California Best New Restaurant Zef BBQ Smokes Meat Simi Valley Garage | Eater LA

"Inside a stucco garage on a Simi Valley cul-de-sac I found a small brigade of cooks and runners turning out what feels like some of the best, most interesting food in Southern California right now. Tables lifted by paint cans double as prep, packing lines, and an expo station while a singular voice—Anna Lindsey—calls each dish and the crew replies “heard,” checking off a list taped to the fridge. Her husband and chef partner, Logan Sandoval, a tattooed former mixed-martial-arts fighter and longtime corporate cook for the Hyatt, smokes much of the food on a black offset Texas-style smoker in the driveway and executes wildly varied weekly menus: smoked meats remain the centerpiece with brisket and pit-smoked char siu ribs, alongside things like Portuguese sweet breads, homemade kimchi, homemade Spam musubi, Peking duck, smoked wings, chicken mole, galbi, rice bowls with sliced beef ribs, and ramen with glazed pork belly char siu (even a roasted-tomato ramen with local eggs). They operate as an underground weekly pop-up—new menus drop Wednesdays on Instagram, followed by preorders and weekend pick-ups—and the tight-knit Simi Valley community has shown up for them, lining the street for pickup (masks required); running Zef BBQ out of the garage is their only source of income and they’re already talking about brewery pop-ups or fine-dining nights under the stars." - Farley Elliott

Be AWARE ! Pricey, kids' Price is not about children ages It's all about Looks and Weight! That's what the lady told me on the PHONE. My daughter is 9yo but she was charged as ADULT $39 💰💰💰PER PERSON. She ate 4 dumplings, a glass of water, and a few slices of meat. $39 Wow! Great foods and good service. I just saw my charges days ago. I do not want to make a longer statement over the phone. But, just be aware that my Local Food Lover👍 Over 2 million views on GOOGLE ORGANIC REVIEWS 🔎🔎💻🌐

I came here last night with my family and the service was disappointing. The restaurant was 25% full, yet the staff kept forgetting to bring our plates and meats. Toward the middle of our meal, they stopped checking on us turned our grill off because they saw it was burning then brought us the check. We told them we were still waiting on our last order of meats. When it was time to pay the bill, they charged me $13 over what the initial check said. The voided the initial charge and made it right. Mind you, the service charge was already included for my group of 6. I walked over to them to fix it, and they apologized saying they got my bill mixed up with another table, though nobody else had a party of 6. Support small businesses, just don't get taken advantage of in the process.

This is the best Korean barbecue restaurant in Simi Valley.$33 for basic all you can eat and $45 for premium choice. Among the many meats, beef brisket and short rib was the best. Spicy chicken was so juicy and tender. The best part was that I could taste a lot of meats. And everything was delicious. If you want to taste a lot of meats, you can order a half order. If you haven't visited yet, I highly recommend you to visit.

Food was good, the service was bad 👎 they charged my husband and I 18% gratuity even though it clearly says on their menu 18% gratuity applied for parties of 6 or more. We spent over $100, and we usually tip, but it's hard to when you have dishonest people.

Visited Surajang for the first time and thoroughly enjoyed the experience. We ordered bulgogi, beef brisket and beef short rib. All the meets were delicious and perfectly seasoned. The sides and apps were all fantastic especially the Korean pancakes. Service was pretty great. Well attended to and the grill was changed between orders. Everything was very clean. Would definitely recommend and go back again. A surprisingly delightful restaurant in the corner.

I had a great experience here…first time. I had the AYCE A ($29.95). So many choices of beef and pork and 4 choices of chicken. Also included are appetizers (anything marked with A), rice, banchan, and salad. I also ordered sesame oil with salt & pepper for seasoning cooked items. Our table ordered: Beef: bulgogi, brisket, belly, jumulreok, top blade Pork: belly Full orders of bulgogi and brisket were massive! After that we ordered 1/2 orders so we could try more. We also had Japchae (clear noodles), radish wraps and Korean pancakes, which all were tasty. Heated up the pancakes because they come cold and cut in pieces. Service was very friendly and not too difficult to get their attention. I like the atmosphere and the place was nice for a rainy day. I would come back.

The atmosphere is spacious and clean. The service was really quick and they were flexible with our party of 11. Half of us had AYCE and the other half had a la carte dishes, and they were really accommodating. We had the general AYCE, all the meats and banchan (sides) were fresh & delicious. They did not skimp/cheap out on the meat and gave us huge platters. The beef short rib is thick and delicious. They were helpful when we were ordering as well. The soondobu and udon were good, so they are very well rounded for whatever you order. Definitely recommend!

A buddy of mine and I decided to check this spot out because we were craving Korean barbeque and it was right down the street from us. What a hidden gem! We did the all you can eat lunch special and the food was delicious with large portions. The decor is really nice and you don't feel greasy like most places (must have good ventilation). The ladies who took our order we're super sweet, sometimes going out of their way to assist with the cooking when we were not paying attention to the grill. We will definitely have to come back!
