The 19 Best Wine Shops for Texas Wines in Austin | Eater Austin

"This Crestview convenience store-slash-gas station is Austin’s worst-kept wine secret. The bottle selection is massive yet well-curated with a big emphasis on natural wines, thanks to Sam Rozani. Take your time examining the shelves or opt to browse the website. Currently, there are several options from Southold Farm + Cellar. To-go bottles can be purchased in person or for pickup and delivery online." - Nadia Chaudhury

Google
The wine selection here is INSANELY cool. Got four fabulous natural wines for around $100 total, super good pricing on some of them—my favorite was the Etteilla “Set” wine from 2022. It wasn’t really crowded even though it’s a smallish building, the music was very cool and funky, and the workers were chill and friendly. Some natural wine shops can be a little intimidating and pretentious, but this place was neither of those things. Very cool spot that I will definitely make it a point to visit when I’m in the city.

Google
My favorite retail wine selection in Austin! You can ALWAYS find something cool at lots of different price points. And the people behind the counter are friendly:) Highly recommend the Patel co-ferment.

Google
This is the best natural wine store in Austin. If you havent been, you'll be blown away by their selection and knowledge of the product. Also, very convenient if you need to gas up at the same time!

Miranda Godinez

Google
This store always has the best wines near us. There’s an amazing natural wine selection with great prices.

Google
Sam has an immense amount of knowledge on Champagne; more than anyone I think I have ever met. Great advice, great selection, everyone was so happy with what I got from here. Thank you Sam, for all of your help and time!

Tome Gross

Google
Sam is a saint and a scholar, especially when it comes to natural wines and small batch liquors! Discovered this place a few year ago after seeing it highlighted in Food and Wine Magazine and now make a pit stop for wine every time I’m in Austin. Sam helped me curate a case and I’m already looking forward to my next visit! Don’t forget to check out the liquor store next door, they carry hard to find and specialty liquors!

Google
The worker was very friendly and knowledgeable about his inventory. I went there looking for a Belgian Trappiste Quad and he had it and showed me right to it. I was trying not to drool over their barrel aged and sour beer selection. I'll definitely be back. This place met up to the hype.

Google
Subash is great and personable. Already Knows what I want when I walk through the door lol. Highly Recommend this convenience store. They have quite large collection of wine here too, 5 stars!

Yelp
A lot more than meets the eye with a huge selection of craft beverages, bougie treats, and a friendly staff. I came in here bleary eyed after a morning workout for a canned coffee and was super impressed by the offerings, so much so that I've made a point to come back with friends to buy drinks for our weekend.
google avatar

Miguel L.

Yelp
Pricing is average, but the wine selection is phenomenal, best you winery after the liquor stores close.

Yelp
Amazing beer selection here. 2 walls of cold beers including singles and bombers. Friendly staff too. Once, the clerk swapped a newly released beer into my 6 pack so I could get a little sample. They carry standard corner store stuff too. Some of the snacks and ice cream are of the high end variety.

John C.

Yelp
As a whole, I like the store. A good selection of snacks and beer. They've got a variety of the lower cost scratchers too, but here's where the problem starts. The first time I was in there, the cashier had sold me my beer, cigarettes and scratchers, with no problems all on debit card. Just now I was in there and a darker, short haired Hispanic guy told me "Scratchers are cash only". So I told him, no they aren't, I bought them here the other day on debit. You just cant sell them on credit. So he looked around like he was looking for something for like two seconds, grabbed my smokes, rang me up, and took the liberty of choosing credit for me. So nothings really wrong with the store, but they do have one lousy employee that I know of.

Yelp
I was up north the other night for New Year's Eve when my friend and I realized we were really going to need some essentials to get through the night. She suggested that we go to Sunrise and I said ok, I know nothing about the northlands so lead me in that direction! When we pulled up I was like ... ok this looks like your typical citgo gas station ... nothing special from the outside at all. Then as I got closer to the door and could see a bit on the inside I quickly started realizing that I had pulled up to something pretty amazing. The sun definitely had risen ... this was like the Live Oak of South Austin, but for the Austinites of the northlands. Pretty much anything local you can get your hands on you can find in here, which makes it cool. Craft beers out the wazoo, fancy special drinks of all kinds, specialty popcorn made in atx, lavender soap, or organic chocolate of all flavors for your liking. This place was definitely a surprise to roll up on. The other thing that I could tell makes this place so special was the staff. My friend that took me here knew them by name and carried on a conversation with them about what they were doing for the holiday. They also discussed the beer that he had recommended to her on her last visit. I mean this was first class, friendly service. When I am back in the northlands of Austin I will always remember this unassuming, hidden gem.

