Sunny’s Review - Red Hook - New York - The Infatuation

"Red Hook has several breweries, a winery, and even its own distillery—but if you’re picking one place to drink in the neighborhood, it should be Sunny’s. This tchotchke-filled bar opened as a saloon for Longshoremen to drink and hang out after working on the shipping docks, and it still feels like a relic you’d find in a time capsule. Sunny's hosts live music nearly every day of the week, and the space out front turns into a pseudo-block party every night." - Hannah Albertine

The friendly hostess Lewis warmly greeted everyone. The establishment was cozy and comfortable, making it an inviting space for all visitors. Its convenient location offered easy access off the highway, which made it a breeze to find. You would also find the area to be clean and pleasant. Furthermore, the staff was very prompt with their service. Looking forward to coming here again for lunch. Thank you Sunny.

Google
Had a great first dine in experience! Very welcoming waitress, Mary, took her time to go over specials and recommendations. Mr Lonnie (the cook) came out and explained about the hand battered onion rings he added in a couple for us so we can order next time.. and we sure will! No doubt about- great homemade cooking. Will be coming back.

Shout out to Ambria!! Best customer service EVER , hey girl . It’s raining here in Fort Worth and she delivered my food to my car door to keep me from getting wet. Red carpet service. Other then the cook cussing like a sailor loud enough for the whole conversation to be heard in the restaurant. I Tried their special omelet which seemed to be all meat and with some veggies with a side of hashbrowns. I will have to say it was almost unbearably salty as well as the hashbrowns. I wouldn't have finished most of it, if it wasn't for the fact the meal itself was $20 not including tip. I'd rather go eat fast food then eat this slop again. Go somewhere else if you want a tasty omelet rather then get robbed here.

Google
We’ve been here two times and Lupe always makes us feel welcomed and cared for. As soon as you walk in, you can sit where you’d like and server comes to take drink order quick. Always checks in if we are doing ok and always tells us when they have specials.

Google
I like to visit one off family restaurants and Sunny's fit the bill. Their food was all well seasoned and a really great value. We had the meatloaf plate with side salad and fried Okra. It also came with a huge roll and butter. The roll tasted homemade. The meatloaf was a very generous serving with a good brown gravy. Okra was also good. Salad was good sized but ordinary. I had grilled pork chops which were very thin but tasty. The side green beans had a nice bacon flavor. All in all a very nice lunch for a great price. The menu is pretty extensive.

Yelp
Every time, I drive by this place. I say to myself, go try it! Then, I saw my friend on here do a Yelp review so, I headed there first chance I got. It's was such a pleasant experience. I notice this used to be the Bavarian Bakery. I came here back in the day, when I was in College. It still has the German decor. It's nice and clean inside. There are a lot of large tables for large Bible Studies or families. I decided to get a. Belgian Waffle for $7.99. It was as large as my plate. My Waffle was warm, crispy, sweet topped with Butter and a side of extra Butter and Syrup on the side. If you are a Senior they have Senior Specials Service was good. The Waitress gave it her all

Yelp
this place is more like 3.5 out of 5 stars. Not sure what happened, but this place doesn't really serve italian food. This place is more like a diner restaurant.... think meatloaf and chicken fried chicken/steak and burgers/sandwiches. Anyways, i rarely come to this area. And was looking for something to get for dinner. When we parked right in front, i felt weird as it was completely empty inside and i thought it was closed. For the food, we ended up getting two different daily specials. The daily specials come with an entree with two different sides. Between the meatloaf and the chicken fried steak, i enjoyed the chicken fried steak more. you also get to pick your choice of carbs, and i went with texas toast. The service was really great. it was just one person working and she was very helpful and friendly.

Yelp
I have never seen this place; it's not really visible from I-20; located off the south frontage road just west of Wichita St. There's plenty of parking out front. The interior is simple with scattered tables and a few booths. Jessica greeted us and pointed out the daily specials listed on a small chalk board on the counter. I had the 2 egg special with bacon, biscuits and gravy. The eggs were cooked just like I ordered, the bacon was crisp, the biscuit and gravy were so tasty!!

