"Soul food is hard to come by in Astoria, but luckily, Surf 2 Soul delivers. The award-winning food cart, which took home best food cart in the People’s Choice Awards for Coast Weekend in 2022 and 2023, has a limited menu that regularly changes up and adds daily specials. Look for its most popular dish, Chicken ‘n the Biscuit — a soft and crispy Tillamook cheddar biscuit with fried chicken and gravy, all made in-house. Chicken wings, shrimp and grits, and po’ boys often grace the menu, as well." - Jennifer Burns Bright, Alex Frane

Google
A kind soul serving up delightfully filling meals at this easy to access food truck. You’ll leave with a smile and a full belly (at least if you try what I did, which was the red bean & rice burger)! Nice outdoor picnic tables for seating too.

We are here last week after walking past and just being lucky enough that we stopped. I am not surprised one bit that with almost 400 reviews, it’s 5 stars. We had the apple hush puppies (best we have ever had), the shrimp and grits (also the best we’ve ever had) and the chicken and waffles (husband says it’s the first time he has ever understood what all the hype is for chicken and waffles). Wish we lived nearby to go back regularly. The owner is warm, humble and kind. Wish there was a higher rating to give him.

Google
Ordered a rice and red bean burger, fries, hush puppies and my girlfriend ordered chicken and waffles. The challenge with red beans and rice as a burger, is you gotta come up with the flavor. And oh my goodness, the flavor is amazing! Salt, sweet, crunch, avocado, hot bread, stretchy cheese, with a wild pickle punch in hidden bites! The fries are natural cut, seasoned, and not. I repeat, not soggy! They were firm, had a good crunch, I didn’t even need the ketchup that came with it. I wasn’t able to eat the whole thing, and it made for a great dinner as well. (It reheats well) The hush puppies with the honey butter… it was like eating an apple fritter inside a hush puppy. Truly a great twist on a southern classic Please give this place a try, anything and everything on the menu I’m sure is amazing. I mean, if you can make a red beans and rice burger taste that amazing. You can’t go wrong with anything at this place.

Google
This was outright the greatest soul food I've ever had. Beat out Austin, TX and Georgia. The batter is crispy but not greasy, the ingredients were fresh as hell, and the portions are out of control. This is one of the rare places to drive 3 hours to eat. I'm still in awe at how juicy the chicken was. Giant pieces perfectly battered. Those cheesy grits... dayum. Gotta shout out the fries. Perfect. Crunchy and soft with that ultra fresh potato flavor. Genius.

Google
The food here is to die for. Even days later I can't stop thinking about the Po'Boy and the stacked Mac? Chefs kiss. Best food I've had on the coast! Edited to add that we went back a second time and got the hush puppies. Food shouldn't be allowed to be THIS good.

Google
I live and work in the neighborhood and eat here often enough—THIS FOOD IS AMAZING! Years from now, scholars will have written volumes of poetry about the Stacked Mac N Cheese. It’s really THAT good.

Google
Fantastic food truck with a very nice owner. We shared a shrimp poboy and thoroughly enjoyed it. The sandwich pretty much fell apart but I'm not surprised with how much was on the sandwich itself. The shrimp was perfectly breaded and the aoli on the sandwich was delicious. The fries are thicker and absolutely fantastic. I loved the entire experience and will definitely be back.

Google
Oh man, this was an absolutely delicious food cart. I stopped into Astoria and needed a quick bite before I departed after a drone shoot. I saw the 'Stacked Mac & Cheese" reviews on Google and had to give it a try, as i've been known to be a Mac & Cheese snob. I usually don't hit up food carts, but I had the faith in the reviews, and had to pursue what my stomach was calling me to... Insanely good. The Mac & Cheese was extremely creamy, the chicken had a perfectly crunchy texture, and it was cut into reasonable sized strips that weren't too big nor too small. But the best part, was the portion size. After eating what felt like a mountain of food, I barely chipped away at it and had some for later after the drive back to Portland! On the drive home I actually pulled over multiple times to take some bites because I was already hooked. Jordan is talented at what he does. Thank you. I'll be back!

