The Best Teriyaki in Seattle - Eater Seattle

"With so many changes over the years in the Magnolia, Queen Anne, and Ballard neighborhoods, it’s a minor miracle that unassuming Sunny Teriyaki, perched above Interbay, has stood the test of time. This no-nonsense neighborhood eatery delivers consistently quality meat in its dishes. The spicy teriyaki gives a nice kick to the usual affair, making this a community favorite." - Leonardo David Raymundo, Harry Cheadle

Google
Generous portion of chicken teriyaki with a nice fresh salad and good dressing, free cups of hot tea, and enough seating for a dozen people. Not bad for a tiny place in a gas station!

Google
This is a nice spot for something to munch quickly, i have gotten the general tsao from here and is good. This time around i got the chicken teriyaki and wasn't too impressed with the chicken and the sauce. I definitely have had better i thought this would be their best dish since its part of their name. The lady is very nice and friendly, the chicken was also a little cold. It was ready too quickly so makes me think its not fresh. This combo came with the salad ofcourse and white rice. Price is reasonable but not too crazy for it myself

Google
The teriyaki chicken is solid. Simple, delicious, and hits the spot. The yakisoba was a bit meh. More like chow mein than yakisoba. And the ingredients tasted a bit like plastic wrap. Perhaps because that was how they were stored.

Google
The lady who runs this cozy little spot is so nice. If I lived nearby I would be here for kimbap and a side salad for lunch every day. The teriyaki was fine but I would have asked for the sauce on the side next time if this was my local joint just because there was so much of it. Five stars for the kimbap!

Google
Sunny Teriyaki (specifically the one next to Fishermen's Terminal) is the best teriyaki I've ever had - in this city, in this country, in my life! It's my absolute favorite because of the way they cook the chicken, the texture of the chicken, the browning/grilling, and the sauce. They have super great service. I always call ahead and pick up in store. Can't recommend enough. Cannot understand why they don't have 5 full stars, whoever rated less than a 5 does not have good taste.

Google
Update: This has been my regular spot for a couple months now! I crave it so often. Best teriyaki spot in Seattle. Typing as I eat but this chicken teriyaki is soooo good. Fast service as well as great customer service. Needed a quick bite before work and this was perfect. I will definitely be coming back.

Google
usually i don’t get the wonton soup in my opinion i would sway away from it at this restaurant. I was sick feeling in need for soup but the soup had no flavor and only three wontons in my soup and the rest mixed veggies, i like everything else there like the chicken katsu the egg rolls the fried rice etc, but this was quite frustrating because the plastic cup it was in had burned me and leaked inside my bag and all over me and the food i had order wasn’t great so i threw it way unfortunately and It will be a while till I come back in, the staff super friendly so that was awesome.

Google
Sunny Teriyaki has been a favorite place since we discovered it many years ago. Located in a gas station plaza, parking is limited and gets especially busy during lunch time. Portions are excellent, Prior to kids my husband and I could order two entries and we would easily have enough leftovers for another meal, now with two entries we can feed a family of four. Our go to dishes photographed below are Tofu Yakisoba and add Goza, and Chicken Teriyaki. The veggies are fresh, the noodles are cooked perfectly. Their overall Seattle City cleanliness rating is "Good"

Yelp
Take-out Review Only. Great Teriyaki option. Their chicken teriyaki was okay. Generous portion and you'll get what you wish for if you're craving sweet and salty. It wasn't the best I've had, but it did the trick. Things that would've made it taste better: (a) more tender chicken (some felt dry) and (b) less sweetness in the sauce. Some people would like this, just wasn't for me. The spicy was decent and I liked it more. Their yakisoba was also okay. Good, but the shrimp felt more rubbery vs. tender and soft. Their salad also decent but again, the sauce is very sweet and more like a sugary glaze rather than a light refreshing ginger based sauce. Owner is very nice and service is great. All in all, it's a good teriyaki spot. It's not knock your socks off, but it's teriyaki and when you crave it you'll be satisfied here.

Yelp
The food has always been quite delicious. Portions are well sized so you don't go hungry. Service is friendly with short wait times even during a rush. The ambience is almost homey in a welcoming way.

Carlos R.

Yelp
Today I came here to have lunch and when I receive my order to go, I open it once I arrive to my destination to find out that my was way overcooked really dry and burnt, wasted my money

Yelp
Great food, quick service and amazing owners!!! Updating the menu as it was outdated!

Judith S.

Yelp
The General Tso chicken is very good, and it has a nice kick. The peas and carrots are a nice touch. I like how they provide a small side of salad. Service was very speedy around 1:30pm on a weekday.

Leonid M.

Yelp
My personal experience 2/5, I tried 20+ teriyaki place in wa Portion small and meat not too fresh the owner is friendly.
google avatar

Frannie Y.

