Google
I stumbled across a TikTok video today where the guy raved that the curry puffs with the cucumber salad at Sunrise Thai were absolutely fire — so of course I had to go check it out for myself. And let me tell you… he wasn’t lying. Sunrise Thai is tucked into a little strip mall, but like the guy said, those are always the best spots — and this place proves it. I ordered the curry puffs and Pad Thai with chicken, and everything was phenomenal. The curry puffs were insanely good — perfectly crispy, packed with flavor, and dipping them into the cucumber salad took it to a whole different level. And the Pad Thai? Delicious. Perfect balance of sweet, savory, and a little tang, with tender chicken and noodles cooked just right. On top of all that, the service was great — friendly, fast, and welcoming. I’m 100% coming back. Sunrise Thai is a hidden gem that absolutely lives up to the hype!

Google
Good food at a great price. The service was a little slow and the staff could have been friendlier but overall we enjoyed the experience and will go again!

Google
FABULOUS!!!! As a Thai, I’d highly recommend this place. The food is AUTHENTIC flavor. I had papaya salad w/ fried chicken and sticky rice, garlic fried rice and pad si eiw and pla dook pad ped for take away.

Everything you want from a family run restaurant. Warm and friendly service, great food, generous portions. Wonderful experience.

Absolutely delicious and truly authentic! I had the best Thai papaya salad!

My husband and I decided to try this place and all our expectations were exceeded! They have a wide range of menu that I haven’t seen in any other Thai place we’ve been so we tried the curry puffs, duck curry, and wonton soup along with our usual crab Rangoon. All the items we ordered were beyond delicious. They tasted fresh and not greasy. Cooked to perfection especially the Rangoon. The sauce also provided a good balance to the crispness of the Rangoon and puffs. This place is a hole in the wall. The inside is also well kept and modernized. We will definitely come back to this place as this is now our number 1 go to Thai restaurant! Bonus is that the staff were friendly and attentive :)

Was in the area and decided to try Sunrise Thai. I ordered Veggie Pad Thai and a Spring Roll. The person who provided my order was nice and the inside of the restaurant itself is very cozy and beautifully decorated. My Pad Thai was delicious. Veggies could have been a little more crisp/ fresh but the flavor and sauce was great. I asked for medium heat and it was perfect. They did not dissapoint. My Spring Roll was a little small but every restaurant is different. It had a peppery taste that I don't normally find in my Spring Rolls but it was hot and crispy as I did eat it in my car soon after getting my order.

If you are craving for some authentic Thai food then this is the place! Not only the food was awesome but they helped us select the right food! Guided us on the ingredients as well! Yum food! The Thai curry was fabulous! Fried rice was ok but pad Thai was delicious! Overall worth the visit!

Yelp
There's nothing better than quality and consistency. A Thai restaurant is a destination to enjoy the culinary experts of a down to earth culture. The authenticity is in the work of the kitchen's staff. This is going to be my month to month Thai restaurant for visiting with friends. I ordered the pad Thai style with glass noodles. I cannot find any other local Thai restaurant that is currently serving glass noodles in this form. Almost all ingredients that are imported are extremely expensive, and since Thai restaurants are having a challenge with costs, it's a premium. My friend ordered a drunken noodle, which frankly, I should probably try some time, however, given the fact that there's not many places that makes pad Thai with glass noodles, I stick with what I know. The interior is perfect for the sit down experience, the aesthetics are pleasing, as the room is bright yellow, and I'm saying that with love. Well I was there I seen at least 10 people do carry out, so you know that's a good sign as well.

Yelp
The food was excellent! Thai spice was perfect and the curry puffs to die for! My 6 year old devoured them! We will definitely be back!

Yelp
This is my go to spot but lately I've been disappointed in the amount of chicken in the pad Thai. So this time I ordered "extra" chicken, it was $5.00 and not a generous portion. It was what a regular amount should look like in a $15 pad Thai dish. Ugh.

Yelp
First time trying! Got takeout. Super good, food is full of flavor. I got drunken noodles with chicken & B10. I asked for mild, be aware it's more like mild + , has a slight kick to it but I loved it. The crab Rangoon was delicious. Actually some of the best I've had in a while. Hats off to the chef.