Yelp
AB FAB!! Not only fresh ingredients, not only delightful combinations, not only a VERY personable owner/chef, but huge portions! I don't want to cost him business, but I can make 3 meals out of what he serves!! Talk about getting more than expected for your money! Oh my. Only wish I lived closer... (Worth going and eating in the car when it's too hot out for me at the benches.)

Alison S.

Yelp
Lives up to the hype! #HighlyRecommended #MustTry #AmazingExperience Bring a friend or make a new friend and invite a stranger to eat wtih you! Sit outside and enjoy the wonderful service, ambiance, and food!

Kim R.

Yelp
Holy macaroni.... I saw the pics, not even a huge Mac & cheese gal, but had to see if the reviews were true for myself. Yuuuuupp. The chicken Mac & cheese is divine. I've not a clue why it's so good, but it really doesn't matter does it. Serious flavor in both the chicken and the cheese. I'll be hard-pressed not to stop for some every time I'm in Astoria.

Yelp
Food made with love and passion. Food recap: Which came first - savory waffle - chive and bacon. Crispy seasoned fried chicken. Pimento cheese - warm ooey gooey. Dip it in syrup - put a lil hot sauce on it. Fries were EXCELLENT. Fried pickles - savory with a hint of sweet. Paired great with the aioli. Super thin. Crispy. Stacked Mac - perfectly fried chicken, well seasoned, crispy! Mac and cheese - Creamy, smooth, great consistency, perfectly seasoned. Peach cobbler - Perfectly sweet, peaches weren't over cooked, the crumb was delicious and complimented the sauce very well. If I wasn't so full I would have gotten everything on the menu. Will return without a doubt. Chef gave off old soul vibes and truly has something special going on here! This spot is a must.

Yelp
I am so happy I finally tried this place! I've been craving macaroni and cheese idont know why I never ate it growing up but I was on the hunt to find some. I ordered through Surpalicious (great service by the way) and my food came hot and fresh. Macaroni is bomb! Enough to feed 2 or 3 people for sure. The chicken is so juicy its just perfect! Now for someone who doesn't eat pickle I'm surprised my anxious self ordered fried pickle. I love shrimp but it was one or the other and I know shrimp is great so I thought I'd try the pickle. It's yummy!! If I had someone here to share with it'll be perfect side to eat with. Cajun is a little spicy for me but the aioli is delicious! Nice kick to compliment the pickles. I will be back and back again! I'm so down to try everything in the menu!

Amy U.

Yelp
To die for chicken and biscuit! Crunchy chicken, cheesy biscuit and savory sausage gravy on top! Super nice guy gave us extra gravy since he was closing up shop for the day! I ordered it for myself but as soon as my husband saw it, he had to have some. We can't wait to go back and try more next time!

Jessica R.

Yelp
YUMM! Food was absolutely delicious! A place so worth checking out. The service was great too. Thank you for a delicious meal :)

Lilly B.

Yelp
Service with a smile, delicious food, what more can you ask for? Got the stacked mac and it's legit. Mac & cheese was soooo creamy with a nice little kick and the chicken was crispy perfection! Oh and it was a huge portion, definitely going to come back and try all the things!

Zack W.

Yelp
Ordered the fried pickle chips and chicken Mac n cheese. Fried pickle chips were a huge portion. Excellent flavor and the dipping sauce was good too. There was a bit of oil underneath and probably could've been drained another 10 seconds longer. They were clearly made to order, very hot and fresh. The chicken Mac n cheese was excellent. Used a few types of cheese, flavored nicely, pasta cooked perfectly. Chicken was hot and crispy. Not greasy at all. Everything was priced fairly and the guy working the trailer was very friendly and you could tell he was passionate about his food. Didn't know it was a trailer until I showed up. It's in a parking lot with other food trailers. This particular one isn't trying too hard unlike some of the other hipster trailers there. So don't let the bare outside look fool you. It's great food.

