i used to go here almost every day bc it's affordable coffee at decent quality. recently they're hired a few people who don't seem to know much about the business or the basics of coffee.
my sister ordered a dirty matcha and the barista didn't know what it was. she respectfully explained the drink and he laughed at her, claiminf jt was a nasty drink no one would want.
another person chimed in, seemingly on damage control, to say that they "don't do that," even after expressing understanding of its components (matcha, milk, espresso.) we were going to pay their extra charge for the espresso on the side and they still refused. this was strange to me, as i've ordered a dirty matcha here and countless other places with no trouble.
barista behind the bar was incredibly standoffish about making the drink despite having all the ingredients, and refused to hear any explanation about how all he needed to do was pour a shot on top of a drink he knew how to make.
anyway, we ultimately ordered two kced lattes at their recommendation and quickly left out of discomfort. neither of us drink lattes, but it was a little exhausting going back and forth and we both hate confrontation.
i've ordered a long shot from this same barista and he didn't know what i was talking about. instead of asking, he quickly snapped "we don't do that here." i left with a mediocre iced latte (again).
haven't been back much since. i used to love to sit inside. plants r very nice, even if the crowd is a little stiff. i'd still recommend if you don't mind occasionally being on the receiving end of a barista's anxious defensiveness.
i get that it's a tough job, and i will never downplay that as a fellow service worker. but emotional control is a hallmark in the job and i'm afraid their new hires don't all have that.
