This food is so good is yummy and I enjoy it so much with my family. I will recommend to go there it is good and it cheap and it is a good to choose the food on the menu. I am telling you when I go to other states the food over there is not good. This place is very good and I will like to go back there someday and I will recommend if people that like to eat Chinese food. Then try this place! I hope you enjoy.

Google
Sunny Shine looks like a hole in the wall but it's a real gem if your are looking for Cantonese Chinese food. Great flavors and low price with great portions. Hard to beat.

Drew Wang

Google
The food is very relatively cheap, fast service, and the portions are huge. Really good food.

Si Tang

Google
The bbq food is a joke, so old. Order 5 varieties, all 5 were questionable. End up discarding all of them. First time trying, and last time I will be there.

Michael Wang

Google
This place changed hands recently, the menu slightly changed (they now have Sichuan style spicy plates). But the quality of food is still great, the price is fair and the portions are huge. The decor and atmosphere is non-existent, the service is barely passable - your typical Chinese restaurant feel. But due to the quality of the food, I still would recommend this place. Give it a shot!

Alexander Gabriel

Google
Food is decent. Not super good, but also not bad. Service on the other hand can be improved. Wife's requests got mostly ignored. Waiter only really listened to what I had to say / order. Not very polite.

bin zhen

Google
Roast duck was tough and mostly bone.

April Lake

Google
The food is wonderful! Best Peking Duck & roasted pork ever. I would have posted 5 on the food hands down.. however Asians get preferential treatment & I am spending the same money.

Yelp
Food is finger licking delicious. I get the half roasted duck and pork belly. Service is mediocre. I always get laughed at by the ladys behind the counter. They crack jokes in their language. Because waiting customers laugh as well. Ambiance is not appealing,

Yelp
This place deserves way more foot traffic. The lunch specials have amazing value and 2-3 entrees can feed a family. Not too mention it is very delicious.

Yelp
This review is for the roasted duck. I've been hunting for slighty cheaper price duck cause while Sam Woo is reallt good but their price has gone up tremendously. I came accross this Bbq place while I was in the plaza and decided to try it. I was so surprised! It's on the small side restaurant but seems cozy. Their duck quality was 8/10 and cheaper price! I will be back to try some other dishes.

Yelp
The food was ok. I think it could be better. Beef noodle soup. Wasn't my favorite dish. I felt like the beef wasn't cool right to be tender. It was too hard to chew on it. The service was great tho. The waitress was very attentive but overall I give this place just an ok

Yelp
This place deserves more stars than it receives. The 3 meat dish for $29 hits the spot. The roast pork and roasted duck is excellent; the duck is much better than DongPo in Arcadia. I personally didn't care for the intestine but my mom said it was also well seasoned. The service is also fast. There is even free WiFi. I got the bones for my dog, and the hostess even gave me a duck head for him as well! Would def visit in the future, they also have party tray options.

Yelp
If you're lazy to cook and craving some Chinese food, this is a pretty good place to go to. They have lunch specials that give really big portions for cheap but the normal menu pricing isn't too shabby either. The workers here are Cantonese speakers but they know enough English to help you order and understand what you want. I came and got some family style foods that comes with a bin of white rice which they will refill if you need more. Food not only comes with complimentary white rice but your choice of hot tea or my favorite, iced sweetened chrysanthemum tea! Pretty quiet with no music but doesn't mean you can't be loud and talk. Definitely should give it a try if you want authentic Chinese food and even if you're on a budget. See my pics if you want to know what I feasted on!

Yelp
Yummy food! Reasonable price! Friendly staffs. The place is also clean. Definitely will come back!

Yelp
I would give this restaurant zero stars. Do not come here unless you want to get angry. I ordered a Fish Flavored Eggplant but they served me a Pork Eggplant instead. When I pointed out the mistake to the waiter, I expected them to bring me the correct dish. However, I was disappointed to find that the kitchen simply altered the taste of the same dish and served it back to me. The taste and presentation were still wrong. This not only failed to correct the error but also felt like an unethical attempt to deceive a customer. Never never back to this restaurant again.

