How the Suquamish Tribe Harvests Clams in Washington State | Eater

"This tribal seafood operation harvests and sells clams and oysters using knowledge passed down through generations and hands-on beach harvesting techniques. Leadership such as general manager Tony Forsman emphasizes that clams are an enduring food source tied to tribal identity, while staff like acquisition coordinator Shellene George note the role of shellfish in both commerce and community life. The business and its harvesters can distinguish varieties such as steamers, littlenecks, and manilas, and their shellfish often support cultural events like traditional beach clam bakes." - Avery Dalal

Google
Awesome place and so glad we found it! We bought small oysters here and they were extremely fresh and delicious. And not actually that small... just smaller than the large ones... and similar to ones you would buy shucked fresh at a restaurant, at a fraction of the price. (You just have to shuck them yourself.) The store staff packed them up well with ice for us. We don't come this way often, but now when we do, we will always stop here! The dungeness crabs were extremely lively in the tank, and the fish fillets looked amazing and well-priced. Next time we will get some.

Fresh seafood with good variety. More expensive than grocery stores. Friendly and accommodating staff.

Don't let looks fool you - this is the place to get your seafood. Sure, you might think, because of it's location, that it's just a gas station office - wrong. Super fresh seafood, at really fantastic prices. A few days after getting a haul to feed six hungry eaters a fantastic multi-food dinner, saw the same items (not looking near as good/fresh) at Pikes Place Market (ok, hardly a fair comparison that place is so touristy) for just about double the price.

This is the retail address: 16261 Washington 305, Poulsbo.it is in the Shell Gas station. The clam and oyster were great. They also have live dungeness crab and fish fillets.

Google
They choose not to put their fish on ice and it creates a slightly slimy fish. I feel like there’s a reason many places opt for ice. I’d totally shop here more often if the fish were on ice.

Google
Great prices and they can have some great seafood… and sometimes the quality is not that great. You have to be willing to gamble a bit. It’s always worth supporting locals though.

Great selection of fresh local seafood. We love coming here when we are craving for crab and always leave with salmon or cod, whatever their fresh catch happens to be. As other reviews said, the staff is friendly and helpful. The place is clean and now conveniently located next to the gas station. Highly recommend.

Google
Wish i can show pics. 1st time buyer. Bought dozen of small oysters. Yep shell is small. Range from 2 to 3 inches. 2 pounds Manila clams. Majority is no bigger than half dollar. 4 are size of a quarter. Didn't know the size of oysters and clams until got home.

Yelp
Freshest fish at a great price. A wide range of options and really nice counter person helped me make my choice. Actually really looking forward to coming back to try their fresh clams and oysters, held in cold flow through saltwater tanks as well as Dungeness crab. My black mouth King salmon filet will have to do for this time, though the Ling cod beckons! Guess I get to eat my way through their offerings. Really nice place and easy to find. Small and unassuming, in a gas station parking lot but don't let that fool you. It's worth a stop!!

Yelp
Bought live crab on May 4th. I requested 2 pound crabs. They weighed the crab inside of the buckets so the weight included the buckets and charged me for the 2+ pound weight per crab. One crab would not even feed my 10 yr old daughter. I would guess each weighed in the one pound range. Sad. Would like a good market specializing in seafood. Rip Off!

Yelp
This place is fantastic for local seafood. I'm surprised by the cost rating as it seems far more reasonable price wise than other places in Kitsap county. During the summer they have had whole salmon for as low as $10/lb for fresh caught local salmon. The folks working there are helpful and courteous. I also like that it's a tribal business. I noticed there was a comment saying they couldn't figure out what they had in stock. This is just incorrect, they post weekly on instagram with what they have in stock. Also if there's something that's really limited you can call the shop, I suspect the person that posted the negative review was calling the larger business not the shop. The folks in the shop have answered the few times I've called to check.

Yelp
super friendly staff, like others said, it's a business of tribal community. Very clean store. Got two dozen of large oyster, medium portion of king salmon, 2lbs of clams for $49. Everything super fresh. Can't beat the price! Also, they DO take credit card.

