Where to Eat, Drink, and Snack in West Philly: A Local’s Guide - Eater Philly

"Supremo is one of the first places [where] I found some Argentinean goods. They have a very good selection of Puerto Rican specialties, Mexican groceries, they have some Uruguayan products. You can buy dulce de leche, membrillo, yerba mate. If we need something quickly for the restaurant, we usually run to that supermarket." - Maddy Sweitzer-Lamme

While I was shopping, my car was towed by Angelina's Towing Company on Friday, June 6. Bad customer service Supremo Food, both businesses (Supremo & Angelina's) need to shut down. I parked my car at 6.53 pm. and checked out at 7.41 pm. Surprise, my car was not where I parked. I am not gonna share details like how they treat you, just make sure you do not experience it, not recommended.

This place is trashy. I will never shop her again. Heath department needs to come and inspect the meat area and storage. I shopped there last week. My father did not like the meat they have (which is all sprayed with colors to make it look fresh). We bought lots of things from there and walked across the street to buy meat. We came back and saw that my car was towed up. We spoke to the manager, and he said that "we left the car unattended on a private property." I showed him the receipt that we shopped in this store 20 minutes ago, but he insisted that we left the car on a private property. I asked the manager about his name, and he said my name is "MANAGER." What a coward. He did not even provide his name, very indecent people to deal with, including the tow truck man. I was charged with $200 fine just because I walked to buy another item from cross the street for 20 minutes. It seems like these shops have some animosity going on among them. And they choose to take it on their customers. Community in this area should never allow this business to continue. Wake up, people.

Google
This is the worst supermarket parking in Philadelphia please Muslim brothers and sister who wants to go to the Masjid Al Jamia. Please do not park in this parking lot. They will tow your car in 15 to 20 minutes they will charge 250$. I request to our brother and sister be aware of this scam thanks all

I went to this grocery store to grab a few things and needed to use the ATM as well. There was a sign on their ATM saying it was out of order, so I stepped outside to find another one. Within three minutes, someone in the parking lot — clearly watching people — called a tow truck, and my car was towed. I ended up paying $226 just for trying to get some cash to buy a few beans. This place feels like a setup. It’s a scammy operation and a total trap for customers. I’m shocked a store would treat people this way. Don’t ever go to this store. What a shame.

Google
A majority of the products are covered in dust. Be wary of expired products. Check your receipt because you might get taxed on food! And they won’t refund you because it’s past their 24-hour return window. Parking is a scam and you’ll get towed by the manager that sits by the cameras all day. Despite the cultural variety, this place puts the customer last.

Google
Supremo is the most disappointing supermarket in this area. Government agencies have shut it down quite often due to poor food quality, and only unfamiliar or new customers tend to shop there. With their business struggling, they have resorted to charging for parking and allegedly towing cars illegally—even for those who make purchases from their store. It's truly unacceptable.

Today, I had an extremely frustrating experience with Supermo Market's parking policy. I parked in their lot to quickly grab some items from another nearby store and then return to Supermo to do my shopping. But before I even had the chance, I was shocked to find my car about to be towed. The parking attendants assumed I had left my car there without planning to shop at Supermo, even though I intended to do so. They informed me that I had to pay a $170 fine in cash for parking "illegally" on private property, which seemed excessive for just stepping away briefly. When I explained my intention to shop there, they demanded I pay the fine first, only allowing me to dispute it afterward. This felt like a very unfair approach, especially considering I had every intention of shopping at their store. After a long and stressful ordeal, involving even contacting the police to get my car released, I was finally able to enter the store. It turns out, they have cameras that monitor who parks and leaves the premises, and any slight mistake or quick stop outside their store could result in your car being towed. After finally completing my shopping, I spoke with the manager about the situation, hoping they might reconsider the policy. Unfortunately, he was very firm, stating that the rules are strict and will not be changed. In the end, they issued me $26 parking violation ticket, which I can dispute by attaching my receipt on the parking violation website.