Yelp
Such a great teriyaki spot! They give such big portions of meat, so it's definitely enough for two meals and two scoops of rice too! The sauce is delicious and a touch on the sweet side but that's perfect for a good teriyaki sauce. I love the dressing they give with the side salad, and the gyoza is delicious. They're super stuffed and juicy. The owner is so sweet too, so this is probably gonna be my new go to teriyaki spot!

Yelp
Fave teriyaki in Seattle! Easy to order and pickup. They have *the* salad dressing (iykyk). Spicy chicken hits! Regular chicken is so good. Fried rice is excellent. No complaints

Yelp
Can never go wrong. Was on my way home from work and was looking for a quick bite to grab some food. I decided to try their spicy chicken. The sauce is so good; just the right amount of spiciness and sweetness. The lady at the front was kind as always. She remembered my name, which is always a nice touch. The ingredients tasted fresh, price is amazing for how much you get. Looking forward already to my next visit

Ava M.

Yelp
Definitely the best teriyaki I've had in the area. It's quick and consistent. I just wish they were open on the weekends!!
google avatar

Nate C.

Yelp
Consistently delicious and quick. This is my go to spot after 3 years in the area trying other teriyaki joints.
google avatar

Anna M.

Yelp
Affordable and generous portions! We were in the area from out of town and heard that Seattle teriyaki was a must. This quaint spot did not disappoint! We ordered the chicken teriyaki which was perfect for 2 people. The staff are extremely friendly too and very welcoming of new customers :)
google avatar

Danylo K.

Yelp
One of the best in Seattle. The spicy teriyaki is the best. Also the lunch special is priced great.
google avatar

Tracy M.

Yelp
Great teriyaki, same w/ yakisoba. Fast, reasonable price, easy to park in front & run in to grab your order.
google avatar

Jeff J.

Yelp
The chicken was gross. I had to send it back which she reluctantly did. The replacement wasn't any better. I don't know how this place is getting 5-star reviews
google avatar

STEVE L.

Yelp
One of my favorite teriyaki places in Seattle. Really good food with large portions and the owners are very nice.

Yelp
I live in Magnolia and was out and about in the neighborhood running errands Friday and decided to come here to grab a quick dinner. Pretty quiet when I walked in, but seems like there's a lot of to go orders that come in here. I ordered: - chicken teriyaki + gyoza plate Comes with an iceberg lettuce salad. I really liked the teriyaki here! Probably the best I've had in Seattle. Decently priced as well. A good portion.
google avatar

Jer B.

Yelp
Good enough. First time getting Teriyaki in this part of town. Portion sizes were not that generous. Ordered a chicken Katsu. It was decent.
google avatar

Ang R.

Yelp
Food was yummy, definitely better than the Ballard Sunnys. Fair portions and the people were very nice. I started eating before I took the picture. Lol.

Albert R.

Yelp
Whoa! A high cost increase even considering COVID and inflation. But they are not the only small business to do so. I have visited this wonderful place for many years and they have implemented several price increases over time (I get the same thing every time). The food is delicious and the portions are amazing but I won't be able to partake as much as I once did. -1 star.

Yelp
What can I say? It's a very solid teriyaki joint that is very close to work. I don't like their tofu teriyaki dish much, but it was definitely filling. Just had a bit too much going on... and the serving was too big for my liking. When I go now and don't feel like meat, I tend to get a serving of brown rice and a salad. Filling and cheap? Perfect! When I'm craving some chicken, I get their super tasty teriyaki chicken. The chicken comes with a salad (lettuce and some tasty creamy white sauce) and plenty of rice. It's kind of a heavy meal, but it generally ends up being two meals for about $7. Perfect. Oh and the staff? I only ever talk with the cashier lady and we still haven't established any form of small talk or ongoing conversation, but she's nice and seems to remember me now that I've come in more than a couple of times. I wouldn't go out of my way to come here, but it can't really get any better than this for a standard tasty and cheap teriyaki joint... so, 5 stars it is!

Yelp
Decided to visit after a checking out discovery park. Don't be set aback by the gas station location, the chicken was awesome and the serving size was plenty. My boyfriend and I shared it for lunch and were left very satisfied. Would recommend and return again.
google avatar

Ahran J.

Yelp
This sunny teriyaki is better than the one in ballard for sure. I got their chicken katsu and my order came out in seven minutes when they said it will take ten! The lady is so nice too.
google avatar

Ellen L.

Yelp
Divey take out kind of a place but food was good and totally hit the spot. Ordered inside and when it was ready they brought it out to our car due to covid.
google avatar

Andrew H.

