Great drive up! Like sonics but for hot dogs! Hot dog was great. Super fries were hot and crispy! Pickled green tomatoes was surprisingly good!

Google
Meh...I thought this was going to be amazing but it was just okay. Superdawg was not so super. Expensive hot dog and fry. Not natural casing, so no snap. The hot dog tasted good, French fries were unfortunately not crispy (soggy). The peppers were weird, not what I expected on a Chicago dog -- just not good or edible. The tomato was green -- what the heck?! Don't know I would go back to spend $10 for this meal.

Google
The iconic car hop burger joint has a restaurant with seating in the Wheeling location that I is more used than the car hop area. Saying that this is an iconic location and an amazing choice to enjoys some of Chicagos history. The Chicago location on Milwaukee is the original but the Wheeling location is just as good. The hot dawgs are the originals by the wooperxheesie burgers are out of this world. I love for the fries. Something special that they do to them. They are incredible. The green tomatoes are only found at Superdog. If you are in Wheeling then it’s a must and if you’re a tourist then you have to stop in the Chicago location. A must!!!!!

Come to Superdawg for a super-meal! We had a great experience coming to get a bite to eat. The drive in has the authentic experience we were hoping for, and the picnic tables gave us a nice place to eat and soak up some sun.

Google
Honestly, it's been a while since I can really remember what is on a Chicago dog. I believe it's mustard, relish pickle, tomatoes, sport pepper, and celery salt. And no ketchup is ever on a Chicago dog! (I'm not sure about the onions.) If you're looking for that, this is not the place. If you want a simple tasty Chicago dawg and fries, this is it! This place is convenient for you to order from your car and eat the food im your vehicle. For the dog and fries, it will cost you about $10. Their milkshakes are awesome, too. 👌 we have been to both locations. One in the city and the other in the suburbs. Only difference is that one puts the fries on top and the other on the bottom of the hot dog.

Google
The pickled tomato was the best! Every bite was scrumptious! Definitely try the shrimp and Chicago dog with all the fixings! It was absolutely delicious, and the staff was pleasant and helpful! Put this place on your bucket list.

Google
A drive through dinner seemingly from a different time. It looked like something out of fallout! The dogs and’s the cops were good, full of pickles!

Google
Great spot! The cheeseburger is amazing, and so are the fries! It may just be me, but I feel like they're a little weird about ketchup packets. I always ask for extra ketchup packets, and many times I get only a couple packets anyway. Sometimes I get more but I always get the feeling they really don't want to. But other than that, this place is amazing.

Yelp
Not a bad place. It's pretty much what you would get at the Chicago location, but I really liked that. The parking lot is way bigger than the original location and there's an actual spot to eat inside if you want to. they also have the merch selection upfront and on display better than the original, which really helps. The food itself is good and it comes out fast and tastes like the other location does but this place at least doesn't overload your hot dog with seven or eight sport peppers. This place is worth a stop if you're in the area

Yelp
As many times as I've been to Superdawg, I've never tried the Superfish. Super indeed. Two large deep fried fish filets on a grilled brioche bun (or dark rye) nestled among crinkle cut fries, pickle spear and pickled tomato wedge. It was too much of a good thing, unfortunately, and a bit greasy. The fries seemed a bit soaked in grease. I did feel a bit queasy and did not finish. Still, a fun experience to come here and eat. Next time I will order a hot dog.

Yelp
Definite tourist destination! Stop if you are in the area. For us, it was fine. Meant to order a burger, the menu was overwhelming so I ended up with a Whoopsieburger or something, it was a double. It was $11.25, $2 more than the single. My son complains, so no toppings, plain burger ordered here. It was fine, the burger meat was meh, but I will say, the bun was delicious. The fries are also delicious, worth getting. My problem is that there is no other price point if you just want a plain dog or plain burger. It's crazy to pay the same for a hot dog with ketchup as you play for a Chicago style dog. My opinion, but I don't love this pricing. Ultimately, the food was fine, but not stellar. That said, Superdawg is a must stop in the area. The vibe is cool for sure. Go when you have times it will take a hit to get your order.