Beans had mouse urine and feces on them and meat I bought spoiled the next day. Do not do not *Do Not* shop here. The convenience is not worth risking your health.

Yelp
I went in with a friend bought cases of water and grapes. Came out put everything in the car. Ran across the street to get some takeout food and when I came back they had my car on the tow truck. Tired to charge me 175.00 to release my car. Talked him down. Now I could see if I didn't go in their store to shop and parked there for hours and was somewhere else. Also their store is not clean. Expired food items . Mice. They have tow trucks just sitting in the parking lot in the back where it's dark and tow. There are reviews on google about people getting their cars towed even after going shopping in their store. If you go across the street to get food after shopping there . They will tow your car so do not go there

Yelp
Great store. Lot of international foods and health food options. Produce is good and staff is helpful too.
google avatar

Mohammad R.

Yelp
This place is very home-y. Love the prices, the way the produce and products are organized properly. The food selection is always fresh with safe for multicultural options as well. I am not sure what these other reviews are saying about service of the employees because I was always greeted with smiles and people always were willing to help. I will come back to shop at supremo for all my grocery needs :)
google avatar

Josh K.

Yelp
To say that supremo is not particularly customer-focused is an understatement. As I write this they have 1 cashier working 2 nights before thanksgiving, and there's a very long line. In past visits there may or may not be someone behind the deli counter. Who knows? Sometimes your cashier's conveyor belt works. Sometimes not. And so on. That said, they do stock some useful international items, so basically I shop here only when I really need to find something in particular.
google avatar

Dahiana G.

Yelp
They always have a little of everything specially Hispanics food. They always have fair prices and sales.

Marisa W.

Yelp
Violated the Americans with Disabilities Act and told a long time customer they didn't care about the law. Maybe they will care about their reputation. Looks like their entrance is not accessible either.

Cindy A.

Yelp
I'm in a mobility scooter. With all the bars outside, there is no way for me to enter. Is this intended? Will that ever change?

Nnamdi N.

Yelp
if I could give this place negative stars I would. Mice everywhere, expired products, and ignorant staff.

Yelp
Supremes is the most trash grocery store, I'm sorry to say. I've been coming here on and off fr the last 13 years and even more so now that 40th walnut Fresh grocer is closed. The good - I have noticed they've increased the amount of vegan/ veg friendly products near the produce section. The continuous bad - it doesn't matter what time of day you come. But expect to wait in line for an average of 30 -45 minutes. Today there was ONE person ahead of me and I started waiting in line at 258pm. I am still waiting and it's 315pm When the line is long around 5/6pm rush hour - the line wraps around down the freezer section and around the meat aisle If you have a choice - dont g

Yelp
Buying fruit from here and it is absolutely inedible. The pictures are if two different Mangos from a case I bought

Matthew M.

Yelp
Supremo is a fine supermarket- but why do they always only have two cashiers working? Just cheapness I guess. Same reason you have to push your groceries on the belt and the credit card machine takes two minutes for each transaction. Sigh. It wouldn't take much to improve things.

Ingrid K.

Yelp
I love this place. It has everything I need, whenever I need it. Prices are great, people are nice. Extreme variety of products that you can't find elsewhere for such good prices.
google avatar

Sudo N.

Yelp
Added May 2021: Last week I was in there and they had *five* kinds of mangoes, including a big green kind from Haiti that I had not seen before. They were delicious! Supremo is not new and shiny. it has been here a long time and its age shows. But some of the reviews say it is dirty, and it is not.

Tom C.

Yelp
I would never buy anything refrigerated from here. I've seen gray meat on shelves, expired bacon, gross stuff. The layout of the store is awful, most of the aisles are accompanied by an incomplete or wrong sign. Dry goods are also iffy, seen a mouse once. The people are really nice that work there, lots of patience, they're probably the best part of the store. Walked over yesterday and behold, shut down by the health department. Hopefully they get their act together soon.

