We took our first pasta-making class last weekend. It was a great learning experience and a lot of fun. The staff was very helpful and patient. Will be definitely coming back for other classes. It would’ve been nicer if we could do everything as a couple - sharing a table with, and depending on other teams to complete certain parts of the dish is not always fun. Our pasta ended up tasting delicious. Cant wait to try making it at home.

Google
parisian pastry class - 4/10 mediocre. mise en place set up, instructor assistant helping clean up empty bowls. as a group (4 groups of 4), we 1) began with making kouign-amann (made 9), cronuts (made 6), croissants (made 4). tasks were rolling pre-made dough, forming pastries, egg wash. 2) then learnt lamination. tasks were to whip butter in kitchenaid to create beurrage. learned how pre-made dough was formed, put ingredients in kitchenaid, brief hand kneading, rolled out dough to learn letter folding unfortunate: 1) instructor burnt our cronuts while she walked around to put powdered sugar on other groups' (she did say right before don't walk away from anything frying) and she definitely pretended to not hear when our group said they were burnt. to her defense, frying is hard but the assistant or any of us could have done the sugar 2) our flour for the dough had a tiny fly in it. the instructor pinched it out but before replacing the flour, said "was there really a fly in there" when we did indeed see her pinch and rub it off on her hand 3) pricey for the very (very!) minimal hands-on time good: knowledgeable instructor, informative, had a 15 min break in the middle, offered small discounts on store items and future cooking classes. pastries baked during break and we snacked, got to take home 1 croissant each + whatever was left of the cronuts and kouign amann divided amongst the 4 of you. post-class email includes recipe background, terms, graphics, and steps. feedback: 1) instructor should have their own set up instead of going around to groups demoing a step saying "can i use your group to show everyone". this takes away from the group individuals being able to do that step themselves (since it's a group activity and everything is set up for you, hands on time is already quite minimal). plus, the group could take the instructor leftovers as a control group and compare their own 2) if chef meribeth could have acknowledged the burnt food instead of trying to cover it up with powdered sugar and serving it to us. such a waste. i was very much looking forward to this but i was let down.

Google
I gave my mom the “Petite Sweet Treats” cooking class for Mother’s Day. What an enjoyable day. Chef Meribeth was amazing and shared so much knowledge with us. My mom has catered for over 50 years and she said she learned some things today she never knew. Thank you, Meribeth and Sur la Table for such an amazing experience!!

Google
First time going to a Sur La Table cooking class and we will DEFINITELY be back! We did the pasta three ways. I have never liked a carbonara before but this was absolutely outstanding. The class was lively and fun with lots of real life cooking tips (not just for pasta and these dishes). Chef Dom was absolutely a GEM, and everything was extrordinarildy delicious.

Google
Cooking class — Food was good but instructor didn’t seem to like her job very much and went way too fast. You definitely needed to have experience cooking (knowing how to chop, mince, etc) to keep up with her speed. I’d say I am an experienced cook and still needed her to repeat instructions. For our Thai curry recipe in particular there was twice as much sauce as there was rice so there wasn’t that much food, and I was very annoyed to find out at $100 per person we couldn’t even take leftovers. There were a LOT of leftovers

My husband and I have taken multiple classes here at Sur La Table and I just want to shout out Mary Beth for being absolutely INCREDIBLE. She has been our chef / instructor for classes twice and she is out of this world. She is knowledgeable, direct, funny, clear with instructions, and obviously very passionate. The food was incredible and I credit that to her wonderful instructions and guidance. She went out of her way to walk around and engage with participants and make sure we were enjoying ourselves and that the food was perfect. We will specifically look for classes that she teaches from now on. We could not be more impressed and we 10/10 recommend taking a cooking class at Sur La Table with Mary Beth.

Google
Cooking classes are fun, informative and delicious! We've been to a few classes, and the experience is great. We love meeting new people and learning to cook a gourmet meal. And eat it of course. Our most recent class with chef Katelyn, was the best. She's awesome. Smart, funny, positive and engaging. Highly recommended.

Google
We had such a fun time taking the "3 Desserts Every Cook Should Know" class! Chef Meribeth was so knowledgeable and we learned a lot of good techniques and tricks. We absolutely plan on going back, and would recommend to anyone looking for a fun date night/activity in the area!