Yelp
This past Thursday, my boyfriend and I went to this restaurant for the first time and we highly recommend it. The menu had many options, making it hard to choose just one. I opted for the chicken salad, which was SO delicious. The portion was big, the chicken was savory and juicy, and it was clear that it wasn't frozen. Adding ranch made it even more delicious! My boyfriend's pancakes were very yummy and fluffy! And the service was great. Our server, which I believe her name is Jess, was polite, friendly, and kind. The restaurant's ambiance was cozy and inviting, and we'll definitely return!

Yelp
Decent service, salad, and garlic bread that comes with the meal. I enjoyed the supreme pizza. I wasn't a fan of the chicken alfredo pasta or funnel cake. I always add parmesan cheese to my pasta if there is none. They had parmesan cheese on the back counter. The female owner stated the pasta had enough cheese where parmesan wasn't needed. I'm glad I added it because I didn't taste any cheese in the pasta. The pasta didn't have a flavor to it and the funnel cake was a little hard. The female owner showed me around the establishment. There is a party area hidden in the back. Overall experience is 3 stars. 4 stars for the supreme pizza which I highly recommend.

Yelp
Everything was as I'd hoped it would be. The cornbread was REAL cornbread, like skillet cornbread, textured & not sweet. My ground sirloin steak dinner with gravy was exactly what I wanted it to be, nothing fancy, just honest good down home cooking. The waitress was really good, very pleasant & warm gal who obviously likes people. I felt very welcomed.

Yelp
I got chicken parmigiana and it was amazing. The chicken was tender and juicy and the noodles were al dente. My bf got the chicken Alfredo and the chicken was tender too. Most Italian places can't get the chicken tasting good, but this place did a great job. I love supporting small local shops. Service was good (it was just the owner there). There was ample parking too.

Yelp
This place doesn't serve Italian food only cafe style food, they just haven't got around to letting anyone know on here or google reviews.

Yelp
The food was terrible. My son and grandson stopped by this restaurant on the way from Dallas. Was very dying the taste of the food. It had no seasoning, was cold and the fish, the batter just came off the fish. We said that we would never go back. The service was also terrible. A couple came in and left because after 15 minutes, no one came to the front to take their order.

Yelp
Fresh garlic bread straight out of the oven is bomb! All the other dishes were great, as well as service.

Jennifer H.

Yelp
Oh my goodness this place is amazing. It's so cute with the decor inside. The food was amazing. My husband loved the Salisbury steak because it had grilled onions and peppers in it. We will definitely be back soon.

Zoe T.

Yelp
10/10 for the food, extremely affordable yet taste amazing. The server is so nice and friendly. Highly recommend for everyone. Best part: serving breakfast ALL DAY!

Yelp
This is a relatively new place in forest hill. It's ok food. I'm definitely not driving out of my way to go to this place but the food is edible if you're looking for something close and fast in the neighborhood. There are much better options from nearby Lubys and a few other places. If you're looking for an outstanding meal, you will be disappointed.

Yelp
One of few restaurants in a business park starving for places for lunch & dinner, I found Sunny's on Yelp today when in the area & selected it based on recent favorable reviews. The pizza immediately caught my eye & it was delicious (forgot to photograph my very large multi-topping pizza slice, fresh out of the oven), but another guest later recommended the chicken Parmesan & I wished I had reviewed the menu in more depth. I was delighted to learn they also offer some Balkan (Bosnian) items, so I returned in the evening for the Chevapi, a traditional Bosnian dish of mini hamburger sausages, sliced onion, on Bosnian bread, which was such a pleasant surprise & departure from the Italian pizza, pasta, & salad menu. The new management team has made major changes, including replacing all kitchen equipment. It's a unique spot with quality offerings - give Sunny's a try soon!

Bill J.

