The Best Wine Bars in the Boston Area - Eater Boston

"Is it a grocery store? Is it a snack bar? Yes, and — it’s Super Bien, an impossibly cool “grocerybar” with an incredible selection of South American natural wines. Melissa Stefanini brings her famous empanadas from Buenas in Bow Market to Brighton’s Charles River Speedway (also home to celebrated sake bar the Koji Club). Maia Fleming, former wine director at Rebel Rebel, curates a wine list studded with eco-conscious and forward-thinking producers from Chile, Argentina, and beyond. All this plus bright neon colors and a buoyant neighborhood vibe are a recipe for a good time." - Samantha Maxwell

Super Bien Wine Bar and Grocery Store to Open at the Speedway in Brighton - Eater Boston

"The team behind Buenas, the empanadas-and-more shop at Somerville’s Bow Market, is expanding to another outdoor marketplace this summer, opening a wine bar and grocery shop (a “grocerybar,” says owner Melissa Stefanini) called Super Bien at the forthcoming Speedway in Brighton. It will feature South American wines and dishes made with Buenas’s own products, which are South America-inspired (and go beyond the empanadas for which the shop is best known)." - Rachel Leah Blumenthal

Google
Awesome place to discover fun wines from some fine wine regions! Their snacks are super bien, too! We had a flight of wines because there were too many good ones to decide, some empanadas, and a full glass of the winning wine. Staff was super friendly and helpful. The vibes were vibing. Adding Super Bien to our rotation of hangout spots. Definitely recommended!!

Google
Really cool, unique, and eclectic space! The menu included a great selection of wines and tasty food options like empanadas, specialty hot dogs, and tapas. The staff was so kind, warm, and hospitable. They have complimentary tapas with your wine order on Tuesdays which is amazing! We had an amazing time.

Google
This place is wicked cool! They specialize is South American natural wine (finally a natural wine bar in this part of the neighborhood!) they let me try a few before I chose a glass and they were really patient with me and knowledgeable about the wine!! I also got some empanadas that were tasty, the ham and cheese was my favorite! I even bought a couple bottles of wine to take home with me! Love this place, my new go to! Also loving the Lisa Frank vibes, the atmosphere is dope

Google
I love this wine bar I just found in Brighton tucked away in The Charles River Speedway plaza/open market/beer garden. It's a very relaxed environment with immaculate vibes. The staff are so fun and inviting. I would highly recommend coming here for a relaxed wine tasting night with friends. Flights are 18$ and they come with Topo Chico! The empanadas are amazing but they also have a huge assortment of snacks. The wine list is complete with South American wines that will have wine connoisseurs impressed. Eat at supper

Very nice place to visit in the summer, comfortable seating inside and also outside in the courtyard. Pleasantly vibrant atmosphere near the Notch Brewery, stores and vendors of arts and crafts. Clean public restrooms, free parking nearby. Service was quick and friendly, the vegan emoanada was small but really good. I can't say this place offers good value to fill you up when you're hungry, but still good experience overall 👌

Google
Cute spot with vibrant decor and unique grocery items. They were able to make me a vegan hotdog and the root medley empanada was pretty good too

Google

Google
Stunning build out, welcoming and knowledgeable staff. Get the emps, obviously, but don't sleep on the "snacks" and natural South American wines - go there, drink them! Superbien is another absolute gem by buenas brand.

Yelp
While I have yet to visit, I have tried their vegan empanadas and I'm obsessed. The owner is such a gem. A bright smile and kindness through and through. While I was supposed to pick up the Empanadas on my way home when they first collabed with Impossible, I forgot and the owner brought them to me when she saw me next. I had four empanadas and it was hard to not eat all four in one sitting, but was grateful the next day that past me saved future me the last two. The veggies were cooked perfectly, the dough flavorful, and the flavor superb. Can't wait to visit soon.