Yelp
This is a very irresponsible restaurant. I ordered a roasted pig two weeks ago to worship my father. Because Qingming Festival is coming, but when I went to pick up the roasted pig, they actually forgot to roast it. The lady at the counter was very rude and even asked me if I could change the date to worship my father. This is very hateful. As a businessman, this should not be forgotten. This is very important for every consumer. I don't even want to add the star for a review, but it won't let me post it if I don't add one ,so I have to add one star which is is not what I want. Very bad restaurant.

Yelp
I ordered a soup online and was going to pay at the store since there was no credit card checkout option. When I've arrived, I asked to pick up my order and gave them my name and phone number. The lady rudely said "Wrong location we don't have". I asked to double check since the location said it was this store and she just simply said "No we don't have". The tone could have been way much nicer and respectful, as I have never seen anyone treat their customers like this. If the website isn't working, please remove it as this was an inconvience for me. This was one of the rudest experience i've experienced
google avatar

Yelp
I would give them zero star if I could! Be careful if you pay with card! They will charge 22% tips without asking customer permission? We only ordered four dishes and each of them is average around 16 dollars only. I can not understand how come I ended up paying 90 something! When I asked how much they charge me for tips, the lady just looked at me without an answer. So I asked for the receipt with details breakdown, she is not willing to show me the receipt. I told her it is illegal to charge me tips without my permission, and I can call police! Then she showed me the receipts with attitude. I found the total before tax is only 69, plus 10% tax it should come out of 75. I found she charged me $15 for tips! When I questioned her, she trying to explain me she only charged 15%? Excuse me, 15% of 100 is 15, how you can get 15 tips with 75? It is totally unacceptable and NOT recommend this place for sure! It is illegal and unethical to cheat on customers bill! I used to come here a lot, it is my first time to come here since they changed the management. The previous owner offered better service and tasted much better! Today the roasted duck and pork belly is totally code! In the past they were always swerved as hot dish. The kong bao shrimp tasted weird, it is not normal Kong Bo flavor at all. And the peanuts is half cooked. The salty pepper pork chop and house special clam are ok.

Yelp
First time trying Sunny Shine BBQ lunch special and it was pretty good! Their lunch special ends around 4pm so there's time after running errands on a Saturday to grab lunch. I've been to this place a few times to grab their chicken, BBQ pork, or roast duck. I remember their chickens were super plump and full of flavor. Meaning they were bigger than your Sam Woos; however time has changed. It's a good place to go if you're looking for BBQ roast pork or chicken. This restaurant is located in El Monte on Peck Road, right across from Ocean Bo (the place that sells dim sum) and Mana Tea House. The parking there can get really busy and the parking spots are really narrow. Especially during the lunch rush, the parking lot can get really packed. The service there is good, since I ordered to go I can't say about their wait service. Food comes out piping hot and smells so delicious. On this visit, I ordered Beef Chow Fun (dry style), Braised Tofu, Orange Peel Chicken and the Fish Filet in Black Bean Sauce. Also, as a bonus for their lunch special includes a box of complementary white rice. Most dishes on the menu are $9.99 or under. Overall it was a pleasant visit and the food was good. Especially if you're super hungry, it hits the spot just right. My only sad downside is that the boxes are not packed full like other restaurants. There was not a lot of fish filet in the Fish Filet Black Bean Sauce or a lot of chicken in the Orange Peel Chicken Dish. I guess times are tough and our dollars don't go as far anymore. The food is great, I just hoped for more food. The verdict, definitely coming back to try more dishes!

Yelp
Roast duck is very tasty delicious reasonably priced, the soy sauce stirred fried noodles are good too. I recommend it. However, the lady cashier is pushy, rude, and impatient. she needs to learn to treat customers with respect and have patience with customers That's the one thing I don't like is the cashier. Food's delicious...4 1/2 .but cashier service is Rude.
google avatar

Elaine D.

Yelp
I stopped by on a weeknight around 7pm, there was a table with 4 men finishing up their meal. I had put in my order for wonton noodle soup, which should have taken 10 minutes like other places. While I was waiting, the cashier brought out about 4 dishes and put it on the table where the men left. I then realized they were cooking for themselves first to eat and made my order after their food. I leaned against what small ledge she had in front of the cash register asking if my soup was ready, she said rudely, don't squish my plant. I told her I wasn't and the flowers were fake! She then said my plant, I said your plant is higher up so how can I squish it. She shut up. Just plain rude cashier never taught any manners. That is why there is hardly any business. I had ordered food from Ocean Bo before I got there and it was already waiting for me. Took only 10 minutes for 4 items too.