Stacias S.

Yelp
I've had a few negative experiences at this store. The newest renovations and what seemed to be new management and staff blinded me momentarily...but after reading their most recent failed health report I will no longer be eating here. I've experienced buying expired vegan refrigerated meat, I saw moldy packaged fruit cups on the shelf, the smell outside is rancid and overwhelming. Supremo can literally be smelled for blocks! The latest report says there are rodents, roaches, and unsafe conditions for food prep and storage.
google avatar

Jade C.

Yelp
If I could give this trash heap zero stars I would. The lines here and the utilization of cashiers is ridiculous and management should be doing better to move people to other lines and not waiting 15mins to check out It consistently smells like rotting flesh and milk in the store...I will only buy dry goods here because I do not trust their fresh good. PLEASE check your expiration dates I've bought dry goods that are months expired!!!! THE COMMUNITY SHOULD WANT MORE FROM THEIR GROCERY STORE!!!!! This place should be shut down ... just because most costumers are low income does not mean they should be okay buying their groceries in a TRASH BIN!!!!!

LL G.

Yelp
Yeah, the health department closures and the incorrect aisle signs and prices that do not correlate to the products above them and the greens at the end of the produce aisle that are sometimes waterlogged and a little yucky.... If you look past those things, and I do, where else can you get dried beans from all over the world, a full selection of Bob's Red Mill and King Arthur products, 12 different kinds of vegan cheese, 5 different brands of dulce de leche, Guittard milk chocolate baking chips, Lotus brand ramen, and almost every tuber in existence? The bok choy and napa cabbage and lettuces aren't always in great shape, but sometimes they are and the rest of the produce is solid. There is always some produce that is absolutely top notch. The staff is very sweet, as others have noted. LOVE Supremo. It is an essential stop on my trade route.
google avatar

Gloria E.

Yelp
Not a great place for veggies or meat, but frozen food is alright. Check expiration date for anything you buy. Staff are quiet and not that efficient, so avoid busy days because lines will take 20+ minutes to get through. Hoping they read these reviews and understand they have room for improvement.

Julia E.

Yelp
I'm just tired of the fact that you cannot get fresh food or even edible food anywhere in Philly. Everything is rotten. No one was even doing the deli, so I couldn't get anything there. It's not worth it. Most things spoil quickly. Don't get any onions or anything from here either because most of them are rotten and even the ones that aren't rotten get mold from the surrounding ones. Nobody should be forced to eat food like this can we please just get one decent grocery store in West Philly.

Hannah M.

Yelp
So many things aren't priced or are priced incorrectly here. It makes shopping here so frustrating, especially when their products are overpriced to begin with.

Adriana R.

Yelp
I have been going here for years. I never bought food unless it was in a container or buying cat food. I abruptly stopped going for two main reasons. 1. Most of the bread, chips, hard cat food are chewed through by mice. I found myself constantly checking the bag for mouse chewings. 2. Mice run through the aisles freely! They are even on the shelves it is freakin unreal. How does this place stay open?

Sarah M.

Yelp
It's really annoying that so many of the products throughout the store are not priced. And most of the products are overpriced. So if you grab an unmarked item be prepared for sticker shock at the register. It does have some items that are hard to find elsewhere, but it is definitely not the place to go for a real weekly shop.
google avatar

Oliver C.

Yelp
The first thing you see when you walk in are 1980s-esque security cameras. The "security" asks you not to bring any bags in and you have to leave them at the front. The produce is OK. Sometimes good, sometimes bad. Most of the items are general junk food. The thing this place does right is some foreign items but there are better places. Overall, the supermarket is pretty depressing. Empty shelves, incorrect prices, slow service, rude security and owners. It smells like a dirty, burnt hotel room. If only Trader Joe's replaced it...

Lisa A.