Yelp
10/10 for the Superdawg. I typically get mine with everything on it minus the hot peppers. It is one of the best quality Superdawgs. The Wheeling location is beautiful, very modern and clean. Service is fast and friendly.

Yelp
I've been going to Superdog since the time of only one location at Devon and milwaukee. It's a Chicago classic, a must visit if you want a Chicago dog and the traditional flavor that our parents ate in the 1950s! The Wheeling location has been open for at least 20 years, I think more. It has a modern vibe, not like the traditional, original location. The food is almost as good, but I think lacks That Special Sauce of old equipment and old places and old machines. I had a super dog with fries, and a chocolate malted. I was very happy, although it just lacked something. I think customer service falls the same way as the food. The Wheeling location is very clean, the crowd is nice, there's tons of parking, and it's still a great experience. However, and this, in my mind, is a big detractor, when I went this past Sunday at dinner time, there was no car service. I pulled into a spot, press the button for car service, and it was told to go through the drive-thru. That was very disappointing. I ended up eating inside.

Amelia M.

Yelp
Hot dogs, fries, pickles, pickled green tomato or maybe it's a tomatillo, (but whatever it is a really like it), with all the trimmings are the main offering but they also have delicious burgers and more. It comes in the same box unique to Superdawg that I remember all my life. It's pretty pricey today (it was 35¢ when I was ten) but worth it for a delicious treat. Check it out if you haven't been there. The original place is on Milwaukee Ave near the Devon and Nagle intersection in Chicago. A second restaurant is on Milwaukee in Wheeling. Superdawg is part of Chicago's famous hot dog history. You should have been there already if you have lived in Chicago or the northern suburbs!

Yelp
Went recently and got their fish sandwich and their supersoda. The food there was delicious if you eat right after you get it. The soda was super overfilled which made it hard to clean up but it was really good. The service was fast even though they were busy. They also have a lot of outdoor seating and you can also eat inside your car.

Yelp
Cool place to visit. I assume they still have carhops in warm weather but I'll have to wait and see. Not the friendliest staff but this is the Chicago burbs, not the south. You could say that they were Chicago friendly I reckon. They have a good variety of menu options, including Superdawg Beer. Prices aren't bad unless you substitute onion chips for fries. I paid $18 for double burger, onions, and large drink. Ouch. My Whooperburger fresh and delicious. Same toppings as a Superdawg, including neon green relish, sport peppers, and a pickle. This is a five star burger. The Superchips were just OK. Not enough onion flavor to me. Sweet tea was really good, even for a southern boy. Thumbs up there.

Yelp
Take a step back to the drive inn days, including someone coming to your car to take your order. You can also go inside for counter service. The menu has superdawgs, burgers and chicken. The lady that took our order was friendly and helpful. We had the superdawg which came with fries and dressed in full Chicago style hot dog. The soft sesame seed warm bun and large all beef hot dog was awesome. This place is a must if you are looking to experience the authentic Chicago hot dog.

Yelp
Been a staple in my family for as long as I can remember and even before I was alive! Always a great time and always great food. You can't beat a superdawg with a chocolate malt!
google avatar

Yelp
If you're a hot dog lover, this place is a must-visit! It's truly one of a kind, with a unique vibe that sets it apart from the usual spots. I tried the classic hot dog, paired it with some crispy fries, and was not disappointed. The flavors were spot on, and the experience itself was worth the trip.
google avatar

Yelp
Nyt best 25 restaurants right now. I love it. Bread so soft and yummy. Stay in your car and order/ they bring out food/ way to pay. We had the superdawg, milk shake and super cheese. Nothing like this back home ( Pdx). It was a classic Chicago dog. Yum
google avatar

Yelp
What a disappointing visit. Sometimes when things constantly harken back to the good old days, they should probably stay there. Such is the case with Superdawg. Got here at open and the floors could have definitely used a mopping. Everything from the architecture to the furnishings to the cups and containers were aesthetically consistent with the 50's, which felt more lazy than creatively retro. Ordered a superdawg and fries with cheese. The hot dog was concerningly sweet and the 15 fries were probably fragments of whatever was left over from yesterday (and very soggy). The cheese was also sweet and very gritty. Not sure what the process was to produce it, but I'd rather not know to be honest. Root beer was fine. The employees were kind and welcoming, the only redeeming quality of the place as far as I can tell. I thought it might be worth a visit based on historical value, but not even that would be reason enough to burn another $15 here.
google avatar

Alyssa T.