Yelp
I scheduled a class here on on May 27th for June 8th. I had to reschedule that class but was unable to do so via the web so I emailed. It took 24 hours to receive a reply that it would be changed to June 22nd. On June 16th I emailed again to cancel as my plans changed again. I was busy and didn't pay attention that I didn't receive a reply. Sure enough, on the morning of the 22nd, the store called about the class and us not being in it. They suggested reaching out to customer service, which I then did. They apologized but said since they can't find any record of me requesting the cancellation and that cancellations can't be accepted via email, there was nothing they would do. No refund, no rescheduling. So rather than reply to me saying we can't cancel via email, they ignored me and waited for the date of the class to arrive hoping I won't pursue it further and then be outside of their cancellation policy. The store when I called them and explained this and that I wouldn't be able to shop or take additional classes there as a result of this, the assistant store manager said one singular word "okay" and hung up. I thought I found a rival to Williams Sonoma complete with classes but I was wrong.

Yelp
My nephew bought me and my husband, the campfire desserts baking class here. We had so much fun and learned a lot from the chef. It is behind a store that has cooking and baking supplies. Staff is very friendly, attentive and accommodating. The baking class was very organized and we had plenty of time to make the desserts and enjoy them at the end of class.

Yelp
This how I received the set of dishes that I ordered. It was supposed to be a gift for someone. By the time I would send it back and get a new one the my gift timeframe would be past. How is this acceptable. They shipped it like this. It did not happen in transit. Shameful.

Kim R.

Yelp
Let me start with the one positive: the in-store staff was very friendly. Unfortunately, the rest of the experience was a letdown from start to finish. Right away, things started off poorly. Another guest at our table asked for a wine glass and was completely ignored. After asking again, she was met with attitude and told, "They're right there--you can get them." Not exactly the level of service we expected. The class itself felt more like a sales pitch than an actual learning experience. We didn't eat the food we made--instead, we were served what the previous class had cooked. As for the cooking, it was minimal at best. For example, we didn't actually learn how to prepare the chicken entrée. It was already marinated when we arrived, and all we did was brown it. Not exactly hands-on or instructional. I asked to take my dessert home and was told that wasn't allowed. For a class that costs $100 per person, I expected a lot more flexibility and value. You'd think we could at least bring home what we helped make. We were also told the recipes would be emailed to us--never received them. I even called the next day to follow up. Still nothing. Overall, it felt like a complete waste of time and money. The class wasn't fun, entertaining, or educational. There are so many other things to do in Raleigh--I would absolutely not recommend this cooking class to anyone. The store itself is great, but skip the classes.

Yelp
Fantastic class ! I've been reading about pasta and working with the Kitchenaide pasta attachment but nothing beats a class with a good teacher. Took my 1st Sur la Table cooking class yesterday. We made homemade pasta, 2 sauces and sorbet. Chef YaYa was our chef and SO GOOD. Clear instructions. Easy to follow. Just because you know how to cook doesn't mean you know how to teach. She knows how to teach. I appreciated being able to ask questions. It tasted great yesterday in class but. what is even better- I was able to make it at home today and it was great here too. I made Totellini with pancetta sauce. Thank you, Sur la Table and Chef YaYa.

Yelp
The employees at Sur La Table are so nice and knowledgeable. I'm always greeted when I walk in and do take them up on the espresso while I shop.

Yelp
Sur La Table is like...the motherland for people who love food and cooking. I had never been to the location near me when I lived in FL and I could kind of kick myself now. I scheduled a cooking class for my Birthday, and it was a blast! They have MANY classes to choose from. For the date and time frame that worked for us, the theme was a Chinese Lunar New Year Feast. This is a meal that may be made as a Family and enjoyed on the day of Lunar New Year, as we Americans would make pork and sauerkraut or black eyed peas and greens. We made soup dumplings, which are supposed to have 18 pleats for luck. Our instructor said that the most we students would get was about ten, and I made it to 14! Next, we made stir fried long Life noodles with vegetables, and long Line green beans with chile and garlic. We also enjoyed some homemade ginger ice cream! We were teamed with a wonderful woman and her adult grandson and enjoyed some conversation while we cooked and learned. After the class we walked around and I oooh'd and ahhhh'd over all the fabulous items in the store. I decided that I wanted to purchase a wok. The store employees both in the classroom and in the store are all very friendly and helpful. The displays are out of this World. There are beautiful dish sets, there's every pot and pan you could imagine, all the utensils and bakeware, also all types of machinery for cooking as well. There was an ice cream maker and a countertop pizza oven that caught Husbands eye! I also loved looking at the ingredients that are here and all the cookbooks and aprons. It really is mecca for folks like me!