Yelp
Wow... what a great mini mart! If you need it, they got it. From organic fancy chocolate to a unique cooking ingredient and most importantly... BEER. I came here because of the raving reviews about their beer selection. I was visiting Texas and wanted to get some good beers to take home to Pittsburgh. I hit the jackpot with this place and scored some great finds. I also found some delicious local kombucha which I really enjoyed. Highly recommend!
google avatar

Cassy R.

Yelp
Friendly service and amazing wine selection. They even have some great chocolates. I even called in advance asking about a specific wine and they went and looked for me.

Yelp
You would not know it from the outside, but this store has an OUTSTANDING, craft beer selection. Sam and his staff are very helpful. There are a few other Sunrise markets in town, but none are anywhere close to this one. If you are a craft beer lover, do yourself a favor, visit this place - if you are having trouble finding something new, ask - You will walk away with a something good to try - An added bonus is that East Side pies is next door - great pizza by the slice.

Patrick G.

Yelp
Fantastic selection, huge variety of beer, wine, drinks, ice cream and snacks. Great service/people. Little pricey but that's to be expected at a convenience store.
google avatar

Kris U.

Yelp
Here you will find Beer-nirvana! There are several refrigerated cases and two main aisles chock full of a variety of craft beer for sale, including some of the harder-to-find bombers and special releases. What you won't find is the most competitive pricing, *if* you can find the same beer at Whole Foods, Central Market or Highland Market Recent Pricing Comparisons (rounded up a penny): * Stone Xocoveza 6-pack: Sunrise - $17 / Central Market - $15 / Whole Foods - was on sale for $15, now $17 but with a case discount = $15.30 * Founders Backwards Bastard 6-Pack: Sunrise - $18 / Highland Market - $15.60 * Prairie Artisan Pirate Bomb 12 oz bottle: Sunrise - $13 / Whole Foods - $12 / Highland Market - $12 * Deschutes Dissident bomber: Sunrise - $18 / Whole Foods - $16 * Epic Double Barrel Big Bad Baptist bomber: Sunrise - $18 / Whole Foods - $16 (in the 'secret' section) / Highland Market - $17 Pro Tip: You should bring your own bag or cardboard carrier if you are planning to stock up. Otherwise take your chances on the single ply plastic bag provided or hand carry your bottles out of the store.

Marissa A.

Yelp
I went out of my way to visit this store because I heard they have a pretty good wine selection, and I like supporting smaller businesses. I was bummed to walk in and see neither man behind the counter wearing a mask. If you don't respect your community and customers enough to simply wear a mask, I won't give you my money.
google avatar

Yelp
Perhaps the most unique Artisan convenience store ever. They have a main root ginger beer and Mexican Cola fountain drink selection. Who does that? Imagine a convenience store with chips and drinks and and beer and wine, but everything is unique different and definitely thought through. Stuff you could find at Whole foods. Speaking with Sam the manager, he talks about passion versus business, and he makes a good point. Passion first, business will come Why not create a convenience store like what they have built here, and also feature quality, unique Goods available with knowledgeable staff? Highly recommend.
google avatar

Luci H.

Yelp
Yes. This place is all the things. There is so much packed in between the walls of Sunrise. Beer, wine, snacks - they've got it covered. They even sell ice, but it's hard to find.
google avatar

April S.

Yelp
I love Sunrise. It's a great source for any and all beverages. They have a great artisan soda selection, pretty much any ready-to-drink coffee you could want and some great snack options that are definitely a large step up from your typical convenience store. But that's not really why you come here. Sunrise is THE neighborhood spot for craft beer. Walls of fridge cases full of beer on top of the tightly packed shelves displaying almost every beer you could want. They easily have one of the best selections of Jesterking in Austin (outside of the brewery). On top of that, Sam is the man! Become a regular and from time to time they'll hold something for you when it comes in (obviously within reason). It's nice to walk into a store and be instantly recognized. Not only that, if something just came in that fits the type of beer we are usually looking for, Sam remembers and lets us know. LOVE this place.
google avatar

Chris S.