Yelp
Good: BBQ Pork (Cha Siu), Roasted Pork belly (Siu Yok), Roasted Duck (Siu Ngap) Bad: If you don't understand some of the Chinese mannerisms, you're gonna learn toda I hated this place for a while but... they got above average food and it'll do in a pinch. It's the best BBQ Pork, in El Monte. But that's not the same as saying it's the best taco in El Monte. It's a local joint where you can get some of the Chinese delicacies. Some of these items are so hard to make at home that you just have to go out to buy them. We always get these 3 things Cha Siu, Siu Yok, and Siu Ngap. They're yummy. If you want to impress a Chinese lady, bring a box of each to the next potluck. Some of the mannerisms that I had to get used to: 1. When you buy the BBQ pork it's in lbs. So if you ask for 1 lb, I'll get like 1.2-1.5 lbs. Master! (see fu!)! I axed you for 1 lbs, why you give me so much. I wasn't mentally prepared to eat or pay this much. Solution: if your goal is 1 lbs, ask for 1/2 lb. It's always a gamble, you gotta kinda eyeball it-- Good luck! be mentally prepared for leftovers or food coma. 2. See Fu is the name of the chef which directly translates to master. All of the chefs are See Fu-- dunno why I'm all tripped up over this. But... if he can keep cooking this well, I'll keep calling him See Fu. 3. Language barrier- shoot, man... I just texted my wife "what do you call Roasted Pork Belly and Roasted Duck in canto" just to help me write this review. So... know what you want to order in Canto. Type of meat: BBQ Pork (Cha Siu), Roasted Pork belly (Siu Yok), Roasted Duck (Siu Ngap) know your numbers: 1- 4 google doesn't have a good translator, use bing: https://www.bing.com/translator?from=en&to=yue&setlang=en know how to ask them to cut the meat for you so the See Fu doesn't have to grab his cleaver and show you the motion. Use bing translator for English to Cantonese

Yelp
I walked by to pick up food from corner beef noodle and it reminded me about this place. I haven't been here for 3-4 years bit I remember the food being decent. I walked in to just ask for a menu. They were so nice and welcoming when I walked I that I decided to make my way back soon for lunch! Food: Milder flavors. Less oil than most places. The fried fish was about $8. Absolute steal to get that for $8. Service: Very friendly staff. I'm not use to the meat guy being so courteous. Usually they're a bit rough and rugged when they ask you what you want. Price: Under $10 lunch deals. Some items in the $6 range!! Food: 4 Service: 5 Price: 5

Yelp
TL;DR - Owner changed, customer service is terrible, the restaurant and food isn't clean and my family most likely got food poisoning from here. I made an account just so I could put in my review and I would give this a zero star if I could. I hadn't came here in years since I moved but the place was on the way back home so I decided to stop by. I ordered to go over the phone beforehand and the lady on the phone was just plain rude the whole time and keeps saying they don't have certain things but whatever I just needed to pick up the food. When I arrived the first thing i noticed was how run down the place had become. Came to realize that the owner and all the previous staff had changed. Went in to get the food and again the front lady just had to make it so obvious about how much she hated her job and projecting it on the customer. Mind you I was the only one there because the place was just empty. I asked for my food and she said it wasn't ready. Lady.. I called almost an hour ago and your telling me my food isnt ready when i'm the only one here? I asked again after waiting a bit but she was constantly giving me looks and was rude to me as if I owed her something. Just from this itself was enough for me to never step foot back in here again. Ok so I ordered a few items so the whole family can have this for lunch and dinner but man was the food just terrible. The vegetables had so much sand and dirt in there so no one even bothered eating it because clearly they weren't even washed. The other dishes in general were either too salty or very bland, some even tasted weird like it just didn't taste how it's supposed taste. There was just no in between. My kids had one bite of the food and ended up spitting it out saying they didnt like the food. My parents ate more rice than the dishes ordered. My partner and I had some and ended up discarding the rest of the foods. As wasteful as it sounds, that was just how terrible the food tasted. By midnight everyone seemed to all have upset stomachs and everyone was fighting for the restrooms. I'm not positive if it was because of the food we got from here or not but the kids were fine because they didn't have any of the food but all the adults were just taking turns using the restroom. I even ended up taking my father to the hospital just to make sure he was ok because his health is not good. Turns out we got food poisoning but thankfully everyone was fine after a day or so. I should've done my due diligence and checked the reviews before coming back here since all these one star reviews started pouring in ever since the owner had changed. Guess its my turn to warn you guys about how terrible the food is at this place.