Yelp
My wife gifted me a cooking class that featured a Greek theme, and I loved it. We got lucky that a couple no-showed, so we were able to be more hands on a try a little more of the foods we made (we shared most of the extras with the instructor and her assistant). Everyone seemed to be having a lot of fun and the instructor was entertaining and engaging. I really enjoyed what we made for the most part (not a fan of halloumi cheese I found out), but the from scratch tzatziki and chicken souvlaki were winners and something I have added to my personal recipe library. The dessert was a baklava crumble vanilla ice cream, which was also tasty. It was priced at $89 pp but it's a special occasion type thing, and I thought it was well worth it.

Yelp
Went on a Sunday to view an item I was contemplating for purchase. The size I wanted was in the back . It was a busy, pre-Christmas day. The associate was very nice, found my requested item . He gave great advice ( it would weigh 40 pounds once full of food-- which surprised me ). Overall , nice and helpful, experience.

Yelp
We came for a date night but were super annoyed that we had to cook in a group. It was also awkward for the third wheel person in a group who came with 4 others but was forced to work with us. We made tacos. They were ok and served cold. The instructions were often unclear/left out and we were starving because the class wasn't over until 9:30pm. I wouldn't take a cooking class here ever again. Not worth the price.

Yelp
My husband and I took the cooking with wine class here and had a fun experience. I wasn't thrilled about cooking in groups but luckily our cooking partners were fun and not a buzz kill. You can bring wine or beer but one of the cooking assistants has to open it for you (Total Wine is next door if you need to pick something up). The food that we cooked was really good. We had a break during class to walk around the store, you get 10% off any purchase. If you sign up for another class before you leave, you get a discount on this too. A cooking class at Sur La Table is perfect for a girls night out, date night or gift idea.

Yelp
Love this shop. Always my go to every time I go to North Hills. Today I was helped by a very awesome employee named Jeffrey. He's super knowledgeable and very helpful. Employees like that make a business. If you find yourself in need for the best, perfect gift or needing a kitchen gadget, this place has it all. And if you're lucky, you might get a free espresso out of the deal :-)

Yelp
The clearance section at Sur La Table is definitely worth dropping by. I got this BEAUTIFUL juicer that was like originally 100 bucks for 60 bucks. And I also got something else that I can't currently reveal in a review cause it's a gift for like a significant discount. Employees were very friendly and attentive and asked if I needed help. I engaged the cashier in a friendly conversation about the silicone sponges at the front counter, and she was very knowledgeable about them. If Sur La Table's prices on everything else were a bit more reasonably, I'd be set. But if I'm already paying a premium for a name like Le Crueset, I can't handle Sur La Table's like 40 percent mark up on that one pan. I know Le Crueset is expensive, but my LORD. Anyways, love the cleanliness and organization of the store. Love that they have cooking classes. Customer service is clutch. Can't complain too much!

Yelp
I absolutely love cooking stores. I could spend hours looking at all the gadgets. So I was pretty pumped when I had an excuse to go -- I "needed" a frosting piping set. So, off to Sur La Table! This store isn't in the main shopping section of North Hills but right across the street, making it easier to get to. Parking is plentiful. I came in and, per usual, saw all the many things I wanted to buy but shouldn't. They have any kind of tool, gadget, pan, or utensil you could want. Plus other things like kitchen towels and aprons. If you want serious Creuset envy, come here and marvel at the rainbow of pots they have. Price-wise, it's a little higher on items you can find elsewhere, but it's a nice environment and they have samples usually. You can also take cooking classes here. The reason for my 3 star review is a weird interaction with the customer service rep. After I purchased my piping set, I turned around and noticed the coffee maker section, which included a coffee maker for sampling. It was one of those basic "push a button, get a coffee" type of things, so I happily put a sample cup under the spout and clicked the button. Suddenly the customer service rep raced over and angrily scolded me, saying that I shouldn't use this without asking for help from one of them. Nowhere was there a sign that said "Ask for assistance before using," not that it's a complex piece of machinery anyway. And it's not like I'd wandered in for free samples and wasn't going to buy anything -- I had just bought my piping set, which I was holding with the receipt clearly on top. Regardless, I was surprised by the lady's angry tone. Even if she needed to correct me on that, she didn't need to be so rude about it. I might come here again if I needed a speciality item, but after this experience I probably will avoid the coffee maker area.

Yelp
Great cooking vessels, specialty cooking ingredients. . My favorite thing is their cooking classes.

Yelp
Love this place and the chefs! My friends and I have taken all sorts of classes here, and I always pick up some great cooking tips. You can tell the chefs really care about their work and the art of cooking. Highly recommend the Thai classes, homemade pasta, anything with steak and anything with the creme brûlée!
google avatar

Yelp
I took a pasta trip around the world last night! Chef Doug taught us how to make Peruvian Pesto, roasted tomato pesto, fresh pasta, and a great side salad. He talked about knife skills and answered every question. We ate everything we made, and it was all delicious. At Sur la Table, the cooking classes are always hands-on, and this was one of the best I've taken. The night of the class, you get 10% off everything in the store. You also get $20 off another class, but you have to register that evening.