Yelp
Sunrise remains a great place to find a huge selection of interesting craft and local beer. I am dropping a star from my previous review, because Sunrise is not a great place to find truly limited releases. Those are held back and distributed to friends and insiders before normal customers have a chance. Other shops seem to be more transparent and fair about access to really sought-after beers. But, hey, if you are one of the guys that gets the hookup here, I'm sure life is good. Sunrise probably deserves a better review, but I am disappointed in this business practice. I will probably be going elsewhere from now on.
google avatar

Yelp
Clark Kent's disguise was a pair of nerdy glasses. Sunrise bottle shop is disguised as a hole in the wall gas & service station. Yes, there is gas outside (at least I think the pumps work), but inside is everything BUT seven eleven goods. That's how I have driven past this place a thousand times and never knew of it's existence until a Hopdoddy bartender recommended my husband stop here to get a hard to find beer. You won't find the typical junk food or grease pit delights here. Instead you will find organic, gluten free, all natural treats and snacks (from local Austin companies when possible). Instead of Hershey Bars you will find boutique quality chocolate. Most importantly you will find an amazing selection of beer, ciders, mead, and wine at decent prices. Often you will find hard to find items here, that you can't find anywhere else. Everywhere else had run out of Eastside Pineapple Cider, except for here. The owners are extremely knowledgeable and nice. Sam is great. They have such passion for their job and the store. So excited that Sunrise is in my new hood. This place is amazing! They have an active twitter feed that keeps you posted on new items that come in and any tastings that they might be doing. I don't often set up tweet notifications, but for this place I did!

Yelp
I can check beer tasting at Sunrise Mini Mart off the bucket list! Ok, so maybe it really wasn't on my list but it should have been. When I saw that Spaten would be sampling some of their products I headed over and was nicely surprised by the samples from Breckenridge Brewery. Being a fan of Spaten I am familiar with their products and they really didn't have anything new to taste and no real specials unless you count the free bottle openers,Thank You! Breckenridge Brewery had 4 products to sample and a special offer if you wished to purchase a twelve pack of these tasty beers. They had the best offer going and their Vanilla Porter was super yummy! Sunrise offered up a small space off to the side of the front counter to sample beersfrom the three breweries present. It was kind of funny watching peoples faces as they came in to pay for their gas or purchases an item and they see people drinking beer samples. Thanks for posting this event, we had a great time!

Yelp
Unbeatable service and selection. Sam is top notch. If they don't have something you want, just ask and he will do his best to get it for you. Unbeatable service and selection. Almost the entire shop is filled with beer and some more uncommon delicious snacks. They have these cookies from Wackym's Kitchen that I'm addicted to. They have a whole stand up freezer with small batch ice creams, and another freezer by the door with more common ones. They also accept Apple Pay for when I can't find my wallet, which is great for people with ADD! I can also self-medicate with delicious beer whenever I have a rough day at work! Did I mention unbeatable service and selection?? :-)

Yelp
So, I was in town on business and was looking for local brews to take home back to California and I drove up to Sunrise Mini Mart and was kindly greeted by Sam outside while he was taking a smoke break. I had been searching for locations and breweries to visit when I came across a ton of great reviews owed up to great selection and awesome customer service. I went inside and asked where the craft brews were and the older gentleman suggested I just go back and talk to Sam outside. Sam immediately walked me in, eager to share his bounty. Sam made recommendations for local brews and even clued me in to the limited series brews he had behind the counter. Not only did he recommend local brews but even suggested some new things to me from New Zealand and stuff that I can get back home but was not in the know about. Very knowledgeable and very friendly service with huge selection makes for a great business. Don't hesitate to come in and ask for Sam - He'll treat you right. PS - I stopped by Speck a few days later which is the equivalent to my local BevMo and Total Wine in Southern California (but bigger). Sam had a better selection of craft brews. Period. Sam - I meant it when I said I'd be back with some fresh Pliny the Elder next time I'm in town. You paid it forward and I'll return the favor. Hopefully I'll have some Heady Topper for you too. Prost!

