Sunny Hills Nantou Store

This is where these famous pineapple cakes originated. It is located on top of the hill along Ba Qua Ridge. One could take bus, taxi or self-drive up here. Only street parking is available, so do be aware of the very crowded traffic here during the weekends & holidays. The showroom is set up as an annex to the traditional house, and is decorated nicely. The shop offers a free cake and a cup of tea for any visitor, but there is a queue if one just comes for the freebies. The staff minding the entry could do with a bit of gentleness. Otherwise, they were all very helpful & inviting. Foodwise, it is the special pineapple cakes coming from the local field with unique red earth. The taste is a mix of slight sourness & sweetness, rather than the normal ones only with high level of sweetness. Nonetheless, the taste of the apple cakes was too sweet to me, and not suitable for people afraid of high suger intake. There is a track next to the entry that leads to a nicely designed amphatheatre, which was donated by this cake company for the locals. It is quite airy & good for a sojourn during the visit in this hot & humid September. If one happens too pass through this region, it is highly recommended to pop in & enjoy a nice break here.

I don't like pineapple cakes, never did, never will, with the exception of the pineapple cake served here. Usually they are much too sweet with mostly winter melon meat, and a thick, dry, tasteless skin. The cakes here are wonderfully light with real pineapple meat and a fluffy, delicious skin. Also, you can get in line, and receive one whole cake AND a cup of fragrant oolong tea for free, served in tranquil and elegant surroundings!

A nicely preserved traditional Chinese residence. Sunny Hill here offers the same range of products as the other outlets. The pineapple tarts are still its champion although they have introduced a variety of other items now. Splendid customer service as always.

Sunny Hills tried to preserve their traditional family house - Sanheyuan and developed modern, cozy interior. Every customer needs to wait to be seated and will be served with a cup of oolong tea with a piece of pineapple cake or seasonal pastries. After tasting, you can purchase what you want and they won’t let you feel bad if you don’t buy anything. The pineapple cakes from Sunny Hills are my favorite souvenir and in my must-buy list every year. The cakes are filled with creamy stuffing made with pineapple not winter melon which are the most authentic but not my type. I also love their crust which is kind of tough but become soft in your mouth. Our only complaint is the price, it was close to 2 times of price compared to other brand. As a pineapple cake, it’s too much but looks good as a souvenir.

The free apple cake and black tea are so nicer. The place is so chill and pretty. We enjoy a lot. If u have time, u must come here to see how beatiful here.

Came to Nantou, you definitely have to visit this place, where the famous Sunnyhills pineapple pastry originated. The owner of Sunnyhills started this business to help the local pineapple farmers. Today, it has become a world famous pineapple pastry shop. All visitors are offered a piece of their famous pineapple pastry and a cup of oolong tea to enjoy for free in their beautifully decorated reception hall.

Clean, professional and free samples! Little bit out of the way but certainly worth a visit, plenty of pineapple farms/fields around to wander through too. Sample tasted great. Made and kept warm on site and served with some tea to wash it down with. The building itself is spacious and open with long tables to suit parties of any size.

My favourite Taiwanese pineapple tart! About S$2.30 each. Try their tea together though, perfect temperature and good tea makes the pineapple tart exceptionally delicious! Just can't seem to reproduce the same nice tea back at home! Hmmmppp...