A A.

Yelp
Don't do a cooking class here. They have these so they can give you the break during class to shop in their overly priced empty store with 10 associates asking every 2 seconds if they can help you.
google avatar

Dina E.

Yelp
I have take 2 cooking classes with Chef Meredith and she is awesome. She makes class interesting and fun and she makes sure everyone learns the techniques. I will definitely be returning.

Yelp
I have taken several cooking classes here and all have been great, but my favorite/most helpful was the Fall Macaron class I attended today. Baking my own macarons has been on my bucket list, but I was a bit daunted by all the ways they can fail. Enter Sur La Table's class and tadaaaa!! I think I can now replicate. Chef Meribeth was super helpful and gave excellent tips for success at various stages of the process. We made cinnamon macarons with pecan pie, apple buttercream and pumpkin buttercream fillings. So good!
google avatar

Sheila Y.

Yelp
Did not Like the class at all. Everything was already pre-measured sautéed and they did most of the cooking for you. Four people to one cooking station left very little for anyone to do. In my opinion there wasn't much for us to participate in and the amount of food they gave you for the money you spent was totally not worth it. I would rather find someplace else where you do everything, it's a lot more fun that way.

Kelly C.

Yelp
I love this store and all it's overpriced kitchen goods!! I hadn't been in one in almost 20 years, so I was really excited to find this location. My only complaint is that I was asked no less than 8 times--no joke--if I needed help finding something. I'm not sure if it was because they thought I was trying to shoplift (I made the mistake of wearing a hoodie and jeans, and this is North Hills, where everyone dresses like they just walked out of a Lands End magazine--super gross!), or if they're just trained to be neurotically helpful. But, good lord, no means no!!! I shouldn't have to tell you I'm just browsing 50 thousand times and STILL have you hover.

Yelp
Great experience at Sur La Table. I went in knowing exactly what I needed, but felt like I could find it on my own. "Taking a right" as soon as I entered, I wondered down the aisle. I guess I looked like I was looking for something, as one of the associates asked could they help me. I told her I was looking for the Leuke popcorn maker & she took me right to the rack. (Side note, naturally, it was on the other side of the store - my luck!) Beautiful store, neat & organized, fairly reasonable prices. Lots of employees there to help & check out your purchase. Love the in-store cooking classes, I'd really like to try those out one day. Parking is NOT good, as you're in a busy North Hills shopping area.

Yelp
I recently took a Baking class at Sur La Table at the Raleigh location, and I can not rave enough at what an awesome and fun experience it was. The class was Mastering Macarons, and from start to finish it was fabulous! Maribeth D. was our chef instructor, and she thoroughly and thoughtfully guided us through the steps to making a perfect macaron! This was the first class I have ever taken at Sur La Table, and actually the first baking class I have ever taken. This one did not disappoint, and I am ready to tackle my own macaronis! I definitely recommend taking a class at Sur La Table, and plan on returning!

Yelp
Kevin....remember that name. A desire to make liege waffles is what took me for my first visit to sur la table. It requires Belgian pearl sugar and it was the only place in Raleigh I had been able to locate it. They had it for about $6 a box and I was able to make my waffles! Yea! ( for the record, I highly recommend the waffles. They are very rich but totally amazing.) Sur La Table is very similar to most other high-end Fru Fru cooking stores you will find. Anything you need they have it all be it a little pricey. I love to cook and found this place to be way fun to dilly dally in but I have to tell you it is Kevin that will keep me coming back! Anyone who cooks knows one of the main things a successful cook needs is a good, sharp knife. The knife selection here is extremely impressive, but i already have a good collection of knives, they just needed a good sharpening. We met Kevin (at the waffle visit). He told us that they sharpen knives. We brought back our Global knife and had them sharpen it. Kevin was not there that day, so somebody else did it a they did a good job and it only cost $5!! So i went to a friend's house and snuck out a few of her knives to get sharpened. I have attempted several times to cut with her knives, and just have to tell you it was like cutting stuff with a butter knife and it sucked! I think I almost died a couple times trying to use them ha! So after procuring the knives I quickly took them back to Sur La Table. This particular day Kevin was working. He was the one that originally told us they sharpen knives. I'm not trying to say no one is as good as him, but if you're going to take your knives up there, you should totally call ahead and see if he is working! Kevin is super passionate about knives, and it shows in his work! The knives I brought in are not top quality but he took time to sharpen them and get the burrs off them and make sure it was right as if they were the most expensive knife in the world. He did a fantastic job! So like I said earlier, remember the name Kevin! He is your knife sharpening Guru! Go to him! Sharpen your knives! Cut happy! Also check out the rest of the store while you're in there! I was able to find a flavoring that I've only been able to locate online. It was about $5 more expensive than what was online however after paying the shipping it came out about the same, without the wait! O and remember Kevin-knives, Kevin-knives, Kevin-knives, KEVIN-KNIVES! !!!!! that is all.