Yelp
Holy Beer Selection Batman. That is all. (Seriously. Blown away.)

Wendy F.

Yelp
They have a great selection of beer & wine including natural wines. The owner has included his own tasting notes as well. Awesome selection of artisan chocolates & confections as well as ice creams and non alcoholic drinks. This spot is a gem.

Yelp
Is this a C-store or a a craft beer lover's wet dream? Seriously, be careful here. You could spend an hour perusing the beer selection, just like a nerd in a book store. Indecision is a curse here. The guy who appears to be running the place is either a craft beer lover or some kind of god. He saw my selections and suggested an additional beer very similar and also another local brewery. I was incredibly impressed with the amount of Texas beers he had here. Sure, some of the prices are kind of rapey but when you can't find some of these beers ANYWHERE you will fork over the money, or perhaps you could possibly haggle with him? I see no problem there. I walked out of there spending $15 on two beers. Yes, just two beers I could drink by myself. And I will gladly come back and do it all over again. Oh yea, they have wine and probably some gas pumps but I didn't bother with such ordinary day to day things like that.
google avatar

Mary Ann K.

Yelp
What a fantastic place! Such an extensive selection of wines, specifically natural wines. Lots of thoughtful and well written sticky note comments about many of the wines. Allow enough time here! Extremely helpful and informative staff, too! We'll be back.
google avatar

Andrew D.

Yelp
I never knew how many different kinds of root beer I wanted to drink until I saw them all on display at Sunrise. The main offering, of course, is the wide selection of beers, but they also carry a diverse array of snacks, ice creams, and non-alcoholic beverages. As the boyfriend of a vegan, I appreciate all the vegan-friendly snacks they stock. Recently we found a couple pints of dairy-free Ben & Jerry's, and that stuff you can't even find at gigantic grocery stores (we've checked). Vegan cookies, awesome obscure chocolate bars, plus everything else you've come to expect from any bog-standard convenience store, like mainstream soft drinks and Gatorade and whatnot. I have no idea how it all fits in there. This place is one of the major perks of living in the neighborhood. Everyone deserves to have a convenience store this awesome within walking distance.
google avatar

Sheena C.

Yelp
We also found this place by (happy) accident when we missed the turn to East Side Pies. What a selection! Beer, wine, mead, cider, wine, mixers - top notch stuff. They even have a selection of fancy ice cream. I don't remember the name, but damn did it look delicious. Such an unassuming little gem!
google avatar

Chris B.

Yelp
If you have a hard time making decisions you may want to avoid this place. Their selection is very vast and it can make going out to 'grab a sixer' quite the task. Aside from the epic selection of beers, the people running Sunrise are really welcoming and nice. I don't even understand how anyone could rate this place less than 5 stars. It's truly a great place.
google avatar

N S.

Yelp
Insane natural wine variety. So exciting. I was truly floored and can't wait to spend all my money here. Also, Sam really is so lovely
google avatar

Keith M.

Yelp
Great bottle shop. These guys have a veritable plethora of awesome brews. If you like barrel aged, sours, or anything in the realm of ciders / high end brews, this is the place for you. By it's appearance you'd think it's just the run-of-the-mill corner store, but tucked within is a treasure chest of goodness.
google avatar

Christine M.

Yelp
If I could give these guys any additional stars, I totally would! Called today while on my way to Austin, in search of a particularly high-demand beer. They didn't have it, but offered up the contact info for a competitor that did, noting that the other place had just posted on social media that they had the beer in stock. Totally Miracle on 34th Street Beer Santa! THAT is service! Thanks, Sunrise!!
google avatar

Colin D.

Yelp
This place looks exactly like any other gas station from the outside, but inside they also have one of the better beer selections I've seen anywhere. They beat even most specialty beer stores. It's kind of stunning. The prices aren't amazing, but they're no worse than anywhere else. A truly rare find.
google avatar

Ash M.

Yelp
This place is so unassuming, but IF YOU DON'T STOP HERE YOU'LL REGRET IT FOR THE REST OF YOUR LIFE. I honestly couldn't believe my eyes when I walked into this place. You want it, they've got it. Also, the owner is a ridiculously nice guy (and will give you a pretty badass sticker promoting the bottle shop if you want one). I was honestly too overwhelmed by the beer selection to even venture into the snacks. I'm not sure I'll ever make it there...
google avatar

Kent L.