Yelp
Great spicy chicken, my favorite local spot for teriyaki. The sauce is unique for seattle teriyaki as it has gochujang in it. The rice is tender and sticky and good for chopsticks. Gyoza hits the spot, too. Quick service; same pleasant lady behind the counter every time.

Nina G.

Yelp
Stopped in here for a quick lunch while visiting all the tourist stops in Seattle. The teriyaki chicken #1 was so tasty and the side salad has an awesome ginger sesame dressing. Very quick service & kind staff.

Megs L.

Yelp
Perfect little hole-in-the-wall restaurant! I did takeout, just went in and ordered and they had me sit in my car and brought out the order when it was done. Everything tasted and looked amazing, so I will definitely be frequenting Sunny Teriyaki quite often. Would highly recommend their chicken teriyaki and chicken fried rice!!

Yelp
First and the last time eating at Sunny Teriyaki. I ordered beef teriyaki, and I was shocked to see the meat black and cardboard-like texture. I asked the lady that my beef was overcooked and burnt. She told me this is their charcoal style and its normal. I explained to her that my meat was unusually darker and dried compare to other customers meat. She had no answer and all she could say was that this is our normal style and it's not burnt. You guys look at the picture and tell me if I'm wrong. Never going back to this place.

Yelp
This is our best neighborhood teriyaki shop in Magnolia. Always fast and friendly service! Only wish they were open on Sundays.

Cerella C.

Yelp
Great local Teriyaki spot. We have ordered a couple of times and the food is always so tasty. We highly recommend the gyoza, general Taos chicken, chicken teriyaki and chicken fried rice.
google avatar

Matt S.

Yelp
Solid yaki. Beef could be more tender but the chicken was juicy and moist. Fast efficient service but a little high on the price.
google avatar

Trevor C.

Yelp
In the realm of Teriyaki, SAUCE is the coinage of the land. No Cash and Carry or Costco bottles here. Every sauce perfected in it own way - Sweet, Tangy, Sour, Spicy, Salty. Other than that, a good cook and clean shop. Try the lettuce alongside the hot meat and rice as a texture and layering (almost cooling) element, and not as a "iceberg lettuce flecked with carrot only side-salad." Teriyaki meat wrapped in lettuce is actually a nice summer dish in its own right.

Qi H.

Yelp
This place is so good! I always get the chicken teriyaki. The portions are really big & recently I tried the veggie yakisoba I definitely recommend! The veggies are very flavorful as well as the sauce that's made with it. The salad dressing they use is to die for! It's like a sesame dressing. Add your chicken to the salad

Yelp
Best teriyaki spot in a mile radius from Queen Anne. Consistently good chicken, pork, rice (brown, white, or fried), and gyoza. The noodle dishes are decent, and the katsu is good but sometimes a little dry. The 5 stars are for the consistently excellent teriyaki, particularly the regular chicken and pork. I'm also a fan of the iceberg salad that comes with the meal. My wife thinks I'm crazy because it's just iceberg lettuce with a touch of crates carrot and purple cabbage with a sweet creamy dressing on the side, but it's a type I never eat at home or nicer restaurants, and it reminds me of childhood dinners at my grandma's house. Lucky for me, my wife gives me her portion! In summary, Sunny teriyaki is a takeout staple and consistently good value. Exactly what Seattle teriyaki is supposed to be.

Yelp
I've suddenly become a fan of the teriyaki places around here. I guess it is because of the slim pickens of good, close restaurants to go to here in Magnolia. I didn't come her for the teriyaki though. I came here for Korean BBQ short ribs. Our former go-to was Terikayi Bowl on Gilman, but that place was serving up too much fatty meat and the lady taking to-go orders kept messing them up. Here, I like that the meat was grilled and there was less fat on them. The bf ordered the teriyaki beef and liked that the sauce wasn't as sugary as TB's. It's a little more expensive but it was well worth it. Our meals came with little iceberg lettuce salads and miso dressing, which tasted as expected. As we were waiting for our orders and people were coming in and out of the restaurant, the guy behind the counter was nice enough to tell us that the KBBQ takes a little longer to cook. For that sir, I will gladly wait again. Lots of parking. Big portions. Clean establishment. Winner, winner KBBQ dinner!

Yelp
This was my last meal during my short 3 day vacation in Seattle. I put gas in my rental and walked over to the Teriyaki joint. My friend suggested this place because it was the better of the two he was thinking about. I trusted his decision and it was a great decision. I was about to hop on a plan in a few hours and if I was going to be stuck in a plane for that long, i want to get some good food in my system for the flight. I ordered the Spicy chicken teriyaki and it was pretty good. It was a little bit on the saltier side but it was okay over all. The spiciness was also not bad. Maybe kick up the spicy and less the salt and you got a winner for me. Chicken was done very well and it was cooked fresh because we waited a bit for it. The chicken was juicy and hot when i got it. I know some places in hawaii already have it cooked under a heat lamp and what they do is grill it very quickly to give it new taste. Two scoops rice and toss salad was very filling too. This will be my go to teriyaki joint when im in the Seattle / Magnolia area.

