i'm in the area.

I've been here a couple of times when I'm craving vegan Chinese American food and this definitely hits the spot. They have more options and mock meats than Panda Express or other chains like that. I really appreciate their variety, like vegan fried shrimp, teriyaki chicken, etc. The chow mein is my favorite. Would recommend!

I had to be in Compton for an early training session. I looked around Yelp for a solid spot to grab a bite to eat breakfast and landed here. There are enough table to seat about 12 inside, but a lot of customer seem to grab and go. The counter service was excellent and the food came out in a timely manner. I went with the French toast soufflé. That bad boy was almost to pretty to eat. The taste was outstanding. The place was clean, everyone was nice. It's worth a special trip here to grab this French toast.

You must try their hibiscus asada tacos vegan vibe is off the chain good ok! Now the place is quaint yet warming. Your friends n family definitely will Njoi. The service is also swift n catering to your needs.

With limited vegan options around the area, Sunny Express really sets the bar high for vegan food and it shows. The food quality is amazing with more than 29 years of restaurant experience to back it up. The staff is lovely with greeting you and recommending items that will serve your tastebuds at ease. On this visit we ordered vegan baleada, vegan chilaquiles, and vegan beef broccoli Chinese food. Everything tasted authentic, even the baleada! I was amazed how close it felt to eating an actual one. The sour cream was handmade and really imitated Honduran cream used for this dish. The chilaquiles had a superb kick to it that was enjoyable. And the Chinese food was so delicious we wanted more! The noodles and rice were how they should taste and the sauce and texture of the beef broccoli was so mouth watering. Three time returning customers answered we'll be coming back!