Yelp
The food was great and service was prompt. Picnic tables were available to sit outside the car. Clean and spacious. Recommended if you enjoy a traditional hot dog and a sweet shake.

Yelp
You can take the boy out of Chicago but you can never take the craving for a Superdawg out of the boy. But eating here doesn't completely satisfy the crave which makes me realize much of the love came from the atmosphere of the original. Nothing annoys a true Chicagoan more than suburbanites telling people they are "from Chicago." A Superdawg in Wheeling feels just as wrong as ketchup. And yet...if Wheeling does have a real Superdawg, can't they justifiably insist they are from Chicago? Such a conundrum.
google avatar

Mark N.

Yelp
What a throwback- carhops, a tray that rests on your car window kind of an old-fashioned drive-in! Still, a well-regarded Chicago dog was on the menu since my nephew was in town! We drove in, felt the kitschy vibe with the building decor, and we all decided on the (highly overpriced) Superdawg (Chicago-style dog) - loved the service, the fact the tray came with salt, extra napkins, and ketchup (why do we also spell it as "catsup"? I'm confused!). Came in a little box (emphasis on the "little") - we each opened up the little box to find it stuffed with yummy French fries, and buried below was the aforementioned Chicago dog! Ok - the dog was good. The fries were better, unfortunately- but was it worth almost $9? I don't think so - the price is for the building design, I'm sure. In short- it's a great place to bring an out of towner - but now that we're in-towners? We probably won't come back until the next batch of visitors/ well - visits.

Yelp
I stopped in today to grab a gift card. It comes in a cute box shaped like their fry box. That said, I've eaten at superdawg, both this location and the original, many times and it's always a perfect meal! Finding a drive-in style place in this day and age is tough and they do it perfectly here, from the food to the service. I usually get the double burger with everything, onion chips or the fried veggies basket, and a rootbeer. It's a classic combination that you just can't beat. I love the neon green relish they use here, it screams Chicago with every bite. They put it on the burgers as well which gives them a different vibe than other burger places. Of course, everything is delicious here. I've had the hotdogs, chicken nuggets, grilled cheese and a few more items. I'm never disappointed. They've got some good merch as well so with Christmas coming this could be a great spot to grab some gifts for the Chicago hot dog fans in your life. Overall, this spot is a definite winner for a weiner (sorry, I can't stop myself sometimes).

Yelp
First time going to Superdawg, after hearing all the hype about it. It really didn't impress me. Got their Superdawg and fries. Overpriced for the little amount of food you get. The pickled tomatillo kind of threw me off. It wasn't easy to eat on the dog, so you had to take it off and eat it separately. The food tasted decent enough, just not something I'd go out of my way to get again. I'll stick with Portillo's. The restaurant was clean and the service was good/fast.
google avatar

Vivian L.

Yelp
Made my way to this location just for funsies. The staff are very nice and the place is clean. Food is good and made pretty quickly. Honestly, it's what you'd expect from Superdawg.
google avatar

Mary R.

Yelp
Went here today to celebrate my husband's in heaven birthday! He loved both of the locations as do I . We ate inside today because this location has indoor seating . It was cold today The service counter people are nice. You order and pick the food up. If you don't get fries it's 2:50 less. We had the hotdog Chicago style and a chocolate malt . They are truly very thick and delicious . Malts and shakes cost the same. Size regular or large. I forgot to check in and now I live 40 minutes away. Well worth the drive .
google avatar

Debra B.

