The Best Coffee Shops in Portland

"Also known as In Joy, this café on the Southwest Park Blocks downtown is frequented by the students of Portland State University and other locals for its meticulous approach to the science of coffee brewing. Super Joy has a sibling at the roasting-cafe facility on nearby Southwest Yamhill; both serve drinks with beans mostly sourced from Asia and latte ingredients like osthmanthus, soy sauce, and taro." - Eater Staff

Magnificent espresso-based coffees; hands down the best in more than 20 Portland cafes I’ve tried. If you like specialty coffee, this is for you. Owner also roasts small-batch beans on site. Baristas are all outstanding. (Note: only few food options and limited seating).

Schzuan Peppercorn Mocha: Very Mexican hot chocolate inspired; quite delicious. Espresso: Solid, rich, smooth and sweet with a hint of acidity.

The cafe was conveniently located from my hotel and the barista was friendly enough, however the maple oat latte did not impress. I could barely taste the espresso. It wasn't overpowered by the maple, because that was also very subtle in taste. I was really hoping to be blown away by Portland's coffee and so far, nothing yet ... maybe I just haven't found the cafe for me. I ended up picking up another espresso just shortly after finding another cafe close by.

First time visiting Portland and heard that this was a place to visit for coffee. I’m not an avid coffee drinker but I do enjoy a good cup of coffee once in a while. This place had some great lattes that I highly enjoyed. I also had their vegan breakfast sandwich only because I don’t eat pork. Delicious. When I go visit again I will come to this spot first thing!

Delighted to discover this hidden gem of a street corner shop! The exceptional coffee, cozy ambiance, and friendly staff surpassed all expectations. The diverse selection of drinks and bakery treats caters to various tastes, and the prices are very reasonable. Though the broken windows signal a call for a safer city, the location's natural light makes it an awesome spot to hang out with friends. A perfect five-star experience despite the minor hiccup!

The coffee here is phenomenal! My husband and I went here for our 4 day stay every day.. we ended up buying some beans from the owner and wow, this is nothing I've ever had before! Highly recommend stopping in here.. they're quick, friendly, chill, and can trust the quality. Definitely check this place out, you won't be disappointed. Also.. my husband got the pumpkin one and have to say that this is a legit pumpkin spice taste.. very balanced, elegant, and wholesome.

I’m really glad I went here today. SuperJoy roast and serve their own coffee. The place had a nice vibe and aesthetic, a coffee lab vibe with the roasting equipment on display makes a nice feel. I had a Latte and a taster of the drip The drip was a blend mainly Guatemalan beans with some China beans. Sweet and mellow with a Fruity finish and different levels of flavors. Very interesting to drink. I think on the lighter side. Might be the best drip I have ever had. Im very glad the barista asked me if I wanted a try…I normally avoid drips in coffee shops, The espresso was; i’m sure technically great. But it wasn’t my thing. The flavour was very nutty, overly nutty for me. Maybe walnuts maybe malt (?) if that’s a thing. It was sweet strong taste. I think the sweetness may have been assisted by the milk. It seems like the roast of the beans are always changing, since its small batch, so your experience may vary. The barista was very nice and you can buy bags of beans. I love places that are into their coffee, art, skill, craft and this place certainly is. Im sure someone who knows coffee could dork deep in here. Ill be back! great to find spots like this. So glad I walked the extra blocks away from Casestudy brown water.