Yelp
An empanada shop lining the Speedway biergarten? GREAT IDEA! Don't expect authenticity here. It was a fancy empanada. I went with ham and cheese. Diced up little ham cubes (think Pondersosa buffet.) Too much bread though. My daughter had the Beef. It reminded me of a spicy French meat pie. The beef had a mixture of onion and chimichurri. It was good but not the best ever. A good option for the biergarten.

Yelp
This is such a fun spot. My friends and I met here a few Sundays ago and spent hours sitting, talking, and enjoying the space. The empanadas are incredible! I was smart and ordered a dozen out the gate. You get a little discount if you buy more. I tried a few of every flavor they had. I also ordered the chimi bread. I drank a few glasses of their Maria Rose. Ahh so good. I ended up buying a bottle to bring home and my husband and I drank it all as soon as it was opened. In the warmer months there is outdoor seating in the middle space. The staff are all so friendly and nice. You need to give this place a try if you're in the area.

Yelp
Honestly I'm still pretty creeped out that the business owner decided to publicly bully me for an honest review on their Instagram page. This cyber bullying incident is still one my friends ask me about. I try to leave it in the past but at the end of the day I know this behavior is a reflection of the business owner and not my fault. https://www.instagram.com/p/ChYav8Us2C3/

Yelp
A cozy no-frills wine bar with an excellent selection, friendly staff and tasty empanadas and hot dogs. I really enjoyed it, especially when hopping between Birds of Paradise and Koji Club in the same little plaza. Great way to close out an evening. There's a little grocery here too - where you can buy wine, canned/jarred goods and some prepared foods (flan, dolce de ledge, chicken salad, pasta salad, etc).

Yelp
Great little spot with a nicely curated list of natural wines available by the glass or bottle. Service is super friendly and they also have a few other products available including Graza olive oils, and a few other random drinks and snacks. They also sell bottles to go and have some food available too: empanadas. Service is friendly and attentive and they're a great addition to the Charles River Speedway. They're not particularly cheap but definitely worth an occasional splurge.

Yelp
I wasn't sure what to expect, we stopped in here before a DJ gig at The Sinclair and ended up spending three absolutely lovely hours just snacking on food and trying wines. This place is very much a vibe and the wine selection is unmatched. Great for a lot of fun, a bit of chill, or if you don't really know what you want but you know you want to spend time with cool people and have a drink and a snack.

Yelp
Creative, tasty, handmade with love! Empanadas to die for. Wine and snacks and more to devour. Cute and cozy. And I am personally obsessed with the potato salad! Don't skip this place!

Jillian N.

Yelp
Seriously if you're looking for all natural wine THIS IS YOUR SPOT. And it's all from South America which instantly makes it cooler. They have a by the glass menu and bottles to buy and bring home! The people were work there let me try a few different wines before I committed to a glass and they were really patient and knowledgeable!! They also have empanadas (that are SO good, ham and cheese was my favorite) and hot dogs (which makes me really happy cause it's hard to find a good hot dog in Boston) but yeah I'm just really happy I found an all natural wine bar! Boston is catching on!

Yelp
Well-curated wine list, unbelievable empanadas, and great service. Boston needs more places like this!

Yelp
A very cute stop in the Speedway with a lovely wine selection and great snackage. We stopped in for the natural wine options, and left with a new bottle after some lovely samples with the staff and the knowledge that we'll be back! Knowledgeable staff, cute curated grocery collection, great t-shirts :)

Yelp
Empanadas and natural wines a staple at Speedway in Brighton. Best chicken salad in the city with fresh ingredients all around. To-Go options as well. Staff is excellent, helpful and works quickly. There's a bar, tables and outdoor seating with great music to relax and enjoy in an out of the sun. Must try if in Brighton/Allston area for best Argentinian/Natural/ Organic wines in the Boston area! Lots of pop ups, livemusic and events throughout the warmer months , go try it!

