Yelp
Heard that DDD was at this spot a couple of weeks back, so I decided to drop in and try it. So note, this was a Saturday at about 1:30 pm.
They offer a minimalist sit down area, but have local art and pottery for sale around the small area. So while the provided seating is white and rather plain , the walls pop with colors from these offerings. This little shop doesn't have a bakery feel. It's like a boutique coffee/tea spot.
They have a small selection of baked goods, some with the middle eastern flavors noted that I love, others are standards found in many shops. My daughter lit up seeing beignets in the case. She ordered those. I bought a small container of saffron pudding, and three different types of small crackle style cookies they had in jars. We didn't get drinks, which is too bad, they have a varied and exotic selection that sound delicious. They offer a tiny menu of food, but no real explanation of what was in the five dishes in the list.
The ladies running this are super nice and their customer service was outstanding. It was nice to have efficient, but friendly assistance.
So the verdict? Well, if you have ever had beignets, skip them here. These are served cold and lack flavor So how about the cookies? I had dragon fruit, lemon, and raspberry. All 3 lacked any real flavor, even the lemon. So now the saffron pudding. Saffron is a clean spice, and when used well it can add a clean, exotic flavor to sweet things. But here there was something missing. Bites with the underlying actual sweet pudding combined with the saffron layer and the pistachio were ok. Still missing the something that would have made this dish really good. So the desserts just are not the star at this shop. At least none to date.
Sadly, I'm not likely to return. Honestly I have had better and more authentic desserts from local middle eastern stores.
