LA Restaurant Industry Experts Discuss the Biggest Dining Surprises of 2019 | Eater LA

"I discovered Sunrise Cafe serving excellent Korean stews and a habit-forming katsu curry bowl — notably operating inside a North Hollywood Ford dealership, which makes the whole experience delightfully unexpected." - Matthew Kang

Pros: Very good food and large portions. Friendly staff. Con: $.80 service fee for credit card. They charged me $1.50 extra for a biscuit even though it states on menu biscuit or toast included w/omelet. When I pointed this out, waitress still did not reimburse me. She said it used to be stated on menu. Waitress forgot my coffee. I had to ask for it.

We’ve been there maybe 10 times now and the food has always been consistent as has the service. It doesn’t look like much from the outside, but it’s definitely worth it for the food and to support local. The one thing I would change though is the decoration. There is so much potential for nice decorating. There is a huge wood bar back, with a few glasses on it but primarily seems to be used for storage. I’ve been in there and they’ve been half empty boxes worse than that though to me personally is the delicious selection of fake flowers. There’s even a cowboy boot style vase, which has Christmas decor of some sort inside of it to me fake flowers just collect dust dirt and grime. It doesn’t help when none of them match. I will also say the last time we went I used the restrooms for the first time And they could definitely do with a fresh lick of paint and new caulking around the toilet. None of this will stop me going, but my goodness I wish I could get my hands on it because I could really make it beautiful.

Absolutely the best breakfast place in the area with a delicious hispanic twist! And they have some seafood dishes that I absolutely adore! Explore the menu which is pretty big for every picky eater. The staff is very helpful and friendly! Check in line may be long on the weekends. P.s. save some space for amazing banana bread French toast!

My husband and I went here for breakfast. They have a pretty good array of foods from breakfast to burgers, salads, sandwiches and wraps. We had the French toast and the lobster eggs Benedict. It was absolutely delicious!!! You must try this place. Our friend recommended this place and we're glad we tried it. We will definitely be back 😁😁

Absolutely loved the vibe here. Manager is so sweet recommended a drink that I absolutely love. Food portions are more than enough. For sure one of my new fav spots in Reno!!!

Portions are humongous! Big enough to split which helps with the price. I had the corn beef hash since it was home made. It was a lot of food. The corn beef was tasty but a little bit on the dry side. since I had my eggs sunny side up it was fine as nothing beats a corn beef hash smothered in yolky goodness. Benedicts were not great as eggs were overcooked, though hollandaise was not bad. The fresh squeezed orange juice and a cappuccino rounded out our meal. One of our party ordered french toast which came smothered in a fresh berry compote of some sort. Looked delicious. You can get a fruit substitution on any of the breakfasts and it comes with a generous portion of mixed fruit including berries, not just your typical cantaloupe and bananas.

The sunrise cafe has a very nice quiet atmosphere and was moderately busy. The wait staff was very polite, friendly, and quick. My wife and I noticed there were no children in the restaurant and there was no kids menu. The food was good cooked to perfection. The omelettes were pretty large compared to other breakfast restaurants I’ve been to. The food presentation was beautiful, and arranged as you would expect at a higher end restaurant. Price for the food would be $$$. For 4 adults breakfast cost me $75. At our table we had: -biscuits and gravy. They were easily the best I have ever had from a any diner or restaurant. -under the sea omelette -lobster omelette. The lobster omelette was large. At 6’1” and 200 lbs. I could not finish it. The only complaint would be the lobster omelette has asparagus in it, and there seemed to use quite a bit of the fibrous end of the asparagus. Overall, I will definitely be returning here.

Pretty good restaurant. The food is well prepared, and the quantity is large! The menu has a lot of food choices on it. It's definitely a hidden gem in South Reno.