Yelp
Usually service is fast and complete. Not this time. The person in front of us had a food order and then a short order. He had to size the shirt. We stood patiently waiting to give out order. There were plenty of people waiting wandering behind the counter--some on their phone. The cashier apologized for the delay, but another cashier helped the people behind us right away. Huh? What happened to helping us while we waited? Good as always was good. Burgers, fries, and onion chips. We'll still come back and hope for better service again.

Yelp
Chicago has more hot dog joints than McDonald's franchises, and Superdawg is among the most famous among them. Before I share my thoughts on this Windy City institution, I must disclose that the location I went to is a branch, not the well-known original. Like a lot of the places I try away from home, Superdawg entered my realm of thought by way of Travel Channel. It's been years since I last saw the program of which the venerable stand was featured so when my cousin suggested we hit it up after we returned from Milwaukee on Wednesday, I was all in. Well, the hype was worth it. I had the Superdawg combo, which further solidified my belief that America's third-largest city is home to the galaxy's best tube steak. The dog and fries came neatly organized in a box. Also, I must advise potential diners that while the pickle is an integral part of the traditional Chicago dog, it's on its lonesome here. That, however, doesn't take away from delicious afternoon euphoria I experienced. Whether you drop by here or the flagship location, be sure to take a few snaps of the iconic wiener couple, which represent the husband and wife who established the business more than 70 years ago.
google avatar

Diana J.

Yelp
I have always thought Superdawg was a bit overpriced but food was normally good and a great atmosphere. The service was great, but the food was mediocre at best. The hot dog had all the right toppings but the dog itself had a strong taste that overwhelmed the toppings. The pickled tomato was super hard and tasted like straight vinegar. The fries had apparently been cooked in oil where fish was also cooked. They were fishy and pretty much inedible due to the overwhelming fish flavor. I do not think I will be returning.
google avatar

Simply R.

Yelp
So I went here and order the Superdawg and the supercheesie burger. Both came with fries which were not that great. Very greasy and seemed like they were cooked earlier and dropped again to warm them up. The dawg was definitely a I won't get that again. The burger was a lot better but not the best burger I've ever had. Oh and the pineapple shake was good as well. I've never had green tomatoes but it tasted like pickles. Still trying to figure that out.
google avatar

Sha P.

Yelp
Such a classic vibe with amazing dawgs! Try the onion chips too - delicious! The car hop was nice and we loved the entire experience.
google avatar

Benjamin J.

Yelp
The whoopercheesie is probably the greatest name for a burger in the world. The name just rolls off the tongue, so that alone should let you know this place doesn't mess around when it comes to burgers, hot dogs, shakes and all the fried goodies. It's my GF's and i late night eat spot to random lunch on a weekday vibe. The entire establishment is cute as it serves either drive thru or drive up windows like it's a 60s roller skating diner (no one will roller skate your food to you though- just walk) But I've never had a bad food experience here and the staff is always so generous. Prices reasonably and always delicious!
google avatar

Christine L.

Yelp
A classic drive in perfect of you're looking for a hot dog or burger with a shake. You can walk in and order to go or park in one of the stalls, order from there and dine in your car. Or if you're really on the go there's also a drive through. All the entrees come with fries so no need to order fries on the side. Everything comes packed in a little box perfect for carside eating. Prices are very reasonable and service is fairly fast. Food is delicious, I've never had a bad meal here. Highly recommend the Whoopskidawg, a polish with grilled onions, ugh drooling just thinking about it. And the crinkle cut fries are also just the perfect side. For a fun and cheap outing that will transport you back to the 50s this place is absolutely the best.
google avatar

Meia S.

Yelp
I don't think that SuperDawg even need's reviews because it speaks for itself when you go! A Chicago staple that my family and I love going to! It's very nostalgic and retro! Love the food esp the green tomatoes!! The shakes are the best as well! It is a little on the pricey side but very worth it and the food is made to order! Great in all types of weather since you can eat in your car, go inside or sit on the outside tables! If you haven't been here... ummm what are you waiting for??
google avatar

David O.