Yelp
Did takeout tonight here and it was my first time - I was in the area and craving Thai food. I was supposed to have dinner with a friend tonight but she canceled so I wanted to treat myself to takeout. Their dinner prices are very reasonable for a chicken dish ... My pad cashew was $12, and I know others in the area are $14-16. The Thai iced tea was $4 which is on par with others in the area. I wanted a spring roll and the person on the phone asked me how many... Generally I'm eating with my fiance but tonight it was just me, so I asked if I could get an egg roll for one, which they offer! ($1.50) The food was very good although I did think it was a little spicy and I ordered mild (that may be on me, though ... I can't do much spice). The place looked small but very cute so I wouldn't mind dining in another time, as well. Based on this experience I would get take out from there again, as everything was very tasty.

TM M.

Yelp
Disappointed. Fresh rolls sloppily made and peanut sauce looked and smelled spoiled. Threw it out. Inedible. N2 skimped on beef and shrimp. Pad cashew featured insufficient vegetables. Pass on a second visit especially after they begged for a tip on a pick up order. #SMH

Yelp
Clean and peaceful restaurant. Got takeout on a Saturday night - staff is super friendly. I got a mild pad thai with chicken - unfortunately the taste was average. I'd be interested in trying some other dishes but the pad thai was not anything to write home about. Good prices though!

Margaret L.

Yelp
This place is amazing! The best Thai I've ever had. It is consistently good. I order at least once a week. The food is fresh and flavorful. So tasty. My comfort food is the Pad Broccoli. It is so good! The Kow Pad Prik Pow is my second favorite. The spice level is perfect. Every time I get it, I always say OMG this is so so good. But really, you could order anything, and it would be great. It's absolutely delicious.

Yelp
This place I love small place quiet. Strangely pretty much right next to a gas station but the best drunken noodles. The service is always friendly but yes a must stop and try.

Mark M.

Yelp
Fake reviews. Certainly not above 4 stars. Not real authentic Thai food or at least doesn't taste like it. There are plenty of other average Thai food places in the area, so if you don't want to be disappointed you have high chances of ending up there without paying top dollar for below average tasting food. I've traveled all over and this is definitely the worst "so-called Thai food" I've ever tasted. Huge Disappointment.

Mark S.

Yelp
I love Thai food and this place does it the BEST anywhere in the Detroit area and I've tried them all. The only dig I have is when I first started going here it wasn't hot enough when I ordered it extra hot but they fixed that after a few tries and now I can't go a week without ordering it. I love getting new people to try it and have never had anyone say it wasn't good. My favorite dish is the Pad See-Ew but everything I've tried has been very good.

C A.

Yelp
Customer service was great! The food however was not so good. My sister's fried rice was burnt, she sent hers back. My noodles were so sweet that it tasted like candy. I asked for brown sauce to try to mask the flavor, that didn't work. I literally just paid for food that I did not eat. I got up-charged for the sauce. What a waste of money.
google avatar

Leslie A.

Yelp
Sunrise Thai is one of my go-to thai spots when i want a relaxed atmosphere and good curry! I absolutely love their curry dishes, but the noodle dishes are also great. The people who work here are always very friendly and happy to make recommendations.
google avatar

Jeremy N.

Yelp
I ordered takeout, and the food was delicious--everything I had hoped for! It's a low-key spot.
google avatar

Alyssa S.

Yelp
Love this place. They are very generous with the protein portions and it's always delicious. I have tried the chicken satay and fried rice. They were all very good and flavorful.
google avatar

Tess S.

Yelp
Still the best pad Thai in southeast Michigan. I love how many options they have for noodle dishes, while my husband sticks with the pad thai I don't think I've gotten the same thing twice. I love their Tom kha, you can really taste the lemongrass. The location they're at now is nicer than their last, with booth or table seating available and curtains in the windows. Servers are prompt and attentive, pay at the counter after your meal on the way out though. Love sunrise and will keep them in our rotation for sure.

Yelp
A surprise in so many ways! (Mostly good.) It was a Saturday night, and we had a big order delivered for a group (8) of us. Everything was packaged extremely well and labelled, so we had no trouble at all figuring out who ordered what. It was hot. It was delicious. It was hot. Literally the temperature was still very hot and fresh, but also the spice level was very hot. I normally order a mild when I get Thai food (I am a self-identified wimp) but the mild had me sweating. Some friends ordered the medium, and they were struggling. It was as if someone had kicked all our food up two notches above what we all normally ordered. And yet it was delicious and we were hungry. So what to do? Suffer. We suffered. We could easily see why this place has such high reviews, and we plan to order again. The food was fresh and delicious. It didn't feel greasy and just hit the spot. But we're also going to be incredibly concious of the spice level when we do place our orders for the next time. Is there an in-between place of "No Spice" and "Mild"? A question for next time.