Yelp
Most importantly, the food is delicious and I can't make it at home. And not just because I don't have a fryer. However, the part that made me extra happy was when I brought leftovers home to my extended family's beach rental, my brother snarfed down the generous serving of leftover cold French fries (despite my my numerous offers to reheat them in the oven) and ditto for my mom with the leftover Mac and cheese which she declared to be up there with the best. Even cold. Food is good. The fella working there was lovely, the servings extremely generous and my 84 year old mom loved my left overs. What more could I ask for?

Nawal r.

Yelp
I tried the shrimp sandwich, very tasty and fast friendly service. I liked that he is very generous with the ingredients

michelle f.

Yelp
The stacked mac n cheese put me in a food coma, and i'm not one bit upset about it. :) it was absolutely delicious, and to top it off the owner was such a sweetheart. I will be coming here at least once a month for the rest of my life lol. very good

Matt B.

Yelp
Mind blowing. That is how good the food is!! Straight up fantastic! The portion size is ridiculous too. Eat here, now!

Jen B.

Yelp
Driving through Astoria on our way from Seattle to the Oregon coast and always trying to find something different and good. I remembered that Astoria had food trucks so we landed on this one. OH MY GOSH! So glad we did! The owner was a super nice guy but let's talk food... AMAZING! Stacked Mac and cheese probably could have been shared between 2 hungry people or 3 hungry-ish people. It was so cheesy and d finitely the most delicious we've ever eaten! We are well on our way to the beach and my husband can't stop thinking about the Mac and cheese. We also had the biscuit, fried chicken and gravy which was equally delicious. Advice: go meet this talented young man and eat the food here!! Generous portions, amazing food.

Shelby M.

Yelp
So good!!!! The biscuits are Pillows of heaven, the chicken delicious with gravy but if that's not your jam have it with Mac and cheese or have a have the po boy and fries or the shrimp snd grits it won't disappoint

Andrew J.

Yelp
The owner's customer service is top tier. Might be the best food truck in Astoria. Try the hush puppies and get it with ice cream. The apple cinnamon hush puppies is a dope twist to an old southern classic.

Jane A.

Yelp
Home made fries Black bean and rice burger with avocado cheese pickle lettuce tomato. What more would someone want. The owner is friendly and help. We will go back again

Damianne B.

Yelp
Ordered the shrimp poboy and was soooo happy. Generously portioned, thoughtful details like thinly sliced tomatoes and fantastic pickles. Wait was maybe 10 or so minutes and breading was perfect. I recommend on a lovely walk through Astoria.

Joseph D.

Yelp
This is a food truck in Astoria. The guy sells out a lot so that should tell you how good it is. Now I'm from the south, so PNW food rarely satisfies those southern taste buds. This guy here is the closest you will get. The stacking Mac is one of my. Favorites it's a Cajun spiced cheesy Mac with a fried chicken breast sliced with green onions! IT SLAPS. I also have had the chicken and biscuits with a side of his pimento cheese. The only thing I want him to possibly do is start making homemade sweet tea. The place is awesome and the guy is always extremely friendly and has awesome customer service.

Iftikhar K.

Yelp
Had great view point of the Astoria Regatta while enjoying lunch. While we wait for soul food at the Surf 2 Soul food truck, where the lovely chef helped us order some great sounding options without pork. We got * Po Boy * Crab cake roll * Stacked Mac * And a side chicken, biscuit and fried pickles Dang that was a lot of good food. The French fries were thick, crispy and delicious. The chicken on Mac was also a favorite. And the po boy and crab rolls were great too. Highly highly recommend. Support great local food!! While we were here we enjoyed the Astoria Regatta parade! Wow they throw out a ton of candy. The girls had a blast!

Grace S.