Yelp
Cute small Teriyaki shop. Such sweet owners! I came in randomly as I was craving teriyaki and wanted to try a new spot. I parked, and came in. Very small, but so friendly. I came in and ordered the half chicken and half katsu plate. The wait was a tidbit long... I waited about 20 minutes for my food. It wasn't that long, but it felt long. The plate looked small, but it was a lot of food--half chicken, half katsu, rice, and salad. The only thing that sucks--is that their rice they give you is very small. I wish they gave us more rice. A lot of teriyaki places give you like 2 cups of rice. Nonetheless, the food had me full. I think the katsu was a bit overcooked. Yes, it was a bit dry and very very brown, which indicates it was overcooked. Aside from that, they are truly the sweetest people ever. Super nice service, there is free water with cups, and they clean the dishes as long as you bust your own table :)

Yelp
Good Teriyaki. Good service. Since we discovered this place we eat here at least one a week. It's kind of hidden between a pizza place and a convenience store. I've driven right past it a couple of times just because I wasn't paying attention. I've only had the teriyaki, but they have other more basic Americanized Chinese dishes on their menu.
google avatar

L H.

Yelp
I never write reviews but BOY this chicken fried rice was sooooo good. I'm sitting here eating it and my belly could not be any more happier than this. The chicken has such an amazing taste and the overall flavor of this whole dish is incredible. AND comes with a whole bunch so it'll keep you satisfied . A+ to you guys! Thank you!!
google avatar

Yelp
Well I was going to give 2 stars but decide 3 because the lady was nice at the counter. I think the restaurant has changed hands since the last review I posted was excellent. I don't live in the area and do have a teriyaki place walking distance but decided to drive 15mins out of my way because what I thought was good, was not. The Katsu had little meat and dry like jerky. The teriyaki was also not tender, nor juicy and flavorless just a glaze of teriyaki sauce. They don't even give you teriyaki sauce if you do take out and portions are small. I think they should at least give you a little cup of sauce and yes it cost extra if you want more but literally it was just a glaze!! I'm bummed about my lunch but oh well I'll keep searching for a better teriyaki joint.
google avatar

Simon L.

Yelp
I work just down the street from this restaurant and I have had lunch here so many times. The food is great and the owners are very welcoming and know their customers by name!! I think that's awesome...the bathrooms and dining area are kept clean every time I have come in for lunch. Awesome restaurant and good food!!
google avatar

Jeff G.

Yelp
The food was great (not to mention quick & sizable portions), the prices are awesome, and the staff was VERY kind - what more can you ask for in a teriyaki joint? We will definitely be returning!
google avatar

Talia E.

Yelp
This teriyaki place is a no-frills, family-owned, neighborhood teriyaki restaurant. Complete with your Standard Teriyaki Restaurant Vibe. Food is actually good though, so I find myself here regularly. The beef short ribs are my kryptonite ($14, but worth it every now and then). They also do some nice katsu/teriyaki combos, and all the standard teriyaki options (chicken, yakisoba, etc.). Side of gyoza (6 or 12pc) is always nice. Shared parking lot with a gas station -- because, why not. Just on the edge of Magnolia, off Emerson Place.
google avatar

Tony C.

Yelp
Our go-to local teriyaki shop. Spot on each and every time. The service is always fast and friendly too.
google avatar

Jens B.

Yelp
Great spicy pork, and overall good teriyaki. Do not confuse this place with Sunny Teriyaki in Ballard.
google avatar

Larry W.

Yelp
Everything is incredibly fresh. large portions and soo..... good! It's nice to have such a delicious teriyaki place so close to home. The flavor of everything is perfect! Couldn't ask for more!!

Connor A.

Yelp
Easily my go-to spot for teriyaki/katsu in the Ballard area. Portions are huge and always good service (even though I call in takeout almost every time). Their gyoza is amazing, as well as the gyoza sauce. They charge extra (25 cents) for sauce, but definitely worth it. They're white sauce is my favorite to put on my rice. I always get the Katsu no salad extra rice with a half order of gyoza or same thing but Katsu teriyaki combo. My personal record is going 3 times in a week. Sunny is the best teriyaki joint in the area hands down.
google avatar

Ashley T.

Yelp
Great place to get teriyaki in the Ballard area! Decently priced. You can get regular size chicken teriyaki for about 10 bucks
google avatar

Stanley T.

Yelp
Been to a handful of teriyaki places in Seattle and Sunny is my favorite by far! Huge portions and everything on their menu tastes delicious. Chicken and gyoza is my go to every time!