Yelp
Charming little Thai restaurant with great service, nice ambience and terrific food. Ate in (carry-out food just never tastes as good!). Spring Rolls were hot, crispy and fresh. The Eggplant with Garlic Sauce was really tasty. Everything was piping hot and you could tell it was made all fresh. Spice level is appropriate. Got the hot and it was nice and spicy. I don't think I would have liked the extra hot nearly as much. Will definately be back!

Abhilash T.

Yelp
We dined in at this wonderful establishment. The food was excellent. We ordered crab Rangoon and spring rolls and they were delicious. The dipping sauces made them even better. We got two drunken noodles, a pad Thai and a pad kee mao. By far the best drunken noodles I ever had. I usually go with pad Thai but I was reading some reviews that talked about how amazing the drunken noodles were lately. They did not disappoint. Everyone thoroughly enjoyed their meals. And it was a very nice and clean restaurant. Not too many tables but enough for one or two large groups. Madison heights seems to be overpopulated with amazing places to eat and this spot is no exception. Definitely make your way here and I would highly recommend the drunken noodles.

Yelp
Quaint restaurant located in strip mall less than a minute from 75 freeway. Seating for large and small parties can be accommodated. Staff was super friendly and quick to serve. I ordered my meal and was served in under 15min. Ordered the Tom Yum soup w/chicken which was very good with hearty large chunks of mushroom, tomato and chicken. Pad See-ew was very good with nice smoky brown sauce which had a nice tang and thickness.
google avatar

Kristina T.

Yelp
THE best Thai in the area. My favorites are the spicy chicken, curry noodles, and the angry catfish. The Pad Thai, of course, is perfect. I eat here all the time and it's never been less than perfect. And the servers are super sweet and nice. Two meals, sprung rolls and an app won't break the bank.
google avatar

Frederick R.

Yelp
One of my favorite Thai restaurants in the area Good flavors, good portions, and quality food What more do you need
google avatar

Lou N.

Yelp
I can't believe we're just discovering this place. Great menu and the food was amazing. A bit too far from us for carry out though.
google avatar

Margie S.

Yelp
Great spot for Thai food in Madison Heights. We ordered dinner and apps carryout and were very happy with all our choices. They give you 8... yes, 8 crab Rangoon. That made our family of four very happy. We also tried the Kong him pa appetizer which was a shrimp with ground chicken, wrapped and deep fried. Very good! We shared the Tom Yum soup, the pad see ew noodles, pad string beans and masaman curry. All were tasty and came with plenty of rice. This is officially my new Thai place.
google avatar

Jean M.

Yelp
Been driving past this place for awhile and had heard great things about it and tonight I treated myself to a carryout! Treated in the sense that I try to watch my carbs, but tonight I didn't care and I had a long work day/week too! Friendly service, looked nice and clean inside and my dishes were good I ordered Pad Thai with chicken and Larb Gai salad (which I never get) Got them both mild + and added some red pepper flakes Think I could've handled a medium spice level here I'm giving them a strong 4, 4.5, if I could They only reason I'm not giving them a 5 is that I've had better or as good as Thai elsewhere That being said, the dish I judge against is gang gai, which I didn't get tonight So the next time I'm here I will get the gang gai for true comparison sake!

Yelp
We used to go here many years ago, but stopped when construction started making it a hassle. We tried it again tonight, and dang - I wish we had never stopped. I drove past ~10 other Thai places to get here but it was worth it. Curry noodles, lard na, and kow pad: all absolutely delicious. Perfect portions - enough for leftovers but not crazy. Service is incredibly fast and the food is definitely freshly made. Prices are fair. And I echo another reviewer who said the spice is applied thoughtfully and bolsters the flavor as opposed to just being hot for the sake of hot. Cute enough inside for dine-in!

Layna L.

Yelp
this is such a cute little place, i have been going to sunrise for about 5 years now and they have NEVER disappointed. God covers our quick, and is delicious. Servers are always quick on everything and super sweet. love love love this place

Yelp
Great food service. Clean. Drunken noodles excellent!!! Great food. Don't sit across the door that is drafty other side is great.