Yelp
I cannot say enough about Soul 2 Surf!! The owner and chef is so friendly and helpful and the food is amazing. This food truck is located just a couple blocks walk from the wharf/dock area, so it was quick and easy to have a meal with a view! I got the stacked Mac and it was honestly kind of life changing. I will never like normal Mac and cheese the same way. The flavor packed chicken on top, the green onions, and the little bacon pieces mixed throughout - this guy has really perfected his dishes. ***One thing to note is that portions are huge!!! 2 people could easily share one stacked Mac and be fully satisfied

Brian B.

Yelp
Yum! Great street food from this cute food truck. Delicious shrimp po boy with exceptional fries. Lots of food too.

Michael M.

Yelp
I'm normally a heavy eater and even his portions was enough to keep me filled. I got the shrimp and grits. For 11 dollars it's such a deal. Shrimp was good size and very tasty. I would recommend this place 100%

Whitney E.

Yelp
Really good food, and the owner is a super nice guy! If you're looking for some realllly good soul food, check this place out! The shrimp grits are my favorite!

Kristin L.

Yelp
My husband and kids and I stopped here to grab lunch when visiting, after finding this place on YELP. The reviews do not lie. Not only is the owner helpful, he makes some amazing food. The portions are HUGE, and he let's you know that, so unless you have the appetite of a saskwatch, you should be able to share some. The hushpuppies were amazing, the chicken was perfection, fried homemade and fresh, and my husband almost left me for the shrimp Po'boy. Highly recommend you swing by at try this food, your taste buds will thank you.

Mark A.

Yelp
I've been in Oregon the last 2 days and this is the best thing I've ate so far. Bread on point, shrimp on point, fries on point, customer service excellent. Price.....damm for the quality and what you get this is a steal. The bread was nicely toasted. Not hard or cold. Shrimp was clocked perfect. Not rubbery and the reading was good. Fries were cooked perfect nice crisp and and soft and salted well. The only thing disappointing is the fact this place doesnt have more reviews. Oregon you are sleeping on a good spot.

Sowmya P.

Yelp
The food was delicious! We got a po boy with fries and waters. The portions are really generous. It took about 20 minutes from ordering to get it but totally worth the wait for how fresh everything was. Great service too!

Chen-Chen J.

Yelp
This unassuming food truck is AMAZING. Let me repeat: AMAZING. I got the fried chicken and biscuit dish. The portions are huge and despite the friedness, the gravy, and other very rich components, the dish overall did not weigh you down whatsoever. The chicken was perfectly fried--juicy, excellent doneness, which is a real feat given that it was boneless. The biscuit was buttery and the gravy, creamy. If I was gonna be picky, I would say that I wish there was a tad more salt in the whole dish. But I will be dreaming of this fried chicken for awhile! Sorry no picture because I was too eager to eat it and forgot to snap a pic

Duane S.

Yelp
Food was fantastic and the guy was friendly, conversational and helpful. Couldn't have asked for a better meal on our visit to Astoria.

Sarah C.

Yelp
So delicious! The portion sizes were spot on. The chicken biscuit and gravy was so amazing. I decided to dip my seasoned fries in the delicious gravy and it did not disappoint! The po boy was the best I have ever had! If I ever visit Astoria again, I will make a stop here for sure!

Dawn S.

Yelp
First off, let me say that I am not only a foodie but an ex-restaurant owner. That being said, this was by far the best chicken biscuits I've ever had in my life. The best thing is that the sausage gravy was not too salty, which is truly impressive because most are. The chicken was tender and flavorful, and the biscuits were the bomb! Great owner of the food cart too. Very personable and definitely knows his food! Don't miss this if you are in the Astoria area

Kristen R.