Yelp
Amazing food and amazing wine. We always have an amazing time when we come and have never had a bad thing here! The flan is perfect

Yelp
Ok first off, the Charles River Speedway is a great spot. Cute little businesses (food, drinks and more) and a nice beer garden. I visited Super Bien shortly after they opened and was very excited as I had tried some of their stuff at an EBO event a couple years ago. The staff was super friendly and the empanadas were really good. It was a bit more bare bones inside than I expected and a lot pricier than I expected but it's still worth checking out. I had planned to return soon and recommend this business higher than the three stars I give it here but this evening I saw the owner (or whoever manages the business Instagram account) posted one of the lesser reviews on their Instagram with a very sarcastic comment followed later by a nasty follow up post telling the previous reviewer to get therapy (among other things). Everyone is entitled to their own opinion, that's the point of these review sites. I was really disappointed by this unprofessionalism and sadly I think I may think twice now before supporting them again. A final thought, since apparently this matters, I work in the food industry for a major manufacturer and understand more than most cost structure especially in an unprecedented year of inflation. My disappointment here is not the cost of the food or the atmosphere itself, it's the unprofessionalism of the business. Rather than say "I understand your opinion and I think you may have missed some of the great thing we have to offer" the owner has gone with an attitude of "you're wrong and stupid if you maybe you missed something we have to offer and I would never want someone like you to come to my business anyways". Would love to see a more welcoming and educating attitude of rather than putting down and attacking people. There's plenty of other welcoming places out there- if this sort of thing matters to you, I would skip out on this spot.

Yelp
I loved these empanadas from their time at Bow Market and was very excited to check out their new location at Super Bien. Did not disappoint! Delicious as ever, great vibes from everyone there, and such a pretty setting, with lots of outdoor seating. Looking forward to a return visit when I have time to sit and enjoy a glass or two of wine, as well, because the selection was great.

Yelp
Solid variety of flavors and snacks with rotating specials and pop ups/collabs with other local businesses. The staff are always beyond helpful and friendly. I love that you can pick up hot food ready to eat or take home frozen empanadas to stock your freezer. Really cool little shop with lots to discover!

Hugh W.

Yelp
What a wonderful place! I've been following the Buenas team since the early Bow Market days and their diverse empanadas were truly a lifesaver during the pandemic. Super Bien is all I could have wanted and more - real food made by good people, as well as an excellent and eclectic wine selection. Supporting small businesses like this is what the Charles River Speedway is all about, and yes it's not "cheap eats" but that's not what you come here for anyway. Come here to enjoy the vibe!

Amanda L.

Yelp
Finally after waiting we came in for empanadas today and the owner was super helpful in Helton food us choose a bubbly wine to try. Empanadas so delicious we will be coming back for more!

Yelp
Thrilled for the expansion from Buenas. Excited to have another location to get my empanada fix and discover more delicious treats.

Joy H.

Yelp
I wish I could give a positive review. The service was friendly, but the order took 20 minutes. Then when I came to collect it, it had been given to someone else, so we had to wait another 20 minutes. When we returned to our table, we realized the order was incomplete. Also, the empanadas are delicious, but tiny, so don't come with a big appetite. I was hoping for more!

Ran D.

Yelp
Dope empanadas, natural wine and snacks! I always get the ham and cheese and a Topo Chico every time I'm in!

Vatche A.

Yelp
We're so excited for this new addition to the Speedway! A great selection of handpicked natural wines, and amazing empanadas I'm excited to go back. Having spent the last six years in Portland, Oregon, and Super Bien totally has the vibe of some of the wine bars we miss. We're excited to go back, you can tell that the staff knows what they are doing, and that kind of passion adds so much to your experience. Go, discover special new wines you've never seen at your local packie and grab some delicious snacks!

Delia Z.

Yelp
What an amazing place! Delicious empanadas, wonderful staff and such a great addition to the neighborhood.

Diego A.

Yelp
Woman owned little gem of a place filled with treats made with love, a bomb wine selection and vision! Love the balance of form and function. Will definitely be back!