Karen H.

Yelp
Lunch specials is great! Prices are reasonable and they have chinese BBQ too. Lunch specials are available everyday even weekends too.

Danny W.

Yelp
The only reason I pick up lunch from this restaurant is because it is on the way to my office.  There are so many other Chinese restaurants that are much better.  One of the better restaurants is in the same plaza, but they don't have roasted duck and BBQ pork. Today, I went there to buy lunch. I have been there a few times before.  I thought I paid them with a $20 bill. I only asked them, "Did I pay you with a $20 bill?" Her verbal reaction and facial expression accused me of trying to scam her. She made me feel like a criminal and trying to scam a few dollars.

Yelp
So a friend told us that this place has Chinese bbq, you know, roast duck, roast pork, and etc.... Came by today to pick up a roast duck for dinner that night, and since I haven't had lunch yet, also ordered up a Chinese sausage fried rice dish. To make a long story short, the sausage fried rice was pretty decent, not overly greasy, nor salty. So good marks for this dish. Now for the not so good, the roast duck was dry as hell, and we served it in our bowl of soup noodles at dinner time. Soaking in our soup broth, it was still pretty dry. This is an indication to me, that the duck was way over cooked, or was sitting in the display case, way to long. Restaurant itself was OK, about a dozen or so tables, staff was friendly and helpful. Was going to give 2 stars for the dried roast duck, but the Chinese fried rice brings it back up to 3, so 3 stars from me. Would try this place again, just in case I caught them on a bad day, but if it's dried again, time to go elsewhere.

Yelp
This is the place to go... it is all ver tasty so get all that looks tasty.. that's all you need to know

Yelp
On the day of lunar new year, my family decided they wanted bbq. Morning of, I went straight here as I thought it would be less crowded than other more well-known places such as Sam Woo BBQ. When I got there, I waited in line for about 15 minutes. I was happy to wait in line because they definitely follow safety guidelines during the pandemic. All of them wore masks and they had a line marked for 6 feet distance and only allowed two customers at a time could go inside. The BBQ ended up being great! They have the meat up front where you can choose it and they cut it up for you. They charge by the whole meat or by the pound. All was hot and ready, and you pay cash. I order a half duck, half soy chicken, 1/2 pound of sausage, and a 1/2 pound of roasted pork. All of were delicious, especially the duck. Prices were also cheaper than Sam woo. This is my new to-go place. Parking is easy as it is in a plaza that provides alot of parking. Bring cash as it is cash only. When I went on that day, the cashier spoke very good English.
google avatar

Kevin W.

Yelp
Very hole in the wall Chinese BBQ joint. Located in the same plaza as Ocean Bo. Located in the back left corner of the plaza. Parking here is a terrible. For some reason, this plaza is always packed! Cash only. They speak limited English. I did not eat in, I ordered to go, the hanging BBQ stuff. Pork Belly - $13.99 per pound - Siu Yuk!!! Pork was tender. Skin was crispy. The pound price is a little on the expensive side.

Yelp
Wow this place is deff a hidden gem so delicious ! We had been wanting really good Chinese food & this deff satisfied the craving. All of the food was really good beef chow fun was one of our favorites. Severs don't know much English but other than that everything was GREAT.

Yelp
The food was awesome, I liked the fried fish or chicken and the soft fish with veggies and black beans and beef with onions! Very tasty and yummy

Yelp
it's a pretty old run down place probably needs renovation but not even the best renovation in the world can help your soul when you eat here. everyone got food poisoning all 16 of us for the past 3 days you would sit on the toilet and have to pray that you don't shat out your intestines. one of us even had to go to the ER yesterday oh man if you can stay away i wouldn't come here ever again

M C.