Yelp
BEST food we ate on our trip to Oregon. Hands down! My husband found this place by doing a little research before our drive up to Astoria that day just last Wednesday. It was truly the best food we had while we were in Oregon. It is a tiny little food cart sandwiched in between a few others that all looked delicious as well. The owner/cook seemed like a really genuine guy and you could tell he enjoyed what he does. I got the Stacked Mac and oh... my... gosh. Get it. Get it twice. My husband got the Shrimp Po'Boy and it was just as amazing! We shared the fried pickles and those were incredible. We just can't say enough positive things about this place. We stopped by again after we finished eating just to tell him how much we enjoyed it. Do yourself a favor and stop here if you're in the area!

Mary G.

Yelp
Great little food truck! The owner/chef was entertaining and friendly. The four of us had shrimp and grits, chicken and waffles, chicken biscuit (or 'pillows from heaven' according to the chef), crab cake roll and fried pickles. The servings were very generous and it was all delicious. According to the group, the shrimp was the freshest they've ever had. The fried chicken was moist and tasty. Pickles were homemade and fried to a perfect crisp. (We even at them cold the next day.). We parked on the street and walked over to the little park across the street while the food was being prepared. It was a great stop on our drive up the Oregon coast and we highly recommend it!

Mart R.

Yelp
Still the best out here. Great food and service. Everything is good. Fried pickles are the best. Excellent starter. Then what came first if you can. There's lots of choices out here but make this a stop when in town. You will love it. I tried. Something different. Each time.

Hamil B.

Yelp
Had the "stacked mac" was down right delicious. I'm looking forward to trying the shrimp and grits. The gentleman that owns the joint is super friendly and gives out a lot of complimentary smiles. Which unfortunetly in the resturaunt industry, seem to get more and more rare.

Mike T.

Yelp
We stopped by the cart for an early lunch. II got the chicken and biscuits, fried pickle and my wife got the mac and cheese. I picked up the food and knew I was in trouble when the 3 boxes weighed about 12 pounds. The chicken with the biscuits was super moist and cooked to perfection. The gravy was rich. My wife's mac and cheese was excellent, however we could only finish half the order. The other half will be breakfast. The deep fried pickles were good but my eyes were much bigger than my stomach and I barely could put a dent in that dish. It's now close to 7pm and we're still full after eating lunch about 7 hours ago. A great stop and a must eat if you like soul food and want to eat enough for lunch and dinner.

Linda M.

Yelp
We visit Jordan's food truck, whenever we are in town. Excellent , delicious , high quality soul food. And friendly service every time

John N.

Yelp
Went here the other day while visiting Astoria and it was delicious! I got the Red Bean & Rice burger and my friend the Shrimp and Grits. Both exceeded me and my friend's expectations and such large portions as well! Extremely good value as well!

Marie B.

Yelp
Deeeeliicious!!!! Yummy food, incredibly kind service by the chef/owner who's clearly living his dream! I had the chicken, biscuits & gravy, and my friend had the po' boy. The potions were HUGE and could keep well. We also tried the marionberry cobbler and the hush puppies. All good, though the cobbler was my favorite dessert. Best French fries in the PNW! I could eat them on the regular, except, I sadly, live too far away, in Seattle!

Erin M.

Yelp
We planned to be in NOLA for the 6th year in a row, but COVID19 cancelled our plans. Needless to say we've been eating as much southern food as possible, since we can't get our fix down south this year. We found Surf 2 Soul after a wedding in Arch Cape, and an early Air BnB check out. A MUCH needed breakfast awaited us, perfect for soaking up the rest of last nights beer and tequila, and punching the exhaustion of an almost all-nighter right in the face! A quick yelp search of "food" in Astoria led us here, and OH BOY were we glad it did. We had: 2 orders of shrimp and grits Hush puppies And we should have ordered everything else. I ate my grits as we rolled up 101 back towards Seattle, and the first thing that hit me was the sheer volume of the order. A HUGE pile of cheesy grits, and 8 beautiful, cornmeal crusted shrimp. Idk how much cheese they add to the grits but it's the right amount they were tender and creamy and the shrimp were crunchy and flavorful. The hush puppies were huge, and just the right amount of sweet. Whatever witchcraft made the cinnamon/butter is spectacular also. Not too greasy, super crisp, and real chunks of apple inside! A job well done, and comparable to any shrimp and grits plate I ever ate in NOLA. Definitely coming back here the next trip down 101

Canon K.