Yelp
The service is absolutely, ridiculously negligible. Today is the 2/1/2022. This morning I went in supremo. I bought 3 piece of white yams, ripe bananas, and thyme. Upon returning to my vehicle, I checked my receipt. I saw ice cream, and other items I did not buy. I then looked at the date of the receipt. It stated 1/26/2022. I returned and requested my receipt. The cashier at the other register tried to help but was futile. She called the cashier that cashed my items, she could not produce my receipt so she called the individual that was supposed to be the "manager." This "manager" told me there was no way to produce my receipt, and he was not going to help me. When an individual enter an entity to Buy a product, the individual did not go in begging; therefore there is no need for the customer to be informed that they should be nice to get help. Because I asked for my receipt respectfully and did not receive what I asked for, instead I was told to join the line "Again"; which I did. I was also called ignorant because I would not leave the store without my receipt. Since my receipt could not be produced, I requested a refund which the "manager" refused. Your receipt is your proof of purchase and should be issued at the time of purchase. That manager was degrading and disrespectful.

Yelp
This supermarket is horrifyingly unclean. I live nearby and consistently avoid walking near this store because of the rancid smell coming from their dumpsters, especially in the summer. The inside doesn't smell much better, particularly anywhere near the meat or produce sections. I've only ever bought prepackaged foods from here and have still gone home with expired products. I mostly bothered to post a review because it's literally unsafe to eat from there. Their most recent health report showed rodent feces, dead bugs, unhygienic facilities, and a host of other violations ( https://pa.healthinspections.us/_templates/551/RetailFood/_report_full.cfm?inspectionID=E7A10680-5056-A20F-9EFC412ABD9C4569&domainID=551&userID=0&fbclid=IwAR3356WWMCaKwqDaHA-eYRcafGE3BZP_CiSVook2C0c6ke-gpslKt6RVlH4 ). It's super sad that they are allowed to continue to operate in this neighborhood. West Philly deserves better.

R A.

Yelp
Absolutely filthy and disgusting. It's mind blowing how ill maintained this market is. A simple renovation would improve hygiene and attract shoppers. They have a surprisingly decent selection of international food but that definitely does not make up for the horrible condition of the place.

Heather H.

Yelp
Supremo's is actually a pretty decent store, if you can get past the rather dirty look of it on the outside. It's nice they have a parking lot (rare in the city) but I wish it was better lit at night, because I don't feel safe on this part of Walnut. There are security guards once you get inside, but don't let that deter you, their job is to keep you safe, and this is West Philly afterall. We always start our shopping at Aldi, and whatever we cannot find there, we get here. Just keep in mind the lines can be VERY long a peak times, like Sundays, but that's true of any store in a large city. I was rather dismayed they were shut down by the health department, as I'm a local, and it was convenient. We often cook international type foods, (such as Latino, Middle Eastern, Indian, Caribbean, and even select items from the UK) and it's hard to find them all in one place. I don't normally buy any perishables here, but if I did, I would check the dates. (But you should do that anyway) I'm not surprised the health department found mice either, but then, mice are a problem everywhere in the city. I'm glad they've cleaned up the place, and look forward to shopping here again. Just keep in mind, the staff will be pleasant with you, if you are pleasant with them. I've never had an issue personally, in fact, they have always been very nice to me. Just don't expect a Whole Foods type yuppy designer atmosphere. It's a bare bones grocery store with added unique items. Expect only that, and you'll be totally satisfied.

Hannah K.