Yelp
Came here mainly for the nostalgia..& cuz I was a bit hungry. Ok kids, this was Sonic before Sonic was! Their high prices & food quality will keep me away for good now. The "Superdawg" is no longer..but a wee old bitty regular :( Stopped by cuz I was in the area but both locations are nowhere near me. Was giving them the benefit of the doubt to try them again but needless to say, they confirmed with disappointment. So long Mr. & Mrs. Superdawg...Portillo's still better!
google avatar

Lisa K.

Yelp
Fun drive-in experience and hotdogs are solid. Fries were a little soggy but it might have just been that one night. Vibes are immaculate with the neon signage though.

James S.

Yelp
Superdawg Drive-In is a fantastic place with great old-style vibes! The food is tasty. The nostalgic drive-in feel makes it a unique and enjoyable experience. Highly recommended!
google avatar

Christina R.

Yelp
Love this place. Seen it on triple D or man vs food or you gotta eat here? I don't remember but when my husband and I knew we were going to Chicago we knew we had to stop here! Get a dog, take some pictures and check out the merchandise. If we ever get back to Chicago we are definitely coming back.
google avatar

Celeste B.

Yelp
I've heard great things about SuperDawg but I've never been. Thankfully, I had a friend help me through my first drive-in experience. I felt a little intimidated since you pull into a spot and you see a drive-thru menu all for you! Once you're ready to order, you just press the button and they will bring it out to your car. I ordered the SuperDawg and it came with all the toppings and fries. It was nice that they brought it out and the tray attaches to your car window. The tray had everything that you could ever need like napkins, salt/pepper and a bottle of ketchup. The hotdog was delicious and the fries complemented it well. Apparently, you're supposed to order the shake so you can dip your fries in it but next time! Once you're done with your meal, you press the button and someone will come out and pick up the tray. If you're not in the mood to eat in the car, they also have dine-in available.

Yelp
Ergh! What happened, Superdawg? Came by w family for dinner (5pmish) on 5/28/2023. We ate inside. Cleanliness = D All tables had crumbs. We cleaned off a table so we can sit there. Napkins, some straw, food crumbs were in the floor. I wanted to leave but family was hard core on hotdogs that day. Food = D Hotdogs were good. Grilled cheese sandwich was good. Vegetables (coated and fried) were ok. The biggest disappointment were the burnt fries. See photo. I wanted to return it, but saw that the line was too long so just ate the less burnt ones. Blech! Staff = B Not rude. Not friendly either. Adequate. However, I saw them hustling and working really hard in the kitchen given there were lots of parked cars ordering + line by the cashier for dine-in. We may come back again but maybe on a non-busy time. I hope we get better food next time and a cleaner dine-in experience.

emm v.

Yelp
Been going to the original on Milwaukee for over 40 years. It's always been WAY more expensive than the Vienna places now over the top. This location has the s l o w e s t service I've ever experienced. Unacceptable & I'm done expecting improvement. Chicago spot still hustles.

Jaclyn M.

Yelp
So the food was so good I forgot to take a picture. This place was fantastic. I got the super dog (which by the way comes with fries) and my guy got the super cheesies(which comes with fries) plus we got a drink. It was only 23. I say this because with prices these days this was awesome. The dog was so freaking good and you could tell there were no fillers. I got it with everything but the peppers. The burger was incredible also. Honestly go and try this place. You will not be disappointed. Oh the fries were perfect too!

Pamela M.

Yelp
We drove from Wisconsin always wanted to go to Superdawg it was not only worth the drive the food was amazing we loved the atmosphere the staff was great the manager was working hard behind the counter and super friendly thank you Superdawg for a amazing day !!!
google avatar

Rich L.

Yelp
Best hot dog in Chicago, love the bright green relish, and definitely no ketchup. Fries are very tasty. I keep wanting to try other items on their menu but just can't pass up the Superdawg
google avatar

Missie B.

Yelp
When I'm craving a whoopsie cheeseburger and fries, this is the place to come. Yummmmm
google avatar

Scott V.