Yelp
I just want everyone to know that it's been 6 months since I've been and I still think of the Mac and Cheese every day.

Matthew L.

Yelp
Good god that was the best poboy I've ever had, and I've had tons. I was not expecting that at all. Dude was slammed. I asked him how busy is it normally and he said it's like that there all day every day. I went to get a salad next door because I eat horrible when I'm in my van but they were out. So I checked this spot out, and boy what a move. I'll be back. My suggestion would be to have a drink you make and one lite salad on the menu. Keep up the good work dude! You're gonna do just fine.

Peter S.

Yelp
Ordered the Chicken n biscuits and my fiance ordered the Shrimp Po' Boy, both were absolutely delicious! Everything was cooked perfectly! We came to get our favorite fish and chips place, but they were closed, so this caught our eyes. I'm so glad we gave it a shot! This will be our place to hit up, when we visit Astoria again!

Ireland B.

Yelp
This is one of the best food trucks I've ever been to. I'm from the south and I have to say the shrimp 'n grits are to die for! I will be coming back over and over. If you're in Astoria, you have to eat here!!!

Katie F.

Yelp
Really delicious little food cart. The shrimp and grits were excellent - the fried shrimp was light, crunchy (not soggy) and there were lots of shrimp in the dish. My husband got the mac and cheese with fried chicken and he cannot stop talking about it. Huge portions. This is a place to prioritize visiting in Astoria!

Eric T.

Yelp
Today was a couple of firsts for me! This is my first YELP review ever and it was my first time at Surf 2 Soul as well. Been eying this place at a distance for a bit and finally caught them open and in line with my schedule. Got the the Mac with the fried chicken and was instantly in heaven. The ordeal started initially with exceptional service. The gentleman working there was bright spot on a rainy Astoria day. He told me this dish comes with a warning if you eat it all, it requires a nap! Well my nap and Mac were absolutely amazing. This place is the real deal!!!!

Judith M.

Yelp
I heard great things about Surf 2 Soul, so I though I'd check it out. I ordered the mac and cheese with fried chicken, thinking it would be great, but I was wrong. It. Was. SPECTACULAR. The chicken was so delicious and perfectly seasoned. The mac n cheese had a drool-inducing cheese sauce and plenty of bacon. I seriously cannot get over how in love I am with this dish. I'm thinking of leaving my husband and running off with this dish - we'll see. But seriously, do yourself a favor and check out this food truck - you won't regret it! The owner/chef is such a lovely and talented person.

Peter E.

Yelp
The chicken and biscuits was tasty, and with an order of fries is enough to share. We'll be back!

Dee W.

Yelp
Bless you! I had a disappointing food truck experience and a local recommended Surf 2 Soul. They had me at a cheesy grits n shrimp. I immediately trekked over and to my dismay they were sold out. However...(and this is where it gets good) he saw my forlorn face and asked me if I could I could wait 10 mins and would make me a fresh batch! And sure enough delivered fresh out the truck window was a Togo box AND an extra box for breakfast! Delicious, light, creamy, and oh so cheesy! The shrimp were big and breaded seasoning was great! He said he loves it when he can make his customers happy. I think I said I LOVE to him as well. :)

Hannah P.

Yelp
What a great spot! It was hard to decide what to order as it all sounded delicious. Tried the Stacked Mac and was not disappointed. The mac was flavorful and creamy but not heavy. The chicken was so juicy and the breading light and super crispy. It was presented beautifully in nice togo containers and I'd say a very generous portion, at least two meals! Besides the tasty food, my experience was super pleasant from start to finish. Very friendly guy running the cart! Definitely going back to try the other menu items.