Yelp
If I could give zero stars, I would. I live right around the corner, and was hopeful that this grocery store would be a convenient place to shop - I was so wrong. First, the store and the area around it is filthy and unkempt even for West Philly standards. There is trash strewn everywhere, rotting food left outside, overflowing and smelly dumpsters. A large parking lot that is also strewn with trash and unsafe. The inside is not much better. The shelves are often empty or near empty. There is a very limited selection. A friend of mine, who was born and lived in Russia, told me the store reminded her of the stores in communist Russia in the 80s. The prices are not any cheaper than Fresh Grocer, Trader Joes, Giant, or any other local stores. In fact, a few times they are more expensive. If you happen to be able to find what you are looking for, the check-out lines are long and slow. The systems are outdated and often they will stop accepting credit cards randomly. I appreciate that they accept EBT, however, that does not mean they can continue to take advantage of their grocery monopoly by continuing an unsightly, unhygienic, community eyesore that overcharges its customers for sub par products and service.

Yelp
You'll need these tips to ensure a three star experience. 1: Always check all expiration dates. 2: Avoid all meat packaged at Supreme. 3: Plan to buy toiletries and seafood elsewhere. 4: Deli hours do not match store hours 5: Monday is the best day to purchase bakery rolls. Sunday is the worst day. 6: Be prepared to move items down the conveyer belt manually. 7: Don't expect to find any non dairy milk. 8: Be patient in the checkout line. 9: Expect to check your bag at the door. 10: The produce is pretty good.
google avatar

Kayla H.

Yelp
Living near this grocery store is pretty cool. The prices are generally pretty cheap, and the aisles are well stocked lots of variety of items. I love smoking then just going to the deli and staring at all of the cheeses until I get 3 different kinds to bring home and basically inhale once getting back home. Produce seems fresh, meat is cheap (although I've seen some meats that have looked bad), and there's at least 20 different kinds of peanut butter and probably even more varieties of queso on the shelves. Just make sure that your items are being rang up correctly once you get through the suuuper slowwww linessss!
google avatar

Samantka M.

Yelp
dirty dirty dirty leaking meats rotten produce if you need products from south america it is the place to go but do not buy the meats or produce it will rot on you in a day

Yelp
I am sick and tired of going to this market 20-30 minutes BEFORE the scheduled closing time and being greeted by LOCKSD doors! the posted hours say 7am-10pm not 9:40pm I'm a retail manager myself and if my night crew took it upon themselves to close early they'd be fired! What's the use of having a neighborhood store if u can't rely on the hours of operation?!? This is specifically for the 43rd and walnut Philadelphia location
google avatar

Lenny Z.

Yelp
Shop and Bag is a decent size market with no bells and whistles. The staff is all very friendly. As a regular, I've gotten to know some of them and they treat me nicer than just any old schmo who might stumble in. They mostly have what I need. However, sometimes I cannot find items that most other markets would carry. Just this past week I was not able to get premade pizza crust. On the other side, they have some ethnic products from Mexico, Caribbean, Indian, and Middle Eastern that are harder to find elsewhere. The main reason I keep coming back is because it's a 2 block walk and their prices are much better than almost anywhere else in the area. To put it briefly, it does the trick.
google avatar

Bill M.

Yelp
Once again Yelp helps me out big time! I was getting a little tired of hopping the green line just to do groceries at Trader Joe's and haul them all the way back to West Philly. I also altogether gave up on Fresh Grocer as an alternative within micro seconds. but I thought there wasn't any other way, that is until I scoped out Jessica's and Sara's reviews. Supreme isn't the best, far from it's title in fact. But it does offer a little bit of something for everybody. a good pile of veggie options, cheap housewares, and all kinds of cooking and cleaning products - everything you'd expect and then some. The meat department had the usual things you'd expect - but it also had goat meat, beef tripe, and liver which I found to be fairly disturbing (the better to make scrapple with?). and in the end they had some pretty damn good buys and some pretty helpful people working there. I'll probably still end up going elsewhere a lot (The Mariposa Food Co-Op is next!). but It's nice to know that there's a good enough grocery store like this close by.
google avatar

Just A P.

Yelp
people on here are crazy. most reasonable grocer in the area. its a small bisiness not a trader joes so its not perfect. if some produce doesnt look great dont buy it. if you dont want to wait in line dont come when its busy. its really perfectly fine. really
google avatar

Oumou B.

