We planned to be in NOLA for the 6th year in a row, but COVID19 cancelled our plans.
Needless to say we've been eating as much southern food as possible, since we can't get our fix down south this year.
We found Surf 2 Soul after a wedding in Arch Cape, and an early Air BnB check out. A MUCH needed breakfast awaited us, perfect for soaking up the rest of last nights beer and tequila, and punching the exhaustion of an almost all-nighter right in the face! A quick yelp search of "food" in Astoria led us here, and OH BOY were we glad it did.
We had:
2 orders of shrimp and grits
Hush puppies
And we should have ordered everything else.
I ate my grits as we rolled up 101 back towards Seattle, and the first thing that hit me was the sheer volume of the order. A HUGE pile of cheesy grits, and 8 beautiful, cornmeal crusted shrimp.
Idk how much cheese they add to the grits but it's the right amount they were tender and creamy and the shrimp were crunchy and flavorful.
The hush puppies were huge, and just the right amount of sweet. Whatever witchcraft made the cinnamon/butter is spectacular also. Not too greasy, super crisp, and real chunks of apple inside!
A job well done, and comparable to any shrimp and grits plate I ever ate in NOLA.
Definitely coming back here the next trip down 101