Yelp
We recently learned how to cook Thai here. We really enjoyed the interaction with the chef and the opportunity to ask other off-topic cuisine questions. Good to know ahead of time-they pair you up in teams of four. You may have to cook with another couple who may or may not both be enthusiastic about their presence. You should also know that you are able to bring your own wine or alcoholic drinks however a staff member will need to pour for it for you. If you for any reason forget there is a total wine next door for purchasing spirits. And cooking with spirits is sure to raise yours. ;). It was also neat to find out where the best places in the triangle are to get different ingredients direct from a chef.

Yelp
I did the Mastering Macaron class today with Meribeth. Well worth the experience. The cost of the class compared to the level of instrustion definitely a great value. I will be taking other classes through Sur la Table North Hills.
google avatar

Yelp
We did the Tuscan cooking class today with Darryl and he was amazing! Super chill and made the 2 1/2 hour class fly by. Didn't have a dull moment and he interacted with everyone and made it super fun. 13/10 would recommend!

Yelp
I had a cooking class with a chef named Marybeth and she was fantastic! I was a little worried about the techniques we would be using because I'm not the best in the kitchen but my husband and I definitely felt much better with Marybeth helping us. Having a chef that was good at explaining how to do everything and why made all the difference! In the end, my husband was even able to replace the coffee flavor (not his favorite) with chocolate. The whole class was so much fun and you learn so much. I will definitely be returning!

Yelp
I stopped into Sur La Table shortly after they opened while shopping at North Hills. They are in a great location and right next to Lululemon and near Starbucks. The store offers all kinds of cooking gadgets, cutlery, glassware, coffee machines, and everything for the cook in your life. There is one in Southpoint in Durham and it is nice to have one in North Raleigh now as well. They offer cooking classes in the back and there is a beautiful white kitchen in where all of their classes take place. I stopped in and was just browsing and asked the helpful attendant about the cutting knives. She gave me a short tutorial and let me hold a knife to see if I was interested in the feel of it. She explained that you can also try out the knives in a class if you really want to cut and chop and take it for a spin before you buy a knife. I can see the classes being a great idea for corporate teambuilding or gift ideas.

Yelp
Love this store, high quality products, comparable prices, outstanding classes and a wonderful staff, especially (An)Drew. He was beyond helpful and amazingly knowledgeable. This is the only place in midtown to shop for kitchenware!!!!!

J B.

Yelp
A horrible experience. Don't waste your money! The instructor was very rude, talked back to people, and was not a good chef. The food was not good, the pasta was not cooked correctly even though the instructor cooked the pasta. The instructor was Maribeth (sp?) who has no business being in this line of work. I will never come back to this store because of this experience.

Yelp
Really disappointed in the lack of customer service. I went into this location for a very specific request that I needed assistance on. When I walked in there was not anyone available. I was not upset at this point, I chose to look around the store. I made a full lap around the store and stood by the counter for 10 minutes. Not a single person working acknowledged me or asked if I needed help. It was after watching me put my items back and walk towards the exit that someone actually asked if I needed anything. I'm sorry, I'd rather leave and take my money somewhere it will be appreciated.

Kelly S.

Yelp
Based on who is working you either will or will not have a pleasant experience. I was in there earlier this week and had the most delightful sales woman. But usually the staff are harried, and barely speak. On the phone, they are even worse - I just spoke with a woman to see if a class was full and she huffed and puffed and told me she didn't have time to check and to go online to check. The manager of this store needs to work customer service. I'll go elsewhere next time.

T W.

Yelp
Love Sur La Table and everything we've purchased there! The sales folks are always so helpful and friendly too. It is the greatest store with everything you'll ever need for the kitchen.

Ellen C.

Yelp
I am addicted to Sur La Table in North Hills. I have gained so much confidence in the kitchen at home from taking cooking classes and slowly adding some useful gadgets and tools. Both the retail staff and chefs are incredibly helpful and informative. In the cooking classes, I have learned knife skills and exposure to different recipes I would have never tried on my own. The retail area is awesome. Highly recommend