Yelp
Awful!!! I should have went on the DHHS Food and Ag Report before going here. They constantly fail health inspections!! I have no idea why this store is still allowed to remain open. They sell rotten/molded/expired food for god sakes! I'm disgusted! I will never shop there again. The food is bad, the store is trashy and smelly, and the customer service is awful. Not to mention the fact that you have to abandon your car, hop in your cart and drive it up to the side of the store because they have these gates that prevent carts from leaving the store premises.
google avatar

Diana X.

Yelp
Cheap, but you have to be selective with what you buy here. They have carried some cool produce that I haven't been able to find anywhere else within walking distance. I'm careful to check the expiration dates on packaged goods though, after reading all the reviews. It is indeed true that nearly all (or all) the conveyor belts are broken, but these things don't bother me when so many of the products are so much cheaper than Fresh Grocer.
google avatar

Christa C.

Yelp
Hours are marked open till 10pm but they lock the doors at 9:30 and then shout disrespectfully at you about it. I will never go back.
google avatar

Ev A.

Yelp
I go here cause it's close, but I don't get meat or anything else that requires refridgeration. Frozen section is fine. During the summer, they kept their front (supposed to be automated) door open. They probably wasted so much money on keeping the store cold, not that it has that "I trust the food here" grocery store feel otherwise. Produce is overpriced. Milk that was past the sell-by date was on the shelf. Checkout clerks are friendly. It seemed like they hired more people in the last year, which is good. Avoid at 6pm, though. Still long lines.
google avatar

Marissa R.

Yelp
Supreme is a-ok. It gets the job done better than Fresh Grocer... but you'll have to shop the specials at either grocery store to get the best deals. Supreme has a large produce selection, the basic deli and bakery departments, and all of your standard generic and name-brand shelf items. The size of the store and selection of items in general is the best you'll find in West Philly / University City. I've found customer service here to be less than par, and the security guards standing every few feet throughout the "customer service" area is a little intimidating. I'll visit every now and then... but it's no Trader Joe's!
google avatar

Alex B.

Yelp
Prices are rather cheap but you need to use produce within 2-3 days. I usually only shop here if it's last resort and I don't feel like going to Aldi or Trader Joe's.
google avatar

Scott J.

Yelp
3.50-4.99 for ground beef that has antibiotics and is non organic is absurd. You should be able source 4.99 ground beef that is local and/or organic. Beyond that, I really don't understand why you aren't taken your business more seriously. You have a mixed income demographic and high density of shoppers in the area with relatively little competition. Please start offering a more diverse product line to meet the desires of the diverse clientele in the area.
google avatar

J. Christopher E.

Yelp
Only go here if I need something quick and have no other choice. Aside from ants in the condensed milk I recently purchased, another crappy thing about this place is that the bars at the entrance that keep people from stealing shopping carts also make it very difficult (if not impossible) to bring in baby strollers. Please don't renew the lease when it's up.
google avatar

leah m.

Yelp
dirty, not organized produce not fresh......lines be really long wit only like 2 registers open, not the best place to come i really dont like coming here, the aldi on market is great in my opinion
google avatar

Yelp
I actually miss shopping here when I lived in west philly. I love the large variety of ethnic food and produce selection was always great. Parking lot was always really hectic though.

