Stunning Views, Mixed Experience – Worth It for the Sunset, But Not Without Flaws
Sunset Mona Lisa is undeniably one of the most visually stunning dining experiences in Cabo. The view alone—crashing waves, surfers cutting through the water, and a front-row seat to the sun dipping below the horizon—is worth remembering. Our table was right at the edge of the terrace with a completely unobstructed view, and that part was absolutely magical.
The food was solid but didn’t quite live up to the high-end pricing. We chose the three-course fixed menu (around $90 USD, if memory serves). The steak tartare appetizer was excellent, and the dessert was lovely. However, the truffle linguine (or fettuccine) didn’t deliver on the rich truffle flavor I was hoping for. Our group also ordered a side of fries that never arrived—not a huge deal, but for the price and reputation, small misses like that add up.
Service was generally warm and attentive, and we enjoyed the white wine selected for the table. However, we ran into a major issue when one of our group members was accidentally charged in U.S. dollars instead of pesos—resulting in a charge of over $3,000 for a single meal. Despite having five more days in Cabo to resolve it, the restaurant dragged their feet, and it wasn’t settled until we were already back in the States, after getting her bank involved. It was stressful, frustrating, and completely avoidable. Honestly, for that kind of error, they should have comped her entire meal.
In terms of ambiance, it’s definitely designed for romantic, intimate dinners. With our group of five, we were mindful of possibly disturbing the couples around us—tables felt a bit too tightly packed. I’d suggest they consider seating larger, more lively parties in one area, and couples in another, to help preserve the serene vibe for everyone. That said, the restaurant includes a professional photographer to take a complimentary photo of your party, which was a wonderful gift and helped us capture memories without disrupting the atmosphere.
The drinks were beautiful and creative, themed after the Seven Deadly Sins. I didn’t try them this time, but I definitely plan to next time. The bathrooms were also immaculate and tastefully designed—an often overlooked detail that added to the overall sense of elegance.
Overall, I’d give this experience 4 stars for the setting and presentation, but 3.5 stars when factoring in the unresolved billing error and slightly underwhelming food. It’s definitely worth visiting once for the view and ambiance—but I hope the service team tightens up the details to match the beauty of the location.