Yelp
Thai food is the cuisine I don't always crave, but I will never reject it if someone asks me to go with it. Even though I don't miss it, you can never go wrong and there's always something good to try. I discovered this place from a friend who claimed this is one of her favorite go-to's. She was a vegetarian, so there you go people, definitely a safe spot for vegetarians. I believe even some of their dishes might be vegan-friendly. The place is casual and down-to-earth, but more importantly clean and comfortable. The staffs are very hospitable and welcoming too, so that's nice. The menu is quite huge so it took me a while to figure out what I wanted to eat. I almost always went for pad Thai, pad kee mao (drunken noodle), or green curry when it comes to Thai food. However, because they have other selections I was intrigued to try their fish dishes. Especially, it's been a while since I have had fish-based Asian cuisine. I went for angry catfish, which is stir-fried catfish and shrimp with mushroom, green beans, bell peppers, onions, carrots, and bamboo shoots in a sweet and spicy sauce. All entrees come with jasmine rice. Generous portion and they are definitely not stingy with their protein, which is always a plus point. I imagine the stir-frying process occurs quickly on a hot wok as it yields a cooked but still crunchy vegetable. The shrimp is cooked well. The catfish is not as crispy despite of being deep fried beforehand as it's drenched in the sauce, but I think it's expected of the dish. It's not soggy though. Albeit good texture and portion, unfortunately, the taste is just okay to me. Nothing special. I can feel some heat but the flavor balance was not really on point. I didn't regret it at all, but I believe it can be improved. Still, the overall experience is not bad. Even though I wasn't too impressed the first time, I honestly will be happy to come back to give it a second shot as I believe.

Yelp
Unassuming high quality food. This is my go to Thai in the area. If you have the pleasure of dining in, the atmosphere is cozy casual.
google avatar

Elizabeth O.

Yelp
I've tried several Thai restaurants in the area and keep coming back to Sunrise Thai. I love that the dishes aren't just spicy for the sake of being spicy, but a wonderful balance of flavor and spice. The food is made quickly and the order is always right. Sunrise Thai is the kind of restaurant that we'll keep getting food from even if we move out of the area!

Kristin L.

Yelp
Good food. Nice level of spice. Hole in the wall but a cute place for a date that love Thai food. Got the Panang curry, which is my favorite. Decent service.

RoxnVin R.

Yelp
So happy to have discovered this gem. Very good Thai food, reasonably priced. The restaurant is cute and clean inside offering a quick and relaxing dinner. We ordered chicken satay, which was very good and then both had pad Thai and it was delicious. Will be back to try some other dishes soon!
google avatar

Drew P.

Yelp
Small portions- even the plates aren't full. Food is yummy about 2 dishes equal almost one dish elsewhere. One of the best made Thai places around. Gets expensive with their tiny plates and ordering 2 meals..
google avatar

Danny O.

Yelp
Went here with my wife over Christmas. Food was so solid, pad Thai was good and crab delights were amazing. Will be coming back whenever I'm in town
google avatar

Aaron R.

Yelp
My wife picked up lunch and we enjoyed! The lunch portion is just enough, well-prepared, and very tasty. We look forward to trying more from their extensive menu!

Phai O.

Yelp
Came here with some friends for an early dinner. The 3 of us ordered curry puff, phu-ket catfish, shrimp pad thai and pad kee Mao (minced chicken with veggies in basil sauce). Everything was great! Curry puff had good amount of filling and not an overwhelming curry flavor, and the cucumbers in the sauce was nice fresh and crunchy. The shrimp pad thai was good and so was the pad kee Mao but the best dish was the catfish!! It was one of the best Thai catfish dishes that I've had in so long that I went back the next day to get it again! If you're wondering which catfish dish to get make sure you get this one because you will not be disappointed!! Will go back and try other dishes but I for sure will order the pad thai and especially the Phu-ket catfish each time I'm there! The owners and staff was very friendly and the place is very cute and small. While we sat and had dinner we were never rushed and there were a ton of carry outs coming in for pick up. I didn't get to take pictures because I figured it would be mediocre like any other Thai restaurant so no need for pictures but I was not expecting the catfish to be so good and I like to put a picture with the dish just in case no one ordered it before and want to see how it looks. I'll be back regularly so I'll upload next time. Very authentic thai dishes and taste. Tiny strip mall next to a gas station. On the corner of John R. and 12 mile.