Yelp
Great local, tribal community, place to buy seafood. Awesome prices! Very happy in that George S., here on Yelp, told me about this place. The fresh catch was very fresh, caught between midnight and 4:00 a.m. today. I bought 2 pounds of fresh King salmon that they filleted in front of me, 3 pounds of manilla clams, and a piece of smoked salmon. I wanted cooked Dungeness crab but they were out. They had live crabs though. Super nice and helpful people, both the employees and the customers waiting in line.

Yelp
Stopped in today, the service was good, but the deals were great. Everything was well priced, but the best deal was the oysters, a dozen XL oysters for $12, hard to beat.

Yelp
This is fantastic shop with a variety of fresh seafood. I stopped by today and they had fresh cod ( ling and black) , salmon, scallops, fresh crab, oysters (4 kinds) I got extra small pacifics, clams.. the list in endless and the prices are reasonable . A lb of clams $4. And lb of shrimp $20. The oysters were $10 for a dozen and the cod was $15 per lb. with Covid, one person is allowed (aloud) in at a time and service was efficient and fast. And it's at the gas station so plenty of parking and get a fill up at one of the cheapest places near the island. This is a hidden gem and I wouldn't bother with seafood anyplace else.

Yelp
This tribal seafood market is a somewhat hidden local treasure. Pay attention: they are only open two days a week, Friday and Saturday from 9:00 to 5:00. They are on the water, down a windy road from the Masai convenience store on hi-way 305. They rarely answer their phone in a timely fashion because when they are working, they are working! They do a pretty good job of updating their Facebook page with seasonal specials and general stock on hand. They get fresh fish daily, early in the morning. So, their fish is as fresh as it gets. They also feature shell fish from tribal shell fish farms as well as flash frozen products from their commercial operations and, occasionally, other tribal fisheries around the state. The prices are exceptional and their customer service is warm and friendly and especially helpful. Here's a recent example of their typical offerings: Fresh: King Salmon, Sockeye salmon, Halibut, Black Cod and Geoduck Live: Manila clams, XL Agate Pearl oyster and Small Chico Bay oysters. Our live Dungeness Crab will only be available on Saturday. Frozen: Smoked Salmon, King Salmon, Sockeye Salmon, Spot prawns, Halibut and fully cooked/ flash frozen Dungeness crab. Special offer for my Yelp Elite friends: schedule ahead of time with me and I'll show you how to prepare geoduck for you and two of your friends! More than happy to work together on other menu items as well. This place is awesome. But, you can't really appreciate it unless you have way to take full advantage of the freshness.

Yelp
2 dozen live pacific oysters, a dozen clams, and smoked salmon for $30. I really wanted Dungeness, but because I wouldn't be home for 7 hours, so it didn't seem like a good idea for out of water live crab. It was $10/lb and most of the crabs seemed 2lbs and higher. Perfect sized and beautiful crab in the holding tank, though not ready to spend that much tonight. They can pack it live. Maybe I'll do that next time. The only thing is that I wish they could do same day cook and clean for me to bring home! I'll definitely be back. Eric was really helpful. answered all my questions, friendly and knowledgeable. I will definitely go back!

Yelp
Great selection and customer service. Clean store and friendly - attentive staff. Clams were fresh and tasted delicious.

Yelp
We are consistently very impressed with Suquamish Seafoods. While the selection isn't as far-reaching as say your local grocery, we always find a few seasonal goodies to bring home, at a great price.

Yelp
Fantastic service by knowledgeable and friendly staff. They are quick to help with what they have per what you want. Their frozen (and fresh) crab are big and meaty. The price is very reasonable, and they often run specials. Check their FB page for what they have and any specials. This is the only place we buy fish from in Kitsap.

Yelp
I've called them five weeks in a row to get information on the "fresh" seafood they have available. No one EVER answers the phone (the retail nor the manager's ext). Their website is useless and the Facebook page is never updated as well. There's no way I'll drive all the way over there with no prior information. I've already been disappointed way too many times with the lack of quality seafood throughout the peninsula. I'd rather drive to the Asian markets in Tacoma for cheap and fresh seafood.

Michael B.

Yelp
Serious oysters here. Amazing. Can't wait to try more of their offering. I'd post pictures but I ate them too quickly.

Yelp
Stopped here on my way to a weekend in Kitsap and I was blown away! I got a beautiful fresh, local King Salmon for $10/pound and half a dozen delicious oysters for $5. Can't beat the price and they're very friendly as well. Wish I lived closer.
