Yelp
This bakery rocks my socks.
My parents and I were driving back home for the summer from Lincoln, NE. Beatrice is a small town located about an hour away on our drive, and so we decided to just check the place out for a bit. We found a restaurant that got good reviews on Yelp (The Black Crow), but it didn't open for lunch for another half-hour, so we decided to chill at the Sunrise Bakery just a few doors down.
The place is kinda small, but there's plenty of selection and ample seating. The young lady at the counter (whose name I really wish I could remember) was really sweet and funny. My parents got an elephant ear to split, while I couldn't decide because everything looked good. I asked the girl what the best treat was, and she suggested the "Long John," which was a rectangular pastry with sprinkles. They had a bunch of different kinds, so I told her to surprise me. She selected a creme-filled, chocolate sprinkle-topped one that looked delicious; she said I'd love it.
We also got a water and a green tea because it was a warm, humid day. We get to the check-out counter and the girl rings everything up: $3.63. I remind her of everything we got because I liked the place and didn't want them to shortchange themselves by forgetting to add something. The girl tells me that no, that's everything. I stared at the price is disbelief for a solid second. Two doughnuts and two drinks for less than 4 bucks!
And the best part is the Long John was GOOD. It was soft and chewy and...it was just so good. Looking back on it, I don't know why I didn't get like an entire box of them to go *kicks self*
As much ragging as I do on small towns, the Sunrise Bakery really is a gem. Great snacks at great prices, and plenty of charm to boot. The next time I'm driving to or from Lincoln, I'm definitely gonna try and stop in here.
