How in the Yelposphere, have I not reviewed this not-so-hidden-anymore-gem of a bahn mi style sandwich making power house already or at least since the P-word. Not only have I at one time or another tried every sandwich they make (were 15 when I had completed my own personal challenge year's ago); all clearly listed on a sign behind the counter.
This family run business is super efficient - and that pun was intended. You see, they are a sandwiches throw away from the McGIll University campus, so even though they are located on the "semi-basement" level, they can get quite a crowd - but their experience and efficiency keeps the queue moving. In said queue, you can find students (obviously), locals and those in the know, former students or both like me. Of course anyone is welcome to try and discover this 'find'.
You see, this sandwich shop is a also a depanneur, but the real convenience is being able to grab a fairly priced - about a foot long - sandwich in mere minutes - and they taste good too. I usually go for their egg salad, mock crab salad or sometimes splurge on their Brie with pickled vegetables. They have a full variety, but these days I am focused on eating much less meat, so thus the three choices I pointed out.
Be aware they can run out of certain fillings because of what's ordered more of on which particular day - and they close on time because of the long days they put in.
I don't blame them one bit, kudos to them, especially for doing it all these years. I won't date myself; but all these years can give you a hint it's not one or two.
I hope the brother, sister and Mom (plus staff) keep it up, especially these days as it's hard to find a good value.
Since we all need to eat; you can thank me later. Wink!
Note: I imagine you realize for plus or minus $5 you should not expect a gourmet sandwich, for the quality, value, freshness and speed they are a solid 5 stars. Again do not expect a $10-15 sandwich experience.