Yelp
We ordered food for a company luncheon as it was CNY and didn't taste bad, however my whole company ended up sick after catching something. We ended up very sick the entire weekend. Definitely will not be returning. Service is okay, and typical of a busy Chinese restaurant during the festival.
google avatar

M. H.

Yelp
We were so worried when we heard our favorite Cantonese joint had a new owner, so has to rush over today. Fortunately the staff remained the same, the portions are still enormous, and the food tasted as good as ever! The menu changed dramatically though, so our favorite dish is no longer available, but there are a few new ones we hope to try soon.
google avatar

Elizabeth M.

Yelp
Rude as hell. Call over the phone said we are busy then i walk in a ghost town. Caution is it worth it?
google avatar

Samantha V.

Yelp
The food was good, but the customer service was not. It was only Me and my husband and the waitress messed up our order twice, and she didn't check up on us to see if we'd like more water, or if we were done and If we needed boxes. We paid and everything, and the waitress required a tip, for me she didn't deserve one cause her service was poor, and we tried to leave with no tip she was asking "why no tip" I couldn't even understand what she was saying as well so we ended up giving her 7 dollars of tip because we didn't want to go back and forth with this woman. I would go to Sam woo for better service. Will not be eating here again. New owners are not great.
google avatar

Angela H.

Yelp
Roast pork was tasty. It had flavor and skin was crunchy. The chow fun lacked flavor. The chow mein was ok but too greasy. Overall its ok bc it's in my neighborhood but I rather drive a bit to get better stuff
google avatar

mark y.

Yelp
Having ordered from here a few times, I'd say that they are consistently good, friendly, and a good value especially with the lunch specials.
google avatar

Bobby V.

Yelp
Not sure how good it tastes yet but checking it out. Take out orders seem busy. I wanted to post the current menu for y'all.
google avatar

Jacob D.

Yelp
Got some BBQ pork for CNY cause we are running around busy for CNY - and knowing our usual spots will be a long wait.. decided to give this place a try.. maybe become our new spot.... I have got to say this is the worst BBQ pork I have ever had.. I believe it was overnight.. I've heard so many good things about this place pre-pandemic but never had a chance to try.. either the recommendations were bad, or this place went down hill -- like literally to the bottom. We ended up not serving this for CNY. Will definitely not be coming back here when others are a lot cheaper and good.
google avatar

David C.

Yelp
Sunny shine is definitely a gem that is hidden in El Monte. I've been to many Chinese restaurants around the SGV and by far this place is on top of my list. The price is cheap The portion of food is big The food taste very delicious What more can you ask for? If you're looking for good food, come check this place out. But if you're looking for some place that looks fancy, this might not be the place for you to take your significant other.
google avatar

Hichiro T.

Yelp
THERE'S SOME REAL GOOD FOOD COMING OUT OF THIS PLACE. Rule #1 Never follow the advice of any reviewer that will base for quality in customer service or their experience with a staff member. I've read some reviews here complaining about the staff and I looked at the source and immediately thought that there was a definite language barrier that happened here and unfortunately this place was unfairly rated. That said. I'm here to give my recommendations and just the few items I've tried. Must have. Char Sui pork, Duck, chicken string beans and the braised pork belly. I can't wait to return to try more dishes, in certain they are just as fantastic. Flavors are authentic to the region and are not doctored for the American palette. Service was great. The 3 ladies in the front were very nice and after I was done with my meal, they packed the left over up for me and came back with samples of other items. Great experience and I highly recommend.
google avatar

Mama Bear S.

Yelp
Been here before in the past, but called to ask if they could bring the food outside (curbside) for me to pickup and pay. The lady was friendly and offered to bring the food outside. Maybe I was speaking Canton-English (my bad Cantonese), but they do understand English. Just a reminder, this was Monday, 10:08 am I called. Ordered 5 dishes. She said would take 20 mins. I got there around 35 mins and there where no customers, but was able to get their service fast: parked up front, got the food, and paid. Let her keep the change, no problem! Great deal! Includes rice and soup. Food were filled in the take out boxes. This is a lunch special? More like for dinner. Oh my! Nothing spectacular, it is still pretty good, and to fill our hungry tummies. Tues closed. Tip: you could request no spicy for dishes that are spicy. Saves them time too. Ummm...I wouldn't order the BBQ items as you need an army of customers to buy them. Unless you're planning to buy a whole roasted pig! Yes I would definitely recommend!
google avatar

Ricky S.