David S.

Yelp
I only get Drunken Noodles or Spicy Chicken! They are both so good. This place never disappoints!
google avatar

Jeff R.

Yelp
Best Thai anywhere in Metro Detroit! I have tried multiple items on the menu and have never been disappointed. N 11 is my favorite.
google avatar

Holly S.

Yelp
Guys this place has the best Thai food I've ever eaten! We tried: crab Rangoons, shrimp pad Thai, drunken noodles with beef, and curried chicken fried rice! Every single thing we had was delicious! The drunken noodles were the most underwhelming of the bunch but something that my boyfriend said he would order again. I would not but that's not my typical order from Thai places anyway. The crab rangoons were AMAZING! They gave you 8 large ones with a really tasty dipping sauce for only $8! The pad Thai was outstanding! I'm more of a pad seew kinda gal but whenever I try a new place I go with pad Thai to judge them. Theirs was perfectly tangy, spicy, sweet and complex compared to most. I got it with shrimp and they were plentiful and huge! Curry fried rice is one we said we'd both reorder! This place is great, can't wait to order for them again! Their prices and portions were great too. All of that after tax was about $42 which is awesome!

Karen M.

Yelp
Ordered the Pad Thai.. it was awful. An order of noodles swimming in the sauce with no vegetables.

L M.

Yelp
I so wanted to like this place, as I love Thai food and it's close to my work. But this is seriously the worst pad thai I've ever had. I ordered it mild, but lack of spice should not equal lack of flavor! It tasted like noodles and shrimp were boiled in water, with a just a hint of sauce mixed in. The green onions on top were bitter, rounding out the bad taste. Even squeezing all of the juice from the lemon wedge didn't improve the flavor. Too many other good places in the area to give this one a try again.
google avatar

Stacey B.

Yelp
For the past 25 years, I've tried many Thai places but only one was my #1, until I tried Sunrise. Now, my beloved Pi's Thai has a contender. We tried Sunrise on a whim and I'm so glad we did. The service was great and the food was delicious. I will say, the only thing I didn't care for was the spring rolls. In another review, they were described as bland, and they were. To me, they had a lot of cabbage in them, which we all know doesn't have much flavor, and I think that's why they were so blah. I think next time I'm definitely going yo skip on that part. Other than that, the food was perfect! Large portions and just the right amount of heat. We'll definitely be back...really soon!
google avatar

Lisa L.

Yelp
Ordered 3 vegetable curry dishes (1 mild and 2 medium) with tofu and 2 spring rolls. Red curry was watery with no flavor. Like, so watery it was transparent. There was no spice difference between mild and medium, as neither had any spice at all. Vegetables were mostly celery and bamboo shoots. Our spring rolls were also very soggy and I couldn't even eat mine. So disappointed.
google avatar

CJ M.

Yelp
AMAZING Thai spot! One of the best around. Their vegetarian and meat options are great. So much flavor! We got medium and would definitely try a more spicy plate next time.
google avatar

Nadine G.

Yelp
Shredded lettuce in the stir fry. Chopped iceberg was the main ingredient in the fresh rolls. And the fried rice tasted off. My roommate brought it home. I would've warned him if he asked me first. I didn't like it when I first tried it...and somehow, the quality has declined. At least it's not rancid. It's just off. I do not recommend this establishment.
google avatar

Kim T.

Yelp
Just as good as we had heard!! Flavorful and fresh, we both devoured our dishes. I loved the pineapple curry as it was both spicy and sweet! They gave plenty of rice and I brought some of each home. My husband got the drunken noodles which were some of the best I've had in a while--the sauce made it! Small place but there were a handful of booths and tables. I could tell they get a decent amount of take-out as well. Service was friendly and attentive. Very happy to find this wonderful Thai!
google avatar

Lee B.

Yelp
Amazing Thai food! I've been looking for good Thai food in Michigan for years and I finally found it!
google avatar

Tina Y.

Yelp
Best Thai food I've had in a really long time!! So yummy, highly recommend. Their mild is just perfect, not too spicy just right! Won ton soup very flavorful and perfect amount of won ton in cup! I'm in heaven on my lunch break right now