Yelp
Sunrise is an inter-dimensional portal to beer worlds, and eclectic and at times strange nourishments. Always friendly and ready to talk about what they provide. On my most recent trip we talked about their new offering of on tap nitrogen infused coffee. If there is a beer you are having trouble finding try this place!
google avatar

Annie N.

Yelp
5 stars, because it's not everyday you walk into what appears to be your average gas station market to find out that it's more than a mini mart -- it's a mini mart with an incredible selection of beer, wine, sodas and snacks! We are talking about beers that I haven't even seen before and snacks ranging from turkey jerky to fair trade chocolate. I am more than impressed with this mini mart. I love how Sunrise proves to customers that a mini mart can really go above and beyond expectations. Sunrise really knows how to cater to its Austin community and because of this, I suggest you come here and support your local business!
google avatar

Jackie G.

Yelp
Terrific experience. Great food and warm hospitality. A family atmosphere. Thank you!
google avatar

Jeff S.

Yelp
Love Sunrise Mini Mart! The staff is really friendly & even participated in a "Periscope" vlog that my wife was doing the last time we went there. Living south of Austin I'm hardly north but when I am, I make a point to stop here. As a connoisseur of fine craft beer, this place rocks & has a great selection of rarities & other beers you may not be able to find at your local grocery or liquor store. As more & more of these convenience stores are racing to supply & attract the craft beer enthusiasts, Sunrise can honestly say they were one of the first & has a very solid reputation in the craft beer community. If you're looking for something in particular & cannot find it in the store or anywhere else, just ask. They do stash the very high-demand stuff to keep people from buying them out & might have limits to what they can sell. They can also order for you. As far as I'm concerned, Sunrise rocks! I do have my handful of beer stores closer to where I live but these guys have my respect & I try to show my support whenever I can!
google avatar

Kyle M.

Yelp
Simply put: this place is incredible. Funky, hard to find wines that will satisfy every type of wine drinker. Not to mention the incredible selection of beers. They have everything you need to make your night one that friends will remember
google avatar

Daniel L.

Yelp
This is one of the coolest Mini Marts I have been to! Sam is such a nice guy, come by and see for yourself! They have an awesome beer and wine selection plus all kinds of other food finds you would never think to be in there!
google avatar

Monica M.

Yelp
Finally some people figured out that I want more than Frito's and salsa and Snicker's bars at a convenience store. Sometimes I actually need food. Not only that, there are gourmet selections here! Hot diggity!
google avatar

Haleigh S.

Yelp
What a great place! From the outside, this place looks like a low-end gas station, but walk inside, and BAZINGA! You have entered the land of milk and honey (or beer and chocolate, as the case may be). I can shop here forever - microbrews, ciders, local small batch hot sauces and salsas, gourmet chocolate and grass-fed pemmican.... this place is the bomb. SO glad to have found it. GO HERE and indulge your inner foodie/beer geek, or I swear, you'll regret it the rest of your natural life!
google avatar

Arianna R.

Yelp
I am sarced to post this review because I want to keep this Sunrise Mini Mart a secert. When my friend took me here I was like, "But you don't drink gas station beer". Boy Houdy! Was I suprised! One of the best selections in town for craft beer and signature wines! Lavender and Current Cider, Jester King, Praire!!!!! Holy Cow! The staff is great! Absolutly hilarious! Also they have Bobo's Oat bars, Lick ice cream and other gourmet and specialty foods.
google avatar

Ray R.

Yelp
Best craft beer selection around town one of my favorite locations great staff as well. Cheers

Josue M.

Yelp
OMG! I love this damn place! I know there's a lot more Sunrise Mini-Mart copy cats surfacing around Austin, but there's no other person so dedicated like Sam at Sunrise. The guy is awesome! He's your go-to guy if you have questions about the beers at his store. The guy has shot me straight every single time. Each time he's recommended a beer, I've loved it. He has an amazing selection. I literally feel like a fat kid at a candy store when I go there. If it's your first trip there, don't be afraid to ask Sam or anyone else for advice. These guys know their merchandise and know what people love. I guarantee that you'll be happy with what you crack open.
google avatar

Jamie H.