Yelp
LOVE this place! Yes, it's not the Chicago original on Milwaukee Avenue (nothing beats that for nostalgia), but it awesome in its own right. Their hot dogs are the best you'll find anywhere in the Midwest, but they also have an absolutely delicious burger (I highly recommend the Whoopercheesie)...truly one of my favorite burgers. Their fish sandwich is great, too. Every sandwich is served with a generous portion of delicious crinkle-cut fries, a dill pickle spear, and Superdawg's unique and tasty pickled tomato wedge. If you have a sweet tooth, their milk shakes are thick and creamy...and the chocolate malt...YUM!! And their ice cream sundaes, especially with hot fudge, hit the spot. It's all seriously good eating. If you'd like an adult beverage, they serve their own beer, too. And what I especially love about Superdawg's Wheeling location is the big parking lot and the picnic tables. Great food, fair prices and quick service in a nostalgic setting...Superdawg is a swell place to eat! Do not miss it!!

Yelp
Such good place to go. Me and the wife went there when we first moved here. And we've gotten them ever since. Great burgers and hot dogs I've had in a while. Plus, the shakes are really good, too.
google avatar

Yelp
This place is fine, the food was fine, the service was fine, we sat outside and enjoyed the weather while we ate. Nothing to complain about, nothing stood out. Everything was fine.

Nate L.

Yelp
Being from the South Side of Chicago, I didn't grow up with Superdawg in my universe, but that changed when I met my wife. Superdawg by Devon was her go to place when she was growing up, so I've been introduced to these delicious offerings ever since. This is their 2nd location, 11 miles north of their original, which has been there since 1948 (and in my opinion, slightly tastier, but much smaller parking). Of course, you have to try the Superdawg, which is garnished in the classic Chicago style, with French fries and their signature green tomato wedge. My wife's favorite is the Supercheesey, a Cheeseburger cooked to order with your choice of buns and grilled or raw onions. I'm not a huge Burger fan, but the Supercheesey is an excellent sandwich! This landmark establishment is open during the pandemic and being a drive in, contact is minimal. You can drive thru, or pull into a spot, order from your car and they bring it out.

John G.

Yelp
The food of my generation. Quite frankly and quite simply put I grew up on super dog. Those of you that give it one star because the weight staff is moving too slow. Don't realize that it takes time to make a hamburger. They don't just pull it out of a warming drawer throw it on a bun and into a bag. They put a lot of time and effort and love into what they do. If you have patience and a pallet, you will love Superdog.

Taylor D.

Yelp
I must say the service here is amazing. The gentleman that took our order gave us went above and beyond his duty. Brite the server at superdawg is amazing!
google avatar

Patricia G.

Yelp
I ordered 2 superdawgs, 2 whoopsiedawgs, 2 pops. Took 20 minutes. Even worse, cost $49. Never again.
google avatar

Han J.

Yelp
What can beat the classic comfort of a cheeseburger and chocolate malt? Very few things... I had great fun visiting this location of Superdawg. I did not grow up in the area, so this was my first time hearing of and eating at a Superdawg! I always love a drive-in, though. My group chose a picnic table and ordered right there. I got a Supercheesie and Chocolate Supermalt. My meal wasn't life changing, but it definitely hit the spot! The service was pretty speedy considering there were many groups around on a summer afternoon. Luckily, we had no trouble finding parking!
google avatar

Stacey W.

Yelp
Its easy to drive up and order food without even leaving your car. It was one of the first warm days so I decided to grab a shake here. I drove up pressed the button and ordered my strawberry shake. Then the waitress brought it out, I didn't even have to leave my car! The shake was good and was made with fresh strawberries.

Yelp
Was so good. Saw a revenue on the big three Super Dawg Portillos Gene and Judes Can't say I never tried Gene Judes The first two have always been excellent. Super Dawg was excellent home made beef wieners Green tomatoes Sort peppers Bright green relish Tomato Onion Fresh hotdog buns Had onion chips Black cow Great experience