Yelp
What a pleasant surprise! My Chicken Fried Steak at Sunny's was tender and delicious, with almost NO gristle. The batter was excellent; you could cut the tenderized steak with a fork. The cream gravy was a bit cool; but, they took care of that immediately! The meal was served with (real) mashed potatoes and a dinner salad. The yeast rolls were homemade, as are their pies and cakes, which looked delicious. Our server, Jessica, was friendly and attentive. I gave my CFS a rating of 4.5 stars (out of five)! My lovely bride's Chicken Fried Chicken was really good, as well; she rated it 4 stars (out of five). Overall, it was the best CFS in quite awhile, and a happy dining experience. As I told the new owner/manager, "We'll be back!"

Yelp
Didn't realize when I ordered the Chicken Alfredo that it came with a salad with two types of dressing and a garlic knot. It's easy to miss off of SE Loop 820 but it's definitely worth to stop by and give it a try. The pasta was amazing and the grilled chicken was seasoned well.

Yelp
I'm on regular for lunch. They usually have good specials. Today is chicken aristocrat; really good! Can't go wrong with the pizza either!

Yelp
Nice & quaint hidden Italian restaurant off I-20 service road between Campus Dr. & Forest Hill exit. Good and fresh food. Highly recommend.

Eddye G.

Yelp
My first visit won't be my last. The meal is prepared after you order, so you aren't getting anything that's been sitting in a heater. My friends and I all had the day's special that included many tasty vegetables in the spaghetti sauce. The salad was fresh and we had plenty of food to take home for dinner. We will go back to try other options. The staff is friendly, and you can enjoy a visit with friends with no rush. The restaurant is small but very pleasant. Tables are a generous size. I had a hard time finding it since it's in a warehouse area. Just keep driving past Whataburger until you spot their window and door signage! It's worth it!

Yelp
Very good service. Nice friendly environment. Little place, but food made up for it. Got a salad which was good and a piece of bread the size of my head. Also ordered Spaghetti and Meatballs, pretty good however I've been looking on here and i'm seeing pizza is more of their thing, so sorry for ordering the wrong thing! But the biggest highlight was when we asked for dessert and our server brought us out a amazing brownie dessert. Best dessert I've had in a while. Overall, very great environment with great food!

Yelp
I've never had Balkan food until I went here and I can't get enough of it! Service is good and it has a quiet ambiance. Good escape in Forest Hill.

Tempestt H.

Yelp
This place is a hidden gem! Very authentic and they did not disappoint! And the customer service was awesome!

Lonn F.

Yelp
Great tasting Chicken Alfredo dish for its price. The server and cook are very attentive. Good place to sit down to have lunch with friends.

Shenika M.

Yelp
Foods was good at the chicken Alfredo (was huge) and ordered a medium pizza. Friendly customer service.

Sheryl S.

Yelp
I was looking for Italian restaurants in the Forest Hill area and found good reviews for Sunny's. Apparently, the former tenants had been gone for a while, so the word hasn't gotten out that Sunny's is even in business. I am so glad we tried this gem out! Everything we tasted was fantastic....and made in house, and fresh. Everyone should experience the outstanding food, especially the homemade rolls and the scrumptious homemade desserts. The pizzas we saw were loaded with toppings, and the lasagna was incredible. It's a bit of a drive for me, but I'll gladly navigate the traffic to get there again!

Amelia V.

Yelp
We had a great dinner here while in town. The lasagna and pastas were very good and service was excellent!

Roberta S.

Yelp
Under new ownership. Pizza and salads are great. Been going for lunch the last few months. So nice to have a restaurant that not owned by a chain. Let's support this local restaurant folks!

Stormie S.

Yelp
This cute little restaurant is amazing! The rolls is what struck my attention at first, but the actual entrees are made perfectly. I got the Alfredo pizza and my husband got the chicken parmigiana. We both really enjoyed it! The rolls that come with the meals are just "melt in your mouth." We even ate desert and really enjoyed the cake recommendation from our friendliest server. Don't be fooled by the cute, smallness of the place. In the back, the space can hold up to 300 people for events as well! Go check this place out, you won't regret it!
