Sunny's - Review - Walthamstow - London - The Infatuation

"Sunny’s is a bright and airy coffee shop in Walthamstow that subscribes to social media’s ‘clean aesthetic’—hanging rope plant pots, dangly light bulbs, and pine pegboard shelves for status symbol bags of coffee beans. But don’t write it off as a cut-and-paste east London coffee shop. The family who run this spot are much warmer than the minimalist interiors suggest. This is a place where regulars stop for lingering chats with staff, dogs are petted absent-mindedly by laptop-users, and cups of masala chai are nursed by gossiping friends. The menu is full of classic brunch dishes, and some have been given an Indian-inspired twist—like the Mumbai cheesy beans on toast and bacon paratha roll. It’s comforting, generous food, with lots of vegetarian options. This is not going to replace your favourite brunch spot, but we like to drop by when we’re in the area for easy morning meals and golden retriever-levels of friendliness. photo credit: Sunny's photo credit: Sunny's Food Rundown Sweetcorn Fritters You don’t come to Sunny’s for elegant, delicate little plates—the puck-sized, thick sweetcorn fritters exemplify that. They’re packed full of sweet nuggets of corn and spring onion. We like that there isn’t even a hint of grease, and we really like the addition of chilli jam. You have the choice of adding halloumi, poached egg, or mushrooms. For us, it’s the saucy, runny yolk every time. photo credit: Sinéad Cranna" - Sinéad Cranna

Coffee Boxx - Review - Walthamstow - London - The Infatuation

"Coffee Boxx is a brunch spot with a lot of heart. It’s along Walthamstow’s trendy Wood Street but it’s not aloof or doing coffee extraction TED talks. Instead it’s somewhere for the community to pile into—everyone, not just the ones with hand poke tattoos. It’s the kind of place where if someone sneezes, they’ll be met with a chorus of ‘bless yous’. The staff shout out, ‘the usual?’ pretty much every time the door swings open, dogs are greeted by name and pad out onto the heated terrace, and laptop users (yes, there are plug sockets) fuel morning meetings with generous plates of Mumbai cheesy beans on toast. The solid vegetarian dishes are a mix of Indian and classic brunch dishes. See a tikka wrap and eggs paratha roll. Although there are peanut butter and jam bagels for children, and a straightforward avocado on toast too. Walthamstow isn’t short of coffee shops, but this one stands out for its golden retriever-levels of friendliness. photo credit: Aleksandra Boruch photo credit: Aleksandra Boruch photo credit: Aleksandra Boruch Food Rundown photo credit: Aleksandra Boruch Mumbai Cheesy Beans On Toast If you order this, congratulations, you’ve just discovered a new comfort food. Doorstop thick sourdough and tomatoey, mildly spiced beans come covered with melted cheese. And then a gooey fried egg. And then a showering of crispy onions. It’s the kind of thing we’d make if we were hungover, but it’s much prettier here. photo credit: Aleksandra Boruch Mumbai Eggs Paratha Roll This isn’t the prettiest or most delicate paratha or omelette we’ve had, but it does deliver on flavour. The spicing is nice, it’s a little smoky, and we’re big fans of the tamarind and chilli aioli that’s thickly drizzled on top." - Sinéad Cranna

Food is v average, not worth the money. Menu said 2 eggs, we were given 1. Halloumi tastes like old oil. Service - not great, asked to buy an extra piece of toast and we were told no. Had to go to front to order because wait at the table was too long

Visited today and I’ve gotta say it’s probably the best cafe I’ve been to in London. The staff were super friendly and went above and beyond for us (especially Ellie - they are a superstar!). Really made it a nice atmosphere and nothing was a bother. The food was top tier. The bread is proper sourdough, great quality eggs and Halloumi. Also gotta shout out the spicy beans they were out of this world! Real loose leaf tea and great coffee too. I’m gonna stop now, but I could sing their praises all day. Thanks for the great experience :)

The food is good. Second time coming here now. But I feel like the atmosphere has gotten worse. Doesn’t look very appealing, outside at least. There are dead plants and a random wall with gaps. No one introduces you to a table and tells you that you need to scan a code to order etc. My napkin was wet (assuming from the wet utensils). The outside area feels like a greenhouse, it gets extremely warm when the sun is out and cold otherwise. The service and the atmosphere can be better.

Yummy food. *Abysmal* service. The owner is slamming dishes into the sink and audibly huffing and puffing. No greeting or acknowledgement when you arrive or leave. Online order system is broken. When the food came, our napkins were soaking wet and there was a hair on my plate. By this stage we didn’t bother saying anything because all 3 staff were just ‘on one’. Such a shame because we enjoyed the hair-free bits of our bacon paratha and the ice latte was nice. Sadly we won’t be back.

I had the most incredible brunch at this cafe today. I’m still thinking about it late into the evening. You know when you can tell a chef has put so much care into selecting ingredients that compliment each other so well. Tomato relish and halloumi were a highlight and loved the addition of spring onions on the eggs. My only small complaint or recommendation would be my table had crumbles on it when I sat down so I think it would improve the experience if staff had wiped down the table before I sat. Will be coming again!

One of the best breakfast places (if not the best) I’ve been to in London! The flavors are amazing, hitting the right spot. The chef is very skilled, and executed the idea of British twist on Indian food very well. This place is not only food, but also the details: mild music in the background, beautiful tableware, nice garden and friendly staff. Respect to the owner, we will definitely come back.

Google
The high rating of this place on Google reviews (4.8) would indicate this place is outstanding. Unfortunately, it doesn’t stand up to the competition. Either people haven’t visited the better places or don’t have a high benchmark. Recommendation to management - the coffee making skills are below average - the food was a bit tasteless and overcooked

It's always a nice place to have brunch. The home made chai was delicious. The new menu has some delicious flavours. Super recommended if you are in the area. The team is super friendly and they will help you in case you don't know what to eat or drink.