Yelp
I really want to love Shop n Bag. I've really wanted to love this grocery store for the 4+ years I've lived in the neighborhood. They are a large, fairly-priced establishment that caters to the varying socioeconomic levels in the neighborhood (and surrounding neighborhoods). They carry a pretty impressive array of international foods, too. They are a much-needed establishment and I try to support it as often as possible. All of that being said. I am giving it two stars because 9 out of 10 times that I've gone there, at least one item I've gone into the store to purchase is expired or rotting. I have actually walked up to the conveyer belt on a few occasions only to notice an item I'm buying has visible mold. I once carried 7+ unopened containers of hummus up to the check out because they were all expired (and had sell by dates that six weeks prior to the day I came in). Tonight I informed the manager on staff that over half of his turkey sausage stock was expired....by ten days. I've worked in grocery stores in my time and I'm generally very understanding of various situations, but someone had to notice. There has to be someone in charge of checking stock. Please Shop n Bag, let me like you. Let me feel comfortable buying something other than seltzer water and the occasional lemon and lime. I really really want to make you my supermarket.
google avatar

Yelp
If you are skeeved out by vegetables that are not individually shrink-wrapped, don't come here. Aldi and the Fresh Grocer will happily charge you a few bucks a pound for the illusion of hygiene. If you want soft mood lighting cascading through the aisles, or blackboard signs hand-chalked advertising the gourmet olive bar, go over to Whole Foods and buy your ambiance for a surcharge $15 per shopping trip there. If you want cashiers who will smile indulgently when your young professional self gets to the front of the line and suddenly realizes you've forgotten your Siggi's and needs to "run" back to retrieve it before you check out, let those patient souls at Trader Joe's serve you. This is a grocery store for pragmatic, no-nonsense human beings. The shabby atmosphere notwithstanding, you can actually purchase many of your higher end/bourgie products like tofu, organic milk, and the like here. Specialty spices and grains like quinoa are approximately 100x cheaper than Mariposa Co-Op. Produce selection is great, especially on Mondays and Tuesdays. People are too easily scared off of their meat selection-- the "choice" meats are standard mainstream grocery fare/prices (don't fool yourself, it's all Perdue/Sysco, man, if you're not getting organic/local), and you can get great deals on cuts like oxtail and beef knuckle, or on stock-ingredients like chicken feet. The cashiers are not eager suburban high schoolers, and the service here is blissfully free of forced chit-chat and sycophancy. Treat the cashiers with real and unpatronizing politeness, as they are adults who were not placed on this earth specifically to ring up your tomatillos, and they will respond in kind with genuine friendliness. I do wish they would fix that one belt that's been broken for at least a year. And the non-deli cheese selection sucks. But whatever. Long live the Supreme.

Yelp
Oh man, the Supreme. Let me start off by saying there is no contest really between this grocery store and any other in the area as that Fresh Grocer is just ridiculous in its set up and way too small for servicing the University, not to mention all of us living off of its multiplier effects. All other groceries are internationally oriented and really great, but when it comes to one stop shopping for all your usual needs, Supreme sort of has a monopoly on normal shopping. But to call it "normal" is an understatement. Specifically the meat section which resembles the Mudder museum. I don't want to be offensive to anyone's eating habits but this is the first place where I saw the intricacies of cow tongue up close--where I could feel it's texture through a thin layer of plastic wrap. Dems HUGE. After picking out everything you need (I love that they have Mineral Agua there!) you are so psyched you got all of your needs in a one stop shop scenario and you head to the check out--here's where the games really begin. Typically all of the check out belts are out of order. Not only does this make the wait particularly long, but then you start talking to your friend while you wait for the guy in front of you to shuttle all of his foodstuffs down the belt until you here someone shouting at you. Oh, yes, it is your turn now. you ridiculous talker. How could you forget to start moving your groceries down the belt? Anyway, the checker will always get over your grocery moving ineptitude and chat you up and before you know it, you have everything you need, and another experience at Supreme is over. Just stay positive because really, where else are you going to go?

Yelp
The pleasantness of places in West Philly is directly proportional to the number of UPenn students who frequent it. Does that sentence make sense? At any rate, I much prefer Supreme over the clogged, confusing, and way overpriced Fresh Grocer. They don't always have what I want and sometimes the cashiers aren't the nicest, and you might have to deal with a bum or two at the entrance...but that's just Philadelphia. I miss Publix.
