Are These London Restaurants Worth The Hype?

"The Verdict: A great burger, but we can’t get on board with the queues or limited seating.  Specialising in the kind of crispy-edged smashburgers that resemble a granny's doily, Supernova is a tiny burger spot in Soho. The space is minimalist and straightforward, just like the three-item menu with hamburgers, fries, and sundaes. The burgers are well-seasoned, the fries are crispy, and the sundaes are pleasant enough. But we can't justify the (sometimes 50-minute) wait times. Plus, seating is limited to a few counter spots, where you’ll likely be jostled by the constant flow of people." - sinead cranna, rianne shlebak, jake missing, heidi lauth beasley

The Best Smashburgers In London

"Usually we don't like to think about our granny's linen while eating, but this smashpatty was as lacy as one of her doilies. The edges of Supernova's burgers are perfectly thin and extra crispy. The tangy, creamy burger sauce and gooey slice of American cheese are a must for keeping things moist. But we can't justify the—sometimes 50-minute—wait for food at this tiny, hyped burger spot in Soho. Plus, only the lucky few get one of the precious counter spots. But even then, the incessant flow of people inside means it's barely preferable to walking around the streets with your food." - rianne shlebak, sinead cranna

London’s New Restaurant Openings - London - The Infatuation

"Turns out the phrase “if you build it, they will come” is about smashburgers. Supernova is a takeaway spot in Soho with stripped-back, almost spaceship-like interiors. The minimalist design echoes the straightforward menu—classic cheeseburger (with or without house sauce), fries, and sundaes. We recently checked out Supernova. Read our first thoughts here." - Team Infatuation

Supernova - Review - Soho - London - The Infatuation

"Specialising in the kind of crispy-edged smashburgers that resemble a granny's doily, Supernova is a tiny burger spot in Soho. Staff wearing merch-ready t-shirts work with precision to flip patties and serve the constant stream of customers eager to get their hands on a coveted takeaway bag. The space is minimalist, stripped-back, and straightforward, just like the three-item menu with hamburgers, fries, and sundaes. The burgers are tasty, with a tangy sauce; the fries are crispy and well-seasoned; and the sundaes are pleasant enough. But we can't justify the (sometimes 50-minute) wait times. Plus, the seating is limited to just a few precious counter spots. You’d be lucky to get one and even if they are free, the incessant flow of people inside means it's barely preferable to walking around Soho with your food. It’s a great burger, but we’d only return if we didn’t have to queue for it. photo credit: Koray Firat photo credit: Koray Firat photo credit: Koray Firat Pause Unmute" - Sinéad Cranna

I recently visited this place and honestly it was worth every minute of the wait. There was a queue for at least 20 minutes but once we got seated everything was top notch. The house burger and fries were absolutely delicious, juicy, perfectly seasoned and full of flavour. You can tell they use great ingredients and really care about what they serve. The half and half iced tea and lemonade option was also brilliant. So refreshing, perfectly balanced and such a nice touch to go with the meal. The place has a lively atmosphere and the staff were friendly and upbeat which made the experience even better. Even with the queue the food and service made it more than worth it. I will definitely be back again and will be recommending it to everyone I know.

The burger was tasty and well-cooked, but I expected a bit more considering the price and the hype. The flavour was good, just not as special as I hoped. Fries were fine, nothing really unique about them. It’s worth trying once if you’re in the area, but keep your expectations reasonable.

I’ve passed here many times and have seen long queues so thought I’d try it out on my way home from the gym. The service is monosyllabic and unfriendly at best. I ordered the classic for £10. It arrived fairly quickly however, do not assume speed equals tasty. The burger was bland and lacked seasoning. If I closed my eyes there would be very little to distinguish it between the cheapo McDonald’s cheese burger. I expected more given I just paid £10. The atmosphere if you can call it that is noisy. I was sat my the bar by the till which was littered by used boxes filled with food. The cashier cleared the four boxes from four other diners but me, well I guess I’m invisible so he left mine around me. This was particularly strange as he had taken my order. Then I realised unless you look young and cool they will take your money but after that you’re ignored. My advice go to Junk Smash burgers on Old Compton St instead for both tasty burgers and good service.

Supernova was packed, and I get why! The burgers were insanely good. Naila, Dipesh, Prem, and Kulbir made sure everything came out perfect even with the crowd. I loved their energy even though they were so busy! I tried the signature Supernova Burger, and it was easily one of the best I’ve had. The bun was soft yet held together beautifully, and the fries were golden, crispy perfection. Everything tasted freshly made and full of care. Whether you’re a burger lover or just looking for a great place to eat, Supernova is a must-visit.

I honestly don't get the hype. We arrived around 7:30pm which I understand is a peak time but given the small space, it just felt chaotic with people crammed inside, waiting around and fighting for a seat. We ordered the house cheeseburger and it was overly salty, had poor cheese balance and slimy buns. The fries were even worse and probably the worst I've had - McDonald's does them better.

I saw that places on the Tuna Tavus' YouTube channel. Meat and cook level was good. However, I was waiting for better bread and chips. Service is so fast, people are gentle and kind. You don't need scare of front of the line :) Line is melting very fastly.

The burgers and fries weren’t anything extraordinary, you can definitely find better options elsewhere. The place was simple and quiet, with a design that didn’t feel overwhelming. There wasn’t much of a line, and I got served quickly. If you just want to grab a bite and be done in 10 minutes, it’s a place you can stop by.

Supernova is my favorite burger spot in London. Thin, crispy-edged smash patties with clean seasoning sit in a soft potato bun, and everything comes out hot and fast. The menu is intentionally tight with a Classic or House cheeseburger, fries and a sundae, and most seating is standing counter so you should expect a queue at peak times. Only downside for me: no mayo burger option. Taste and execution beat every other place I’ve tried here.