Yelp
I am happy to see this mom and pop shop survive the pandemic. I've passed by many times and business was slow. However, I recently stopped by this place because it was a convenience. It was a pleasant surprise when many of their items were on the affordable side. I was worried that the quality would be compromised, but was surprised that it wasn't lacking. Probably not the most amazing dishes there, but was really good for the price. I've been going back since when I need something cheap and good. The only problem is that their menu is not always updated, they've told me on multiple occasions that they've stopped service a particular dish. Also, when they are super busy, they will not pick up the phone for advanced orders.

Yelp
Im a regular here, but recently changed ownership. Food is not as good. Menu and price also has been changed.

Yelp
Occasion To Visit: Celebrated Christmas by having lunch. Credit Cards: Not a big restaurant.... sooo cash is KING! Make sure you have cash in hand. Location/Parking: Located in the same plaza where Ocean Bo is. Plenty of parking in the shared parking lot. You can also park along Peck Rd. (pay attention to parking restrictions) if you can't find any parking in the lot also. Ambiance/Decor: Kinda resembles a bit like Sam Woo. When you enter the restaurant, you'll probably see some peking ducks, chickens, and a roasted pork. Decor is like any other chinese restaurant. Service: Service can be a bit slow. On Christmas day, they were understaffed. The staffers were basically like chickens running around with their head cut off. Food: We ordered the usuals that we get at Mr. Chopsticks. The lamb stew (I think is the best lamb stew I've ever had. The soup base was a little watery than I'm use to, but it tasted great with my steamed rice) and spinach (definitely fresh and wasn't salty.) On this day, we also ordered half a pecking duck (Chinese Turkey). It was quite yum and I had a field day on the sweet and sour sauce. Food For Thought: High quality food for similar prices at other BBQ restaurants. Also, I think my dad found a new place to dine at. We might be here often until my dad gets tired of it. :P

Yelp
The duck here is too salty, but otherwise tasted ok. The rest of the dishes are ok but not particularly good. Prices are ok. If you would like to have Chinese food but don't want to drive to San Gabriel (e.g., to save gas) then this may be your place.

Yelp
My co worker introduced me to this place and I gotta say I'm impressed .. actually my husband is impressed and he is hard to please. We got a chow fun and you can really tell there is a lot of "wok hei " in their food. That's something Hong Kong cuisine is known for and what Hong Kongers look for. Not only is their food delicious but their prices are still very very reasonable unlike other places around the area. The servers remind me of Hong Kong but definitely a lot nicer and friendlier. Can't wait to take our parents here!

Yelp
ZERO stars if it was possible and in all my years of Yelping, I've never said this before! Food was just mediocre. Service was absolutely horrible. The manger/owner (older man with glasses) serviced our table and had a bad attitude. My dad asked for 5 glasses of water and he only got 2. When he asked the manager for the other 3, he had this unpleasant frown on his face as he slammed the remaining glasses of water on the table. When it came to paying, my aunt had paid with tip. This jerk came back to our table and THREW the money on the table, saying it wasn't enough -- meaning the tip wasn't good enough. Amazingly enough, my aunt paid more in tip and we were allowed to leave. That would have not flown well with me if I was paying attention. Sure, you got maybe another $10 in cash but such an asshat attitude caused revenue loss in zero repeat visits and this negative review for all of the public to read. Other reviewers experienced this consistent shitty behavior. In this climate of ample restaurant competition, your restaurant will certainly close soon because the lack of respect towards patrons. Karma, sir, karma. Do NOT come here unless you want bad service and an entitled attitude. Even if the food is mind blowing awesome, there is no way I would support such a nasty excuse of a human being. NEVER AGAIN.

Yelp
I use to come to this place quite often before new owners took over. Now I go much less because the new owners are just not very friendly, in fact, the woman at the counter is quite rude. Besides the service needing improvement, the food taste is very mediocre. My most recent order, I ordered 4 dishes to go and all 4 were extremely salty. This was very disappointing from a place I use to frequent often.