Yelp
Found this place when looking for a specific beer through the Dechutes Brewery website. Searched it on Yelp and was surprised to see so many 5 star reviews for a mini mart. It has an amazing selection of beer, wine, sake and snacks. There are beers here I don't even see at Spec's or Total Wine. Honestly kind of upset with myself that I didn't find this place sooner, since I do frequent East Aide Pies next door! Totally unassuming hidden gem.
google avatar

Yelp
Let's sing a song, shall we? It's called "I Love Beer" and the only lyrics are, "I love beer." Okay, maybe it's a little more nuanced than that, but do you really think you're going to drunkenly remember the other lyrics? It's easier just to stick with I love beer, that way no one messes it up and no one else gets angry at you for messing up the incredibly simple lyrics. Honestly, if you mess up three little words, you should probably be cut off, anyway. Why is that even relevant? Because anyone who loves beer is going to want to check out Sunrise Mini Mart. I know, it just looks like your run of the mill convenience store from the outside, but this place is like the Cave of Wonders, filled with treasures untold on the inside. All diamonds in the rough are welcome to enter. I mean, you like chanting I love beer... you're definitely a little rough around the edges. There's a whole lot of beer, organized by some seemingly incomprehensible system, but there's not a whole lot of aisles, so you'll figure it out. Perhaps you are also hungry? Everybody understands drunk munchies - luckily for you, you are inside a wondrous convenience store, filled to the brim not only with beer, but also with magical tasty treats and other delights. Pick out something nice for yourself, you've earned it. You can also get gas here. I wouldn't know anything about that because I'm only here for the beer. I imagine you just pay and pump gas, you know? Like any other gas station? It's a pretty standard thing. Sodas, snacks, and beers! Oh, my!
google avatar

Kelly S.

Yelp
This place really is remarkable. Unremarkable from the outside of course but inside... a world of pure imagination. I wander the aisles in this small pocket of heaven agog at the selection of local goodies. No plain ol' boring ol' gas station here. Craft sodas, kombuchas, ciders. Wine in all shades of the wine rainbow. Ice cream from Jeni's and lick. Craft beer from sours to ales to lagers to IPAs from all over the state. Things I haven't even seen before - like cinnamon sugar cookie chips. I walked out with some Angry Orchard, Paqui Tortilla Chips, "White Girl Salsa" and some dark chocolate caramel. Imagine having those options over the pig skins, chex mix and m & ms that you find at a normal pit stop. I would be great if buc-ees could carry some of these brands in their mega-marts.

Olivia Z.

Yelp
Best selection of natural wines, craft beer and gourmet unique snacks. They've always got fun and new stuff to try!

Yelp
My son lives around the corner from this mecca. He loves nothing more than to share all the new releases with his dad. Christmas and birthdays always bring something from this amazing place.

Yelp
I recently stopped by and purchased a case of local, limited production Texas craft beers. I loved everything about this store. It's a gas station liquor store, but an emporium of craft products inside. They carried local craft coffee roasters such as Cuvee, and mind exploding amount of craft beer I have never seen before. My interest was more of the rare Texas craft beers and ciders, and some breweries that don't have distribution in California. I heard to due to some laws it would be difficult to distribute Texas craft beers outside the state. I walked out with a case and lucky for me, I was able to bring them all home with me without a bottle shattering in my luggage and checked backpack. Check their Instagram, Twitter, and Facebook accounts for updates!

Vannezsa S.

Yelp
Everyone's 5 star rating is right on the money. Selection of beers is one of the largest for Austin. If you need a beer recommendation, ask the guys at the register. They have either tired the beer or have some knowledge about the beer and brewery. There is also a small selection of singles. Their facebook and twitter pages have pictures of new arrivals. Open during American holidays. I ran out of butter x-mas morning. They saved my dinner rolls! And my fancy ice cream, chocolate, and nut cravings. Cellar release is a good idea!

Yelp
I work weekends at the Alamo Drafthouse Village and this is an employee secret whenever looking for the best local stuff that's right around the corner. I only go to Sunrise maybe once every few months, but staff always recognizes me and chats for a minute. As everyone has said before, don't judge this Mecca of Booze on the unassuming Gas Station it hides in.
